Insert Line Break After Every 42 Characters In Cell

Jun 21, 2014

I need a formula to insert a line break after every 42 characters in a cell , example if there is 266 characters in a cell there should be 6(266/42)line breaks.

=REPLACE(REPLACE(A1,42,0,CHAR(10)),84,0,CHAR(10))

I tried this but i am not sure how to get the start num to change to 126,168 and so on

Cell Text Loses Break Characters When Extracted

Oct 16, 2006

I'm trying to automate a very laborious process where text data is taken from a series of cells in excel 97 and is turned into HTML tables - I've got it all working except for one thing, when I extract the contents of the text the paragraphs are lost and are merged into one long piece of text - obviously I need to insert <br /> characters where the paragraphs are to get this working. how I can extract text from with some kind of marker for the paragraph sections? Or is there a way to insert characters where the excel cell has a paragraph mark (ie a return key has been pressed).

Combine 2 Cells With Line Breaks In Each Of Them And Keep Line Break Formatting?

Aug 5, 2014

I'm trying to combine 2 cells that both have text on multiple lines separated by line breaks. I want to keep the formatting so that when both cells are combined, line one from cell 1 and line 1 from cell 2 are on the same line in the new combined cell. This is easy to do when there is only 1 line in each cell but how do you do this for cells with multiple lines? Here is an example of what I am trying to do:

A
B
C

1
First Name:
Last Name:
Address:
John
Smith
123 Harold Street
First Name: John
Last Name: Smith
Address: 123 Harold Street

Move Cell Data To New Line After X Characters

Dec 23, 2007

I am using Excel to create a parts list for a manufacturing assembly. I intend to have 6 categories (columns) for each part or instance. My problem is that the last (furthest right) entry will sometimes contain more characters than others. I want to limit the number of characters in the cells of this last column, and I have seen how to bump the remaining characters down to the next row(s) in the same column using the LEFT and MID formulas. This actually works very well for that purpose. However, I need to know how to force the next instance (row of 6 cell) to start together on the next available row.

The following images should better illustrate my question. First, I show the source data with the contents of cell F2 without further formatting. This cell contains more characters than I want making the column too wide for the printable space allowed. http://www.ozgrid.com/forum/attachme...1&d=1198374241

The next image shows the desired result with the extra characters from cell F2 moved to F3. (This data could actually fill up to 4 or 5 cells vertically.) Here, I have manually entered cells A4 through F5 for this illustration. I need to know how to automatically have A, B, C, D, & E move along with F. http://www.ozgrid.com/forum/attachme...1&d=1198374241

At the moment my code for the message box line looks like:

Msg = "This process will print each site for " & UserSlection & ". Before continuing please ensure you have the right printer selected. (I.E. a colour printer where available). The process may take several minutes to complete. Do you wish to continue?"

I just want to move the "Do you wish to continue?" down two lines so that it is easier to read.

Enter Line-Break At Specific Location

Jun 24, 2014

I know Excel is not the best tool for formatting sentences, but is there a way to insert a Line-Break based on a condition? (Either using Formula or VBA).

The situation is:A fixed-width cell, is a concatenation of 5 strings. Each of these 5 strings is a small sentence of 3-6 words; individually much smaller than the cell-width.2 of these 5 are fixed (one at start, one at the end). The other 3 are results of their respective "IF" formulas.Hence, the final sentence wraps over 2-3 lines.I need the 3rd & 5th sentence (the whole sentence, all 3-6 words of it) to start in a new line, only if they are going to be wrapped into two lines.

So If the wrapping results in:
String1 String2 Stri
ng3 String4 Stri
ng5

Then change it to:
String1 String2
String3 String4
String5

Conditioally Insert Characters To Beginning Of Cell

Feb 8, 2006

I have a column of Supplier IDs. Maximum number of characters is 9. If the supplier ID is not 9 characters long, it should have 0's placed in the front so that there are 9 characters. For example, Supplier ID is 487695. It should look like 000487695. I can get Excel to format the cells correctly by using the custom format. However, when I import into Access, it trims the 0's away even though the field is identified as text because the custom format does not actually change the "value" of the cell. It merely formats the cells.

How can I get this column to correctly import into Access from Excel?

Split Line Break Multiple Columns Into New Rows?

Sep 17, 2013

I'm having troubles with a spreadsheet and unfortunately don't know enough VBA to fix it. I have two columns, each with data like so (standard text) separated by a line break:

Object1
Object2
Object3
value1
value2
value3

And I need them separated like so:

Object1
Value1

Object2
Value2

Object3
Value3

with other items in the row from other columns applied to the new rows accordingly.

Any script/macro/tool (even non-Excel) to do this effectively (over 800 rows)?

Replace Small Square Character With Line Break After Import

Nov 18, 2008

When importing text from a CSV, the 'line returns' appear in a cell as a small square with faded left and right sides. The do force a line break as intended. However, they are a nuisance in reading and printing.

When I use ALT+ENTER to force a line break, there is no visible character (on screen or printed) for the line break, which is as it should be.

How can I replace this 'special character' line break with one not visible?

The doc is not wide. When I first load I can drag the break line successfully. Then I print preview... select print on both sides... boom.. goes from 4 pages to 14. Then I go back to page break view... drag the line... boom... Hundreds of pages. Even if I revert back to printing on one side it still is messed up.

How do I make this stop?? What am I doing wrong?? Office 2010

Automatically Insert Blank Line When Value Of Cell A Changes And Use Of COUNTA Formula

I need to do two things in my Excel spreadsheet: 1) I want it to insert a blank row everytime a value in the 1st column changes. 2) In the blank lines, I want to do a COUNTA for each of columns G through N. If I can get the program to insert the blank rows...they will not be a set # of records apart...some will have 3 records & some might have 17 records. Is there a way to automatically cause #2 to happen instead of having to choose the function icon and then tell Excel the first and last cells in each range?

Macro To Loop And Insert A Page-break

Feb 2, 2010

I have lurked and learned but now this is beyond me-Attached is a sample file - The tab Data is where I start the macro and it is the file( after I have cleaned it up) that I get once a week-I added Column K/L-Blank Count Sheet Format is where the macro puts the info- count sheet is what I want it to look like- Old version is how I used to present the sheets-using subtotals etc-See the print preview to see what old ver and sample look like--

This macro below starts in data and puts Column K / L on the blank and then fills them in. Field 1-5 is all one loc sequence -I have the macro going the first few steps what I have been pulling my hair out attempting to do is --If the part# stays the same keep putting the locations under each other-As I show on Count Sheet and when the part# changes put a page break in and start over again with the new part# and assorted info. The file I get each week to do this with will have from 150 to 200 part #'s. I need a page for each--Each part has from 1 to 10 location's ( The loc consists of Field1-5 alfa-numeric )

Limiting Number Of Characters In A Line

Dec 15, 2008

I work for a localizer of text heavy software. Our developers normally use a converter to pull text out of a file and insert it into the program. This text is normally input into an Excel file since it has to correspond with files/locations in the program.

Since the space on the screen of the program is limited, we often face character limits when inputting text into Excel. Now, one cell might hold up to 255 characters, and I could restrict that with data validation, but within one cell I need to restrict each line (with a hard return) to 30 characters to fit on the screen.

So for example I have a row of cells that look like: ....
