View 4 RepliesI am running a macro which ends up showing the save as dialog box. The name is correct (data) and the type is correct (XML files) but no matter what I try the file path is not right. Here is the section of
sDataFile = Application.GetSaveAsFilename("data.xml", fileFilter:="XML Files (*.xml), *.xml")
Set fs = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set js = fs.CreateTextFile(sDataFile, True, False)
Set f = fs.GetFile(sDataFile)
sFilePath = f.parentfolder & ""
Set f = Nothing
How do I set the file path? I have already seen lots of answers to this but they are based on changing the path permanently or on there being no dialog box already open. I need total automation with the user not being able to see any of the save process.
I am using Excel 2010. I have a user form with a date picker on it. I simply want to transfer the date chosen to cell A3 on a sheet. I have two problems. When I click the date picker, it doesn't show all the days of the month. When I do pick a date, it isn't transferred to the sheet. This is the code I am using in the user form:
VB:
Private Sub DTPicker1_CallbackKeyDown(ByVal KeyCode As Integer, ByVal Shift As Integer, ByVal CallbackField As String, CallbackDate As Date)
meetdate = UserForm2.DTPicker1.Value
Sheets("MeetData").Range("A3").Value = meetdate
End Sub
I have an excel 2003 template containing a userform that is displayed using the workbook_open event.
The userform causes excel to crash with file/path error 75. i have tried many suggestions given on ozgrid and several other forums with no joy.
When the userform crashes, the debugger stops on DataFormNew.show.
I have added stop commands in the initialise procedure to see what is going on and it appears that my userform has disappeared!
to upload the excel template and any other information required to get this sorted.
its size is 765 KB which exceeds the size limit to attach to the post.
here is the workbook_open macro:
Private Sub Workbook_Open()
'On Error GoTo MyError
'Call UnProtectAll
'Dim frm As UserForm
'For Each frm In UserForms
' Unload frm
'Next
The attached spreadsheet is as simple as it gets - a single userform with a combo box that allows 1 of 4 choices. It gets loaded and displayed in the workbook_open() event - or at least it should - but 9/10 times i get the message "Path/File error" and debug crashes out on the userform.show line. The next time I try and open the file (despite not saving it) Excel crashes and closes! Even re-starting Excel does not allow the file to be opened!
If, however, I open the file with macros disabled, and go into the VBE and manually run the workbook_open() all works fine. I'm using Excel 2003 and I've tried it on other installations - sometimes it will work, other times not.
I've tried every combination of userform load, unload, hide & show with similar results.
I want to open a specific sheet and refresh only said sheet when i open another sheet for example x.xls
So opening x.xls will automatically open y.xls
I've tried this in the workbook code area but it doesn't do anything.

When loading my workbook, my userform loads perfect, but when I go to hit the "next" button. It crashes with the error:
"Path/File access error."
The next button code, quite simple: ....
I have two userforms (for simplicity we'll call them UserForm1 and UserForm2). When pulling up data on UserForm1 and selecting CommandButton1 is Unloads the current form and passes the ComboBox1 on the form to a public variable called lSection_Choice. When CommandButton1 on UserForm2 is selected, it uses the public variable lSection_Choice to determine the ListObject on a worksheet and then locate the last row in the first column of the listobject and input the value of the TextBox1 on UserForm2. It runs through without any errors but the worksheets do not update? I am guessing it's because the modal UserForm2 is set and not focused on the worksheet.
Here is the code to pass the public variable
Code:
Private Sub AddTeam_Click()
lSection_Choice = Me.ComboBox1.Value
Unload Me

