Conditional Format Every Odd Row / Excluding Blank Cells
Nov 15, 2012
conditional formatting. I am using the code below to conditional format every Odd row with a background/border.
=MOD(ROW(),2)=1
I would like to know how to modify this, so that it only applies the format if the cell in column A on that specific row contain data and doesn't format blank cells.
I am trying to conditionally format the top middle and bottom thirds of a range of data. Problem is, that the range needs to be flexible as sometimes there may be a maximum of 36 cells with data, but sometimes there may be less (so there are blank cells in the range that need not be counted). The methods I have tried always include the blank cells, and so it is not equally formatting the thirds (as it includes the blanks cells as part of the bottom data)....
Here are the 2 methods Ive tried so far using excel 2003) Top 34%: =IF(INT(COUNT($D$3:$D$38)*34%)>0,LARGE($D$3:$D$38,INT(COUNT($D$3:$D $38)*34%)),MAX( $D$3:$D$38))0,LARGE($D$3:$D$38,INT(COUNT($D$3:$D $38)*67%)),MAX( $D$3:$D$38))0,LARGE($D$3:$D$38,INT(COUNT($D$3:$D $38)*100%)),MAX( $D$3:$D$38))
I am using a conditional formula to compare if a cell in column A is higher than a cell in column B. If a cell is blank the cell is formatting. I am trying to highlight only cells with numbers. Any formula to place in the conditional format formula that will evaluate the cells excluding a blank cell?
ie: grapes and pears should be highlighted because value in column B is less than column A but the conditional format is highlighting apples also where apples should have no highlighting because the value in column B is none or blank.
A B oranges 2.49 3.25 grapes 1.99 1.89 apples 1.00 pears 1.11 1.03
I'd like to give a conditional format to a range of cells so that only one cell in the range has a gray background. The condition must include three criteria: 1) The cell cannot be blank, AND 2) The cell's value must be the minimum in the range, AND 3) The cell's value must not equal any value preceding it in the range.
My own attempt looks like this for cell J8 in the range C8:AF8: =AND(NOT(ISBLANK(J8)),J8=MIN($C8:$AF8),J8$C8:I8)
Problem: This condition works great for all values entered EXCEPT ZERO. When J8 is the first zero in the range, if it is preceded by a blank cell anywhere else in the range, it fails the third criterion (J8$C8:I8) because Excel treats the blank cell as though it's a zero. Result: no gray background.
I would like to highlight (conditional format) the "response required by" (Row A) cells / dates if the "current date" (cell $B$2) is exceeded AND if the "response provided By" (Row B) remains BLANK:
I am currently working on a football spreadsheet ranking players based on their fitness performance scores. For example, there are 14 persons on Offensive Line. I need all their test scores ranked out of 14. However, if there is a blank, I still need the test scores to be ranked out of 14. As of right now, I have cheated, and inputted a random number to bypass the blank:
=IF($G12>10, 0,RANK($G12, $G$12:$G$25,0))
But, this now affects my average of the fitness testing scores for that position. This could be avoided if I could find a way around my first problem.
I need to protect my worksheet and only allow users to edit certain ranges. I am allowing the use of autofilter which I can select when I apply protection. However, I am now aware I cannot sort protected cells..which is essential. I basically need to be able to sort a column titled 'surname'. The worksheet is a record of pupils attainment in my class.
Now, I have a macro which seems to do the job: ....
I have cells B5:AL22 I want to put 1, 0, or leave blank. I need the zero (0) to turn red with white letter, the 1 and blank cells to remain in the present format. I can get the 1 and zero (0), but I don't know how to get the blank cells to stay in regular format.
As a pert of a spreadsheet I have 2 columns (M5:N400) of 400 cells deep. Each cell in these columns contains a formula that counts days, when appropriate. They can end up showing a value of blank, a number between 0 and 5, or any number greater than 5. (But very rarely greater than 30)
If the number is greater than 5 then it means that it has exceeded it's target time and I wish to highlight this with conditional formatting (CF). I have a CF on all cells in both columns that says.
If "The cell value" is "Greater than" "5"... then format the background colour to a pale yellow.
It works, but doesn't work.
If the cell value is 0 to 5 it's unchanged. Good. If the cell value is >5 it changes. Good. BUT, if the cell is blank it also changes. Bad!!!
I assume it is because it is looking at the fact that there is a formula in the cell, even though the displayed value is "". So I tried a second level saying that if the cell is equal to "" then no format, but it still changes.
i have a set of conditional formatting set up for my workbook, the first is simply that if the result is false the cell is blank(white text, white background). the second if positive result, keeps the text black till 1 year has passed. the problem is the third, i.m trying to allow the user to blank out the cell within the year (white text, white background)if certain criteria are met. the idea is that they change the entry in cell D from T to TX or from M to MX and the formula pick this up, but i keep getting a error saying "your formula contains an error", the formula im using is, =if(or($D5="tx","mx")) then i set the format to (white text, white background). its probably really simple but i,ve been trying to solve this now for around 8 hours and i.m stuck
I need to run a loop through a column of values (attachment col B) and when it finds a "J" it will apply conditional formatting to a row of 4 cells directly adjacent. The attachment is a theoretical before & after.
I have a column of numbers and want to make sure everything has been entered correctly from our scanning software. Basically, I want to automatically highlight any cell that has any letter in it (e.g. z12o2 instead of 21202 or R705 instead of 5705), ignoring any cells that contain only numbers. I haven't had any luck using conditions based on formulas like =ISTEXT.
