Macro To Populate Cells With Formula Based On Adjacent Cell?
Mar 31, 2014
I have a spreadsheet with data populated down column B. This size will vary from day to day so is there a macro I can run that will populate Column C with a formula based on their being data in the adjacent cell.
I have three hidden columns (Text only) one column with Parts, then Description, then Cost. I have a pull down menu (i.e. Cell 3, A) listing all of the choices in the hidden Parts column. I want to automatically populate Cell 3, B with the corresponding Description when a Part is chosen from the pull down menu, and the same in another column for the Cost.
Is there a way to make a cell populate certain text based on conditions of other cells without putting the formula in the cell you want to populate. So that someone could type other text into the cell if the conditions were not met?
Based on a trigger point (being a month), and the number of times the expenditure is spread over (factor), can I formulaize the repetition of the figures?
How to populate data in non-adjacent cells from information that is stored on another sheet. Sheet 1 is essentially setup to be visually pleasing to the user, but the data stored behind it is on another sheet stored in a more logical manner. I would like to auto-populate the nicely formatted sheet with information from sheet 2 when an item from a drop-down list is selected. I have found quite a few ways to do this using offset, etc. but in my case the values will be pulled into cells that are spread around the design sheet in no set order.
I have the need to create a spreadsheet that will populate multiple fields in the spreadsheet based on a drop down selection, i.e.:
In A1 I will have a drop down with 300 items. When an item is selected the next four cells will populate with predetermined data. Example:
For each person I have information that applies only to that person like so: Bob Red Hair Blue Eyes 6' tall California Jan Blond Green 5' tall Florida Ian Brown Brown 5'5" Texas
If someone chooses bob from the drop down, I need the next four cells to display the information relating to bob.
I have been reading through trying to find a similar post but the nearest i could find was one dealing with numbers rather than text. This is how the workbook looks. Column A contains a list of numbers based on vehicle types. Column B contains a list of vehicle names.
A B 1 Car, 1 Taxi, 2 Bus, 2 Lorry, 3 Skateboard, 3 Bike, 1 Motorcycle,
What I am looking for is the best way to combine the text from column B depending on the value of column a. the finished results would then end up as: "Car,Taxi,Motorcycle,", or "Bus,Lorry," etc. This is just a simple list.. The one I am working with has around 2500 entries. I have been trying to do this using the CONCATENATE function and IF statement but it's just not working..... My head is ready to explode
Been racking brain, searching through the forum here, and my Excel 2003 Bible all day trying to figure out this problem to no avail. I would like to clear the contents of any cell in a given range if the cell immediately to the right of is formatted as bold.
What I want to achieve: those cells have number 1 ( in column E) , adjacent cell values ( In Column D) are copied to G12 in the following format:: Mark,Lark ( i.e. cell value , cell value, etc)
is it possible ( with a command button) Sample attached
I have a table in excel with some data to create labels, but these labels must be repeated according to the number of volumes. Example: I have a delivery for X and such delivery has 5 volumes, need to create 5 labels just changing the volume number: 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, 4/5 5/5.
I would enter a value in "D1" after running the code, in column "A" shall be filled as follows.
I've created the following Macro based on some of the posts on this great forum! It works great, but I'd like to tweak it for another purpose where it would fill the formula down until a cell in column AF had the value "#N/A" or stopped having the value "clean". The #N/A is from a formula result so I'm not sure if or how the Macro would treat this.
Code: Sub Y_CleanUp3() ' ' Clean Up Bad Data Macro 3 Dim LR As Integer Range("AH2").Formula = "=VLOOKUP(X2,'[Territory by Zip Code.xlsx]Sheet1'!$A$2:$B$135000,2,TRUE)" LR = Range("AF" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row Range("AH2").AutoFill Destination:=Range("AH2:AH" & LR), Type:=xlFillDefault With Range("AH2:AH" & LR) End With End Sub
I have a spreadsheet with 'due date' for returns in column L and 'received date' for returns, in the adjacent column M.
I would like to get the due date to turn red when it is overdue, ie. the date in the cell has arrived and no return was submitted. By trawlling the forum, I managed to accomplish this with the following in conditional formatting: Cell value is less than or equal to =TODAY()
All's great.....but - I would like the date to turn back to black if I enter a date in the adjacent received column, column M.
In other words, I want to flag a problem if the due date has passed, but once I receive the return and enter the date I receive it, i would like the due date entry to revert back to the original formatting ie. black. So only the outstanding returns are highlighted.
In the sample worksheet, there are columns "Min", "Max" and "Average". The next 2 columns "Remark1" and "Remark2" I have formulas.
