Formula For 2 Low Net & 1 Low Gross Score In A 5 Man Golf Team
May 25, 2008
I am using Excel 2002 in Xp and also want to use the spreadsheet on my Pocket PC using Pocket Excel.
I have a column of 10 numbers with rows 1,3,5,7 & 9 representing the individual gross scores of the 5 team members. Rows 2,4,6,8 & 10 have either a 0 or -1 (calculated) in them representing the strokes (or discount) the player receives for that hole. So the net scores for each player will be row 1 + row 2 and so on.
I need a formula that will calculate the total of the 2 lowest net scores and 1 low gross score with the score for each player only being used once which will then represent the team score for that hole.
A sample column would have 4,0,3,0,4,0,3,0,5,-1 in it.
I am organizing a golf scoreboard for my golf tournaments. Basically, this is what I want to do:
I would like to rank the players that are entered by their score, in ascending order. Basically, I want to take the column for "total strokes" and organize the numbers so that it will rank the numbers that are entered. If there are no numbers entered in a specific row, I don't want that "zero" to be ranked in the list. So for example, if I have five golfers but they are spread out over 10 rows, I would still need to have five numbers in the rank: 1,2,3,4, and 5, not 1 to 10, as if it were ranking the rows that have nothing entered in them.
I run a golf society and need to set up a golf aggregate sheet that will allow me to enter the players weekly scores and the sheet will then look for the lowest score entered for each player and replace it with their score of this week.
Golfers have a numeric handicap based upon their proven ability (reported scores); the lower the handicap, the better the golfer.
My golf group is randomly drawn into handicap-balanced foursomes. If 24 guys are playing, six teams are created as follows:
1) The six players with the lowest golf handicaps are "Captains," and are randomly drawn.
2) After the Captains are drawn, the six players with the next lowest handicaps are then randomly drawn as the #2 players for each team.
3) The same process is followed to randomly determine the #3 player and #4 player for each team.
If the number of players is not divisible by four, some threesomes are then created, and one, two or three players are then on two teams. e.g., If we have 29 players, we draw 5 foursomes (20 players) and 3 threesomes (9 players). In this event, each threesome will use the scores of a randomly drawn player (Ghost) from one of the five foursomes.
(Each Threesome's "Ghost" player should be drawn from the group [captains, #2's, #3's, #4's] which will best round-out and handicap-balance the team.)
I want to see if i can make a formula that works out how a player got a score based on a scoring system. See the attached file for more details. I want this to show that the player scored or didn't score, played a full match or was a substitute, was booked or wasn't booked and was sent off or wasn't sent off.
So I can easily put together a formula that maintains a consistent markup price across varying costs. Is there a formula that will give me a consistent gross margin % as I drag down a series of costs?
So if the cost is 158 a 42% mark up would be 224.36 but the Gross Margin % is only 29.58. I want to be able to hit a 42% mark up across the board.
I currently have a sheet of data with names and scores (1-10) on e.g.
NameScoreJohn10Smith5Steve4John9
and what i am wanting is a formula that will read these columns and tell me the amount of 1's, 2's, 3's, 4's, 5's, 6's, 7's, 8's, 9's and 10's the corosponding name has gotten.
for example:
JohnSmithSteve123415167891101
I have been playing around with COUNTIF formulas but cannot seem to work this out.
I'm helping out a community that puts out a role playing game by making a character sheet for their gaming system. It's normally a pen-and-paper type affair, but a few people have reached out to me and asked me to make it. Now, one thing that I really thought would be nifty would be to make it persistent. I know of the Excel basics, creating basic formulas and the such, but this is where I hit a brick wall.
For the character sheet, they normally have basic attributes on a 1-20 scale. These attributes are accomanied by a bonus. The only thing is those, while these bonuses go across a linear path (For attribute 1, it's -30, for 2 its -20, for 3 its -10, for 4 its -5 for 5 its 0....), I cant seem to figure out how to create some kind of If/Then formula for it....
Heres my example:
Brad makes a character that has a score of 9 for one of his attributes. The bonus given to someone with a 9 is a +10. What I'm looking to do is create a table that sees that 'If (c9)=9, Then (d9)=+10'...
And my second related issue...
Is there any possible way to do the above mentioned formula in relation to a drop down selection bar? It's the same thing here; To break it down simply, It would be excellent if there was a way for it to say If (a10)=Warrior, then (c10)= +10.
I have a paper-based scoring sheet that we use to determine a rating category. I cannot figure out how to convert this scoring sheet into a lookup region and use some type of LOOKUP formula to determine the rating. I have looked at the various Grading examples on the Internet that show you how to look up a grade, based on a score, but they only look up a grade, based on a single input (the score).
Here I have two values going in--the person's age and their score, and I need to look up the rating, which is the column heading.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I've attached a sample spreadsheet which shows the original scoring sheet.
