Lottery Number Generation: Create A Single Line Function
Mar 29, 2002
You must install "Analysis TookPak-VBA" before doing this; check in your Excel's Tools/Add-Ins menu. Paste this long function (see below) in an Excel's worksheet (any cell) and press F9 (calculate) until you see at least 2 identical numbers. Real life's lottery does not have repeating numbers. I can disable this repetition by using cells relation but I want to use just one (1) cell. Any expert wants to challenge? If not, you can use VBA. But it still requires one (1) line of codes.
I am trying to count the number of commas in each line of my Excel file. So I first decided to count the total number of rows and then count the number of commas in each row. I wrote this code. But I keep getting an error saying Next without for.
Sub Give_The_Last_Row() Selection.SpecialCells(xlCellTypeLastCell).Select LastRow = ActiveCell.Row
I have multiple users that use a spreadsheet to enter data. I am trying to figure a way to assign a case number to each row of data that is entered. I cannot really do sequential numbers, because often people are entering data at the same time, and often these people are working offline.
So I was thinking if I could somehow have the case number be a few letters (to identify a specific person) and then a series of numbers (to signify which case number it is). That would allow multiple users to enter data offline simultaneously without having to worry that the case numbers are going to be the same. Maybe I could use the Application.UserName and somehow parse it to give me the letters (perhaps Intials or something), and then somehow apply sequential numbers to that...
I m trying to achieve is generating ref numbers automatically.
I have attached an example.
In Cell A if the user choose yes it gives a ref number. The trouble im having is that say in cell A5 a Yes is choosen at a later date, it will throw the numbers out of order and the ref numbers get mixed up, there any way of stopping this from happening or any function that prevents this from happening
I get the following error whenever I try running a Monte Carlo simulation with iterations in excess of 64000 (The MC simulation calls the 'NormSInv' worksheet function at least once per iteration, and the argument to the 'NormSInv' function is always a standard normal RANDOM number also generated by Excel VBA): Run-time error '1004': Unable to get the NormSInv property of the WorksheetFunction class Why do I inevitably encounter this error ONLY when the number of iterations exceeds 64000, for instance? Simulations with iterations < 64000 run smoothly without a glitch.
I understand how RAND and RANDBETWEEN work, but have a slightly more complicated random number generation problem that requires a number that isn't solely between two numbers.
I have one cell that is randomly generating a number between 0 and 350 (we'll call this value A) and another randomly generating a number between 0 and 15 (value B). Then, I have a third cell (value C) that equals 15 minus B. Where I am having trouble is with a fourth cell (value D). This cell I want to have randomly generate a number between 0 and 350 but it needs to be D less than the value in A or C more than the value in A. Is there an advanced random number generation technique that can solve this?
Been trying to think of a way to get random numbers 1 to 36 generated without repeating in the same column, however also getting it to perform the same opertaion in 9 more columns (B:J) without the same number appearing in the same row.
example
1 2 5 4 2 5 3 1 3 4 1 5 4 1 2 3 5 3 4 2
Unsure if this is possible, have created a basic script for random number generation but have no clue how to expand across columns.
Here how it works, if B3 is the same color as the reference cell $A$76 and D3 is different than D4 then the result is 1
I would like this function to work from line 3 to line 60 and return the total of lines where the conditions are met. I'm thinking of a =COUNTIF function but can't get something to work. If there is a simpler way, it's even better. The IfColor is a function I wrote in VBA,
I want to create a user defined function to search a column of data for a part number.
If it exists I want to have a the UDf returna "fail" otherwise "pass"
Here is the code I was trying to use
Function firstpass(SN As String) As String ws = Worksheets("Defects") c = "" With ws.Range("a1:a9999") Set c = .Find(SN, LookIn:=xlValues, lookat:=xlWhole) End With If Not c Is Nothing Then firstpass = "Pass" Else firstpass = "Fail" End If
End Function
This function only returns a "#value" and I don't quite know how to troubleshoot it.
Difference between these two statements. The first one works perfectly while the second one returns an error. Also why is the best scenario to use IF and Then on a single line?
I have to worksheets: Sheet1, Sheet2. In sheet 1, I have some data like this (in first col is 1, second col is a, third col is c etc. ):
1 a b c d 2 e f g h . . . .
I need in sheet 2 in range A1(only in this range one big text), something like this: a,c,e,g ........ ( row1-col2,row1-col4,row1-col2,row1-col4 ......) ( separated by ","). The number of rows from sheet 1 is variable. The dataf a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h ... is some random text.
Showed a line chart using 2 vertical axis where the first was a single line along the graph (ie. 42%) then the second data series was a single data point that was above or below the line which easily showed if the result lied above or below the threshold.