In column D "Remark1", I use this: =IF(IF(C2="",0,C2)>B2,"Ave>Max",IF(IF(C2="",0,C2)<A2,"Ave<Min",""))
In column E "Remark2", I use this: =IF(B2=0,IF(B2<A2,"Min>Max",""),IF(B2<A2,"Min>Max",""))
How can I include col E formula into col D formula, so that i do not need to type anything in col E and such that consolidated formula in Remark1 will populate value in Remark2? Will Offset formula do the justice or need a VB code to do the job,
I am currently trying to create a spreadsheet whereby if I enter certain text in a cell in Column A on worksheet 1 that correlates with text in a cell in Column A on Worksheet 2, then the description in Column B in Worksheet 2 is entered into Column B on worksheet 1.
For example, if worksheet 2 has the following:
Column A Column B XXXX PRODUCT 1 YYYY PRODUCT 2
and I enter XXXX in column A on worksheet 1, I want Column B on worksheet 1 to automatically enter PRODUCT 1.
Converting old reports to usable excel format. I am having trouble using VBA to set up a looping macro that would search Column A for cells with the text string: "ACTIVITY TOTAL". If cell has that value I would like to perform text to column action on the adjacent cell (R0C1). The macro recording for the test to column settings i need is :
I have attached a sample of what I am currently working with. The actual file has roughly 6000 lines of data, so I would like the macro to go through all lines.
I'm trying to work out how to have cells R11 - Rxx generate the correct date, based on the rest of the calculations.
Please note that the attached is a crude cut down version of the larger spreadsheet, for the purpose of highlighting my problem.
SO, if E7 is changed, subsequently the values in K11:Rxx will be respectively updated.
D12 and G12 are entered manually. (although I'll probably make these drop downs or date choosers at some point...)
Depending on the value in E7 and time in D12, the required break period is listed in K11: Kxx.
The time that these periods of rest are required to occur before is then calculated and listed in O11:Oxx.
I need R11:Rxx to calculated the appropriate date from these calculations, relative to the date in G12.
For example, the rest required in K11, is required on the same day, as such it need to populate with the value in G12.
However the rest required in K13:Kxx, is required by a time (O13:Oxx) on the following day - G12+1
In some case, this time variance could run over 2 or more days.
I figure it's got something to do with the value in D12 also including the date of 0/1/1900.
I'm happy to add hidden cells for formulas/results to work around it, as the end product will print as an A4 document, where many cells will be locked. Would prefer not go with any VBA unless it's my only option as I haven't done any VBA stuff as yet.
NB (the value in P5 is static only in this example)
I'm creating a configuration tool for instrumentation that has several options. Many of these options are dependent on one another. To summarize, I need to:
*Conditionally lock cells (and populate with "N/A") OR allow selection from drop down list - the list exists, it's the locking and auto-population I'm struggling with
Example: If A1 = No, then B1 = "N/A" and is locked, else allow selection from drop down list in B1
I am trying to determine how to great a formula for cells E5, E6 of the attached (in pink) that says if the value of the cell above (E4) is equal to or Greater than the value of cell E10, the cell will perform the formula that I already have in E5, E6.
But what I'm trying to do is create a 5 year investment plan whereby the worksheet automatically inputs those values for me if the balance is above our minimum reserve. That way I can play with the default assumptions and see how it changes throughout the worksheet.
I need to populated a specific range of cells based on a value of any kind in a header cell. Attached is a sample of the end results. Please remember each header cells needs to determine what happens the range of cells below the header cells.
What I have In Column B, I have the datesIn Column I, I have engineers name What I need I want a macro to generate Serial Nos. (1,2,3....... n) in column A If an only if the date in column B is today's date and the engineer's name matches with the PC's username
I’m trying to make my life a bit easier, by adding a few macros and formulas to the spreadsheet (Everything was done completely manually before I got here!!!). What I would like to do is take two columns, which contain a start and end time for work shifts, and colour them GREEN once I have entered a name in the Worker column (Along side the two with the time), and also to fill a cell with a Yes or a No. I’m aware of auto conditioning, and I’ve tried to have a play to get this to work, but I just can’t work it out. I have posted a link to an image which shows what I want. I hope I've explained it well enough!
I have multiple sheets cataloging multiple vehicles' mileages in multiple areas (one sheet per month). I want to reorganize this data by Vehicle ID rather than month.
I am really stumped at this particular point in my coding. What I am trying to do is to have a user input an ID number. When they click OK, I want to find the ID number and then subtract 1 from a number that is 13 columns over. So if the ID number is "123456789" and that matches the value in A3, I want to subtract 1 from the amount in M3 (leaving the new value in cell M3). So, if M3 was 30, now it would be 29.
How would you select cell values from differing rows based on the name in an adjacent column. ie, if it says John, add that data to the source data, if not move on.
I am trying to build a staff roster. The staff rotate over a 4 week cycle. the name of the staff member, and their shift needs to be looked up from the key then matched with the particular week. the name and shift then need to populate specific cells.
I have attached the worksheet so you can see what i am trying to achieve.