I'm creating a Speech and Debate calculater that presents winners names by place according to their score. If you look at Tab HSSE Results it will read the inputed information from HS Speech English. I want the names of the students to appear in the correct ranking order in the respected grade rankings chart. I currently have a countif formula which reads the grade, but I think I need to link that with an index formula which I'm having problems with.
I have a table of data where each row is a person, and each column is a group that person might belong to. In the intersecting cell of a person row and group column is text showing what position they hold in that group (eg Director, Head, member etc). In many cases the cell is empty because the person is not involved with the group.
There are then two lookup tables which have scores; one for the group name and one for the position type. The group name is always the column header. I have used these lookup tables as I would like the scores for each group or position to be easily adjustable.
Probably best that I just attach an example. I tried to solve this using SUMPRODUCT. VLOOKUP on the two lookup tables would have been good but it seems it doesn't work with arrays the way I expected. My attempt (which doesn't work obviously!) is given.
how can i make a worksheet/formula that automatically look for the equivalent score in a given transmutation table.
example: i have an exam of 10 items, what will be my formula to so that it will automatically look for the equivalent score under the transmutation table of 10 items
I have created a spreadsheet to work out deductions from gross weekly pay to give a net amount. I would like to be able to get from a net amount back to a gross amount but am unsure of how to do this.
Deductions are tax and national insurance. A person has a tax code for example 885 meaning they can earn up to 8850 a year before being taxed of 8850/52 a week so anything after 8850 is taxable. There are two tax rates (10% )and (18%). The band for 10% is 10500 per year or 10500/52=201.92 a week. This means any taxable pay above 201.92 is taxable at 18%.
To work out National insurance deductions for an employee, weekly gross amount- 100 x 10% giving the National insurance to be deducted. So Gross - Tax - National Insurance = Net amount.
Attached is a spreadsheet I created to work it out. Firstly does this look okay? Secondly is it possible to get back to the gross amount given ONLY a net amount and a tax code?
I've got a list of companies and what I need to do is find a way of showing the top five in order. I've found a way of showing the top five gross profits but I can't find a way of also showing which company this corresponds to as some of the values apply to more than one. Ideally I would like to do it with a formula or two.
I'm trying to calculate a weighted average gross margin but am having difficulty because I've instances of positive cost of sales and negative revenue. On a line by line basis I've had no problems calculating the margin but when it comes to calculating the weighted average margin as a whole I come unstuck. Looking at the data below (A1:D14) you can see that the margin should be somewhere between 90-99%.

In Australia we calculate Insurance Premiums usually being a Base Premium, Plus Stamp Duty, Plus Fire Service Levy (FSL) Plus Goods & Services Tax (GST) - there is no GST on Stamp Duty, however Stamp Duty is calculated on the total of Base Premium (+ GST) Plus FSL (+ GST).
See below: NET TO GROSS i.e. Base plus FSL, plus GST, plus Stamp Duty. Base PremiumUnderwriter provides Key in blue box onlyBase785.68 StateSA TypeMotor FSL0% 0 GST10% 78.57 Stamp11% 95.07 The total premiums is Total Premium959.32
We want the following formula/calculation to be able to just load a Gross/Total Premium figure and have excel calculate the base premium i.e. Total premium - Stamp Duty - GST - FSL GROSS TO net
Total Premium Key in Total Premium00 Stamp duty $- 11% GST $- 10% FSL $- 0% The base premium isBase0.00.0.00
Formulae must allow for changes in % rates above (i.e. 11% stamp duty and 0% FSL may be different in each state and a potential change in the GSTrate) as these differ from each state and we need to show the actual amount of each component i.e. Stamp Duty, GST and FSL in the calculation.
Fire Services Levy (FSL) is calculated on a Base Premium plus GST (10%) - FSL varies from State to State, so we need to be able to input the relevant State % rate, GST is calculated on Base Premium (ex GST) plus FSL (ex GST), Stamp Duty is calculated upon Base Premium (plus GST), FSL (plus GST),
provide the respective formulae so that we can do this calculation ourselves using different rates and Total Premium figures.
It is Gross Profit in Dollars and % for a particular project. Each row is a contract Item. The Overall Gross Profit for the month in dollars is 34,114.86 In preparing a short commentary to discuss this 34,114.86 I need to discuss atleast some contract items. If there were no negative results I have often in the past simply written. The top 5contributors to this Gross Profit were contract items 1 -6, out of 42, delivering 80% of the result. I might also go into what actually those contract items were and why they presented such a decent Gross Margin, ie. Costs came in well under budget(estimate). But with negative results, the bottom 4 contract items represent a large dollar loss of-34k which is 100% basically of the Gross Profit itself. If these had even just broken even we would have a GP double the current amount. So they obviously deserve as much comment.
Q1 In excel orsimilarly in say Crystal Reports what is a good way of further sorting these 42records either in a table or chart, whereby say the top 80% contract items that had a major impact on the gross profit are shown and the rest hidden. Ie. All thelittle sub 1000 or sub -1000 amounts.
