Excel 2007 :: Looping Through Text Strings And Copying Based On Criteria
Sep 17, 2012
I have 2 excel files, let's call them 1.xlsx and 2.xlsx (excel 2007)
File 1 is the file where I want data copied into and file 2 is the file I want to copy data from.
File 1 has certain text strings in every say 5th column in always row 2. I want to find those strings in file 2 and if the string is found, go 6 rows down, copy the cell, and paste it into file 1, 8 rows down the text string. this is the code I came up with, but it doesn't work
Code:
Option Explicit
Sub get_data_from_2()
Dim i As Long
Dim j As Long
Dim FinalColumn As Long
Dim RngFrom As Range
I am trying to extract values from a text string and add them up in Excel 2007. So far i have been successful in extracting the value out of the text string like this - =MID(I6,AD6,3) where AD6 holds the position number in the text string to start from. So it's working OK for one row but i need to do the same thing on multiple rows where the text string can be in different columns and I'd like it to automatically pick up the non-blank cell.
each row only has one column with text in it and the value i need to extract is always after "$". this is a working spreadsheet so the text string could move from column to column over time and I'd like my formula to be able to detect which column to read from. I then need to add up all the values from each row.
I am looking for a way of creating the following conditioned concatenation.
I have two tables, let's call them "summary" and "detailed".
The "detailed" table is something like the following:
ID VOL
001 01
001 05
[code]....
The "summary" table below gets info from the "detailed" table. The 'ID'is now unique. I'm looking for a formula on the 'VOL (concatenated)' column cells it should get all rows from the "detailed" table with the same ID and then concatenate the 'VOL' column results, comma separated:
ID (unique) VOL (concatenated)
001 V01, V03, V05
002 V01, V04
003 V06
PS: I have people using this table with office 2003, so compatibility is necessary...
I just wrote two macros that each produce separate text files (call them 'A' and 'B'). I want to open 'B' with Excel VBA, copy all of its contents, and paste that content into 'A' right after a specific location in 'A' (where I have 10 consecutive asterisks, i.e., **********).
Most topics relating to Excel VBA and .txt files have to do with either importing / exporting into Excel (not what I want), or with associating .txt files to Excel (also not what I want).
I am trying to develop a code which extracts the data from text files inside a folder (Folder test in my desktop) into one sheet. The Macro is in the workbook “Text Extract” which is an excel 2007 file. The data of each text should be copied to Sheet1 of this workbook one below the other. For testing purpose I have kept only one text file in the folder and was trying to copy the data from the text data extracted sheet to Cell A1 of Sheet1 of workbook “Text Extract”. The code works fine till copying the data, but shows below error in the line “Selection.Paste”:
Run time error 438: Object doesn’t support this property or method.
Below is the code: Sub LoopThroughFiles() Dim strFile As String Dim strPath As String
I'm trying to populate a table based on two different criteria in a another table. On is based on a date and the other the number of a unit. I'm trying to get the data in sheets Week 1 and Week 2 into the format in sheet Example. Is there a way to create a series of functions, filters, etc that I could use to create a macro to do multiple sheets or at least a whole sheet at once? I've been trying to think through it with my limited knowledge of filters and functions
Here is the file with an example and I'm using Excel 2007: Example.xls
In a separate column on sheet 2 i want to return the value of the data in ACC1 if the data in DEB/CRED is LC or SC and the value of the data in ACC2 if the data in DEB/CRED is SD
Excel 2007. I have an Excel file that contains a data dump from an external database file with numerous analytical sheets that perform calculations. Some of these calculations utilize the SUMIFs function that was introduced in Excel 2007. This function does an outstanding job of summing a column on the data sheet based on multiple criteria.
However, someone high up in management in my organization would like to "drill down" into the data behind the
SUMIFs formulas to get a quick snapshot of the lines in the database that roll into the SUMIFs formula. =SUMIFS(DataBase!E:E,Data!A:A,C7,DataBase!B:B,D7,DataBase!C:C,E7,DataBase!D:D,F7)
If I double click on a cell with the formula above, Excel takes me to the Database tab and selects Column E which is close, but not exactly what I need. What I really need is for Excel to only show the rows on the database sheet that make up the total in the SUMIFs formula and not the entire data dump from the database.
At present, we have to manually apply the autofilter on multiple columns to show the rows in column E that make up the total in the SUMIFs formula which is a tedious and time consuming task. Is there a way to force Excel to do this? Suggested custom database application or pivot tables, but we do not want to reinvent the wheel.
Most details are shown in the spreadsheet below. I would like it to be dynamic because the quarterly and annual data dumps I'm working with are are hundreds to thousands of lines.
Have the list be sorted, which is a part of the first attempt, would be nice but is not necessary. At this point, just being able to generate the dynamic list would be fantastic.

I have a client with approximately 4-5000 Excel workbook files that all contain the old Jet connection string and these files do not run under Office 2010 without changing to the newer ACE connection string. It is just too much to open each file and change the connection string.
