Countif With 2 Columns Of Data And No Duplicates

Dec 26, 2012

I would like to use the sumproduct or countif formula for a set of data. I have looked around the forum and have not found what I need so

Column A______Column B
West___________1
West___________2
West___________1
West___________2
South__________ 1
South__________2
South__________1
South__________2

I want to count column B for all "West" (column A) and I don't want duplicates. So it would count two unique characters for West and two unique characters for South. I want "west" and "south" separated.

Consolidate 4 Columns Of Data Which May Include Duplicates?

Jun 18, 2014

I have four columns of data (in column B) across 4 worksheets within the same workbook. The rows in this columns contain text. In some cases the text in various rows of each columns are identical, and in other cases they are unique. There is a percentage in column C for each text in column B.

What I'm trying to do is as follows:

Create a consolidated list of all four columns into a single column (say column A in a separate sheet). Therefore, each row in this consolidated column will have a unique text based value.

Have the percentage value for each unique text based entry in column B of the separate sheet. if the text based contents in the column A row is one of those that had the same entry in the original four columns, then the average of the percentages will appear in column B.

Using Countif But Not Including Duplicates?

Jun 8, 2013

I have entered the following formula to add up a list of data. =COUNTIF(B7:B100,"*") This doesn't include gaps with blank cells and only gives me the total number of cells that contain text. However, some of the text is duplicated and I only want to count the total number of unique entries in the list.

Output Data From Multiple Columns / Remove Duplicates

Apr 4, 2013

This is a very SMALL sample of the data I need to sort through. We have been using filters but the data is growning and becoming far too time consuming using the filter method.

The output I am looking to achieve is something like this, (any format is fine; whether in rows or columns)

SVR1
1.99.99.254
(2) CAT I (display how many CAT I for SVR1)
CAT I: 2011-B-44
CAT I: ST-5546
(2) CAT II (display how many CAT II for SVR1)
CAT II: 2011-B-52
CAT II: 2011-A-21

SVR2
2.5.2.333
(1) CAT I
CAT I: 2012-E-55
(1) CAT II
CAT II: 2011-A-21

COLUMN A, varies from SVR1-SVR1400 (cointains duplicates)
COLUMN B, IP matches SVR name (contains duplicates)
COLUMN C, will be either CAT I, CAT II, CATIII
COLUMN D, will contain duplicates

I have some history of using formulas and nested formulas but this one is really throwing me for a loop. It feels like Inception to me and I'm not really sure where to start!

A
B
C
D

SVR1
1.99.99.254

Finding Duplicates Using Countif Or Similar

Jan 13, 2014

I have over 400 thousand rows in my data-set and I'm trying to find duplicates using a countif or similar formula. Let's say I have the following:

Blue
Yellow
Green
Blue
Blue
Yellow
Pink

I need the formula to increment the count. So for example, the first time Blue appears, it equals 1, the second it appears, it equals 2, third time is 3 and so on.

And, I need it to actually work with 400 thousand rows. I have tried using the following formulas without success as Excel keeps crashing:

=IF((COUNTIF(T:T,$T2)>1),COUNTIF(T:T,$T2),"")=IF(COUNTIF(T:T,T2)>1,2,1)

That second one equals "2" if there's more than 1, which will work for me as well. Better would be if it increments though.

The purpose of having a count is so that I can pivot the data, then filter out all the "1"s and report on it. Therefore I can't use conditional formatting, or simply using Excels Remove Duplicates feature. I need the same data-set for other pivots and charts.

Countif (check The Data For The Following Conditions, If It Meets The Crirteria Then Place A 1 In Columns)

Aug 22, 2009

the traditional count if statement doesnt return what I need. I have an array of values that need to be checked.

Column: A B C D E
Data: .25 .49 .18 (Criteria 1 Result) (Criteria 2 Result)

What I need to do is check the data for the following conditions and if it meets the crirteria I need excel to place a 1 in column D or E.

