Combine Multiple Cells To Create Unique Cell Value In A Column
Sep 23, 2012
I would like to know how to combine multiple cell value from each column to create a unique value. for example column A will have values (a,a,b,c,d,e,e,f,i,j) and B will have (1,2,1,1,3,4,5,5,6,7) and C has ( xxx, yyy, zzz, xxx, yyy, zzz, xxx, xxx, yyy, zzz).
i need to create a list of unique possible combination of data into column D.
I have placed below example and how to create a similar code and what functionality does this.
I searched and searched and I can't find an easy way to do this without using Access which I am rubbish at. Is there an easy way to do the following in Excel. I have several thousand records by row each with a unique numerical identifier. The unique identifier is the "Household". Within the household there are sub "Accounts". The sub accounts are truely unique. All the "Accounts" are in the same column.
What I am trying to do is combine the records into one row per "Household" with the accounts listed in successive columns. The maximum number of accounts there may be is 7 but it can be as few as 1. Example:
I am using the code below to combine the rang of cell values into 1 cell. with this code I need to select the range of cells manually and run the code then repeat it on the next row manually.
What I need is automatically find the range from selected cell till last cell in the row and run the cod for this range then do the same on next row until last row of the sheet.
Code: Sub JoinAndMerge() Dim outputText As String[code]....
I would like to know how to combine many cells in a column - sometimes 100's - into one cell separated by a comma without having to type each cell name using.
I have a wookbook with serial numbers in column A and barcodes in column B. There are 51940 rows in total.
Is there a way I can search through column A, and for each unique value found , concatenate all of the barcodes that relate to that serial number in column C?
I need to combine the category sheets back into one main table, knowing that there may well be an increase in the number of categories, as well as the number of rows in each category sheet.
I have attached a sample workbook - if anyone can help me with the code so that when the macro is run, the data in sheets A, B and C are combined into Main Table.
the macro would also then update the Pivot table, that would be the icing on the cake (I have shown the pivot table configuration I need, in this case using only the data from sheet 'C', for reference)
Columns A, B, C and D contan a list of Names, I want to be able to in column E list all the items in A,B,C and D with out duplicates. How would I do this?
I have values in Worksheet 1, spread over A1:D25 and A200: D250.
In worksheet2 I have values again from A1:D25 and A200:D250.
Is is possible to only get the unique values of those 4 ranges with the advanced filter? They all need to be shown in eg worksheet 3 starting in A1, (so kinda merged in a sense)?
Is that a thing more for a UDF, or is there a excel function/option that does exactly that?
I have been looking for ages for that kind of function/option, since I thought it must be possible. But this sure does not look to be a standard functionality, or is it? Is there a (free) add-in that might do this kind of thing?
I found this code on some office help page:
Sub SortAllRangeData() ' Place column header for temporary sort area. Range("IV1").Value = "Numbers"
It kinda does what I needed, but it lists the actual data in the same spot it used to be. I want to be able to list the sorting in a different column on a different sheet and in 1 column only. Is this difficult to modify so it becomes a UDF or is this something totally different?
In D2:D11, I want a non-duplicate list of all the "1" names, i.e., Bob and Josh. In E2:E11, a list of all the "2" names (Sally, Bill & Jacob), and so on. Sorted would be nice, but not necessary. When new names and their numbers are added to A1:B200, they need to automatically show up in D2:G:201 as appropriate. I've looked over VLOOKUP, INDEX, MATCH, etc., but all seem to simply return the first and not every match. Maybe I'm just missing it.
Is this possible without VBA? Not that I have any objection to it, but delving into and learning it is a little outside the available time I have now. If it takes VBA I'll address it when I can free up some time.
I have to copy and paste each group of "Control Accounts" from column A into a separate workbook. I want to create a macro that can open as many new workbooks as there are unique records in column A and copy paste each group of unique records into those different workbooks.
I want to end up with a list of unique items (nothing repeated) from a variable length list starting in cell B5. That unique list is then placed in cell D3.
