Excel 2007 :: Search Box Function - Return Value / Text Not Location

I need code for a search box function, that returns the information recorded in a cell for example, "Barcelona" or "London" etc), instead of the location of the cells.

I will need to narrow it down to search only the information in the following columns:

Sheet2
I2:J10932

I am totally new to VBA coding and have stumbled my way through a few things, but everything I have searched for so far has had at least one error when transposing to Excel.

I am running Excel 2007.

I use the following formula in excel 2007 (and it's working perfectly in 2007) but this formula does not work if I work with the same file in excel 2003 ...w why and what I have to adjust?

Excel 2007 :: Using INDEX And MATCH Function To Return Header Value

currently using Excel 2007 with Windows Vista.

I currently have a worksheet where I want to input a date (G2) and a rank value (H2) ranging from 1 to 4. The header value (B1:E1) corresponding to the date (A2:A4) and the rank (B2:B4) should be returned to I2 (currently returns #NA).

Using formula: =INDEX($B$1:$E$1,MATCH(H2,INDEX($B$2:$E$4,MATCH(G2,$A$2:$A$4),)))

which I found under: Find row, find value, then return column heading

However, the above formula does not seem to work with my date order or recurring data values of 1 to 4 over the 3 rows.

The worksheet layout is as follows:

Date

A

B
C
D

Date

Rank

Header

[code]....

The return value under Header should be C.

I have reversed the order of the dates and put sequential numbers in B2:B4 as plug variables and the above formula will return the correct Header value but I need the formula to work with the current date order and repeating rank values of 1 to 4 in B2:B4. Do not wish to use VBA.

VBA Function To Search Partial String And Return Value?

I'm trying to come up with a VBA function that would return cell values based on another cell value.

I can do this by comparing a range (column of cells) with the cell value to match and then return the value of the cell next to it.

For instance,

The function should search a column for partial text, as follows:

TS ID
PDT ID

TS 1.1
PDT 1

TS 1.2
PDT 2

TS 1.3
PDT 3

TS 2.1
PDT 4

TS 2.2
PDT 5

TS 3.1
PDT 6

TS 3.2
PDT 7

In the above table, the function should for partial text and return string as follows:

TS covered
PDTs

TS 1.1, TS 1.2, TS 1.3
PDT 1, PDT 2, PDT 3

TS 2.1, TS 2.2
PDT 4, PDT 5

TS 3.1, TS 3.2
PDT 6, PDT 7

So basically I am searching for partial text TS 1. and so on

I am trying to search for a phrase in a particular column but the excel search function is returning !Value as an error...

Both fields are text so nit sure what is wrong here.

I have a list of cities that i want to cross reference across a cloumn of notes on another sheet. So, I really want to search for the city (Sheet1 Cell A1) in Notes Sheet2 Cell A1) and I want to return it in Sheet1 Cell B1 Whether it exisits in the notes. I then want to copy this down my list of cities in Sheet1 Column a.

File name is customer_list_xxxxxx.xlsx The x's are a date which changes every day or week. So a new file will be uploaded to the sharepoint path.

I'm trying to create a spreadsheet using several others in several different formats. What i need to do is search for a text string eg "EVP" in one column and return the numerical value of the cell in the column next to it - then sum all the values and create a table in the new sheet eg.

Search Range Of Cells For Text And Return Value Below It - Sum If More

I want to search within cells A4:F25 for "B71 - Brown" and show the number that is in the cell below this text. If there is multiple cells with "B71 - Brown" I would like the cell to show the total.

So for example,If the formula was looking for "B71 - Brown" in the cell it would show 8136. (A13+A21+D25+E17). If i changed it to "Lavender" it would show 2380. (C5)

Also this data is linked from several other sheets and the values i search for will change and will need to update.

Macro To Search Text & Return Values

I have a spreadsheet containing several names. I want a formula or macro that will search a string of text within the cell. If the text exists within the cell, I need a code to populate. For example,

In cell E2, search for a phrase anywhere in the cell that contains "COM". In cell H2 look for the exact phrase "ASB". When "COM" is found in E2 and "ASB" is found in H2, in cell U2 return the value "COM ASBTVL".

