Excel 2010 :: Average Non-Blank Or Zero Cells
Sep 10, 2012
I have a sequence of 40 columns of data, representing 10 weeks worth of events with 4 values per week
I need to average the first pair for each week, ignoring zeros and blanks, and also separately the 2nd pair of cells, across the whole 40 columns
I am trying to come up with a neater solution which takes into account the zeros, at the moment I have the following which does not, for row 34
=IF($AR34>0,ROUND(AVERAGE(D34:E34,H34:I34,L34:M34,P34:Q34,T34:U34,
X34:Y34,AB34:AC34,AF34:AG34,AJ34:AK34,AN34:AO34)*2,2),0)
I could use SUM, COUNT COUNTIF etc but its gonna get messy

I am using Excel 2010 and basically i am trying to fill a range of cell with a green color if any value was enter in a specific cells. Example: I would like to fill range: A10:c13 with a green color (regardless of the cells content in this range) if a value was entered in cell C10 or C11 or C12 or C13.
I've tried conditional formatting but unfortunately I'll have to apply formatting for every cell and for a range of over hundred cells is not efficient.

I have created a comparison sheet and compares my old one from last week to the new one I create for this week.
It populates cells with the differences and shows me the data from the new sheet. But since my they are so massive A5:AZ20,000 I want to create an auto summary or something.
Column A has each properties Unique Identifier And the rest is various info for the property. I would like it to return my unique ID and then the columns with new data that has showed up from the comparison some are text and some are numbers.
Also I am using Excel 2010.

In earlier versions if I used the double clicked the autofill handle it would only fill down to the next adjacent cell containing data. Now it fills down to the bottom of all the data regardless of whether there is a blank cell or not e.g
X X X Z
X X X Z
X X X Z
X X
X X X
Now this happens
X X X Z
X X X Z
X X X Z
X X ...Z
X X X Z
How can I stop this as I need to enter different data in the next section?

I am using Excel 2010 and I am trying to average the amount of days in a month to a daily average per person in my worksheet.
Total sales per person
A5 = 10 - This is the Grand total per person for column A
A6 =4
A7=6
Daily average per person
C5=2.6 - Average for all persons here
C6=2.0
C7=3.0
The formula I am using is:
=(SUMPRODUCT($A$6:$A$15,C6:C15))/$A5
Which gives me an answer of 2.6 in cell C5 as shown above which is what I am wanting.
Please note that my cell range for my staff goes from 6-15 for both Column A and C where the other cells are blank in both columns.
My question is, If I was to clear all the data in both Columns A6:A15 and C:6:C15, cell C5 would return to a #VALUE. How to I change the formula so that if the cells were Blank, cell C5 would also be blank until I enter data for each person again?

I have a spreadsheet which is used by users unfamiliar with Excel. They are using the filter to select records, however when this is used some records appear which have no entry in the cells of that column. Can I overcome this? There is no data in the blank cells, other than a data validation drop down.

The below piece of code carries out a vlookup on a defined cells value and produces a result in sheet one, however if the column index number in sheet 2 (Database) is empty the result 00/01/1900 is produced.
I'm not sure how to say leave the result blank if the column index number is blank.
Excel 2010
Userform = Tab 1
Database = Tab 2

I have a 2010 excel sheet containing 14 columns and 45082 rows in total. I am quite illiterate when it comes to writing macros but I know that what I need can be achieved with a set of codes.
To be more clear, I inserted two tables below. The first one represents the current data structure, and the second one is the way I want my data to look like.
Current data structure looks like

I am using Excel 2010 and I am currently trying to find the Avg Min / Avg Max costs for 4 different groups.. Players, Accompanying, Coaches, Medical.
I need it to get the minimum values from 3 different sections ( I am using custom names for them such as PlayerReg for Player Registration costs ) once it gathers the minimum / maximum values from the 3 different sections it needs to add them together to display the Avg Minimum / Maximum for each group.
At the moment I have =MIN(Total_Discount_7_Nights + PlayerReg + FrequentFlierFare) under Minimum /w Frequent Flier although the minimum value it should detect is $948.75 it displays $1115.
For maximum I have
=MAX(Total_Discount_7_Nights + PlayerReg + FrequentFlierFare) under Maximum /w Frequent Flier although once again this value should be $1174.50
Although for some reason it displays $978.75 - which is the minimum cost. The Maximum figures for the other groups (Accompanying, Coaches and Medical) don't even display values Instead it just has #VALUE! in which I'm guessing I have something wrong with it.

Basic Excel-2010 functions.
I have given a table with some decimal values like e.g 0.3658 0.358 0.485 0.7863 0.558 0.858 0.985, I want to find the sum and average of these number.
1) I have tried the autosum or auto Function =AVERAGE(A2:A7) but it yields #DIV/0! error
2) when I use =AVERAGEA(A2:A7), it yield ans=0
3) puttin =ROUND(AVERAGEA(H2:H23);3) also yields 0;

I am working with Excel 2010 and I have a problem that I can't seem to figure out. I am trying to find the first nonzero cell and begin an average function from that cell and down through 29 rows (a total of 30 rows).
Sub average()
FinalRow = Cells(Rows.Count, 3).End(xlUp).Row
For I = 3 To FinalRow
If Cells(I,3).Value 0 Then
'I use the above to identify the first nonzero cell
ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "average(........)
This is where I am stuck, I don't know how to code the first nonzero (which can change with different data) cell and average rows below it.

