Naming Ranges So Intersect Works
Feb 19, 2007I have 4 sheets (2006,2007,2008,2009) Each has appx. 365 named ranges of 65 rows each. Each row (col A) has text(7:00 am, 7:15, 730, 7:45...11:00 pm (thats 65 rows)) to make a very useful schedule. The top 8 rows of each sheet are frozen so that a control panel has a place to sit. From the control panel, you can click on the go to "TODAY" button and the schedule scrolls to that day and indicates it in a label on the panel. When I named each range, I put a water mark of the day in the back ground so the user always knows what day it is. I also named each range with its respective date and the label on the control panel is supposed to indicate the active range(for instance: the user scrolls down 12 days and clicks inside it).
MY PROBLEM: Code that returns the intersection of the active cell and the name of the range does not work with the way in which I named my ranges. It works on a more simple named range However.

VBA Intersect And Target
Jan 29, 2008Im tring to run the procedure called KeyEventsOn ONLY when a single cell in range E29:E30 changes.
The Intersect and Target are borrowed from a book , I dont fully understand how these work. I am assuming that 'Target' should simply reflect the currently selected range, and the 'intersect' function runs a check as to whether the target is in the range to be checked.
The problem Im having is the variable 'Target'. If the above is true, why for example when I type 'ABC' into the current selected cell does the variable 'Target' show as "ABC" and not "$E$29" (or whatever cell is selected)...

Selecting Cell At Row/column Intersect
Jan 12, 2007The match results are posted on another sheet and the winner allocated the letter W and the loser allocated L (in the sample workbook attached these are on sheet2 cells B1 and B2 with the winners name in A1 and the losers in A2, i.e. Bill and Susan) I have the code for this working properly.
What I need to do next is transfer the W and L onto the grid in sheet1 and insert the W in the cell that is the intersection between the row with the winners name and the column with the losers name. Then insert the L in the cell that is the intersection between the row with the losers name and column with the winners name. I hope that makes sense!
If it is simpler to insert the W and L into the grid directly from the winner and loser names in sheet2 col A rather than allocating the W and L in col B first, then that is great.
Application.DisplayAlerts Freezes Application
Jul 14, 2006Im copying and pasting data from one workbook to another but when I want to close the source workbook, it comes up with this message that I have much data and if I want to keep this in a clipboard. I thought I could disable this with Application.DisplayAlerts = False but when I do this, Excel freezes. Im I doing something wrong. How can I supress this window?

These sets of Longitute and Latitude coords define a boundary for my zip code. What I need to do is create a complex polygon with the above coords and then, feeding a function a Longitute and Latitude, determine if that given global position falls within my polygon (zip code boundary).
For example:
Longitude: -84.6197

Will fall within the above polygon and my function would return true.

This generated data now needs to update the "timetable" sheet by using the "allocated cover teacher" and "period" cells as a reference to then input the class code into the timetable at this time.

Utilize A Select Case Statement In Target Intersect Statement
Jul 28, 2009I am currently using an Intersect statement in a worksheet module to perform two things:
1. Insert a time stamp into row 2 when row 1 has a price inserted
2.To clear that time stamp if the price is deleted at some later date.
My problem is with the time stamp value being deleted by the user.
If I try to clear the price (now that the time cell =empty) I get a Runtime error 91 - Object Variable or With block variable not set.
I would like to convert this code to a select case statement but I'm not sure how to do this in this situation. Would error coding be appropriate in this instance?
Move Ranges To Corresponding Ranges Based On Column Having Data
Oct 25, 2007I need help creating a macro that will search through my excel spreadsheet and for every instance where column A isn't empty it should cut a range of columns from that row and paste them in a different range of columns in the row before it. It should then delete the row that it cut the columns from and keep searching until it has done this for the whole worksheet. I can modify which range of columns are needed, but it has been so long since I've worked with excel macros that I haven't been able to do it.

Dec 11, 2006With the help of Professional Excel Developement by Bullen Bovey and Green, I am building a Dictator Application. All-in-all, it is coming very well, EXCEPT that I can't seem to get the IgnoreRemoteRequests setting to get written to the registry properly on ShutDown.
On Open, I change this setting to True. In the BeforeClose event, I reset it to False, along with all of the Settings that I hosed on Open. All of the other settings get properly saved on exit, however, the IgnoreRemoteRequests is still set to True the next time Excel gets re-opened.

Jun 26, 2009done some VBScript spreadsheet reporting involving basically inserting data and some formatting.
I need some advice on what approach to take with Excel on my current project. The basic goal is to scrape project requirements off a word doc and load them into Quality Center (a test management tool from HP, henceforth referred to as QC). I have an hta/vbs process that offers the user choices gleaned from the QC API, scrapes the word doc, and creates a spreadsheet with a row for each requirement and a column for each property a "requirement" has in QC. These values are a combination of data from the word doc and values selected by the user in the preceeding hta interface.
The reason for this Excel step in the process is that all the values chosen up to this point are generic for the entire project. But there are a few properties that will be requirement specific. So all the info is collected in Excel and the user is to then go through each row and choose the "target cycle" (which I pulled off QC earlier in the process and display in Excel as a dropdown list). The "Platform Folder" and the "Module Folder".
Ok, so with that backround, here is my quandry... In the hta interface the user selected all the "Platform Folders" the project will have requirements in. These are then presented in a dropdown in the Excel, so the user can choose which of these Platform Folders this specific requirement should be loaded into. What I need to do is then have the "Module Folders" to be a dropdown that is dependant on the "Platform folder" chosen.
This is difficult enough for me, creating a dynamic dependant dropdown that will be replicated on each row. I don't know exactly how to do this but feel I can probably figure it out with all the help offered on these MVP sites.
What I can't figure out is where to do this. Should I set up the lists, formulas, and control code dynamically? Can these dependant list derive their values from comma delimited lists (like I did the non-dependent lists) or must they be in a worksheet? The only way I see to make the dependent dropdown work correctly is to have it run off a worksheet event. Can worksheet event code be applied dynamically or do I need to have a "template" type workbook containing the code in the application's folder and use that instead of creating a new workbook at exe time? I still have to write the upload into QC code, and that will probably be a macro that the user will have to install into their personal.xls. Can the dependent dropdown code be installed in the same way even though it needs to be event driven? Another aspect is getting the data for the dropdown. I can either get the lists earlier in the process when I already have a connection to QC and pass it along, or I can connect to QC from Excel and get the values dynamically. I am assuming passing them in will be more efficient.
