Discrepancy Between Word And Worksheet Syntax?
Oct 15, 2009
I should disclaim that I'm quite novice at that, so my approach to writing macros is to record individual steps to determine the appropriate method, then copy and paste.
In any event, I have a macro that creates a word doc from content in an excel file. I copied over the code for inserting a text field from the Word Macro Recorder:

Add Multiple Buttons That Select Row Of Housing Cell. One of my Macro's places a button on a sheet using Top/Left;
Set sbut = Sheets("Listings").Shapes.AddFormControl(xlButtonControl, _
Range("J" & count).Left, Range("J" & count).Top, 50, 12)
When I try to find the row of the clicked button using the following code;
Range(ActiveSheet.Buttons(Application.Caller).TopLeftCell.Address).Activate
The code behaves differently in Excel 2002 and 2007. In 2002 it returns the row the button sits on, but 2007 returns the cell above the button. This could be because the workbook is an XLS running in Excel 2007 in compatibility mode? Is there a way to "nudge" the button down a little after it has been placed using .top/.left ? Or is the only way around this something like;
Range(ActiveSheet.Buttons(Application.Caller).TopLeftCell.Address).Activate
count = ActiveCell.Row
If Application.Version >= 12 Then
count = count + 1
End If
Is this a bug, or something that I am doing wrong ? The workbook needs to be a .xls to ensure that it works in older versions of Excel.

I´m writting a macro. It works find until a certain point. When I want to change some outputs of the macro without changing the syntax, it display an error mesage while runing the macro. It says Else without If. Which is quite disturbing because the Else was not creating any problem before. Here is my macro before I changed the conditions (this one work nicely)
Sub Copy_Sheet_Beta()
Set wba = ActiveWorkbook
On Error Resume Next
If IsWorkbookOpened("Projekt.xls", "C:Documents and SettingsfrederikSkrivebordRedd Barna") Then
Workbooks("Projekt.xls").Activate 'In case open, just activate "Projekt"
Else
Workbooks.Open Filename:="C:Documents and SettingsfrederikSkrivebordRedd Barnaprojekt.xls"
End If
Set wb = Workbooks("Projekt.xls")
wb.Activate
If Not SheetExists(wba.ActiveSheet. Range("C1").Value) Then
MsgBox "overall doesn't exist!"
Else........................................

I am using Excel 2007 in Windows XP. I am trying to change the worksheet referenced in a formula from the label of the worksheet to the index of the sheet. I want to use this macro in multiple workbooks, and the relevant sheets have different names but are all in the same position.
I used "record macro" to get the structure of my code. It gave me the line:
ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "=SUM('8Nov11'!R[13]C[-4]:R[108]C[-4])"
I want to change that '8Nov11' to the 3rd worksheet from the left, so something like:
ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "=SUM(ThisWorkbook.Sheets(3)!R[13]C[-4]:R[108]C[-4])"
I can't get this to work, and I can't find the syntax for this anywhere. I've tried with and without quotes, exclamation points, changing to A1 notation and using "Range," "Sheets," "Worksheets," "Item(3)", and many other combinations, but haven't gotten it right.
Most of the errors I get are "Runtime Error 1004: Application-defined or object-defined error."

For a set of of paired values A and B, I calculated the Geometric Mean two different ways in Excel (Office 2003). First using the GeoMean function. Second using the equivalent formula,
which is:
(A * B)^.5
(i.e. the square root of A times B).
I was surprised to find that the two methods produced different results 11% of the time.
OK, the discrepancy does not appear until after 10 or 11 decimal places, but I would like to know which method produces the more accurate result. Does anybody know?
calculating the geometric mean using logs (wherein the geometric mean of A and B is equal to the anti-log of the average of their logs) produces discrepancies about 30% of the time, so I assume that is the least accurate method.

I have an excel program that is supposed to count word instances in a word document. I can't seem to find the right declaration for a word document.
For example to declare a workbook in excel its
Dim wb As Work Book
I've tried
Dim doc As Word.Document
'or
Dim doc As Word.Application
as shown in some of the forum posts, but an error user-type not defined keeps displaying.

I'm having an issue with adding data to word from excel through VBA.
I would like to add the Table to the word doc, then copy and paste data below it. The code works fine. However, after the table gets added to the top of the word doc, the rest of the stuff begins pasting from the top of the doc, causing the table to appear at the bottom...

