I am trying to calculate the length of time of employment. I am looking for a formula to subtract the date of hire from the date of termination.
My current example is:
5/24/12 - 11/3/10 = 568
There is a problem with my formula as the answer of 568 is currently meaningless. How do I convert this?

I have a table of data (total 142 rows). Column contains dates, in the format dd-mmm-yyyy.
I tried to filter using DATE FILTERS->EQUALS and in the custom filter window, I chose EQUALS then picked a date from the date picker icon. The date I picked was 5/4/2009 (this is May 4, 2009, formatted automaticall by excel as m/d/yyyy).
When I clicked OK, nothing showed up despite the fact that there are 6 occurences of May 4, 2009 (formatted as dd-mmm-yyyy in the data table)
So my questions are:
1. Is this due to the formatting?
2. Is there a way to change the date format supplied by the date picker?
I need to devise a formula by which Excel will automatically award employees with service-incentive leave on their anniversary date, starting TWO YEARS after they were hired.
For example, if John Doe was hired on 02/20/1998, he earns 1 day leave beginning 02/20/2000 and on each hire anniversary thereafter. How do I make Excel do that?
I have a business and i run payroll for my employees twice a month (semimonthly).
Date of paycheck will be 16th and 31st.
So if employee was hired on say 7/5/2009 then this employee will have 3 paychecks as of today
(1st paycheck from 7/1/2009 to 7/15/2009
2nd Paycheck from 7/16/2009 to 7/31/2009
3rd Paycheck from 8/1/2009 to 8/15/2009)
i need to know the # of pay checks for each employee computed in Cell C3 to C7.
I am trying to take the year from today's date then subtract away a date from a referenced date in a separate workbook. Then I want to put this result into an IF statement. For example if the result is between the number 1 and 4, display 1, if the result is between 5 and 9, display 2, etc. Right now, I'm simply trying to reference the separate workbook for the date and subtract that from today's date, but I'm stuck because I only get the date's serial number back.

I have a working week that starts at 07:00 on a Monday morning and finishes at 14:30 on a Friday afternoon.
For planning purposes I need to know at any given point how many working hours are left. The reason for this is so that I can multiply that figure by the amount of Engineers available which will give me the amount of Man Hrs left in the week.
For example - if it is 11:00am on the Tuesday, how many working hours are left ....
I've tried a number of examples but I can't seem to get it to work. the desired results in column C.

Is there any formula that I can use when working with a specific date range and if someone's birthday falls in that range a certain text or value would be displayed? For example I want to create a spreadsheet for my soccer players and have them sorted into teams according to their birthdays. So if their birthday falls into the following date range: 08/01/05-07/01/07 a U-8 or U-10 would be displayed in the corresponding cell. I tried working with the IF function.

In column B3:B367, I have dates for every day of the year. In column D3:D367, I have body weight for every day of the year. This gets filled in on a daily basis.
What I'm looking to do:
1. Find the first daily weight for the month.
2. Find today's weight.
3. See if today's weight falls within the specified month.
4. Compare the first daily weight of the month with today's weight.
I am able to accomplish #1 with LOOKUP, #2 with LOOKUP, and #4 with IF/THEN. For the life of me, I cannot comprehend how to do #3.

Turntime is calculated with this formula:

What I need is to not count the first day it is received in the calculation for the Turn Time. So in this instance I need the Turn Time to say 8 instead of 9. If I just subtract a 1 then I get an error if the Approved Date or the Denied Date are not filled in yet.
In the workbook the sheet names are month names e.g. july,august,September etc and 1st of each month is to be entered in a cell in each the sheets. By some trial and error I wrote this macro

It worked. Even if I use shortened 3 letter form of month like "Jul" or "aug" then also it works
But if type on the spreadsheet itself

It Gives value error.
Perhaps it works only in vba and not spreadsheet.
I accept nobody is going to use "july" & "/1/2013" instead of 7/1/2013 But this will be useful if sheet names are month names so that when we write the date we can use sheet names Mine excel 2007 and windows 7.
I have an Excel report that I import from IBM Clear Quest tool (Web App). A field, 'Submit_date' in this report has data in the following format:
'Jan 12, 2012 12:00:00 AM'
If I double-click in the cell the cursor is after the AM. When I click outside of the cell, the date time stamp changes to 1/12/2012.
My question is, how to change the entire column so that all data gets converted to short date (mm/dd/yyyy) and thereby making it a data sortable field.
I select the date from drop down calendar in excel and linked with one cell. when i use the date in vlookup formula it does not work due to linked cell date format.

I need to insert a date modified column to an Excel 2007 workbook I am currently using. The columns range is from A to L, with about a hundred data points. However, I would like to have the date modified cell update only when there are changes to rows F through L, starting with row 3.
I need the code to still function if I add rows, and it would be great if it would also still run if I added columns, but that part is not necessary. I've gotten close by defining a cell name as myCol and using this code:

I'm creating my task file in excel 2007. In this file there is column for task description, Intimation date, start date, Set completion date, completion date and remarks. I want in intimation date cell, cell contain the date which is 5 days before the start date and the cell/text(date) blink until the start date come. if the task completed in the defined completion date, "complete in time" is written automatically in remarks column, and if completion date is after the set completion date for the task "delay in completion" written automatically in remarks column.

I have a question about conversion of a text format into date format.
2 computers, the first windows vista, the second Windows 8, both Excel 2007.
The purpose is to calculate the difference between 2 dates with hour:minutes:seconds, like for example:
18/12/2012 19:20:00 and 18/12/2012 19:23:03.
So in this example the result should be 00:03:03.
Both dates are formatted with 'personalized' : dd/mm/yyyy hh/mm.
In the first computer everything works like it should, but in the second it is apparently impossible to transform the first of those date h:m:s which is originally in a text format into a date format. I tried all the methods which i found to transform a text date format into a date , like multiplication with 1, Datevalue and others, but nothing seems to work, the result is always "#Value".
