Formatting Rows With Common ID Numbers?
Oct 23, 2013
I have almost 300-400 records of such data which needs formatting. There are n number of IDs in the first column & corresponding data in columns 2 & 3.
For those rows which have identical ID numbers, I need to fill those rows with some unique shade of color. If you look at the next sheet, I have manually colored the rows & that is my desired outcome. The shade of color does not matter. It just needs to be unique for each ID.

I work for a charity and I have to cancel the donations of people whose credit card donations have been declined in three consecutive months.
If in Column A I have a list of donor IDs whose credit cards were declined in Jan 2008, in Column B I have a list of donor IDs whose credit cards were declined in Feb 2008 and in Column C I have a list of donor IDs whose credit cards were declined in Mar 2008, is there a way of showing in a fourth column which donor IDs were common (repeated) in Columns A, B and C? I would have a title for each column in A1, B1 and C1, and also the column where the repeated donor IDs would be displayed.

I have a large block of numbers in a spreadsheet and I am wondering how I can look at the whole block and pull out the top five most common numbers. So perhaps the number 4 is repeated the most times, it would be number 1, number 18 might be repeated the second most number of times so it would be in the number 2 slot etc etc.

What i am trying to do is to to determine the common material that is
used among different model do product in a product family. I have the
column C the various part number for the product family. Each product
model is made up of different combination of the parts.
In I3:U3 i have the model number for each product. Under each are the
combination of various part that make up each model. What i need to do
is in column G conditional formatiing that if all the different model
use a particular part (part number). The respective cell in column in
the row will be color. This will help me to determine what are the
parts that are common to all the product.
Column C Column G Column I .........................Column U
Part no Common Product 1 Product 2 Product 3 Product 4
12-1234-56 no color 1 4 0 6

I have 300 number groups and each group has 22 different numbers (from 1 to 80).
Can I find the most common 5 or more numbers in these groups by excel, macro or any program?
for example, let us suppose that 4-15-23-36-45 are the most common numbers and these numbers are in 8 groups from 300.

I need to find out common numbers between columns. Each column has multiple number entries seperated by a comma. For example:
Column A: "5592,12222" and Column B: "1,2,3,4,5592,123123" and Column C: "3, 4"
I need to find out any numbers that are found in more than 1 column. Hence, the result should be something like "3,4,5592". If no match is found then maybe can indicate by coloring the cell. My data is over 50,000 rows and 30 columns. I need to do this for each row one by one.

I am currently trying to automate some excells workbooks that my company uses. The one i'm working on is a listing of all the change orders we have. Unfortunatly there are roughly a 1000 rows, each containing the information for the change- change #, Date opened, part numbers, change description, status, date closed.
Order 0001 - 10/22/08 - 0156, 7251, 9901 - delete bag - closed - [blank] -
Order 0002 - 10/22/08 - 0018, 0612, 0875 - add notes - open - [blank] -
What I want to do is type a part number in, it checks to see if there are any rows that already have that number and have an open status (as apposed to closed) and then tells me where the conflict is. so in the above example if I typed in 0612 it would tell me that number is already in use. I am using excel 2003 if that makes any difference.

I am looking to find the top 5 most common/repeated numbers within this range. I have found a formula to work out the largest number within the range:
=MAX(IFERROR(0+TRIM(MID(SUBSTITUTE(";"&B3,";",REPT(" ",LEN(B3))),(ROW(A$1:A$200)*LEN(B3))-1,LEN(B3))),0)) (REF http://www.excelforum.com/excel-gene...e-numbers.html)
How to modify it to work with e.g. the mode function.
I know I could separate all the numbers out using 'text to columns' but I will need to work this out regularly on large quantities of data ...

