This code searches the "Time" Column in first ten rows and copies it to another sheet...
If I have encountered with such a column whose title is "Time in seconds" then it will not search this column...What i want is the modification of this code such that it can detect column which contains any part of "Time" word in it ...

Create a search engine in vba for a worksheet, a macro to be assigned to a button. The 'search engine' to that 'Find button' that I have in mind is on these parameters:
- search any result, complete or partial, non-case sensitive;
- the text to search is typed in B2;
- after the text to search is typed, it only works by pressing that 'Find button';
- it only searches column D in the current worksheet;
- tells the total number of matches found in C2;
- when that Find button is clicked, it goes automatically to the first result found and stops;
- if that Find button is clicked again then it goes to the next found match and stops, and so on;
- when it reaches the end of the document, it just restarts to search from the beginning;
- if there are no matches, it just makes a sound and does nothing; and types zero (0) in C2.
How can I reduce the code to perform this task ?

all my questions are in the attachment excel thing, on the main page.
when the information cannot be found, it breaks the code and did not continue the search.

The problem is it searches the whole sheet, what I want it to do is only search one colomn (colomn A). I know its prob an esay thing to change but I can't for the life of me do it!
Code such as the one below carries formulas in columns 3 and 10 down to new rows when inserted. However, I need to allow a user to overwrite the formula in col 3 with any text value. But if the user overwrites the formula on the last row, and then manually enters a new record below, then the code in the last row of col 3 does not get copied down. Is there a way to search upward in columns 3 and 10 until reaching the last cells with formulas, and apply the formulas to the new cells in cols 3 and 10 on the new row? Or, is there a way to store the formulas:
=IF(A21<>"",B21,"") in column 3
=IF(B21<>0,IF(C21<>B21,A21&", "&LEFT(C21,2),A21&", "&LEFT(B21,1)),"") in column 10
Storing these somehow would be good if the user overwrites the formulas in the very top row of data (row 2).

The code below will locate and select cells containing Kenny. What I want to do is create a little search cells(C5) on my spreadsheet and have the code reference whatever is typed into the search cell. I'm sure it's a simple adjustment. I've tried changing the What:="Kenny" to What:="=C5" & What:=C5 all without success.
Sub find()
Cells.find(What:="Kenny", After:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlValues, LookAt _
:=xlWhole, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, MatchCase:= _
True).Activate
End Sub
I have worksheet that contains the wording "Total For Page" in columns A:N. I would like to find that wording delete that row and 3 rows below it. found the code below that works, but I have to continually run it to find the wording and delete the rows. The code doesn't search all and delete in one shot.

What I have is a workbook where I have to filter on a column called "Code" in a worksheet called "Current" and search for varies criteria and then copy these filerted rows and paste into a worksheet called "Past" and then delete the orginal rows form the "Current" tab.
e.g. filter on a column called "Code" and filter on the criteria that match "Monday", "123" and "Customer Accepted" and paste at the bottom of the "Past" tab and then delete from the "Current" tab. A message should then be displayed saying "Data Transferred OK" with the curser then highlighting "A1" on the "Current" tab.
The only cavat is that the code may find none, some or all of the required criteria, however, in the event of finding no matching data then a message should then be displayed saying "No Data Found" with the cursor then highlighting "A1" on the "Current" tab
As I have to repeat this to filter on various columns for various criteria I intend to modify the code accordingly, however, in once instance I will have to filter on a column called "Code" and filter on the criteria 1,2 and 3 etc but then I have to do second filter on column called "Code Extra" and then do a filter on the criteria 4, 5 and 6 so the additional code would also be good.
I need to check a website daily to see if a link has been updated. If it has been updated, the beginning of the link changes to a different date. Example: today link is www.10212009dave.com and tomorrow link may be www.10222009dave.com. Lets say the link is on www.gugg.com. The link does not change everyday, but I think a good way to see if it has been updated is to search through the source code in the html for that link.
Thus I would put www.10212009dave.com into cell A1 and tell excel to search the source code on www.gugg.com, and if the contents of cell A1 is NOT found, I'd display a message box stating the link has been updated.
I am trying to run a routine in VBA that will Search for a Part-No. that normally contains asterisks. It is giving me bad positive Search results due to the coding looking at the (*) asterisk's as a wildcard character.
The following Part-No.'s are located in cells (C11:C16):
9L3Z*17757*BCP
6C3Z*16138*AACP
AE5Z*16138*B
AE5Z*17E811*CF
AE5Z*17E811*F
AE5Z*17E810*F
Part-No. to be Searched for:
AE5Z*17E811*F
When the below code is run, the incorrect Part-No. 'AE5Z*17E811*CF' is found in cell (C14) rather than the correct Part-No. found in Cell (C15).
Code:
'The following 2 lines are defaulted for ease of coding
pNumb = "AE5Z*17E811*F"
Range("C11", "C16").Select

