Drop Down List In Form Shows Numeric Value In Database-want To Show Actual Value
Aug 5, 2009
I have set up a simple form in excel, whereby people use drop down menus to select the appropriate information (as all data inputted needs to be entered in exactly the same way to allow sorting, counting etc) so I thought drop downs were best. The trouble is the data is carried through to my excel database (on another worksheet) were it is shown in numeric values dependant on how far down the drop down list the select item appears (ie "Fareham" is third on the list, so shows in the database as "3").
I'd very much like my database to be easier to read and actually show Fareham etc, rather than be populated with lots of numbers. I initially tried using IF function (ie =IF(C3=3,"Fareham") but unfortunately two of my drop down lists are too long for this (with 25 and 33 entries respectively).
Is is possible to get a dropdown list to show the actual characters as they appear in windings or marlett as shown in the source? When I try I am just getting a load of u's with accents and dots above.
I am trying to track inventory over 160 days in a spreadsheet. Every week I update a table that shows the number of skus and dollar amount that are over 160 days in a table. I have a ton of formulas that will automatically populate once I put in the new weekly data on a different spreadsheet. I want to track the weekly data so what I would really like to be able to do is paste the actual numbers and not the formulas into another excel spreadsheet so I can track the progress over time. Is there a way to just paste the actual numerical number instead of the formula itself?
this is my first attemp at doing a "userform". I am looking for some help in creating a user form that enables users to choose items from drop down boxes, which shows next level drop down list items, then down to final drop down list with information based on first two choices. I've attached the sample file for reference.
I have a Workbook with a dropdownlist on it. The dropdown list has some names on it each name will be a refference to another sheet, ie when name Collins Jim is clicked on the drop down list the Jim Collins sheet will appear. I have attached a sample sheet to show you waht i mean.
I am trying to do, is make a drop down list show the picture above it. I have tried to change everything, and I am sure I am just a hair away from getting it right. I got the spreadsheet to where it will pull up the "Picture #" in the appropriate box, and even had it delete/hide all my pictures (I say delete/hide because I couldn't get them back after I removed the coding I was working on).
Another nice function I would like would be a button, around cell B74, to erase all the picks and reset the sheet for the next season... it would have to have a prompt to verify the user was absolutely sure they wanted to do that though! But I don't know where to begin on that button issue. Can someone point me in the right direction?
The spreadsheet is too big to attch, so it's hosted at the link below. The sheets involved are NFL Survivor & PicTable. On sheet PicTable, the Names & Pic #'s have already been named PicTable for ease of coding.
Im currently creating a spreadsheet for my work, with common problems and solutions to one of our websites.
When the spreadsheet is opened, the user will click a button depending on what sort of problem he/she is having. In the example attached, if the user clicks on "make payments" a form will appear. This will have a list of problems.
if the user choses problem 1 from the drop down list, then I would like the list of solutions to problem 1(from the MPData sheet) to show in the box below. The same goes for problem 2, problem 3 etc.
I have created a drop down list but notice that the button (the arrow in the square) does not show up unless I click on the cell. Is there a way to show the button at all times so the user knows a drop down list is available?
But I get a N/A , my reference A3 matches the dates in the database and C2 matches the repeated occurances of Remnant...
Is this possible since my templates keep repeating down my database?
Basically, each template in the database is related to different stations, and I am trying to sum all the stations details in the database for each month and Header"Remant"
See xls file. I have this chart and the data labels are percentages instead of the actual value. How did these get that way? Under Chart Options there is a autotext box that is there but if I uncheck it, the data labels go back to the actual dollar value and that autotext box goes away.
I am totally baffeled by this despite serach the help, the internet and this forum. I am sure it is something easy I am missing.
Can some one provide some color on this?
I cut this from a larger book with many tabs because I am not able to send out the entire thing (proprietary).
