I haven't used List Boxes much previously but decided to use one in this instance because I wanted the capability to make multiple selections. I used the following in a list box called "ListBox_Analysis_Code":

If I erroneously saved over an excel document that is stored on an external drive, is there any way to restore the previous saved document, or am I screwed.
The thumb drive is plugged into a computer that gets backed up onto a network server, but I assume that the external thumb drive is not backed up with the c drive and r drive on the server.
I'm only starting to get to grips with arrays. I have what I consider to be a lot of data that I need to 'cut' into separate workbooks. I have written some code that does this by simply looping through each line, 250k+, checking against a variable and copying the row into a separate sheet. This took longer than it would have doing it manually. It was suggested to me that I use arrays to speed up the process. I have managed to store the test data into an array but am struggling to find a way to loop through and pull out an entire 'row' from the array based on a variable. I have looked for 2 days in various places to find some way to loop through the data held in the array, but to no avail.
That code will appear here from about 8am GMT tomorrow. I know that once I've cracked this I'm on the road to some very significant time saving and comprehensive report writing.

I have a workbook that has 2 worksheets (Sheet1 and Sheet2). Each sheet has 2 checkboxes and a listbox that has 6 columns. Everything works great until I save and close the workbook. When I reopen, all the selections for the listboxes are gone, however the checkboxes are checked as expected. Why aren't the listbox selections being saved? How do I get them to save? I found something similar in a previous post but it referred to a userform which I am not using.

I open up the file with Excel and after manipulating the data with VBA code which includes identifying the Source Path directory(strSourcePath As String ) and the File name (strFileName As String) I want to be able to open up a 'Save As' Window and save the manipulated data into the same Source Path directory(strSourcePath) with the File Name being the prefix of the original with a suffix .txt extension. Ex: “ABC123.txt” instead of “ABC123.exp” and the Save as type: Text (Tab delimited)(*.txt). This way my original data won’t be overwritten.
View 5 Replies View Related I am trying to do a sort of index match thing using VBA. What I am attempting to do is to use the prefix of a long number and try to find that exact prefix in a string array, and output that string array value. So this is what I have so far as a test:

So I can match the text exactly so if I put PREFIXB in cell A1 in this example, i will get the msg box saying "YES", but if I make it PREFIXB1231k4j3jj1kj32cj, it will display "NO". I want to get it so that PREFIXB will be displayed in the cell that I put the formula in. So if A1 = "PREFIX1AAA100CF" and cell B1 = "=ABC(A1)", cell B1 will display "PREFIX1AAA".
Now the thing is that these prefixes can have different lengths, but will never encompass the exact prefix of another. So if I had a prefix of: PRE1AB, I won't have a prefix of PRE1A.
My sheet has a calculator that outputs a value based on inputs. I also have a pick list on top labeled Q1-Q4. Depending on which value is selected on the picklist, the input values will output a different amount. I want to create a button which allows me to take this output and save it in another cell under a heading Q1, Q2 etc. depending on which Q was selected in the original picklist. In essence I want a button that records each output onto the same sheet by by quarter(Q).

trying to output a 1x10 array of the function FwdRate. The inputs are all 1x10 horizontal ranges of numbers. I am trying to get a list of states, based on their expiration date.
I have all 51 states listed, some states have 2, 3 or more licenses, so I created a column that I hid of the state abbreviation, for the use of formulas.
If the license expires in 30 days or less I want to display the state abbreviation. I couldnt figure out how to do an array output, so this is what I am trying to come up with.

I found some VBA code that saves the previous value entered into a cell and displays it as a comment. I've attached that workbook as an example, but I want to change 3 things.
1) I only want to capture the previous values from Sheet1.Column1 (you'll see the example captures changes on the whole sheet1).
2) I want to 'paste' the previous value of Sheet1.Column1 in the corresponding row of Sheet1.ColumnD (i.e. the previous value of A5 will be displayed in D5). The code currently pastes the value in the corresponding address in sheet2.
3) I do not need the comments part. Simply displaying the previous value in the corresponding row of Sheet1.ColumnD is good enough.

I have a long list of values, a few thousand lines, that I need to input into an array so I can run a formula on the values in the array and then take those results and put them into another array which I can then call to output down a different column. Is there a faster way to accomplish this than the typical For Loop with the activecell.value and activecell.offset commands, that just takes forever.

The combobox is filled from a textbox, where the user inputs the project duration. For example if the user put five years into the textbox, the combobox would have years 1,2,3,4,5, and a default of all years. I want to change the combobox to a multi-selection List Box. I changed the sub that loads the current combobox to this:

I used to be able to select a value for the combobox, (the default of all years), but I get an error if I include that part of the code now. I wanted to know how I can make this selection by code. Also, the bigger question for me is how do I deal with multiple selections that may or may not be sequential. As an example, for the travel section, there may be a particular expense that will occur in yrs. 1,3,5. I found some info about referring to the position in the array, but it seems like this will constantly change. I could imagine doing case scenarios, but it seems like there would be too many potential possibilities to cover.