Is there a way to do a mass change - like global search and replace - the connection strings in the files? I have a text editor that is able to do that but I fear it may mess up the file.

In other words, I need to copy the text in blue so that it is above the text in black and the text in red so that it is below. Then I need the macro to repeat this procedure for each cell that it finds containing text in black. I have already created and run a macro to insert blank lines between each black text entry.
Using excel 2007. I am interested in writing a VBA code to delete rows based on the text starting content. I would like to delete rows with cells that do NOT start with an "S" or "SA"
How do I use an Excel formula to find which (if any) multiple sets, each of up to 50 words, exist in a series of rows of a spreadsheet - if set A has one or more words found in a searched cell.
A positive result will return a specific value in the designated result cell. If none of the words in Set A is found in the searched cell, the formulae will repeat the test for the words in Set B, and so on.
After all 50 sets of words have been tested, the formula will move to the next cell in the searched column.
New words will be added to the sets of words continually as required.
Multiple words within sets are included in double quotes. Within each set of words there will be some n-tuples of words (i.e. 24 adjacent words) that contain one or more of the words in the set, but for which the formula will be required to return a negative result. Example: Set A = word 1, word2, word 3, "word1 word2 word3". (The words within a set could also be each entered in separate columns, as opposed to all included in a single cell.) The single column of text to be searched is about 10,000 rows.
I am wanting to use the above in a spreadsheet that contains data downloaded from a series of bank accounts to automatically allocate items of expenditure to one of 20 or so different categories of expenditure.
The formula will search the description field to find words that are used in the in the downloaded files from the various accounts to describe each transaction.
If a word describing travel expenditure (e.g. hotel, "holiday inn" but not "holiday travel") is found in the description of an expenditure item - the item cost will be allocated to the TRAVEL EXPENDITURE column, which is one of 20 or so different categories of expenditure.
Happy to consider a different solution if the task can be done better a different way.
Tried using a combination of INDEX/SEARCH/IF in Excel, but was not able to get a correct result. PS I am using Excel 2011 for Mac - which does not allow macros, so the solution needs to be entirely formula based.
I'm using Excel 2007. I would prefer to stay away from the scripting side of the house if possible. This is basically a 3 day forcast weather chart. The top is the actual weather data, the bottom portion is a color coded reflection of how the weather affects various things.
This product is created in excel, but will be embedded into a powerpoint. It will be updated daily. Here is what I would like. I want the color chart at the bottom to update automatically based on the data I enter above. I have a grasp that I can update the color through conditional formatting, although im not exactly sure what that will look like with all of those cells.
I also figured out that I can insert the letters in those lower cells with something similar to " =IF(C6>90, "T", "") " which would put in a 'T' for Temperature when the temperature got above a certain degree.
I run into a problem when I have multiple factors affecting a single cell. For instance on the example in day 2 of my image. Personnel are affected by Temperate AND UV Index. How would I set up that cell to pull that information from both of those cells and display it accordingly? I would prefer the letters to stay separated by the comma, but I could live without that. The default cell color will be green, with the potential to be yellow or red. I left a few examples of possible situations on day 2 and 3.
(Excel 2007). I have a report that I download which looks like this: The actual report has about 10000+ lines
I don't really want a macro for it but a formula that would copy the name in column A down in Column C but only to the point where the next name starts. So for example James Brown would be copied down in Column C till it reach Account Number 81914 and so on?
A B C NameAccountJames Brown16836546259386014759716624957862380714557311623681914Steve Smith825168050422745213781459686708210378813700484308138459Holly Wood152663787051472924045442366165332455059500133525111211
I have set up a table and for ease of explanantion Column C has a formulas in it to add together the values found in Column A and B.
EG C3 foumula = "=sum(A3+B3)"
Now in cols d & e I have manually entered figures and in colum F I want to add up those figures so F3 should read "=sum(D3+E3)"
In the past I have always been able to just copy the cell C3 and paste it into F3 and the formula would automatically copy and offset the various cells to the correct cells for the new posiitoning.
However, for some reason when I copy the cell, it now pastes the value only into the pasted cell and does not copy the formula, if I click on paste special to try to just copy the formula I now get a pop up asking me if I want to paste as Unicode Text or Text.
I am creating many tables in excel using a macro, and I want to copy them into a word document for later use. All the tables come from a long list, so for simplicity, they all get created on the same range starting at F1. Before deleting the existing table and adding the new one, I'm trying to copy/cut the table and paste it into a word document.
In case it makes a difference, I have office 2007
VB: Sub ExcelToWord(LastRow) Dim objWord As Word.Application Range("F1:F" & LastRow).Copy With objWord .Documents.Add .Selection.Paste .Visible = True End With End Sub
I am trying to copy two columns to a different sheet in vba code. I will ultimately need to do this multiple times but I think I have the iteration part ok, it's just the copy part that seems to be wrong.
The original code I used for this works great on one column but I knew the letter column each time I used it. Now I am trying to get two columns at a time and will be iterating through several based on user selections. I figure that will be faster to do both columns as the two columns are side by side.