In my case, E2 may not contain "COM", it may contain "DEN" instead. In that case, if E2 contains "COM", and if "H2" contains "SVC", then in U2 populate "COM APPSVC"

I'm guessing in my code I will need to list a set of criteria that will search row by row and return certain values when finding the text I specify.

Would a macro be best for this? Does anyone know how I would put that together?

using Excel 2007. I need a code to identify a worksheet within a workbook by cell/range value. The book is used by various users. They have the rights to add new sheets and all but delete columns in the 'master worksheet'. The sheet names can be changed by the user but I need to rename the master sheet on opening the file. To do this I have put a specific value in a cell within the master worksheet which then should allow me to find the sheet and rename it. (let say Range A1 has a value of "this sheet") I have a mental block on how i can run a loop to search each sheet for the identifying value until the range and value is found and the sheet identified

1. Search an excel sheet "column" for a particular type of text and insert values based on that text (if found) in another column.

e.g I have column A1 to A10 with different types of text. I would like to search for the keyword "Risk is high" OR "Risk=High" for each cell in the column and insert a "1" if found beside it's corresponding "B" column. If not found, I would like to insert a "0".

So, if the text "Risk is high" OR "Risk=High" was only found in A6, I would like B6 to be "1". Rest of the values in the B column would be "0's", since the text was not found in any of the other cells.

I have a workbook containing multiple sheets for documents issued to manufacturers. I have a summary sheet which contains all of the documents and I would like to be able to look up a document number against all the sheets, and return the name (or names if multiple finds) of the sheets containing this document.

I have got close to solving this by finding another post[URL] .... but I believe this doesn't work because it searches on values rather than matching text.

I have attached a simplified example file with the sheets to search being Fab 1, Fab 2 and Fab 3, and the formula need to go into column B of the Main Sheet.

I have two sheets, one of which contains film names and the other contains our tag structure for our website (which is a list of tags, their keywords and the primary parent channel they live under).

What I am trying to do is search the film titles and if any of the words match either the tag name or keywords then return the relevant channel.

Example:

Sheet 1 - Films
How To Apply Bridal Makeup
How To Fight A Donkey
How To Write Excel Formulae

Sheet 2 - Tags
Channel / Tag / Keywords
Tech - Microsoft - windows vista xp word excel

So, for film 3 on Sheet 1 it would recognise the word Excel in the keyword list and return the channel Tech.

I have a complex list of text (a chart of accounts) with various roll ups for subtotals on one worksheet, and monthly download on another worksheet showing the name of the account and the value. I wish to use match the text to return the value in the front sheet and avoid taking the simple route of linking the cells in case additions are added during the year.

I've tried using IF and VLOOKUP formulas without success - i guess becasue I cannot sort the table in descending order?

What would be the best sort of formula to search using the text, and return a value on the same row?

In column D of each sheet there is a unique number (approx. 8 - 10 digits ) that I would like to at the press of a command button search through sheets "RED" "WHITE" "GOLD" & "BLUE" against the unique numbers in the "MASTER" sheet and if there any duplicates numbers delete the entire row but leave all the data in the master sheet.

I am wondering if the user can use 2 boxes to search and populate the record.

Ie./ Box 1= Vehicle Registration Box 2= Date

This sheet will be used throughout each month and each vehicle registration may have more than one record that month

So I need the user to be able to input the vehicle reg and for the form to populate the relevant record.

I current have a Unique reference which is a combo box that once you select it auto populate the record but this will take forever having to populate ach record to find which one the user is looking for.

Excel 2007 :: Cannot Get Worksheet Name To Return With Formula

I am working on a sheet that will copy a specified number of sheets, rename them, set a cell within the equal to a cell from another sheet and (the problem) set cells on my input sheet equal to cells in the newly copied and renamed sheets.

I want the cells in sheet "Data Input" to look something like "='newsheet'E26"

I can make it return the actual number in the cell and return the formula in the cell, but not make the cell in "Data Input" reference the cell in the new book.