I need a VBA code that will insert a column next to A, search column A for a string of say 50 cities, and then enter the classification of that city into column B. example below.
Before
A B
1 Boston Good
2 Atlanta Good
3 Georgia Bad
4 NewYork Bad
After
A B C
1 Boston MA Good
2 Atlanta GA Good
3 Cleveland OH Bad
4 NewYork NY Bad
I'm not actually using cities and states.
I'd like to create a macro that searches a column within a changing, variable range.
For example, I have a roster with a list of teams. Each team is separated by a blank row. In each team, there are a varying number of team members, and one team leader. Column I has the position code, which designates whether the person is the team leader (SL), or just a team member (RD).
What I'd like to do, is search each team for the team leader, then check another column (Col A) just within that team for another value, and if that value is present return the last name of the team leader as well as the name of the member with the value in Col A.
The problem is, I'm not sure how to search a varying range in Col I. Teams can vary in size from 3-11 members (including leader), and the number of teams varies each day. I don't have the option of changing the format or layout of the roster - it's automatically generated by some other program and given to me in a CSV list.
For example, from this sample data of two teams
Testing Program : DKSFS
Scoring Center : Concord
Rater Schedule Date : 07/29/2013
[Code]....
how to define that range in Col I which changes with each new team. My approach is to find a way to search a range (essentially the values between blank cells ) in Col I for the value "SL", then search that same range in Col A for the value "VM". If there's a value of VM within that range (team), then copy Cols A-E, write them to a list, and insert that person's team leader last name at the right.
how to define a dynamic range in Col I? I already have a working macro written which generates that last time, sans team leader name, just trying to figure out how to search that changing range in Col I for each team to find team leader name.
Note, not all teams will have a member flagged with that VM marker in Col A.
I have data in cells B2:E2 and this can go down 100+ rows.
In column B i have invoice numbers but some cells contain the word "Deposit".
I have sorted this data so that the invoice numbers appear first and then all the Deposits.
I need a code to find the first instance of the word "Deposit" and to insert a row so that all the invoices and Deposits are seperated by a single row.
I have a button set to bring up an inputbox. enter serial number.
What I need to do is enter the serial number and then have the macro look through a
single column of values to match it then go to that row.
This seemed so simple I thought I could get it but alas here I sit...
I have tried to search the forum for a similar code but haven't found one that was close enough to make sense to me. I have ut together alot of individual actions, but how to get the value inputed to "search" the column and once found go to that row.
I also need to make sure it accounts for new rows being added in the future. (no set row range)
The below code works well if it is on the proper sheet, if the active sheet is not active then it errors- Why? I think I have properly qualified the path to the desired sheet I wish to search on.
Error msg: Activate method of Range class failed
And how do I handle this?
Set Ws = Workbooks("ViewRenameDeleteFiles.xls").Sheets("Item Record List")
What = InputBox("Enter the Name You are Searching for its Record#", "Item Name Searching On")
Ws.Cells.Find(What:=What, After:=ActiveCell, LookAt:=xlPart, _
SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext).Activate
With the code below it searches my entire workbook.
What do I need to change so it will ONLY search UnProtected cells in my workbook?
Code: ....
I want to search for a specific text in body of an outlook mail attachment,I am able to search for the string in the body of the mail,I also get mails with mail as an attachment i want to search for the string in the attachment as well.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI created a user form that has two textboxes on it. One is to enter a person's name that gets put into column A, starting at row 4, and the other is to enter a number into column B, starting at row 4.
What I would like to do is for the form to search the names that have been entered in column A for duplicates in the same range. If the name is not there already, then I would like it to operate as normal. If it already exists, then I would like the number in the text box to go into column C in the same row as the name.
Here is the code I have already on the Submit button:
Private Sub SubmitButton_click()
Dim emptyRow As Long
Sheet1.Activate
emptyRow = WorksheetFunction.CountA(Range("A:A")) + 4
Cells(emptyRow, 1).Value = Guestname.Value
Cells(emptyRow, 2).Value = Roomnum.Value
Unload Name_usrfrm
End Sub
Is this possible? I have to make it more complicated, but once I get the basics, I might be able to figure it out myself.
I have a workbook with one sheet (called "Pipeline") and another sheet called "Completed". The Pipeline sheet is used to keep track of all of the tasks that the team are working on, and then when the task is completed, it needs to be moved to the "Completed tab".
I currently have managed to write some code that looks for items marked "completed" in row G of the "Pipeline" sheet, then copies them over to the "Completed" tab, and then deletes the row from the "Pipeline" sheet.
There is one macro to copy the completed cells (called "Transfer"), and then another to delete the cells (called "Delete"). I then just have macro called "Clean" that just calls the transfer macro, and then calls the delete macro.
Often, there are 6 tasks marked complete, and only some of them will be copied over, but all of them will be deleted (a disaster).
Transfer Macro : [Code]....
Delete Macro : [Code]....