I have been working on this data entry and validation tool for work for a while now. I've got most of it down and works just as I want it to. However, I have made some validation lists for people to select and animal ID when entering some data. Once the animal ID is entered I want to remove it from the source data and the list to stop people entering a duplicate number for the same event.
I'm not sure how easy/difficult this will be but the whole reason for this project was to stop people entering the same data and only allow them to enter data that I pre-define. Its to cut down on mistakes where somone will enter the wrong ID and then finding the correct ID becomes difficult due to having over 4000 animals on site.
I am trying to take two random Mouse click selections and swap a set of ranges associated with the cells that are selected. For example if the user clicks on A1 it will resize(3,22) and store the selection as a variable to be swapped with another selection. What I need is a script or formula with returns multiple results and puts them into one cell.
The Excel is used as a Project Managment Work Sheet for Resources, working on different Projects and their dedicated hours
The raw data table looks like this:
Column A: Project Name (=AllProjectsLists)
Column E: Resource Name (=MasterDataResources)
Column P: values from 0 to 8 (hours)
First I need to check per row the Resource Name. If the Resource Name is a match, than I need to check if in column P the value is bigger than 0. The result goes into a different sheet per row, one result per Resource, but the multiple results should be shown in one cell.
So the result should be something like:
Resource name "Thomas" .... Projects working on: "Project 1, Project 5, Project 13, ..." (in one cell)
Resource name "Mary" .... Projects working on: "Project 3, Project 9, Project 13, ..." (in one cell)

I'm creating a new spreadsheet for different fines we have as a football club.
I have a table frozen at the top which looks like this:

Then also I have a list below this with the date and specific fines:

I am wanting the amount of the fine to be entered into the table at the top of the spreadsheet automatically based on the 2 drop down list entries. I would also need the table to keep adding the fines together once new entries are made.
I have a couple of drop down lists of data created from lists as well as fields next to it.
What I want it to do is take that data, which is name, start time, end time, days worked, queue (or work type), and fill the table next to it which is just a 30 minute by 30 minute schedule sheet with days of week 1 and week 2 on top.
I figure it would be easier to have a GO button to do this.
I will attach an example of what I mean, but please, if you guys find that there is an easier way to do this, just let me know, I feel this might involve some code/macros instead of excel functions
I would like to find out how can I create a chart, where it is interacting with the selection of 3 drop down list (created from data validation-list option). It will show up to 12 months of data.
First list would have only Male & Female, 2nd list would have 1st Class, 2nd Upper, 2nd Lower, 3rd Class and Pass Only, 3rd list would have all the months of 3 years.
My data is from J9:U22. These data needs to be changed accordingly, reading from D45:U58.
For the graph, if I select Male, 2nd Upper, and Jun-2012, I want it to show only this selection, where the period will be from Jul-2011 till Jun-2012.
Previously I have done one, with only 1 selection of drop down list, where I used Vlookup. Now involves 3 criterias.
Or is there an easier way to do it?

I've written a procedure that loads a list of country selections in a dropdown (see attached/vb editor/ThisWorkbook).
The problem is the valid values for this column need to be just the two digit country codes, not the country code +dash+country name. The reason the dropdown selections include both the two digit country code and the country name is because most users will not know the two digit codes. Presenting the selections in this fashion will make t much easier for the user to make the proper selection.
So here is what I need: When the user makes a selection from the dropdown list, the resulting value needs to be the two digit country code only. Is there a way to incorporate this formula .... =MID(B2|1|2) ... in the vba procedure which runs after the user makes a selection? Or, is there another way to accomplish this?

I'm trying to create a drop down list which returns values based on what has been selected in the previous drop down list in the adjacent cell, e.g. if 'Apples' is selected in the previous cell then you should only be able to select from 'Gala, Granny Smith', or if 'Oranges' is selected you should only be able to select 'Seville, Blood Orange'. Is there a formula which would do this, or can I use a pivot table somehow? I'm totally stumped.

Column A is a list of names
Column B is a list of numbers
Column C is a list of the names that correspond to the number "1" from Column B. Note that there are no blank rows between the names.

I have used the index & match formulas to do this WITH duplicates or blank rows, but I would like to produce this without duplicates. I am willing to get as complicated as need be to make this happen.
I need to have a drop down list which displays a different set of values depending upon the value selected by a previous drop down list. ie. (drop down box 1)= x, y, z. (drop down box 2)= either x1, x2, x3, or y1, y2, y3, or z1, z2, z3. I can produce a single drop down box thats not a problem but linking several drop down boxes is beyond me .
