Jan 18, 2008I am trying to use a function to search for a particluar value (e.g., ssn) in one column and return the "InDate" in another column. I thought this would be easy, but I'm having considerable trouble. When I do manage to get a value returned, it's the wrong value. I need to return the most recent "InDate" for the ssn that I search for. The button on the " Lookup" sheet is to sort the InDate column descending so that the Excel function will start with the most recent date when it searches. I've tried Lookup and and just about every other similar function with no luck. I originally wanted to search for a ssn and return the information for the last 5-10 most recent visits, but gave up on that long ago.

Return Rows Based On Latest Date AND Highest Quantity For Given ID
Dec 10, 2012I'm trying to return a distinct list of rows that filter based on the latest date and largest quantity for each distinct AccountID and ProductID combination.
I tried some variant of the =max function, but I need two filters.
The purpose of this is to create a data set of all company accounts with the most recent number of products used to upload to a database.
The simplified and original data set is as follows:
AccountID
ProductID
Company
Date

May 12, 2014I want to search within cells A4:F25 for "B71 - Brown" and show the number that is in the cell below this text. If there is multiple cells with "B71 - Brown" I would like the cell to show the total.
So for example,If the formula was looking for "B71 - Brown" in the cell it would show 8136. (A13+A21+D25+E17). If i changed it to "Lavender" it would show 2380. (C5)
Also this data is linked from several other sheets and the values i search for will change and will need to update.
Macro To Search Text & Return Values
Jan 9, 2009I have a spreadsheet containing several names. I want a formula or macro that will search a string of text within the cell. If the text exists within the cell, I need a code to populate. For example,
In cell E2, search for a phrase anywhere in the cell that contains "COM". In cell H2 look for the exact phrase "ASB". When "COM" is found in E2 and "ASB" is found in H2, in cell U2 return the value "COM ASBTVL".
In my case, E2 may not contain "COM", it may contain "DEN" instead. In that case, if E2 contains "COM", and if "H2" contains "SVC", then in U2 populate "COM APPSVC"
I'm guessing in my code I will need to list a set of criteria that will search row by row and return certain values when finding the text I specify.
Would a macro be best for this? Does anyone know how I would put that together?

May 7, 2013I have a workbook containing multiple sheets for documents issued to manufacturers. I have a summary sheet which contains all of the documents and I would like to be able to look up a document number against all the sheets, and return the name (or names if multiple finds) of the sheets containing this document.
I have got close to solving this by finding another post[URL] .... but I believe this doesn't work because it searches on values rather than matching text.
I have attached a simplified example file with the sheets to search being Fab 1, Fab 2 and Fab 3, and the formula need to go into column B of the Main Sheet.

I have two sheets, one of which contains film names and the other contains our tag structure for our website (which is a list of tags, their keywords and the primary parent channel they live under).
What I am trying to do is search the film titles and if any of the words match either the tag name or keywords then return the relevant channel.

Complex List - Search For Text And Return Value In Table
Jan 20, 2014I have a complex list of text (a chart of accounts) with various roll ups for subtotals on one worksheet, and monthly download on another worksheet showing the name of the account and the value. I wish to use match the text to return the value in the front sheet and avoid taking the simple route of linking the cells in case additions are added during the year.
I've tried using IF and VLOOKUP formulas without success - i guess becasue I cannot sort the table in descending order?
What would be the best sort of formula to search using the text, and return a value on the same row?

Oct 11, 2012I am in need of a vlookup formula that will return a value that corresponds to the latest day in a month. Example:
Column A had dates in format 1/3/2012 ect....
Column B is a $ amount
Column C is a date in format Oct-12 ect...
I want column D to be a formula that match up column C's month in column A and return the $ in column B that corresponds to the latest day in the month. IN the example above it would returna value for Oct 31 (if there was one), Oct 30 next and then Oct 29 ect...
So if column A had October dates of: 10/1, 10/4, 10/17 and thats it in Oct then it would show the 10/17 $ in column B.

I want to retrieve the lastest 5 entries for a specific column (column AA), but not blank ones. Then I want to retrieve latest 5 entries for column AC. On a seperate sheet I want the entries to be seen in order and I want it to change as new data is entered into the table. In the end I'll have the latest 5 entries for Internal (Column AA) and then after that the latest 5 entreis for External (Column AC).

VBA - Search For Multiple Text Strings In Data Field And If Matched Return One Word
May 7, 2014I have hundreds of records of customer info and I am trying to categorize the job titles so that I can conduct some analysis with a pivot table. My problem is that there is about 20 different ways and variations of "manager" so Instead of autofiltering for "mrg." "Manager" "marketing manager" ect. and then replacing the text manually and using the enter and fill process (to create some standardization to compare "manager" to "director" to "c-level" to "consultant", etc.) and repeating this process over and over again...
I would like to create a VBA that would search the column "job title" for multiple text strings at once and if the text string was true in the cell then the cell would be replaced by a new text string "Manager". I was thinking a series of if functions within one vba but I am not sure if this is possible.

Return Latest Reported Figure By Firm In Panel Data
Apr 16, 2013I have data for various firms - such as revenues, employees, etc. - for multiple time periods. There is no uniformity, so for some firms I'll have data for 8 time periods, for others for 1, for others for 30, etc. I have hundreds of columns, but the three relevant ones are: in one column is firm ID, in another column in reporting date, and in another column is number of employees.
The attached sample data will make it easier to understand.
I'd like a summary table that tells me the most recent reported number of employees for each firm, and the date of that reported figure. If that firm never reported any employee figures, then the summary table should still have a row for that firm ID, but blanks in the 'reporting date' and 'employees' columns. So, the summary table should be 3 columns - firm ID, reporting date and employees.
The challenging aspect is that the most recent reported employee figure is not always the most recent date on which we got data from the firm (so I can't just do a sort followed by a 'remove duplicates'). It'll need either a multi-step formula solution or a VBA code (that's my guess).
The attached sample data will make it easier to understand. It has the form of data I have and the desired output form.

Text Search :: Find A Match When Date Entered

Column J is the date opened. Column T is the date closed. Of course,
column T will have no date if still open.
Column K and O may or may not have text.
Column AF6 has a date, mm/dd/yyyy, that is entered/changed depending on the search.
What I need is a formula in AF8 that will look at the date entered in AF6 and find a match in columns J and T. Then it will look to see if there is text in K and O. If so, populate AF8 with that text.

I've manage to use the SUMPRODUCT (below) formula but want to expand on this so the SUM can be shown on another sheet(summary page). =SUMPRODUCT((ISNUMBER(FIND({"nmlclex06"},A1:A10)))*(B1:B10)) In this example I search for the text "nmlclex06" and SUM the size, but don't have a date range and don't know how to SUM the data on another sheet.
