I need to add a background picture to a spreadsheet that only shows on the print area.
This spreadsheet is being used as a pro forma invoice that can be emailed to customers for them to view & print as required.
At the moment I can add a background image but this appears throughout the sheet and not in the place I need it to i.e. the print area.
I have a workbook with multiple sheets that I need to print.
Is there a way to create a fixed print area within which you can mess around with formatting without extending or shrinking the print area?
I have tried adjusting the margins settings so that they are all the same, but this does nothing to keep a fixed print area.

I'm trying to make a map of 14 regions where each region changes brightness depending on values in the worksheets. I think I've got this bit sorted. I'm planning on creating the map using a collection of tessellated shapes or images, and using VBA to alter the properties of each one to create a dynamic map.
The output of the individual maps from MapInfo, our GIS software, is in .png or .jpg. format, and come with a white background. Is there any way to either make the background transparent so multiple shapes can be tessellated effectively, or a way to crop the image to the area's border?
Either that, or does someone know a way to output from MapInfo in such a way to make this possible? (Granted, it's a long shot, but you can't blame a guy for trying...)

The problem arises when wanting to alter the ‘210’ by introducing a string variable, say
PrintRange = "$B$1:$D$" & UpperLimit
where ‘UpperLimit’ is the top row to be included in the print area.
Using Excel 2010.
I am building a dashboard and would like to maximize the print area so everything fits on 1 sheet 8 1/2 x 11 landscape.
My settings at this point:
Margins:
Top 0.25
Right 0.25
Bottom: 0.25
Left 0.25
Row Height 7.5
Column Width 1.29
Seems small, I know but as I develop charts, titles, infographics, etc... I will merge rows and columns as needed so as to leave just enough white space for clarity while packing critical information into 1 sheet.
My problem - as I keep playing with maximimizing number of columns and rows Excel keeps scaling. Is there a way to calculate the correct number of rows and columns to maximize the available space?
I have a technician who sits a desk over, has the same brand of computer running the same Windows 7 and the same Excel 2010, but when he opens a particular file the page layout or print area seems to change so that the sheet is partially cut off. All his options appear the same. I can open this file on other computers and it seems to be fine...
I notice that the Margins under Custom Margins are different and this would explain the problem but not why it occurs. It's a file I created and saved and he opened. Why would the margins change? Is this one of the Microsoft cross platform / program deals where if he changes the print set-up or page layout in WORD for example, it changes them in EXCEL?
I would like to send a Excel printing area to a mail recipient by using a macro that:
2) Save the printing area as a pdf - file - use a temporary filename
1) Opens MS Outlook mail
3) Attach the temp-file to the mail
When I return to a sheet by clicking on the tab of the sheet, the sheet is not immediately visible. When the sheet does become visible a cell has a black flashing background. View 7 Replies View RelatedI just converted from Excel 2003 to 2007 and print previewed a worksheet and find a tiny image with a small portion of the print area. When I look at the sheet in page break preview mode, I see the 8.5 x 11 sheet broken up into approx 77 smaller sheets. When I try to move the page breaks to include the whole sheet it states the change cannot be made as it will result in an image less than 10%. I have attached two images - the first shows the print preview I get, and the second show the multiple pages when I view in page break.

My problem is: I would like to use Auto axis because my layout would be better but bacground picture remains the same and it's useless. Background picture should change as I change filters.

how to correct the tiling of a picture set as a background on a worksheet? It would appear to start tiling at b2 rather than a1. the bottom of the picture starts on row 1 and the top of the picture then begins row 2. also column a shows the far right side of the picture and column b shows the start of the left side.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy spreadsheet looks normal and I've been using it for months. Today some of the text characters print out as boxes with a question mark. I tried another spreadsheet with the same result. I reset the printer and re-booted my pc with no luck. I did try the Q&A and used =CODE(MID(A1,1,1)) which resulted in 68. But I don't know what to do next.
By the way, the spreadsheet does not show the question marks, only the print out.
with creating vb code that will select certain rows in a spreadsheet, set the print area to those rows and print them out, and then reset the print area back to default.
The data is all on one sheet, but is split into 5 different areas, each below the next, with the column headers at the top of each.
e.g.
header_____header_____header
data_______data_______data

data_______data_______data
header_____header_____header
data_______data_______data
data_______data_______data
data_______data_______data
and so on. At the press of a button it'll set the print area to the first section and print (the section includes the headers as well as the data). Then at the press of another button it'll set the print area to the next section. There could be any amount of rows of data in each section so it needs to cope with that.
I have a WYSIWYG problem: what I see on the screen is NOT what I get out of the print job.
I commonly have the problem when working with Excel objects (any kind of shape, text box, line, graph) in that the layout looks great on the tab that I created, but when I go into PrintPreview or actually print it out, the shapes don't quite align with what I had built in the tab. Where I thought I had lines joining, the print out shows them crossing at other points. If I then go back to the tab and look at the layout on the regular screen, it looks fine.
This problem can be easily understood if you try to create a triangle by drawing three lines (non-overlapping lines that cross only at the vertices). Note that the lines either prematurely cross, or don't intersect at all when you print it out.
THis problem is even magnified when using the camera function to take a "snapshot" of a graph or other objects. In fact, it has the tendency to even "mess up" the graph's formatting, regarding the arrangement of titles and axes (often making them overlap).
I have a before print event that shows a userform - the user can then select which worksheets they want printed and select a command button. I then have a loop set up that loops through the selected workbooks and prints them. The problem is I am not sure how to tell VBA to print without it going back to the Before Print event userform.

And I guess double clicking it again would make it return to its original (smaller) size.