I'm trying to copy parts of a worksheet from excel 2003 to word 2003. I've found code that does this alright but I need to be able to re-size the the pasted data to fit the word document. Is there a way to set the properties of the word document like change it to landscape and move the margins etc? Even a simple "reduce the table size to fit the word document". I've included the code i've got already. This code will open up a word document and copy your cells into it but without any useful options. So its ok for a small group of cells.

I am trying to take multiple tables from a Word document and import them into an Excel worksheet. Currently I have found two versions that when combined, could yield what I am looking for. The first one imports the table's data from Word, but does not maintain formatting of the table (font, colors, rows/columns etc.):
The next code maintains formatting, but only imports/pastes one table:
[Code] .........
For the second one, I do not like the fact that it is calling a specific Workbook to paste into. If I could somehow maintain the ability to import/past multiple tables while keeping formatting that would be perfect. An extra bonus would be to import each table within the Word document into individual Worksheets in Excel. I am also using Office 2010.

I have a macro set up in Excel that formats and deletes rows matching a citeria. Once the macro runs I then manually copy the data across into Word. I would like to automate this.
I would like the macro to copy over any cells containing data iinto a new word document. I also have standard text that I would like to include at the beginning and end of the word document. With the excel data being placed in the centre.
I have searched the web and tried a couple of macros with no luck. All the macros state "' requires a reference to the Word Object library: ' in the VBE select Tools, References and check the Microsoft Word X.X object library"
I am unsure how to reference this - but I have checked and found that the object library ticked is Microsoft Word 11.0 Object Library.

I have two data sets one measured and one modelled and I am testing a conceptual model that proposes that only where the tails of the probability distributions of each data set crosses will you experience an event. I'm enclosing an example file which contains both data sets and some descriptive statistics as well as the associated histograms and a diagram of what I'm ultimately trying to achieve. My question is how I go from the data sets I have with such a large discrepancy between them to plotting their probability distributions?

Is it possible to export Excel cell contents to Word fields in a protected Word document? For example...
What code would be needed to tell Excel to open up, copy and export the contents of A2 in the active sheet of a workbook to "Field 2" in a Word document named "Report 01" and then put the contents of B2 to "Field 2" etc?
Do both applications have to be opened up at the same time or is Excel able to open up Word on its own? Will the macro be able to....
1. Automatically open up the correct Word document?
2. Look ONLY in a certain folder for the "Report 01" Word document?
or
Bring up a "selection" box that allows you to select the document you wish Excel to export it's data to?
3. Close and save the Word Document without any user intervention?

I am trying to automate the below process:
1. I have a excel file with Japanese words in column A and their English equivalents in column B.
2. I am trying to create a Macro and assign it to a button. On pressing the button Macro should be able to:
3. open a form where I can enter location of a word file.
4. Macro should open the word file specified in (3).
5. Macro will pick up first Japanese word from excel file (Sheet 1 - A1)
6. Search for that word in Word file
7. Replace the Japanese words in Word file with their English equivalent from excel (B1)
8. Then it should search for second word (A2) and replace with its equivalent (B2) and so on till it reaches last filled cell in excel file column A.
After a lot of search I could find a code from net (Below), made a few changes, but it is not working.

I tried using =SUMIF(L:L,"*annual*",E:E) but that gives me the sum of annual for the entire column. I need to be able to specify the fund.
word "annual" also appears in "semi annual" so I need to be able to separate the two.

I am in the middle of automating a process here at work, the program takes a word, "pencil" for example, from excel. It will then open up a word document with content already in it (premade template). The program will then find all instances of a string, "placepencilhere" for example, and will replace that instance with the string from excel.
Basically I want to be able to take a variable that has a stored string value from excel and use it to replace another variable in a word document.
I tried recording a replace (ctrl+f, replace tab) macro, copying the code, and inserting it into the excel vba code.. but I get a error message. Here is what I have:

Column B
Dell 24" lcd
vaio sony laptop
8.0 mpxl kodak camera
photoepsonprinter
Basically in Column A I want a formula that'll say.
If the word "dell" is somewhere in cell b1, then put the word "Dell" in cell a1.
If the word "sony" is somewhere in cell b1, then put the word "sony" in cell a1.
And then so on and so forth down through column A. The brand names are potentially endless, so is there a easy way to on like a seperate sheet make a list of brand names and have it pull from there?
Originally I made a if function that said if the brand name was contained in the cell then output the brand name, but that caps at 7 for the amount of brands i can use....
