View 5 RepliesI have not used Inputboxes or Userforms much. I have read through some of the messages here, but I need to learn more about them. I need to create some type of user interface, where the user would be asked to select between two choices. Based on the choice made, a macro would be executed. The two choices run different macros.
I need direction or an example of an Inputbox that shows two choices instead of a blank input space.
I have 2 input boxes. Input Box 1 asks for user's Date of Birth. Input Box 2 asks for user's name: Pretty simple right! They will loop until following 2 conditions are met: If the user enters something in them OR user presses Cancel. If they are empty and Ok is pressed then keep on looping.

I have found a base macro that has most of what I want the only problem is I need it to search column A by the data entered by the user in the inputbox and send out an email if it meets all the requirements. I also need it to be able to be able to do that search by only the first letter of the company name (example, only needing to put in A in the inputbox for Amber Inc.). If I remove the red text the macro works perfectly but just runs down the list on the spreadsheet.
Column A has company names, Column B has email address' and Column C has the company contacts first name.

i need an inputbox to appear asking the user to enter an amount(we'll call XX).
Now the code will find that value in Column F, and delete the row that contains the value XX in F
Im trying to add value to a data validation list using the guide at [url]
The only issue I have with it is that my validation list is in another sheet, and I can't get the code ti work with the changes suggested in the comments at that site.
Below, both inputbox cases appear to work fine. If you enter an incorrect input on your first attempt it will offer you the option to return you to an inputbox.

I have attached a sheet that I'm having an issue with. Columns D and E on the Dim Calculator sheet have a data validation formula in the cell. It works in the sense that it pops up if they are outside the parameters that I want them to hit. However, if the user clicks the Cancel button they can just keep going on even though the entry in the cell is aganist the validation.
Example: Columns D and E cannot be larger than Column C. Currently now if Columns D or E are larger than Column C the validation error pops up. But I can just click on cancel and keep going. That is what I want to prevent.
Is there a way to grey out the cancel button?
Should I do something else within the validation itself?
The text box where the end user types in the data - I want to make this have a drop down list like when using data validation but dont have a clue how to.

I followed the instructions here: {url}, which describe exactly what I want to do. So I put the final procedure listed on that page (the dynamic validation code) into the private module of the user form object as listed below:

I then ran the form and typed a number into the "pipes" textbox that had been validated. A compile error is thrown: "Invalid or unqualified reference", highlighting the ".Value" portion of IsNumeric. I tried to remove certain parts of the code, such as the IF statement and the "And .Value <> vbnullstring", but nothing works. I have a feeling it is because this code was created for Excel 2003 (though I'm not certain).
I have a file where I need the user to fill in a value in a single cell (A1) in order for the data validation I have set up in column B to work. Can I set up a second data validation in the cells in column B? Or is there a way to enter a data validation in cell B11 that would error the user if A1 is not filled in, and circle the cell (A1) that they need to fill in? B11 currently returns the sum of B3:B10.

Then based on the project they select, they need to be able to see all of the locations associated with that project and choose in B3. Finally they then need to be able to select a team which is associated with the project & location combination chosen in cells B2 and B3.

I would like to delete a column using data validation list. for example :
i have a data validation INPUT list in cell A1 (Part No., Supplier 1, Supplier 2, Supplier 3) the heading start from B2,C2,D2,E2,F2. If user select Supplier 1 from data validation list in cell A1, the column Supplier 1 [c2] should be deleted.
And/or also if in cell B1 have a data validation INPUT row list (Part no.) & if user select part no.,
the selected part no. row should be deleted.
I want to control what a user enters into a single cell based on others.E.g.

Column A is a thickness and column b is a width what I want to happen if the user enters a thickness in cell D1 and a width in cell D2 I want an error to pop up if for instance the user enters 100 as a thickness to only allow a maximum of 300 in the width. likewise if the user enters a thickness less than 100 in cell D1 to allow him to enter up to 500.
I'm using Excel 2010, and I need to restrict the value the user can enter into a cell (E9).
In cell E3 is the screen width (pixels). eg 6024
In cell E5 is the preferred width of a window. eg 450
The user, in cell E9, enters an x coordinate for which they prefer the top left corner of the window whose width is specified in E5.
If the value that the user enters in E9, added to the width entered in E5, exceeds the value of E3, (if E9+E5 > E3) then the value should be disregarded (window will be off right of screen) and the user re-enter.
I'm not familiar with the use of data validation, so I'm uncertain as to how to use it in this circumstance.
I'm trying to use data validation to restrict the user to only selecting values in a list which I create. Right now, the list is a named range. I'd like to get rid of the range and just use a named list. I create a name using the following as my list.
Insert > Name > Create
Name: Fruit
Refers to:
banana,apple,orange
When I try to use the name Fruit in my data validation, I get the message "The List Source must be a delimited list, or a reference to single row or column." I thought my name "fruit" was a delimited list.
I am trying to learn the concepts, then apply them to a set of actual worksheets. I am trying to use named ranges from one worksheet in another worksheet. The named ranges need to expand. Although I can get the add data to a dummy worksheet to work within the same worksheet and I can even get a named range to work in the foreign sheet.
My problem is, when I can end up adding the additional data to the named range, it will only add one name. I have a number of named ranges that are referenced on various worksheets. The idea is, certain named ranges should be able to expand so I donft have to type them all in. (There could be hundreds of manufacturers or models.) I would also like them to be able to sort themselves after additional names are added to the named ranges. I would also like them to auto populate as well. I am using Excel 2003 SP3 (11.8307.8221). I have enclosed the file. Drop down lists (named ranges) are on the worksheet called DROP DOWN LISTS (LOCKED) **ITfS NOT CURRENTLY LOCKED**.
The data validation issues are on the worksheet called Rev7.0 Wood (Basic Sheet.) There are other instances to use these, but I hope to learn to do them myself on the other worksheets. Of particular interest is Column f.................
I've made a macro that inserts an entire new row above a specified cell, then updates each column of that row using offset.value and various constants and inputbox variables. Works great so far, unless I try to apply a validation rule to one of the cells.
The code I'm using to add the validation works okay when referring to a specific cell by reference e.g:
With Range("A1").Validation
etc...
However, when I change it thusly:
With Sheet2.Range("LastRow").Offset(-1, 5).Validation

It doesn't like that one bit.
This is part of a private Sub attached to a button in the same sheet. I've had a scan through the archives looking for validation threads, but couldn't find anything that refers to problems with offsets (if indeed that is the problem here).
I have an excel file with multiple sheets. I want my HR team to update that file, but one user shouldnt see the entries of other users. I want to make a consolidated file out of three files. This excel template is for salary input.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a user form that has a combo box "City" two text boxes one called "Flight" and the other "Date". What I'm trying to do is to prevent the user from saving the data input from the user form if any of those three fields is left blank. The code that I have so far checks all of the required fields, if any are left blank a message notifys which field(s) is left blank and return the focus back to that field. But the rest of code also fires.
What I really need is either to stop the code if any fields are blank and return the focus back to the blank field, the user completes the field(s) and clicks the save again, or better yet, pause the code until all the required fields are completed and then complete the save. (There is actually another 200+ lines of code in this sub, but I deleted it to keep the post a little shorter.)

I am writing a macro that essentially takes a template from a workbook and copies it to another workbook that already has data. the data is then imputed into the pasted template through the macro... my dilema is that I have numerous data sheets so at the begining of the code I need the macro to pause so the user can manually select the cell or range that the copied template is to be pasted too... I was thinking an inputbox would work but I am unsure how to write this part of the code.