In our sql server table, we have a field of type DATETIME. This field is populated by a vendor product with the elapsed time of an event.
We created a SQL Server view of this column and other columns of info joined together from several tables.
Then we create in Excel 2010 a new spreadsheet with a data connection to the SQL Server, instance, and view that we created.
Excel 2010 displays each of the columns in our view.
The elapsed time column appears as "dd hh:mm:ss". However, when we click on a cell to look at its formatting, Excel lists it as general.
We want to calculate the average time in this column.
We go down below the data, click on a cell, and insert =Average(C2:C17215) and we get an error saying dividing by zero.
We have 17,000+ rows of data, so there is no divide by zero math going on here. Each row in this column has data, so there are no blank cells.
We have spent some time web searching. We then tried various methods of calculating this. Nothing has worked. In most cases, we get the divide by zero. We tried some solutions that mention using an array forumula, but that just changed the error to an invalid value error.

I have a problem and I found a good explanation of something similar here:
[URL]
In the original posting the following formula solves the problem (attached) TestData.xlsx
B1: =AVERAGE(INDEX(B3:B100,MATCH(TRUE,B3:B100<>0,0)):INDEX(B3:B100,MATCH(TRUE,B3:B100<>0,0)+4))
What I would like to return is the average of the 1st 5 values, but what if a number of cells after the first value were also blank

Please find the attached MS Excel 2010 file <average set.xlsx>.
There is set of positive set & negative set of values available in the Column A. The values are plotted against Column A in Column B. Light green are positive sets and light yellow are negative sets.
Now I want to calculate the average for the positive set & negative set of values as shown in light majenta in the cells F4:F9. Also all majenta cells to be plotted by formula.
The Column H and Column I also same as like above , but here negative set of numbers starts first.

I have a scenario where I have a rolling list of sales figures which get added to each week that passes.
I need a formula that will calculate the last 5 weeks of sales and generate an average - which I think I have an idea how to do.
The sticking point is that so as not to skew the averages, when there has been an exceptionally busy or quiet day for a reason we know about I exclude the sales from that week.
This then interferes with the averages as it either takes it as a zero and lowers it or seems to stop formulas from working.
So to summarise:
Average of last 5 weeks sales
Excluding any blanks
Dynamic enough to always pick up the last 5 values in the list (i.e. the last 5 weeks)

I have an array formula that calculates the average of numbers between two dates:
{=AVERAGE(IF('Date Range'!$B:$B>$H$4,IF('Date Range'!$B:$B<=$B$3,'Numbers to Sum'!$C:$C)))*100}
The start date is the day after the date in H4 and the end date is in cell B3. The dates are in column B and the numbers to sum associated with these dates are in column C.
Some of the cells in column C are blank and my formula is taking these blanks into account in calculating the average, while I would prefer not to count them in the calculation.
Can someone please suggest how I could amend the formula above to accommodate this?

I have a column of data that contains various blank cells where no data was measured. In the adjacent column I want to take the moving average of the last 4 data points including the most recent entry. My problem is i do not know how to handle blank cells where there was no data. I need it to average the last four in the column where data acutally exists. I am ok with using helper cells if needed and I am not worried about the first four results at this time.
Example data
A..................B
15
50
25
20................55
Blank............55
30................31.25
35................27.5
blank............27.5
blank............27.5
15................25
10................22.5
15................18.75
40................20
blank.............20

I've got a spreadsheet that I do every month with columns of numbers that I average. This sheet has to match about 10 others similar. The columns are divided by Weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays. But some months there are no entries for certain cells on Saturday or Sunday.
I thought that if I just used the Average function, it would dismiss and not count the blank cells. Alas, apparently not. I've highlighted in yellow the one column that I'm really having trouble with.

I am trying to get a rolling 8wk avg of a large group of data. I am trying to take the avg of 8 vlookups:
=AVERAGE(VLOOKUP($A$9,'Raw Data'!$A:$DV,MATCH(B8,'Raw Data'!$2:$2,0), FALSE),VLOOKUP($A$9-7,'Raw Data'!$A:$DV,MATCH(B8,'Raw Data'!$2:$2,0), FALSE),VLOOKUP($A$9-14,'Raw Data'!$A:$DV,MATCH(B8,'Raw Data'!$2:$2,0), FALSE),VLOOKUP($A$9-21,'Raw Data'!$A:$DV,MATCH(B8,'Raw Data'!$2:$2,0), FALSE),VLOOKUP($A$9-28,'Raw Data'!$A:$DV,MATCH(B8,'Raw Data'!$2:$2,0), FALSE),VLOOKUP($A$9-35,'Raw Data'!$A:$DV,MATCH(B8,'Raw Data'!$2:$2,0), FALSE),VLOOKUP($A$9-42,'Raw Data'!$A:$DV,MATCH(B8,'Raw Data'!$2:$2,0), FALSE),VLOOKUP($A$9-49,'Raw Data'!$A:$DV,MATCH(B8,'Raw Data'!$2:$2,0), FALSE))
However, in some cases, the cell to be looked-up may be blank. Using the formula above, the result of these vlookups is "0". I want to take the average of these vlookups excluding the blanks from the 'Raw Data' sheet.

Is it possible to show "0" zero in the total average column without inputing zeros in the blank cells in row B3:E3 & B4:E4? There are months we receive no boat & RV orders, so those months wll be zero most of the time. Instead of having #DIV/0! it show 0, without having to input zero in cells to compute the average.