How to get a straight line across the body of the just to be used as the theshold line?
I had the following code that worked great with Excel 2003, but I receive an error with Excel 2007.
Dim Master As Workbook Set Master = Workbooks("Master.xls")
For Each wb In Workbooks wb.Activate If wb.Name Like "S04*" Then _ If Not Range("A2") = Empty Then _ Range(Cells(Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp), Range("A2")).EntireRow.Copy _ Master.ActiveSheet.Cells(Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp).Offset(1) Next wb
I receive error 1004 "application defined or object defined error" when it tries to paste to the "Master" sheet using the the above lines.
Is there something in the formatting that has changed with 2007? I'm guessing I have to slightly change the line in bold.
My basic problem is I compile a newsletter for my company. Many people write me E-mails and i paste their "daily accomplishments" into a template. My question is if there is an easy way to insert bullets at the beginning of each line inside the cell. My company wants it prepared with a certain type. I am attaching a sample.
I have some code (authored by Dangler) that i want to pull not just one range but also the contents of one specific cell and then copy the range and cell to a line on another spreadsheet.
I import data into an excel spreadsheet where a unique job number may have multiple costs against it. These import as separate lines, repeating the job number.
The data imports on a sheet called 'DataImport'. From that sheet I transfer some of the imported fields onto another sheet.
What I need to be able to do is transfer the job number and a sum of the costs onto the other sheet.
The data is run regularly and I delete all the fields on the DataImport sheet in the macro each time the import is run.
I'm trying to search for a column by looking for a specific column header and then format the entire column in the specific number format desired, but I keep getting an error message with this line.
Code: With Rows("1:1") .Find(what:="Go Live Date").Column.NumberFormat = "m/d/yyyy" End With
In VBA, is it possible to write to a text file, on 1 single line (without carriage return or line feed) the values of a dynamic array? For instance, I have the array:
Dim my(n) As Double 'n is changeable my(0) = 0 my(1) = 1 my(2) = 2 .....
I want to write to a text file, like this: Write #filename, my(0), my(1), my(2) '..... until my(n) but n is changing
I want them on 1 line, because I use the other direction (up - down) for other things).
I have one row per day of the month in column A. each row has one or more cell entries in column B .... to column (variable) Right now I use a formula =concatenate(B2,CHAR(10),C2,CHAR(10),D2.....) for as long as it has to be, but this has its limits and requires a lot of editing as the number of filled cells for each row vary.
would it be possible with some macro code to manage the variable number of cells and then insert verything, wrapped text, in a single cell (can be cell Bx or a cell in a new column added next to the dates column) As soon as everything is in the single cell, the original data cells can be emtied. I can record a macro but that does not allow me to manage the variable number of cells . a small sample file attached.
I have 2 tabs on my spreadsheet. The first has some text at the top in cells A1 and A2, and that's it. The second tab I need a script for. Basically, I need some sort of macro button and a text box. I want people to be able to type some text in a cell or box on the 2nd tab, hit a button, and the text that has just been typed will be copied and pasted in to the next available cell down on the first tab.
For example, say the 1st tab had 'title' written in cell A1, and 'hello' written in cell A2. If I were to go to the 2nd tab, type 'bonjour' in to a cell or text box, and hit a button, the text 'bonjour' would be copied, the script would read the 1st tab and see that cells A1 and A2 already had text in them, and so paste 'bonjour' in to cell A3.
I run the company office pool / lottery. A person selects 6 numbers 1-49. Twice a week the provincial draw is held. if your number matches the drawn number i would highlight your number on the spreadsheet. When all of your numbers are highlighted, you win. This usually takes 3-4 draws to cover all your numbers. Ideally i would like to simply enter the drawn numbers & have excel automatically highlight the number next to each persons name if they have selected that number.
I have 49 lottery numbers split in 3 segment and 5 groups separated by coma In cell Range from B2:F4,
I enter 5 numbers from draw result in to cells B9:F9
What I want to highlight the ticket numbers that have been drawn a in lottery, In this example the ticket numbers are in cells B2:F4, and the drawn numbers are entered in cells B9:F9
Example is below A B C D E G1G2G3G4G5Seg12, 5, 6, 8, 915, 1921, 25, 2637, 38, 4042, 45, 48Seg23, 4, 711, 13, 1827, 3047, 50Seg31, 1012, 14, 16, 17, 2022, 23, 24, 28, 2931, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 3941, 43, 44, 46, 49Lottery Result Below:57142049
I tried to modify the above code, so it will refer undefined/dynamic data column, but getting an error during execution "Run Time Error - 424:" "Object required"