I'm trying to create a drop down list which returns values based on what has been selected in the previous drop down list in the adjacent cell, e.g. if 'Apples' is selected in the previous cell then you should only be able to select from 'Gala, Granny Smith', or if 'Oranges' is selected you should only be able to select 'Seville, Blood Orange'. Is there a formula which would do this, or can I use a pivot table somehow? I'm totally stumped.
I have a userform where I have 2 comboboxes. The first combobox shows the the first column (only 1 of each) and the second comboBox shows me the secondary list that correlates to the valuse in the first from column B. Now I have a text box that I am trying to get the value from column C depending on what I have in the first 2 comboboxes. What is the easiest way to do it? This is all in VB since it is a UserForm, and using Vlookup seems to be too many lines if I go that route. Is there a way to use Index and Match in VB where it would be more efficient? I attached just a sample of how the data would be layed out in the Excel sheet.
I have weekly budget report (for the entire year) that I put in a Pivot Table with approx 20 different row labels. The actual revenue numbers come only once a month (several different reports make up the actual revenue numbers). I need to put the actual numbers on the same row as the budget numbers and I can't figure it out.
For example, for the first three months of the year, I have the pivot table showing everything perfectly. In February, I get January's actual revenue numbers that now "replace" the budget numbers for January. If this was a regular table, I could easily overwrite these numbers, but with the pivot table, I can't get these two fields to line up. For now, I have the Actual Revenue numbers on the Rows above the Budget numbers for their respective months/quarters.
I need to have a drop down list which displays a different set of values depending upon the value selected by a previous drop down list. ie. (drop down box 1)= x, y, z. (drop down box 2)= either x1, x2, x3, or y1, y2, y3, or z1, z2, z3. I can produce a single drop down box thats not a problem but linking several drop down boxes is beyond me .
how can i convert a column of hyperlinks that i have to the actual addreses. for instance, i may have in one cell ebay that would link to "www.ebay.com". i would like the cells in a column, or if not another column to display in text the actual addresses and not the word, if that makes sense. can i do this via worksheet formulae or is it in the realms of vba?
I currently have a drop down menu in one of my worksheets, in which I have several different text values entered. What I would like to do is link each of those text values to a numerical value, which would be entered in to another cell. So if I select "Option A" from my drop down list, and Option A is equal to 200, I want "200" to show up in another cell. If I select "Option B" from my drop down list, and Option B is equal to 400, I want "400 to show up in that same other cell.
I'm using a series of user forms for data entry to a workbook, some of them open next stage user form on completion (OK cmd button).
All that is working fine, but I'd like the initial form to close on showing the next one. I've tried adding Unload and Hide commands following the frmInsertEntry.Show (Next stage form), to no avail, but I'd like this user form to close or hide at the end of the sub.
Private Sub cmdContinueType_Click()
ActiveWorkbook.Sheets("Records").Activate 'Select starting cell in record sheet Range("N3").Select
Do If IsEmpty(ActiveCell) = False Then ' Search for next empty cell ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Select End If Loop Until IsEmpty(ActiveCell) = True
If optDrillType = True Then frmDrillEntry.Show Else frmInsertEntry.Show End If
I am capturing data to post to a database and the first field is the month which is selected from a drop-down list. When I post the record, column A in the database shows a drop down list for the month. How do I remove the drop-down in the database?
I am looking for a text box code that works with a search userform.
Basically, I search using my userform find function and if there are more than one record found I want to be able to either:
1) have the records found appear in a listbox 0r 2) have the first record appear in the userform but a text box will show I am on 1 of X records and when I click a command button, go the next record, which will be 2 of x records and so on...
VB:
Private Sub cmbNext_Click() Dim FirstCl As Range 'first data Entry Set FirstCl = Range("a2").End(xlDown).Offset(1, 0)
[Code] ....
This is the code for the button that goes to the next record but I am unsure how to relate that a listbox or text box that shows the record number I am on out of the total that there are.
I would also be looking for another button that goes back one record. So i am hoping it's as easy as reversing the code for the next record function.