I am using the code below (found on Ozgrid) which almost works. But it seems to be dependent on what’s in column A (which I wish to ignore) for it to work.
How can I modify the code so that the results are based on column B only?
Dim Rng As Range Dim fRng As Range Dim lRow As Long Dim Dest As Range
lRow = Range("B" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row Set Rng = Range("A5:B" & lRow) Set Dest = [D3]
With Rng . AutoFilter Field:=1, Criteria1:="1*" Set fRng = .Offset(1, 1).Resize(.Rows.Count - 1, 1).SpecialCells(xlCellTypeVisible) With fRng .AdvancedFilter Action:=xlFilterCopy, CopyToRange:=Dest, Unique:=True
this code "Creates a New Workbook" for each item listed in an excel table, then, copy all unique values in their respective Workbook and save it. So, the problem is this. instead of creating a "New Workbook", i want to open a previously created Workbook (template) and do the procedures listed above. Is this posible?
Sub Copy_To_Workbooks() Dim CalcMode As Long Dim ws1 As Worksheet Dim ws2 As Worksheet Dim WSNew As Worksheet Dim rng As Range Dim cell As Range Dim Lrow As Long Dim foldername As String Dim MyPath As String Dim FieldNum As Integer Dim FileExtStr As String Dim FileFormatNum As Long Set ws1 = Sheets("Sheet1") '<<< Change If Val(Application.Version) < 12 Then 'You use Excel 97-2003 FileExtStr = ".xls": FileFormatNum = -4143 Else If ws1.Parent.FileFormat = 56 Then FileExtStr = ".xls": FileFormatNum = 56 Else FileExtStr = ".xlsx": FileFormatNum = 51 End If End If..............
I have a workbook with about 10000 rows of data for about 100 suppliers in Sheet1 and about 15000 rows of same Suppliers payment details in sheet2.
What I am doing now is:-Filter every supplier names in Column A of sheet1, copy all the rows and paste in sheet1 of a new workook & Again copy the Payment details of a same supplier from master file sheet2 and paste the same in sheet2 of this new workbook then save the files with the supplier name as file name in my documents folder code, that filters each suppliers data from sheet1 & 2 and paste in new workbook sheet1 & 2.
I'm trying to combine multiple columns into 1 column in Excel. I've searched a few places but most of them are tailored for a specific sheet and my VBA skills are elementary
My table looks like this (there could be more than 5 columns... it's somewhat dynamic based on the data given). Note that some columns could have no data, and the size may be different, some have 100 rows of data, while others have 5.
Firm A Firm B Firm C Firm D Firm E
[Code]...
I want to combine these columns into
Consolidated
A B B C D E
[Code]...
Is it possible to do this with an Excel formula? If not, a VBA code
Most details are shown in the spreadsheet below. I would like it to be dynamic because the quarterly and annual data dumps I'm working with are are hundreds to thousands of lines.
Have the list be sorted, which is a part of the first attempt, would be nice but is not necessary. At this point, just being able to generate the dynamic list would be fantastic.

I have a data set that I am generating from a SQL database then putting into excel format. In this spreadsheet, I have a one to many ratio. I want to combine all notes associated with the same applicant_id into one cell. I also, only want the first Received Date and first Entry date that comes across. Is this possible to set up a formula/macro to do this manually for me? Each day I generate this data set, the number of entries can vary. I provided a smaller set, but I'm dealing with hundreds of entries.
I have two columns one of which has filenames and the other having values. I need to creating a macro that takes each value from a cell outputs it into a text file and then saves it with the filename of the cell next to the value. I'll need it to go down the columns and create separate text files for each.
Sample file attached. How do I combine the data in columns B-E into column A? Obviously in my sample file you'd use a simple cut/paste but my actual file has hundreds of columns and rows so cut/paste isn't an option. I need to move all the data into column A.