this is in reference to a question I asked some time ago in which I was given the following: =IF( COUNTIF(SHEET1!$A$1:$A$1200,SHEET2!A1),SHEET2!A1,"")
To summize as this is not quite working, I have two worksheets and in Column A are id#s. Worksheet 1 has100's more rows of data than Worksheet 2. I need to find the unique ids from column A in Worksheet 1 that match Unique IDs in worksheet 2.
I need to copy the row of cells from worksheet 1 where the unique id equals that u.id in worksheet 2. That row needs to be copied to Sheet 2 that has the same unique id, and after the pre-existing cells which are already present.
So for instance: if Sheet1 A100 = Sheet2 A24, then copy row A100from Sheet 1 and paste it to Row A24 of SHeet 2 start with the first empty cell- just say Sheet2 G24 as an example.
Using the formula I was given before, it finds matches, but the pasted rows are off. If the match occurs with Sheet 1 A450 and Sheet 2 A36, it will copy the value from ROW/SHeet 1 A36 instead of ROW/Sheet 1 A450

I have 2 spreadsheets of names (~2500 and ~1800) and a bunch of corresponding data continuing down the row. both are structured this same way:
Example:
Row1: LAST, FIRST, data1, data2, data3, etc...
is there a formula which can "check" the larger sheet for duplicate names (a row with exactly the same FIRST and LAST), and then either:
1) delete these rows from the smaller sheet
2) clear the contents of those rows
3) or at least flag them in some way so I can quickly delete them
it would be quite a task to eyeball and remove these rows one-by-one, so i'm wondering if a formula could somehow do it (I don't really know anything about visual basic)
One other piece of information which might be important:
For these rows containing duplicate first & last names between the 2 sheets, the entire row is not a duplicate entry; only the names will match (columns A & B)... The other columns down the row will have different values between sheet1 & sheet2. Not sure if this changes anything....

Is it possible to remove the formatting to just read as a full number e.g 0111123456? I have loads to do and the thought of doing it manually is painful!

is there a way to have the number formatting in Text() variable? For instance, I want to reference a cell that can change between $1.00 and $10,000,000.00.
Let's say that in A3, the number turns out to be $10,000.00.
When I put in text(a3,"$0.00") it spits out $10000.00. But if I go the other route and go text(a3,"$000,000,000) it displays "$000,010,000.00".

I'm viewing some financial data that needs formatting. I select the appropriate cells and format the corresponding values accordingly:
Right click / Format Cells / Number -> Decimal places:2 -> (check) Use 1000 Separator(,)
It's easier to read the sums and averages (at the bottom-right of the excel window) when the above described formatting is used.
But is it possible, and easily do-able, to have the zeroes show as 0 and not 0.00?

I am using the following format code for the y axis of a line chart. I am shortening the axis to show 3M or 500K instead of $3,000,000 or $500,000. I can't get it to work with negative numbers, I get the full $3,000,000. Somewhere I read you can only do 3 formats in a formula. Is there a way to include negative numbers using this formatting?

I am currently using the following format to display numbers in my excel.
_(* #,###,###_);_(* (#,###,###);_(* "-"_);@
The brackets and underscores are used so that the positive and negative numbers align with overhanging brackets.
I want to modify the format such that it is able to display decimals where ever applicable.
For example
1,000 display as 1,000
0 display as a dash "-"
1.265 display as 1.265
-0.51 display as (0.51)
I tried changing it to:
_(* #,###,###.###_);_(* (#,###,###.###);_(* "-"_);@
However it added a "." to all positive and negative numbers regardless of whether there were decimals after it.
e.g.
10 displayed as 10.
-30 displayed as (30.)
In otherwords - I am trying to find the "general" format and modify it to include brackets for negative number, and also modify it so that the positive numbers aligning with the negative numbers with the ) over hanging.

I'm designing a spreadsheet for our department which tracks a students progress throughout their time at the school. There are 4 levelsStatementSchool Action PlusSchool ActionMonitorIn year 7, they may come into our school at Monitor level, but when they get to year 8 they may have moved to Action Plus. I want to highlight that change on my spreadsheet with conditional formatting if possible so if they go up, the cell will turn red, if they move down the list the cell will turn green.
I've created two columns on an options sheet (which holds all my data validation lists) and assigned a number to each of the levels so i can conditionally format my columns using < and > but I don't know how to write the lookup formula

I have tried everything i can think of but have had no luck. I attached my workbook so you can see how it works.