Criteria 1
If any of the coulmn data contains a value less than .5 I need a 1 placed in column D

Criteria 2
If any of the column data contains a value greater than .5 but less than 1.0, I need a 1 placed in Column E. I tried using an IF/ Count If statement, but cant seem to get it to return the result I need.

Macro To Compare Columns A & B And Dispaly Any Duplicates In Columns C & D

Feb 21, 2009

what I'm after is a macro to check the contents of Column 'A' against column 'B' and display any duplicates in Columns 'C' & 'D'.

N.B. The headings of Columns C & D are :-

C = Value Found in Column A

D = Value Found in Column B

Any duplicate entries logged in columns C & D should be listed in C2,C3,C4....C20 and D2,D3,D4......D20 etc (in effect creating two new lists)

Countif With Conditions From Two Columns?

Dec 5, 2013

I have coded data for age range in one column and for answering yes or no to a question in a different column. I need a formula that will count the number of yes answers for each coded age range.

a= 14-15 years old, b=16-17, ect.

Column One Column Two
age(coded) Yes or No
a Y
a N
b N
c Y
a Y
b N

I need to be able to count the number of yeses for each coded age. If the formula works it should give me the following output given the sample data above.

14-15 year olds output with the data above would be 2

16-17 year olds output would be 0.

How would I write this formula? I tried countif and sumproduct (though admittedly sumproduct I don't know at all and just tried to find a similar situation and tried it with my spreadsheet).

How To Countif Columns Of Dates

Aug 10, 2009

I have three seperate Formulas on a summary page that will count dates depending on whether they will be approaching in the next month, whether todays date falls within them and if they are expired or are less than todays date.

Basically the form was developed to monitor a maintanence schedule and give a summary to the person in charge of cleaning so they can forecast there work load. I have managed to get the formula working for "whether todays date falls within them" ("# of Computers than can be cleaned today" as it appears on the summary form) but I cannot seem to get the other formulas figured out.. Well at least the formula that checks to see which computers are past due.

As far as the formula that checks to see which computers will need to be cleaned within the next month, I don't know how to make that work at all considering the setup of my Date input page.

Duplicates In Two Columns

Feb 21, 2009

I have a list of numbers in column A of my Worksheet, and a list of names in column B.
There are duplicates in both columns:

A B
234 John Smith
253 Charles White
461 Mary Carlsson
876 Erica Alvin
954 Joe Brown
234 John Smith
461 Mary Carlsson

The duplicates in column A and in column B are correct, because the same names correspond to the same numbers. I would like a formula or VBA macro, if possible, to detect when there is no correspondence, for example, if the last row above were

A B
461 Ben Wayne - where it should be Mary Carlsson.

Is it possible to check all the rows of both columns and identify errors?

Count The Duplicates In At Least 2 Columns

Jan 20, 2010

I have columns from A to AA and need to count the duplicates in at least 2 columns and accordingly need to give them values on the basis of their ratings (A, B, C, D) and type of work (book, article etc) given in yet other columns.

I tried COUNTIF, but that does not work for multiple perimeters
I tried SUMPRODUCT, =SUMPRODUCT(($G$4:$G$3000=$G28)*($AA$4:$AA$3000=AA28)), but that only gives a multiplication of my input without the possibility of giving new values to the output.

I tried AND(IF( but that did not want to work either really...

I think the solution is ifsum, but I do not know how to use it in this scenario...

I know this all sounds a bit blurry, so let me attempt to make it more concrete.

Author Title Year Rating Type Desired outcome
P Marx I 2005 I A I Book I duplicate
A Hegel I 1923 I B I Article I -
B Kant I 1674 I D I Book I -

Precisely, I have three mailing lists (Column A, B, and C) that I would like to sort.

I would like to know what e-mail addresses appear in more than one Column (Mailing List), and I would like to highlight/flag them somehow.

I have attached an example spreadhseet that contains fake e-mail addresses for test purposes. As you can see, some e-mail addresses are duplicated or in triplicate across the 3 Columns. In other cases, an e-mail address may be unique to a specific Column.

In my real spreadsheet, I have approximately 3,500 rows and 3 columns.