I am getting an error on the PasteSpectial line "Run-time error '1004' PasteSpecail method of Range class failed.
I'm not sure where to go with this but I am assuming I have a problem with the Range selection lines on either the source or destination or both. The support is just for Macro errors.
My knowledge of Excel 2007 is minimal, from formatting individual cells, to creating column totals. I've used it for years in my household budgets. I have an attendance form which is about 3 pages long; currently, it's separated at page breaks, with column totals at the bottom of each 'page'. This is easy because the Row #s are infinite, right? Lately there have been regular adjustments, and I believe the project might be less cumbersome if it were spread out on separate sheets, but how to bring the rows of column totals to cumulative totals on the last sheet.
I have some data coming in from another source system which has the date format as "DD-MM-YYYY" but while pasting it to Excel (2007) sheet some date fields has just DD-MM-YY format which disrupts my macro. I did changing the language settings to "English(UK)" ,which i wanted, and changed the same in Excel options as well. But unfortunately it doesn't work.
I'm a 2007 user. I am trying to conditional format a range of F1:J10, where F1 will be conditionally formatted relationally to A1. G1 is relational to B1. H2 relational to C2, etc., all the way down to J10 relational to E10. My conditional format formula in cell F1 is >A1*2 (will format F1 as orange). I want to be able to copy the conditional formatting over so the formula in J10 for example would be: >E10*2 (will format it orange).
I omit the "$" in the conditional format formula in an attempt to prevent it from being absolute. But every time I copy the conditional formatting over to the other cells, the formula within those cells remains identical to the formula in the original cell.
I need a formula or array to perform the following in Excel 2010:
I have 2 worksheets "Master Report" and "Free text comments". The master report will be shaed with individuals but the Free Text comments worksheet will not.
sample feedback report.xlsx
In cells D2 downwards on the "Master Report" I want to show the individual feedback comments from the "Free Text comments" worksheet that have been made by other people for the individual named in cell A2 on the "Master Report" worksheet. So on James' master report it would show the 8 individual comments listed for him on the Free text comments" worksheet.
I have searched the internet and tried various combos of lookups, IFs, index and match but have not come across the right formula yet.
I have been trying to format the rows on this sheet to color scale red based on the number of repeat text strings in Column E. Referring to the attached example sheet, '321/312.2/321.3' appears the most times and the goal is to color code the rows it appears in the deepest shade of red, then the next highest occurring string would shade the rows it appears in a lighter shade, etc, in descending order. Our team currently does this across multiple sheets manually everyday and it would be a real time saver if we could get excel to do this automatically.
I have conditional formatting set up so that the cell becomes highlighted if it contains a specific text.
Example of wanted conditional formatting:
Conditional formatting rules manager Rule
Format
Applies to
Stop if true
[Code] ......
For some reason this formatting is inherited by another adjacent cell as we continue to input information.
For example:
Column M is formatted so if 'AP' is placed in any cell in that column the cell fills pink. As more information is inputted into the sheet, the conditional formatting copies to Column N. It does not happen with every entry and I have not been able to isolate the specific steps to recreate the copying. Multiple people use the same sheet and fill it out and needed.
After working with the sheet changes are made to the "applies to" column without people meaning to.
For example:
Conditional formatting rules manager Rule
Format
Applies to
[Code] .......
I would like to make this formatting so that is only applies to the Column M and not "travel" to other cells of the sheet.
I am using MS Excel 2007 and I am trying to create a macro which will copy column E and paste the data in column E to the bottom of column D. However each week the amount of rows in these column with vary, they will always be the same amount of rows in column E as in column D but there may be 20 rows one week and a 100 rows the next.
The formula I currently have is below but this will only work for a specified number of rows. How I could change this to work for any number of rows?
Code: Sub IPT() ' ' IPT Macro ' ' Range("E1").Select
is there a way to reduce spaces between text stings to one space only when there are many spaces? To make it worse, the number of spaces between the text strings vary. I am using Excel 2010.
There is a Summary sheet from where data has to be copied to 3 different sheets(for 3 accounts) I have highlighted the columns that have to be copied. The macro will be run everyday, and each day only 3 rows from Sheet Summary will be copied to the other sheets.
Important point: Only copy rows that have Column D value = GBP Which Sheet to copy to? Check Column A --- Case 100 = Sheet(ONE) Case 200 = Sheets(TWO) Case 300 = Sheet (Three)
The Orange ones Column C,I, and N are copied as follows: C goes to Column A, I goes to Column C, and N goes to Column J in one of the 3 output sheets. It should not overwrite previously existing data, simply copy to next empty Row (By Empty Row I mean Column A is empty, columns after M may have values in many rows)
Then the Yellow columns. I need them copied on W26:W32. So thats cells in Column E,J,K,L,M,R going to W26:W32. These yellow column figures must OVERWRITE previous data (unlike the Orange). The Blue cells that you see in Sheets (ONE,TWO and THREE) contain formulae that I want copied down to the Next Row when there is an entry made in Column A.....
