Extract Multiple Fixed Format Words From String?
Jun 23, 2014I need to extract all instances of words that have format xnnnnnn, where x is an alpha character (letter of alphabet, to be precise) and nnnnnn are numbers. The words could something like u435586. The problem is I do not know how many instances of these words are in the string. The entire string is contained in a cell. A sample string could be something like:
SMNTv922970;#1283;#SMNT 433925;#1284;#SQRS 003417;#1285;#SQRSp047683;#1286;#SMNT 6132451;#1287;#SQRSw3145627;#1288
and the end result should be
v922970 t433925 t003417 p047683 t6132451 w3145627
The words are preceded by the character "" which might facilitate the search.
Extract Date Only From String
Jul 2, 2010What I want to do is extract the date only from a string of text in a cell and put it in the cell next to it. The date is not alway in the same position within the text string and although similiar, the text string can differ. There are around 6000 lines in the sheet, I've pasted 4 as an example below.

1) say 01/01/2010 displays as Jan-10 and i need a new column to state it as JAN. What function should i use to achieve it?
2) i need to state the difference between first day and last day of the month. What function should i use to achieve it?

Extract Date From Long String?
May 15, 2012I've got a string of text (that can vary in length) and contains a date (could be any month)..
I'm trying to extract the date from the string using VBA.
For example, the string may be:
"The following price of the service is effective until July 1, 2012 and may change whenever"
I need to first determine if the string has a date in it and then extract the date....
I did a search on mrexcel.com and found the following formula that will tell me if the text has a date (returns true/false)...however, i'm not sure how to use this in VBA nor how to find location of date....

B1 contains the text, N1:N12 contain the name of the months....

Oct 19, 2012I have a spread sheet with a date colume that reads: 2012-06-27-19 I need to have this read like 06/27/2012 but nothing I do is working I have tried to go to the formatting process and backing the hr:mm out and that doesn't work. I really don't want to go line by line to manually correct this issue.. HENCE ... over 2000 lines
Second question: If I have a column that reads 02/15/2012 and another column that reads 3/27/2012 how to a format a 3rd column to make it read total number of days between 1st date and 2nd date?

I need another column, with just the month specified there based on above dates, so that I can manipulate the complete sheet further using a pivot. Some formatting issue isn't allowing me to use month() function, to derive the month of the date mentioned in the cell.
Using Auto-filter is too tedious, since I'd have to do it 12 times to cover each of the month. Tried recording a macro, but that too isn't supporting much, since it gets specific to cells and hence isn't re-usable in another sheet with similar data.
How can I automate the task of extracting just the month from the above column?

I can't use the "" sign as delimiter to separate them into different columns because the age,city,name and height fields are in random positions on different cells.The good thing is person's name will always come after "name" string, age is alwals followed by "age" string, so it cannot be like nameheight40Michigan180
I think the following would be the easiest method(not for me tho).If on B1 I had a formula that said "find the string "name" and write anything after it until you reach the next "" character".On C1 field I could have a formula "find the string "age" and write anything after it until you reach the next "" character.On D1 I would have the same for "height" string,then on E1 for city string.

Sep 7, 2009I have a string (as below - Call them A1:A4) which I would like to seperate into 4 columns (Call them B1:E4).
I have successfully seperated the first part using MID (It's always 5 digits) but the second part has a varing length which then impacts on the third and fourth parts of the string.... Any ideas?

Dec 10, 2007I need to be able extract a string from within a longer string. The information I want will always start 5 chracters in and be bordered by an underscore either side, but could be of any length. For example in the following string, I would want to extract WF602.
DDR_WF602_____02_00_001_FLANGE_WR34_4_HOLE_PLAIN_CLEARANCE
I've been looking at the RegExp functions but can envisage problems with this as later parts of the string (WR34) have the same form as the part I need.
