Hiding Answer To Formula If One Cell Is Empty
Nov 5, 2009
Is there a way to have the answer to a formula display nothing if one of the cells have nothing. Example cell A3= A1*A2 ... it will naturally show 0.00 but even if both A1 and A2 are completely blank. Is it possible for A3 to show nothing if A1 or A2 or both contain nothing. I still want it to show 0.00 but only if that’s what is in the other cells.

Is a Cell with a formula (like shown below) considered true, or is it empty?
=IF(Scorecard!$B$13,Scorecard!$AD$4,"")
If Scorecard!$B$13 was False...
Would a cell with the above formula be considered?
True or Empty?
If Scorecard!$B$13 was True...
A cell with the above formula would be True.

I was wondering what would be the best way to go about hiding either rows or columns based on whether a particular cell is empty or not. The reason being, I want a graph and table to only display data when present.

How do I go about hiding empty rows in a separate linked sheet? To be more precise, I'm working on 2 sheets now. Sheet 1 would be the input sheet and sheet 2, the output sheet. For instance, there are 10 rows of data in Sheet 1, but out of this 10 rows, I planted data only into 4 rows. How do I ensure that Sheet 2 hides the empty rows (5th - 10th)?

automatically hiding empty rows on my table... though the table has been referenced via string of formulas which I added up on my worksheet.. Some of the rows on my table are empty and I tried a VBA code on automatically deleting the rows but then I realized that if that certain 'referenced' string of that cell is not empty anymore, that would cause me much trouble.. so basically I need a code that would automatically hide the rows that displays a result of "" and unhides when it is not empty.

I am trying to hide columns in a range, "P8:ET1087" but it isn't working. After I autofilter a value, every row will be hidden except for the rows where the value is found. This is always 6 rows, won't be more or less.
The 6 cells in every column are the same and contain from 1 to 6:
Text
Text
Date
Number
Text
Date
What I am trying to do is to hide the column if all cells in that column are blank/empty after it's autofiltered. That for the 135 columns, from P to ET.
I was messing around with the following code:
[Code] .....
But it doesn't seem to work.

I created a macro that analyzes some datasets and according to different parameters it puts an X at the side of every cell that goes out of parameters. These Xs are all in columns named the same way for it to be easier to find. What I want to do is to write some macro that will hide every row where the data did not go out of parameters to be able to easily see where it did. In the following example it would need to hide the second row since there are no Xs in that row. One of the problems I'm having is that the amount of columns and rows is variable.
Data
Data
Functional Upset
Data
Data
Functional Upset
#

X

[Code] .......
Below is the piece of code that I created to try to do this (G has the value for the amount of rows). I think it is working but it is either taking too long since it has to sometimes go through over 20k lines as much times as it needs to to cover all the rows that contain Xs or its getting stuck for some reason.
Code:
Worksheets(2).Range("I3:I" & G).EntireRow.Hidden = True
K = 0
Do Until Worksheets(2).Range("I1").Offset(0, K) = ""
If Worksheets(2).Range("I1").Offset(0, K) = "Functional Upset" Then
[Code] ......

I am trying to determine if I can write a formula that will read text in one cell, such as insurance and if true enter the amount from another cell and if false then 0. I have tried a IF statement by add the text to name manager. However, the answer is 0 rather than the amount in the selected cell. I might need to use a different formula or function.

The following formula shoud give an answer of 178. I think I am placing the
parenthesis in the wrong position.
The answer I get is 308669
=(((F22*71449)*0.4)+16147/C22)
Cell-F22 number is 1826
71449 is a constant number
0.4 is a constant number
16147 is a constant number
Cell-C22 is 10.8

I am using this formula for long now
=SUMPRODUCT(('[Diesel Statement.xlsx]Nov 12'!$C$2:$C$251=$H$1)*'[Diesel Statement.xlsx]Nov 12'!$G$2:$G$251)
every month i just add a new sheet and change the month name in the formula to that eg
I changed it to
=SUMPRODUCT(('[Diesel Statement.xlsx]Dec 12'!$C$2:$C$251=$H$1)*'[Diesel Statement.xlsx]Dec 12'!$G$2:$G$251)
but now it is not calculating the answer is coming as #value!.
Then I tried to add up by
=VLOOKUP($H$1,'[Diesel Statement.xlsx]Dec 12'!$C$2:$G$215,5,TRUE)
but it does not add all the entries only one entry is shown.
I want the total of the column G. looking up for values in C = H1 value

I have a formula that is correct all the way up to adding the last *K9. here is an
example:
C9 a number 4 then add 1 to it which makes it 2 now * it by D9 which is the number 384 and the answer is 768 now * that by K9 which is 6 and you get 4608 I'm getting 2310 using this formula... =IF( C9=0, 0, C9+1*D9)*K9.