I am not sure if the listbox that could show all I records and one can just be selected is easier than showing the textbox with the " 1 of X records".
I have a form I'm building that I want to put on the server to allow different people to complete as needed.
As they complete this form I want to take all the info they entered and have it go into a data base once there I want to clear the form for the next person.
I want to be able to use the same type of form to edit any of the fields in the data base selectively. I think I need to reverse the above code in some manner to accomplish this. What I can't get my head wrapped around is how to get to the correct row in the database to post the edited fields in the correct spot.
I need to construct a text only database to keep track of an ever changing catalogue. The contained data will have three levels to it and look something like this:
Company 1 ................Product 1 .............................Extra 1 .............................Extra 2 .............................Extra 3 ................Product 2 .............................Extra 1 .............................Extra 2 Company 2 ................Product 3 .............................Extra 4 ................Product 4 .............................Extra 4 .............................Extra 5 ...and so on
As you can see, the database will contain several companies, each selling their own products, each with certain extra's available. My main aim is to have an easily updateable list that can be summarised quickly into a company and their available products and extra's. The database hasn't been constructed yet. Have you guys got any tips or ideas on the best way of setting this out to keep it as flexible as possible?
My first thoughts were along these lines:
Company.........Product.........Extra ......1......................1.................1 ......1......................1.................2 ......1......................1.................3 ......1......................2.................1 ...and so on
Does this look to be the easiest way? Obviously there would be quite a bit of duplication in column A and B but as far as I can tell this is unavoidable.
I also have grand aspirations of having a front worksheet with a customised form that allows me to select the company from a dropdown list and then having it populate a list of the products and available extra's. Would I need to use VBA and if so how would I go about doing it? Is it possible to include something to export the results out to a new word or excel document? Eventually I would like to be able to hide the database and have data entry/removal made by way of a similar form. I must admit that this is currently out of my scope so chances are I may reply with further questions.
I have a drop down box in column N, however I would like the options in that drop down box to change depending on what appears in column M.
If column M Says "Lapse" then I want one drop down box to appear in column N, If coumn M says "NTU" then I would like column N to show different drop down options.
Lets say i have 2 columns A and B as shown below. I want to have a userform that has a list that shows the uniques in column A ie. 1,2,3 and a drop down next to each one that shows my options yes, no, maybe. If the user selects yes for 1 and submits the form i want all 1's in column a to have yes in column B.
A B 1 Yes 2 No 3 Maybe 1 Yes 2 No 3 Maybe 1 Yes 2 No 3 Maybe 1 Yes 2 No 3 Maybe
I want one procedure that will validate the CURRENT textbox (not named by name, to allow for the procedure to be included in the change event of several different textboxes), to see if it is numeric (decimal places allowed) in Excel 2007.
I followed the instructions here: {url}, which describe exactly what I want to do. So I put the final procedure listed on that page (the dynamic validation code) into the private module of the user form object as listed below:
Private Sub pipes_Change()
OnlyNumbers
End Sub
Private Sub OnlyNumbers() 'This procedure checks to see if the value 'of the current textbox is a number or not
If TypeName(Me.ActiveControl) = "TextBox" Then
If Not IsNumeric(.Value) And .Value <> vbNullString Then
MsgBox "Sorry, only numbers are allowed."
.Value = vbNullString
End If
End With
End If
End Sub
I then ran the form and typed a number into the "pipes" textbox that had been validated. A compile error is thrown: "Invalid or unqualified reference", highlighting the ".Value" portion of IsNumeric. I tried to remove certain parts of the code, such as the IF statement and the "And .Value <> vbnullstring", but nothing works. I have a feeling it is because this code was created for Excel 2003 (though I'm not certain).
I have created my first user form that puts the info gathered onto a seperate sheet.
We are a garage and its for cars that come into stock.
What I want to do is when we sell a car, have a way of removing the car from the database but recording the infomation that was in the first database and some additional infomation like who sold it and the selling price.
