Create Multiple Text Files From Cells & Save As Name In Adjacent Cell
Jun 26, 2008
I have two columns one of which has filenames and the other having values. I need to creating a macro that takes each value from a cell outputs it into a text file and then saves it with the filename of the cell next to the value. I'll need it to go down the columns and create separate text files for each.
I have a excel file that I enter information into. I have code that saves the files to a certain folder with the name, date, and time stamp for the file name. At the end of the day I might have 3 to 15 excel files I have created that day and I would like to take information from certain cells (examle: L3, B6, B7, B8, G8, and so on) and create a txt file with all of the information in it.
Example: 12/20/2007 Your Name 123 Somewhere St. Here, OH 45111 Home Visit
I m trying to write a macro which could take the text from a single column row T2 to row T313 and write it to a .txt file. Have the .txt file name created by the text in T4 or I could also put the text to name the file in T1 if you think it would be easier.
Then carry on to the next named sheet and produce another .txt file in exactly the same way until all 15 sheets have been completed. It would also be helpful if prior to starting to write each text files, it could test for any text in cell A2 of the sheet. The first empty A2 cell of a sheet would determine the end of the run, if it was prior to sheet 15 being reached.
I will have about 20 excel spreadsheets that will need to be run through some data cleansing and validation than each one exported to a csv file (without the column headings on them), and saved as the same file name as the spreadsheet was. If there are errors in the validation process then the one that fails (row) will be copied to an error log spreadsheet. There will be multiple worksheets in the error log workbook (one for each of the spreadsheets Ė which I hope VBA can create). What I am doing so far is creating a loop that will run on all of the spreadsheets located within a folder.
'Procucedure that will run all validation processes and error checking on extracteds spreadsheets
Sub RunCodeOnAllXLSFiles() Dim i As Integer Dim wbResults As Workbook Dim wbCodeBook As Workbook Application. ScreenUpdating = False Application.DisplayAlerts = False Application.EnableEvents = False On Error Resume Next Set wbCodeBook = ThisWorkbook With Application.FileSearch .NewSearch..............................
I want to get a vba which will convert an excel with different tabs to individual text files. IT MUST BE PIPE DELIMITED.
So if there is an .xls file with 5 different tabs, i should get 5 text files with each text file getting name of the worksheet it was created from.
I have a similar code but somehow it is doing the conversion only for last worksheet, also it is saving the file in the same name as workbook.
Code: Sub save_as_text() Dim i As Long, txt As String, delim As String delim = "|" With ActiveSheet.UsedRange For i = 1 To .Rows.Count txt = txt & vbCrLf & _ Join(Evaluate("transpose(transpose(" & .Rows(i).Address & "))"), delim) Next End With Open Replace(ThisWorkbook.FullName, ".xls", ".txt") For Output As #1 Print #1, Mid$(txt, 2) Close #1 End Sub
I am using the following code to import a number of text documents into the same workbook, on seperate sheets and then to save the workbook as an excel file. the problem is that when the file tries to save (red section) I get a message telling me that Excel can not save the workbook in the requested format, I think because it is still trying to save them as text files rather than as an excel workbook. When I try to save manually, selecting .xls as the format it works fine, but I would really like this to be part of the macro to ensure the WB is saved.
Sub ImportFiles() Dim Sfile As String Dim count As Integer Dim ans As String Dim A As Integer Dim FileSaveName As String count = 0 Application.DisplayAlerts = False Do ' Allow user to select the file to open, text files only Sfile = Application. GetOpenFilename("Text Files(*.txt), *.txt") ' Check that a file has been selected If Sfile <> "False" Then......................
I have one main Excel file with information (in example file - columns A & B). I want to create 4 other Excel files that will draw from the main one (in example file - columns D, F, H, & J). I want the information in Excel file A, B, C, and D to be continuous information that matches the main file. For example, the letter A matches up with numbers 1,3,4,10,11,13,15,17, and 19 in the main file. When I open Excel file A, I want a continuous list of these numbers. And I want this for all 4 Excel files which draw from the main one.
I have several hundred text files which I would like to reformat and save as excel without needing to open each file individually.
I'm entirely new to working with macros, so, I was able to use macro recorder to save the steps to reformat the file, but would like setting up the part of the macro to automatically open and reformat all of the files.
I'm trying to print out multiple excel sheets in which it asks me if I want to save the changes or not every time. I have macro settings set to low so I always accept the macros, if I don't have them set to low I'm always asked the question of whether or not I want to run the macro for over 20+ files. Anyone ever had similar problems when printing multiple files?