Q2 How wouldother people here write a commentary on this data set? Can you script something to illustrate?
i use it to arrange players for every hole during golf tournaments. The present sheet (that i have attached) will allow as few as 2 players per hole. i have been informed that it should not assign less than 3 players per hole. the math in the code needs to be adjusted so that it knows to always start with 3 somes and work up from there. i can do the math on a sheet of paper i just don't know how to code the math . the attached sheet is what a member on the forum previously did for me. i take no credit for it, i am not capable doing what this sheet does for me.
Not sure if this is do-able but I figured I would try. For a golf league coming up later this year I want to figure out how many Birdies, Pars, Bogies, Dbl. Bogies and Others each (20) golfers have during the season. After each round I would input their scores and I am looking for a program that would look at the score of the hole and the par for the hole and figure out what they got 1 under par = birdie, even par = par, 1 over = bogie, 2 over = dbl bogie and 3 over = other.
I started by creating a simple if statement but it ran out too long and my other issue is adding up the number of birdies, pars..etc for each round. Meaning a golfer can have bogies on hole #1 and #2 and the if statement can take care of that but how would get a total saying the golfer had 2 bogies.
I would do this each week and total the number of each to keep a running total at the bottom of each column. We play on the same course each week so the pars for each hole can be hard coded.
I run a spreadsheet that manages golf tournaments. i have to group the # of players evenly as possible on each hole once they are entered into the tournament. since the number of players varies from tournament to tournament the math gets complicated trying to get the groupings right. i can do the math on paper but do not know how to code the math in a macro. this would save me a ton of time if someone can figure this out. i have attached a sample .xls that includes all the info i could think of a person needs to see what is going on. If i am asking to much i understand and will remove the thread.
I am trying to compute the handicap for a golf group. We base our handicaps on the lowest 4 of your most recent 5 rounds. I have no problem selecting the 4 lowest of 5 using the SMALL function. My problem is have the formula select only the most recent 5 rounds. Because everyone doesn't play every day the five most recent scores might be over several weeks and the others might be in the last week.
I am only entering the adjusted score (not hole by hole). The header columns have the date played.
The formula currently shows =SUM(SMALL($F9:$J9,{1,2,3,4}))/4.
I have been putting together workbook for my golf analysis.
Against each hole (1-18) I enter in one row which club I used from the tee which could be any of the following: D,3w,5w,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,w,s.
I also have a row that says whether I have hit the fiarway or not. If hit fairway = 1 if missed = 0.
What I want to be able to do is show the % of times I hit the fairway with each club. This would seem ida for the if function but I'm not quite sure how it would work because the result row is going to need to look at every hole to see if the club used was d,5w,3 etc etc and 'if' so then it will need to look at the row which says 'hit fairway or not' i.e. 1 or 0. This is where I get lost and am not sure if I do need the 'if' function or something else? Perhaps I need additional rows?
I couldn't find a solution to where I'm at now, but Derks formula... = SUMIF($J$5:$J$44,J5,$K$5:$K$44)/COUNTIF($J$5:$J$44,J5)
from... excel formula
...Almost gets what I need, but my data will not always be in a high/low descending order. I'm braindead; I can't think of how to make this formula work.
I am creating a workbook to manage golfer scores, teams, winnings, handicap, ect. I am having trouble with the statistics sheet. I Need A Sub To:
1. Column "B" , take the average of the lowest 5 numbers in columns "AB" though "AU"
2. Column "C" , take the average of the lowest 10 numbers in columns "G" through "Z" divided by 0.96
3. Column "D" , take the average of the lowest 10 numbers in columns "AW" through "BP"
this needs to happen for each row where there is a name. (names added daily)
I have included a similar sheet as the one i am working with along with some command buttons typically not included. Should show some of the problems I am having.
I am building a golf spread sheet with page 1 being where I will input scores, also on this page I have a drop down list with the 9 golf course names. What I have done is I have added 9 sheets with the names of each golf course, on this sheet I have added the scorecard. So what i am wanting to do is, on sheet 1 use a drop list with the name of the course, then choose what tees we are using and let it populate on sheet1 hole 1 thru 18, with the yardage and par for the hole.
Just starting to use excel and have a problem I hope someone can solve. Trying to set up handicap system for golf league. Column A is players. Column B shows average of last 5 rounds played and rounded to nearest whole number. column C shows the same without rounding. column D and beyond show scores with column D being the most recent. Have this all this working well with one problem. Each week I insert new column D, enter scores, and everything is recalculated. How do I deal with absent players? Is there a way to enter perhaps "A" for absent and excel will know to count the last 5 cells with numerical values only?
I would like to set up a Excel spreadsheet for golf handicaps where it will use the 4 lowest scores of the last 5 entries. It must be able to work even if there are missed entries (someone didn't show up/blanks ignored). I would like it to work if there are only three scores used at the beginning of the season, but when there are 5 or more scores, use only the 4 lowest scores out of the last 5. I want it to average these scores. The scores would start in column d. The following is an example of scores with an underscore being a blank:
