Isolating Text And Number Strings

Nov 14, 2013

I have an address column in which multiple strings of text and numbers have been combined. I need to isolate each string and place it into its own column.

Column looks like this....

ADDRESS
615 NE CORDER AVE, LEES SUMMIT, MO 64063

2661 NW LEES SUMMIT RD, LEES SUMMIT, MO 64064

104 SE 4TH ST, LEES SUMMIT, MO 64063

4944 SW GULL POINT DR, LEES SUMMIT, MO 64082

3904 SW PRYOR RD, LEES SUMMIT, MO 64082

329 NW BRADFORD ST, LEES SUMMIT, MO 64064

They need too look something like this...
No.
Suffix
Street
Type
City
State
Zip

615 NE Corder Ave Lees Summit MO 64083

The problem I'm having when trying to use a "left" or "right" formulas is some of the strings have different positions in the whole string itself (does that make sense?) (some addresses have 4 characters, some have 3, so on....)

Isolating Text That Occurs Multiple Times In Cell?

Jan 15, 2014

I want to isolate text on either side of dashes ( " - " ) that occur either 2 or 3 times in a single cell.

Example:

Apples - Pears - 99 - 100+ years
Bananas - 56 - 57+ years

In particular, I would like to capture the "99 - 100+ years" and "56 - 57+ years" text on its own.

I tried this " =SUBSTITUTE(A1, "*- ", "", 1) but it doesn't work

Isolating Data...?

Nov 27, 2008

I have a spreadsheet with 2 sheets (Railcar Record & Switch) They both contain the same column names and will contain the same data. I want to do, is to have the user type in the Railcar # on Switch, and have all the information in the columns on this sheet fill in. As you can see and as previously mentioned, the information is all stored on the Rail Car Record, I just need to isolate certain information on the switch sheet.

Isolating Specific Data

Jun 16, 2009

I have data that I'm copying from a PDF and pasting in an excel sheet. The data that I need is mostly in groups of three rows, but sometimes there will be two extra rows under each data group. The two extra lines are extremely similar to two of the lines of data I need, so I can't think of a way to isolate them with a filter, and each document is 15,000 rows long, so doing it manually doesn't seem to be an option.

One of the lines of data that I need always starts with a dollar sign, so my thought is I could cut those so there would be a blank cell, and then I would just need a way to select the two rows immediately above every blank cell, leaving the two data rows I don't want below every blank cell.

If / Then And For Loop - Isolating File In Array

Feb 28, 2013

I have a For loop, its an array with 5 file names in it. The loop checks for the files in the path, and if the file is there it places the file in the corresponding sheet in the workbook. If it is not, I get the option to browse for the file. Originally all 5 files were required, however now the requirements changed and only 4 are required the last file "byband.csv" is not required. So they want the option a message box telling the user the file is not required they can browse or keep going.

I worked out the second part but only by taking "byband.csv" out of the loop and writing a separate procedure for it, I wondered if in my original procedure I could isolate "byband" and if not found go to another part of the procedure. Basically, I needed to do the following:

If the file in the array byBand.csv is not found, Then:

vmbProceed = MsgBox(strFifthImportFile & strMessage, vbYesNo + vbQuestion, strTitle)
If vmbProceed = vbNo Then
Exit Sub
Else

go to Line 1 in the procedure below.

Code:

Sub import_Employee_Data()

'This is Step 1 when the frmDataImportSplash is activated.
'This procedure imports the byEmployee.csv sheet. The procedure checks if the file is
'in the same directory as the template. If the file is not there, a browser window appears to allow the user
'to browse for the missing file. A series of message boxes guide the user through the process and
'verifies that the user picked the right file. The user can cancel the import at any time.

Dim strPath As String
Dim strFirstImportFile As Variant

Sum Of Lap Times In Order To Give Race Time At Any Lap

I'm not fussed as to whether or not this is a realistic function that would work in a real race, it's only hypothetical. However I would like to have a function that would give me the over all race time at any given lap, not just the lap time for it.

Live Capture Of "Orbits" Race Data

Oct 5, 2006

I have a program running on my computer called Orbits.

What Orbits does is monitor a race track, and via a transponder in each race car, when a race car crosses the start/finish line Orbits will record that infomation.

The orbits program continually feeds data out the port 50000.

I can start hyper-terminal (yes the free one that comes with windows) and create a link the the computer running orbits. I use IP and port (Ex. 10.0.0.1 and port 50000).

As the race is going on I can see the data in hyperterminal: Below is a sample.

$F,9999,"00:00:00","19:52:40","02:09:14","Green "
$F,9999,"00:00:00","19:52:41","02:09:15","Green "
$F,9999,"00:00:00","19:52:42","02:09:16","Green "
$F,9999,"00:00:00","19:52:43","02:09:17","Green "

What I would like to do Is to get this data LIVE into excel, as the race is going on.

I have no idea of to get this data into Excel since It is not saving it as a file.

Import Large Text File Of Numbers Without Excel Splitting Numbers?

Jul 19, 2014

I have a text file with rows and columns of numbers ranging from 1-4 digits that I'd like to import/copy into Excel with each number being in its own cell. But whenever I copy/try to import, Excel splits all of the 3-4 digit numbers up into single digit numbers. The text file has 10,000+ columns (each number occupies two columns so I have half of that amount in numbers) and 300+ lines.

Is the file simply too large for Excel to handle or is there a way I can do this?