I am learning how to create functions. All is going well, except when I auto fill for future input, the cells fill will all kinds of N/A or Null stuff etc.. I was trying to figure out how to do an IF statement like in my example below, that when the cell of reference is empty, keep it empty...but it is not working. take a look at it and tell me what I am doing wrong? I am using a grading system example...when a grade is put in, the corresponding letter grade fills, but when no grade value is entered, I want to keep the cells empty.
"=IF(H5="",""=IF(H5>89,"A",H5,IF(H5>79,"B",IF(H5>69,"C",IF(H5>59,"D","F")))))"

Attached worksheet which is an sales incentive plan. I need cell B69 to represent the amount in b68 unless neither b30 or b99 are > 0. In other words if even 1 of the cells b30 or b99 come back positive, you get the amount in b68. If it comes back 0 in both cells b30 and b99, then they get 0.

I have the following letters in cells
D2= A
D3=G
D4 =L
These represent Accomodation,Groceries, and Liquor.
Starting at E12 I want a formula , to drag down the column, which will show either Accomodation, Groceries or Liquor depending on the letter I put in cell D12,
Eventually I will possibly need help to summarise these costs on another sheet with other data such as fuel costs and fuel analysis but this will get me started.

I have a workbook with over 900 worksheets.
The macro I have is looping all sheets looking for empty cells in a specific column, and when it founds an empty cell the value for one cell is copied to the empty cell.
But in one worksheet it stops with the error:
Run-time error '1004'
Application-defined or object-defined error

I want to make the formula: x=SUM(A * e^(-b*d)), wherein A and b are parameters and d the distance.
I've just over 10.000 rows and 15 columns (B4 to P10013) with distances. For each column i give a formula =$S$2*EXP(-$R$2*B4) and extent that for all colums and rows, then I sum all the columns. This works fine, except for the fact that when there is an empty cell the outcome is wrong. Because I set for example A as 10. The answer for that cell is 10, because he sees an empty cell as 0, i guess.
So how do I skip these empty cells?

I have a chart with blank values in some cases. I have set up the chart to show those values as gaps, which relies on the blank cell being empty. However, my blank cells have a formula along the lines of: if (condition, value,"")
So the chart does not consider them blank, presumably either because the formula is in there, or because "" is not the same as blank. How can I make this cell appear blank for the purposes of the chart?

Its probably very simple question, but i can not work it out.
I am trying to design a simple worksheet so I can keep track of how much money my room mate has paid me and what she owes. She pays $142 a week rent plus $23 a month for internet.
Please open the attached workbook. You can see in E7 and 8 there is a red negative number. This is because my tenant hasn't paid me yet for those weeks (D7 & 8).
How can i get these cells to read $0 or leave the cell empty?
The reason why I need this to read $0 or nothing is because it is messing up my next calculation in D3 where it works out how much she has paid for our internet bill.
Thanking you in advance. And sorry if this is a really daft question. Its probably something really simple i have missed.

I have a spreadsheet that is pulled automatically from an access database.
The information that is pulled is invoices that have been paid for each of the temps working for our company.
Each month I have to give a figure per cost code on how much they are accruing so that they can see how much is still outstanding.
Right so what I am trying to do is have a macro take the temps charge rate then * 40 hours and place the amount into the empty cell.
As you will see in the attachement some of the cells are coloured. The purpose of the colouring is show that a invoice has been processed and paid for that week so no value is needed in that cell.
Then total all the cells at the end.

Is it possible to make a cell "really" blank/empty based on an If statement? For instance:
=if(a1>10,a1,"")
Has a value_if_false of "". But Excel interprets this a bit differently than a cell that never had anything typed into it.
So if you have a column full of this formula copied down, and hit <control+down arrow>, you will go straight to the bottom and skip over all rows. Whereas if you have a column with values and empty cells alternating and hit <control+down arrow>, you will only skip the empty cells and go to the next value. Excel treats the conditionally empty cells as if they have a value, when it comes to this type of navigation. This holds even if you copy and paste "Values" for the cells over the formulas.
Is there any way to tell Excel to make the cells truly empty?

I am using a IF(ISNA(Vlookup##,##,##)),"",(Vlookup##,##,##)) function, in order to remove N/A errors.
Is there anyway to convert the "" values to back to an empty cell without anything in it (i.e not text "", but empty as it was originally). I find that the file sizes are very large, when using this function, as data (although blank) is stored in each cell (i know this, because if I use cntr+arrow, it sees it as data, and not an empty area). I don't want to manually go through each cell and delete them as there is quite a bit of data (10000 rows , 2 columns, 30 tabs)

I wrote an IF AND formular to display "Yes" for a cell with zero. but when the cell is also empty, it still returns a "Yes" instead of empty.
this is the formular:
=IF(J2=3,"Yes",IF(AND(E2="",I2=0),"Yes","No"))
when I2 = 0 it returns Yes
Also with I2 = "", it still returns "Yes" instead of "No"