I have about 100 Excel files in one folder that need to be saved as text files. They can keep the same name, but simply need to be converted to text files. I'd like to use VBA for this and I can't find examples that do exactly that...or ones that my limited knowledge can handle.
Excel files exist in C:Source and ALL of them should be saved as text files in C:Destination. Maybe there is an easier way, but I thought for sure there was a routine I could use.
When selecting multiple excel files in explorer, you can right click and choose to print the selected documents. All documents gets opened and printed but the files stay open and you have to manually click on YES or NO to save the changes.
Is there a way not to see this window appear. So documents get opened and printed and closes itself without asking anything. Maybe it can be done with an option in the preferences. I'm not sure.
By the way the documents where created with excel vba just in case it's relevant. Also the version of Excel is an older version, I think it was Excel XP or 2002/2003.
I have 40 files in one folder which I named it as "CA" + month's name that I am working on. I need to do analyse these files monthly and save it under new folder. how do I automatically save them in new folder and name them for that particular month. Also, each file has worksheet which has one cell as "Aug-07" and the cell next to it has number of that month that is "08". How do I automatically change this also based on the name of the file, because file name month and month in the cell are the same.
In Cell N1 i have 02/02/09 but i have formatted it to look like Feb Invoices 2009. In the strpath below it saves the file to a folder In desktop/"Cell N1" But it tries to save it as c:Documents and SettingsDaveDesktop229 I would like it to save as c:Documents and SettingsDaveDesktopFeb Invoices 2009. Also if the folder does not exist the macro fails. How can change this macro to
1. Change the folder from 020209 to Feb Invoices 2009 2. If folder does not exist then create it.
I have a column with dates in each cell. I need the user to the able to pick a date from a list in the adjacent cell but it must be a date on the same weekday.eg if cell a1 is 23/10/2013 then cell b1 should display a list of Fridays in the future for the user to select from and then it should put the selected value in the cell (eg 30/10/2013).
Iím trying to make my life a bit easier, by adding a few macros and formulas to the spreadsheet (Everything was done completely manually before I got here!!!). What I would like to do is take two columns, which contain a start and end time for work shifts, and colour them GREEN once I have entered a name in the Worker column (Along side the two with the time), and also to fill a cell with a Yes or a No. Iím aware of auto conditioning, and Iíve tried to have a play to get this to work, but I just canít work it out. I have posted a link to an image which shows what I want. I hope I've explained it well enough!
I have 2 tabs in a 2013 workbook. Inventory Receipts and lookups. One of the Data verification lookups I have is a drop down list in each cell in Column B (eg: Cat, Dog, Mouse) In the lookups tab I have another cell range containing the sounds (eg: Meow, Bark, Squeak).
What I am trying to acheive is, if B2 contains Cat, then return Meow in B3, if B2 contains Dog then return bark in b3 and if B2 contains Mouse return squeak in B3. Ideally I would like the formula to return the text from my lookup sheet (eg: 'Lookups'!C2,'Lookups'!C3,'Lookups'!C4). So depending on which option they choose from my animal drop down list .. the correct noise would automatically fill in.
I have four cells that contain text. All have connected check boxes with TRUE FALSE.
I need to be able to select anyone one of these cells with a check box, and have it's text appear in one separate cell eg: A1.
I have no issue connecting check boxes etc. I have no issue reproducing the text from any of these cells into multiple cells with a check box. But they have to be selectable and reproducing in one cell only (eg"A1").
I would like to know how to combine multiple cell value from each column to create a unique value. for example column A will have values (a,a,b,c,d,e,e,f,i,j) and B will have (1,2,1,1,3,4,5,5,6,7) and C has ( xxx, yyy, zzz, xxx, yyy, zzz, xxx, xxx, yyy, zzz).
i need to create a list of unique possible combination of data into column D.
I have placed below example and how to create a similar code and what functionality does this.
Macro that could look at a row and take the values of two cells, combine them and then create a range name for a third cell in the row.
For example; for row 5420, in column C there is the word Florida, in column D there is the number 6235, and in column F there is a sentence or two. Is there a way to automatically create a named range for the cell of column F that would be named FLORIDA6235? And if so, can the macro do this for every row even if the word and/or the number changes.
I have roughly 28,000 rows and nine columns that I am working with. That's why I was wondering if there was a way to automate this. There are 10 states and I don't know how many different numbers attached to the states, however there are many state and number combinations that repeat, so there would be several rows with Florida in column C, 6235 in column D but a different description in column F.
