I need to extract a set of 5 numbers from a string of characters. The number set I need is always 5 digits long, always starts with a 1, and always begins after a period. But the number I need can occur in different parts of the string:

In each example below I would want to extract only the 10572 portion.

5194003.10572.N
5194003.10572.R
5194003.1.0010785.10572
7500008.N.5999900.10572

Additionally (if possible) if the cell is blank I don't want anything to show up, and if the string begins with a letter then I don't want anything to show up either.

Extract 7-digit Number From A Mixed String

I am trying to extract a 7-consecutive-digit number from a mixed string (letters and numbers). The only condition is that the number has to start with a "7" or "6" and be exactly 7 consecutive numbers long. My function only evaluates for one and one within the other but not both. It's faulted because it only looks for the occurrance of "6". rCell is the string range.

If / Then In A Macro - Changing 2 Digit Year Into 4 Digit Year

I need a macro where I can highlight a column and change all of the 2 digit years to a 4 digit year (actually, some of the 2 digit years are only 1 digit, e.g. "9" instead of "09").

I have an if then statement that I can use in the column after it, but I'd rather change the actual numbers in the original column, rather than adding another column (and having to keep the original, too).

The statement I had was:
=if(A1>=50,1900+A1,2000+A1)

I just copy dragged down to get the cell numbers for the rest of the column... but using A1 was just for an example, here, it's not necessarily going to be in that column. It needs to be just whichever cells I select.

It seems like it should be pretty simple, but I don't know how to word it in a macro.

Converting 2 Digit Year Into 4 Digit Year

I have 2 digit years (98, 99, 00, 01) that I need to convert to 4 digit years (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001). There is one year per cell. If it was simply a matter of adding 19 or 20 to the beginning of each, I could do that. But since there's a combination of both 19 and 20 that needs to be added and there all intermingled, I'm not sure how to do it.

Can a rule be written to add 19 to the beginning except if the current cell starts with a 0, then add 20? The highest year is 2008 (no 2010 to deal with).

Example:

98 --> 1998
99 --> 1999
00 --> 2000
01 --> 2001

Two Digit Year Changes On Import

I am importing data from a .csv file. The file contains dates like 02/15/40. The year is 2040, not 1940. Excel doesn't seem to use the Control Panel -> Regional Settings change when I open this file. I have my Regional Settings set to 2000 => 2099 to change to a two digit year. If I open a blank worksheet and type in 2/15/40 in a cell...Excel does the correct conversion to 2040. However, when I open a .csv file it considers it 1940.

This is my code. It is for checking that only a 4 digit fiscal year is entered in a cell. The code works fine except it only checks a max of three time. So if the user enters xxx it will prompt for a correct response three times, if xxx is entere a 4th time then that value appears in the cell. I was wondering why this is taking place.

given the number set how many times does the number 5 show up in the 4th digit. I know its 3 but for the data size I need to run it on, it is impossible to count.

I am working with data where I need to extract a 10-digit number from a string. Where the 10-digit number is in the string varies, so I can't use a simple left/len combination. Here's an example below:

Something and email@me.com 1234567890 stuff thingsThe formula I am using now is this:

=MID(F4,MIN(FIND({0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9},F4&"0123456789")),10)

This finds the first number in a string and returns that number and the next 9 digits for a total of a 10-digit string (so it would return 1234567890). However, I run into an issue when I have a string that has numbers in the email address.

So this:

number in email123@me.com 1234567890 exampleWould return this:

123@me.comIs there a way to modify the formula above so that it searches for 10 consecutive numbers and not just the first number in a string?

I have a macro which will import data to the worksheet, then perform some formatting on the data, then assign the month & job description based on the lookup table. The problem is that when I import in the data, the data in column B&C will be store as text instead of number and the date in column E will store a 2 digit year instead on 4 digit year which cause error to my macro. I have try to preset the column format to number, i even try to change the column format to number when i run the format macro data. But the problem is still there.

I can't use the "" sign as delimiter to separate them into different columns because the age,city,name and height fields are in random positions on different cells.The good thing is person's name will always come after "name" string, age is alwals followed by "age" string, so it cannot be like nameheight40Michigan180

I think the following would be the easiest method(not for me tho).If on B1 I had a formula that said "find the string "name" and write anything after it until you reach the next "" character".On C1 field I could have a formula "find the string "age" and write anything after it until you reach the next "" character.On D1 I would have the same for "height" string,then on E1 for city string.

I need to do an if then statement that takes the date (which is in the form of "3/31/2009" and only use the "3/31" info. Only its slightly more complicated than that, its a formula that links to another program. Basically, the current quarter end date is "curdate()" so if i want a cell to show that, i enter "=curdate()" and i would like to build an if then statement using that date but only using the month/date combo (only possibly dates are 3/31, 6/30, 9/30, 12/31) so I guess I could even use just the month, the problem would be to extract that information in a formula and build the if then statement around it.

So:
if its 3/31, show 1
if its 6/30, show 2
if its 9/30, show 3
if its 12/31, show 4

I have a string (as below - Call them A1:A4) which I would like to seperate into 4 columns (Call them B1:E4).

I have successfully seperated the first part using MID (It's always 5 digits) but the second part has a varing length which then impacts on the third and fourth parts of the string.... Any ideas?

To add to this I am using the POCKET PC version of Excel which does not have all functions so at the moment I am limited to which functions I can use (Can you add functions to the PPC?).

I need to be able extract a string from within a longer string. The information I want will always start 5 chracters in and be bordered by an underscore either side, but could be of any length. For example in the following string, I would want to extract WF602.

DDR_WF602_____02_00_001_FLANGE_WR34_4_HOLE_PLAIN_CLEARANCE

I've been looking at the RegExp functions but can envisage problems with this as later parts of the string (WR34) have the same form as the part I need.