I am trying to combine data from multiple columns into one column. The way my data is set up there shouldn't be any columns that have data in the same row. See below for my example.
Is it possible to combine datas from over 200 cells (all cells are from the same row) in one cell? I have tried CONCATENATE function and e.g. =A1&B2&... but is there shorter formula for this?
I have a list of companies and employees, if a company has more than 1 employee listed, I need to combine all instances of the employees into 1 row per company separated by a comma.
I have 1200 doctor/patient records to input into an excel spreadsheet for import to an online EHR database. I can set up all the normal formulas and formatting but for the life of me not figure out how to create a custom formula to take the first letter of the patient first name and last name and add 6 figures to create a unique patient identifier.
ie. James + Smith+ random 6 figures = JS245318.
In my spreadsheet the first name is under Column 1, Last name Column 3 and the unique number generated in column 4.
I need to combined all non blank cells in a given row into 1 cell. But within each row i have 5 phases that the values fall into, which is denoted by the 1st charter 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. for example, in a given row i have 1-a, 1-c, 2-d, and 1-f and these values occurs in non consecutive columns starting from G to ALR. I need a macro that sorts these values in one of the 5 phases. So in another sheet the macro would combined [1-a 1-c 1-f] in Phase 1 and [2-d] in phase 2. and if there are other phases it would put them in the appropriate cell.
See attached workbook : Work Order Summary Sheet.xlsx‎
However, in addition to what the macro already does, it is possible to add another work sheet in the same work book that outputs the values in separate cells? It also has to output the data in order: for example, in the first work sheet the data is inputted at random and has spaces but the macro will have to remove all the blank cells and output them in order based on the first value in the test string, 1, 2, 3, 4, and then 5;
I have attached a test workbook excel 2010 (ignore ref# errors, I've cut the workbook down for uploading purposes) What I would like to do is have a 'Button' on my 'information Sheet' which when clicked would clear certain cells. I have searched the forum but can't find a solution, everyone seems to want to delete rows or columns but I just want to clear certain cells. The workbook will have 11 sheets each named 'caravan 1' through to 'caravan 11' The uploaded test workbook only only has 3 sheets.
On 'caravan 1' (which is slightly different to the other 10) I want to clear the content of cells
On all other 'Caravan sheets' I want to clear the contents of cells
D4 & D5 E4, E5, E22, E23, E41 & E42
It would be icing on the cake if it could give a warning such as " are you sure you want to clear these cells" but that isn't really necessary. The worksheets will be password protected, but the cells mentioned above will not be. If it proves too difficult to clear all the cells on all the sheets with one click, then perhaps a simpler solution might be to have a button on each sheet instead
Is it possible to combine search results into a single cell?
On my spreadsheet I'd like to select from 4 columns and combine the result into 1 cell. I'd like to search on equipment number in column K that meets a condithion in column H, if this is a match I'd like to show the result date in column P and the duration in column R. Columns P & R shown in 1 cell...
Sort of like this... if "K" = "CV537" and "H" = "0" then show the resulting date from "N" and duration from "R" in one cell somewhere.
I have a column of data that will vary in length and I'm trying to write a macro to combine it all into one cell. Basically I need to do the equivalent of entering "=A1&A2&A3..." for the entire column. I started by creating an array string variable and have the data in grp() but now I'm stuck trying to figure out some sort of loop to keep adding onto the same cell or something
I have a table with 6 columns (A to F) and multiple rows each, with cells containing words. Taking the words in any one cell from each of the columns in order from A to F will form a complete sentence each time. I need a solution to display all unique possible combinations in column G.
The number of rows is different for each column. A successful result in column G has to include cells from all columns (A to F).
I searched this forum and found a few analogous questions/solutions, but nothing close enough for me to apply to my case. I tried using a concatenation formula, but I have to manually edit the formula in each cell to get all unique combinations (and that would mean thousands of times). If I just drag the formula down it will increment all cell rows instead of one cell's row at a time.
Here's an example : all possible unique combinations.jpg