I have a problem to write a VBA code for the following task:
My worksheet has a column that has a unique code in column C (Ex: HR1) which is not repeated throughout column C, and I need to insert the amount of money spent on this specific code.
I would run a userform that has two text boxes, one that I shall enter the unique code and the other text box shall be the amount of money spent. I would like to know of a vba code that can search the unique code of the value entered in the first text box of the userform, then to enter the amount of the second text box into column D in relation to the respective row which the unique code is located.
I would like that the amount entered in column D regarding the unique code could be added automatically by entering any new entries in relation to the unique code selected, if this is possible. If not possible, to go inserting any new date into the next column regarding the same row of the unique code.
Ex:
A
B
C
D
[Code].....
I have the following code to search for serial numbers.
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
Dim Message, Title, Default, SearchString
Message = "Enter Serial Number" ' Set prompt.
Title = "Find Serial Number" ' Set title.
Default = "" ' Set default.
' Display message, title, and default value.
SearchString = InputBox(Message, Title, Default)
'SearchString = "Rob"
Set S = Sheets.Application
For Each S In Application.Sheets
With S.Range("A1:IV65536")
Set f = .Find(SearchString, MatchCase:=True, LookAt:=xlWhole, LookIn:=xlValues)
If Not f Is Nothing Then
f.Offset(, 3) = Date
Exit For
End If
End With
Next S
End Sub
I would like to amend this so that (a) if the serial number is not found I get a message box saying "Serial number not found" and (b) if the serial number is found, I would like it to highlight the relevant row (after inserting the date).
I have a macro that I found somewhere on the net to look within a folder and list all the files of a certain file extension.
The macro to do this is in the attached example and is called 'Get_File_Names_Within_Dir_ext'.
I have created a basic userform outline, 'UF1' for the user to define:
Select File Extension
Select Folder to Search
Destination Sheet
I just don't have any idea how to sync the two.
If you type 'exe' into 'TB1_File_Extension' of 'UF1' the macro should search for '*.exe' files within the specified folder.
The search folder 'RefEdit1' box should open a windows explorer box (or some such) so that the user can select the directory in which to search for the previously specified file extension.
'TB2_Destination_Sheet' is a text box for the user to type the sheet within the workbook in which to list the files found within the specified directory.
'CB1_Find_Files' should activate the macro to find any files for the specified criteria.
There is also a Button 'Find File Types' in Sheet1 of the file which should activate the userform 'UF1'.
I have a spread sheet with Column A = Document number, Column B = revision.
I am trying to get a macro that, when run, increases the revision letter in column B. The problem is that we do not use a few of the letters such as I, O, P and Q.
I thought it would be best to have a table of the used revision letters (Say in Z1 to Z40)
Look at the text in column B of the row currently selected and find it in the Z1:Z40 table
Move one cell down the Z1:Z40 table and copy that text back into column B on the row initially selected.