I have attached the sample. I need the cells without the employee or without a boss to highlight a color and i also need the date of certification to highlight if it is more than one year old.
I have a problem where I need to answers from a look up table to return an empty cell if the vlookup table returns a 0 or #N/A. This has to be the case as the answers are used in the creation of a csv file.
It would be easier for me to put in conditional formatting rather rewriting 40+ formulas and copying them down 1000 rows.
Is there a method in vba to format cells to blank?
I have four columns of data, the last column being Date Completed, I'd like to shade the whole row of four cells if the last cell contains a date. I tried to just work on shading if the cell contains anything with conditional formatting using the formula:
=$D$1"" apllied to all my cells and chose green shading and nothing happened.
I have a Sheet 1 which derives some values from Sheet 2.
I want to color cells in Sheet 1 which do not have input from Sheet 2, but the formulas in the Sheet 1 cells are blocking ISBLANK conditional formatting.
I want to print a worksheet where their are blank rows for future use between the main body of the data and the total row. I want to exclude the blank rows.
I have tried to set up a list of cells to highlight in red any numerical values which are greater than 0 using conditional formatting. This works fine, except that all blank cells are also highlighted in red. Formula is currently: cell value is greater than 0. What do I need to do to ignore the empty cells?
Ok so my project is tracking how many days have passed since a collection notice has been sent. Assuming the case isn't closed, a response from the customer hasn't been received, the case has been assigned to an employee, and assuming the notice was actually sent in the first place.
There are instances where the collections case may have been closed without a response date or any other date and we call that "Administratively Closed."
This is my formula: =IF(OR(CaseStatus="Closed",ISBLANK(NoticeSentDate), ResponseDate""),"",TODAY()-NoticeSentDate)
Problem is, now that I'm trying to conditionally format the ones >60 days, and =45 days WITHOUT getting the "blank" cells to change color too.
I got the one for >60 days: =AND(OR(CaseStatus"Closed", CaseStatus"Unassigned"), Comments "Administratively Closed", DaysPassed>60, ResponseDate="", DateEnteredInDatabase"")
I can't get =45 without having a bunch of cells that appear blank change color too.
I want to conditional format cells with an if statement (something to that nature). I attached an excel file to aid in my question. Basically I want it to be color coded to alert users Red if no action is required because info is left out Yellow if info is available so take action Green if all is complete and nothing needs to be done.
If G2 does NOT have data then cell H2 has red fill If G2 does have data then cell H2 has yellow fill And finally if I2 is filled out cells A2:I2 are green filled
I conditionally formated a spreadsheet to delete all repeats. Now I have my rows numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 9 15, 20, 26, 36 (no specific order because the number of repeats were random). I inserted a new column (A) and want a running set of numbers (1,2,3,4) starting at A4. The only problem is that when I put a 1 in the A4 box and try to drag down in the bottom right corner of the cell with CTL+Click, it copies the number 1 all of the way down. What do I do?
I have a large spreadsheet which I require people to regularly complete. Due to the complexity of my business there are 180 columns, each of which has a variety of rules towards its completion.
I have used conditional formatting to check as many of the rules as possible (e.g. if somebody enters that delivery is required then the columns for delivery address cannot be blank).
Each column has the same conditional formatting but can have 1,2 or 3 rules. Min is always 1.
Most columns are fairly unique conditional rules.
There is a variable number of rows each time it is filled out (i.e. people add rows as required) but they copy and paste an existing row so conditional formatting is copied as well.
All conditional formatting rules use the "formula" setting and nearly all use many "AND", "OR" statements to make all the necessary checks.
If a cell is found to have failed the validation checks (e.g. is blank when should have an entry, has an entry when it should be blank) then it highlights the cell in red.
I now want to have a count of the number of "red" cells to show me quickly if it has been completed "correctly" or not.
I have written the vba code to check all the cells but cannot find out how to record if the conditional formatting is being used or not. "colorindex" returns the original colour of the cell not the conditional formatting.
I know that I need to use Conditional Formatting, but I can't get the formula code correct.
This is what I need it to do:
If cell A2 is populated (not blank) AND cell B2 is blank, then cell B2 to be highlighted in bright red fill.
If cell A2 is populated (not blank) and cell B2 is also populated (not blank), then leave formatting as per normal
If cell A2 is blank then leave formatting as per normal
Basically, as soon as someone types anything into cell A2, cell B2 to turn red. Then once they have input something into cell B2, the red highlight can disappear. The inputs will be text, not numbers, so I can't use </>
I have tried varying circumstances of IFs, ANDs, NOTs, ISBLANKs etc and I can't crack
I have a formula in A56 that adds cells A1:A54. I want to use conditional formatting to highlight A56 if any of the cells in A1:A54 are blank. I am unsure how to do this.
I have data in F6:AG6 raw filled with numbers as well as dates, i am looking for formula which can calculate a larger value of number format (excluding date format).
I have a range that contains dates, with some cells within containing text (e.g. "TBC" or "planning will occur wk42"). I have basic rules as below:
- highlight red if older than today - highlight green if today or in the future
The problem I have is that the cells that have text are highlighted green which I don't want. I also don't want to have to go through the range removing conditional formatting from each of those cells each time I copy over new data. Is there a way of telling excel to not use conditional formatting on those cells that contain text so I can manually highlight as I need? Some have text as that is how I receive the data.