Extract Numbers From Text Para And Sum Extracted Numbers?

repairs booked in Dec,11 (INR 37k)

skill fees booked in Jan,12 INR 52k
Reimb for 01 employee in Jan,12 INR 8k fee accounted- xyz INR 250k, Quick solutions INR 52K, ABCD India INR 272K, Layer Technologies INR30K and complex mgt INR 21K

Note: (INR 37K) means negative number i.e. -37

Now my task is to manually total the above amounts in calculator, i.e.

-37-42-56+52+8+250+52+272+30+21 = =550

like this there are 100s of cells, could derive a formula for this task.

Making Sure Numbers In Column Are Formatted As Numbers And Not As Text

I'm working on a spreadsheet with about 400 rows and 10 columns. All the numbers in the columns are formatted as text, which doesn't allow me to use AutoSum. I have selected the cells and formatted them as number with no decimals, but AutoSum still doesn't work because the formatting hasn't changed and they're still formatted as text. I know if I double click each cell, the cell changes the format from text to number, but that will take a lot of time to change 400 cells in each of the 10 columns. What can I do to quickly reformat the cells from text to number?

Converting Decimal Numbers To Text With Dot Numbers

May 27, 2006

we work with both Lotus 123 and Excel 2003. Lotus will be gone next year, but for now, the official mean to publish our reports is Lotus. With my work, I copy/paste a Lotus page to Excel. I use the following macro to convert Lotus format numbers (which Excel considers as text) to real numbers:

Sub ForceToNumber()
Dim wSheet As Worksheet
For Each wSheet In Worksheets
With wSheet
. Range("IV65536") = vbNullString
.Range("IV65536").Copy
.UsedRange.PasteSpecial xlPasteValues, xlPasteSpecialOperationAdd
End With
Next wSheet
End Sub

Source : http://www.ozgrid.com/forum/showthre...087#post184087. The problem is that I need to send back this data in Lotus. Excel considers decimal numbers with a coma as real numbers and numbers with a dot as a text. This previous macro fixes that. However, Lotus works the other way. Only numbers with a dot are considered real numbers. So I would need to find a way to code a macro that converts any numbers in the Excel sheet to a number with a dot. It's a bit like doing the opposite operation.

Convert Numbers, Seen As Text, To True Numbers

Aug 26, 2006

The back story is that from a system we use, when you download data from inside it, Excel treats most of the cells with a "Number Stored As Text" error. I had problems with this and it was just generally annoying so I wrote the below macro that converts each of the cells back to general cells and reinputs the data, essentially reseting the cell and keeping the data. Being that this is a loop, it takes a good while to run if alot of data was downloaded. Any idea's on how to speed it up besides screen updating? Note, other stuff happens in the first macro, but it is just cosmetic non-intensive things. It calls the second macro because I wanted them seperate should I want to just run the second.

Sub CleanData()
Application. ScreenUpdating = False
' Find the Right most cell and the Bottom most cell and
' run the macro from A1 to this cell recursively
Range("IV1").End(xlToLeft).Select
Col = Selection.Column
Range("A65536").End(xlUp).Select
Row = Selection.Row
Range("A2").Select
Range("A1", Cells(Row, Col)).Select
Application.Run ("FixTextAsNumberError")
Application.ScreenUpdating = True
'
End Sub..............

Match (text) Numbers To Numbers From One Cell To Another

Oct 12, 2006

I need the " solutions cells " to match to the " source cells " and return a " yes " or " no ". in cells d4:d10. Ex: #1 cell C4=01234598, it will conduct a search & match of cell A5 which contains the number 123, since cell C4 contains all 3 numbers from cell A5, then the formula would result in a " Yes ". The match has to contain all 3 numbers from the solution cells to the source cells.

Ex: #2 cell C7=67891234, it will conduct a search & match of cell A8 =901. Since cell C7 only contains the 9&1 from cell A8, it would return a " No " because cell C7 did not contain all 3 numbers from cell A8. I'm not sure if the IF, Match, Index or Count formula is the right one to use, they all seem to partially work, but still don't complete this problem.

Convert Numbers As Text To True Numbers

Sep 29, 2007

I have the following two macros that I use daily:

Public Sub add_tick_marks()
Dim c As Range
For Each c In Selection
If Not IsError(c.Value) Then
If Left(c.Value, 1) <> "'" And c.Value <> "" Then
If InStr(c.Value, "E+") > 0 Then
c.Value = "'" & c.Formula
Else

I use these because I frequently copy billing account numbers that have leading zeros from some proprietary software and work with them in Excel. I need the leading zeros to facilitate VLookUp's. When I paste the data into Excel it truncates the leading zeros. My typical procedure is:

1. Copy a column of values from our proprietary software
2. Paste it in Excel (Ctrl+V)
3. While newly pasted data is still selected I hit Ctrl+1 which brings up the Format Cells form.
4. I double click "Text"
5. I re-paste into Excel (Ctrl+V)
6. I run my macro to add tic marks to the values so the leading zeros never get lost.

The problem occurs when I copy multiple columns of data and paste it in Excel. If one of the columns of data contains numbers or currency then I select that range of values and run the macro to get rid of the tic marks. After running the macro the numbers are still treated as text. When I select a range of those values and right-click on the status bar and select " Sum" there is no value. No big deal, I just highlight them and format the cells as numbers or currency. But after formatting them as numbers or currency, they retain their format as text until I click in the formula bar for each individual cell and hit enter, at which time they take on the number or currency format I have chosen and the sum can then be displayed in the status bar.

How can I force the formatting I chose to take effect on the data immediately without me having to individually "fake change" the data in each cell?