I'm trying to use vba open a new workbook and then edit it. But i can not select cell in the new workbook. but it can be activated!
it can open the file (fname) and activate the sheets (sName), but will flage an error on range select.
Workbooks.Open fileName:=fPath & "" & fName
Workbooks(fName).Sheets(sName).Activate
Range("A8").Select
I have a master workbook that is referencing data from several other workbooks whose file names are based on the years data was taken. In the master work book on any given sheet, I would like to be able change the data being used in the formula calculations by simply changing the year value in a single cell. By changing the date value, the formulas are directed from one data workbook to another.
e.g. in the master workbook in Sheet1, if you enter 2008 into cell A1, all of the formulas in Sheet1 now pull values from 2008.xls; if 2008 was replaced with 2009 in cell A1 on Sheet1 of the master workbook, then all of the formulas on Sheet1 would now pull values from 2009.xls.As I am completely new to VBA (bought my first book last night), I am looking for any help that is out there. I am not entirely new to programming (used C++ to write numerical simulations) but I have zero experience writing macros and the like.
how I could perform a simple file path check using excel.
For example:
File Path
Exists
C:ImagesMatrix.png
Yes
C:ImagesCubic.png
No
How can I change this;
Code:
Sub GetData_Example4()
Dim SaveDriveDir As String, MyPath As String
Dim FName As Variant
SaveDriveDir = CurDir
MyPath = Application.DefaultFilePath 'or use "C:Data"
[Code] ....
So that it still prompts the user for the path but limits their selection to only Excel files and only those named 'Roles'?
I would like to have a macro button that will open the file location (path were the excel is stored) in MS explorer.
I found something like:
Sub ExplorePath()
Shell Environ("windir") & "Explorer.exe " & ActiveDocument.Path, vbMaximizedFocus
End Sub
But that give the error that an object is needed. Would that also work for MS Word?
is it possible to configure Excel in order to save the Hyperlink path for a file with absolute path and non relative?
I notice that the hyperlink is ....pdf ry.pdf
if I change the position of the file excel there is a problem!
I would like to save es. d:invoichepdf ry.pdf
I have a variable ("DestFile") that defines a path to a file (used in saving the file)...
I'm in the process of getting a Sub to hyperlink to this file, but in some circumstances, I may only want to hyperlink to the folder, not the actual file...
How would I go about trimming the "DestFile" address to get a "DestFldr" address?...
An example of "DestFile" might be;
S:BryanFor KenGulf ConstructionST0609014-t.xls
(the file name length may vary)
What code can I use to consistently trim it back to;
S:BryanFor KenGulf Construction
as the "DestFldr" variable?
I am trying to open excel files in a file path which includes folders which also have excel folders i wish to open there are quite a few.
At the moment i am working with this code but it fails to open excel files which are within the folders in the specified file path. Its fine for excel workbooks in the folder specified by file path.
This is the code
Sub RunCodeOnAllXLSFiles()
Dim lCount As Long
Dim wbResults As Workbook

I want to run a macro to separate File Name and Path from the given complete path
For Example
Code:
In Column A : Given Complete Path " C:MainFolderRecordsSubFilesFile1Record.pdf
I need it separeted like
Code:
In Column B :File Name = Record.pdf
In Column C :File Path = C:MainFolderRecordsSubFilesFile1
Is there any way to do this through a macro
I have created a userform with multipage, has two page that add new record in a excel sheet. Data has a unique reference no.(TxtRef.Value) for each record. I am trying to add a button to load the added data for a specific record using reference no back to userform so that it can be updated and overwrite back to the sheet in the same row, So far it is adding new record correctly. I do not know how to populate all the fields of the of an existing record and overwrite it back to the same row instead of adding a new record. Below is my codes
[Code].....
the spreadsheet needs to be copied to a directory called "C:downloads" as it contains a ODBC query to itself (In reality, this is a query to an External Oracle Database)
On loading, it should pop up a simple userform, with a combo and two command buttons, which when pressed takes you to a (hidden) tab that displays a pivottable.
All works well until I try to close /save when 60% of the time, Excel encounters problems and closes and will not load up the file the next time until either quit excel or disable macros. Messages include "file/path access error", "I/O Error" or get restarts excel.
On a casual run through, I expect you might report back that "All worked ok for me". Please can you give it a bit of a thrashing, comment out the userform show, save the file (frequently) becuase i assure you it will break ultimately!
This is a brand-new file and I've tried it on about 5 different PC running different versions of Excel and generally get the same result.
I have an Excel sheet that I use as a mailing automatism for reports. As it currently is it attaches an actual copy of the excel workbook to the email and send them out. The mailer contains several different people, and they get different report each day. Due to the size of some of the files, I am starting to run into an issue where I cannot sent the emails anymore because they are too big, so I am wanting to switch to sending links to the files instead, and I have hit a wall.
I use Lotus Notes 8.5. The VBA will cycle through a range, and each cell has a list of report delimited by a ",". It takes the list and passes it to the mailer as a string. The mailer takes the string, turns it into an array and splits it out, and then checks to make sure the reports are current. One email could have up to 10 different reports in it. I have tried creating an HTML MIME email to include the links.
Here is the code I currently have:
Code:
Sub Send_HTML_Email(ByRef Name As String, ByRef Address As String, ByRef Reports As String)
Const ENC_IDENTITY_8BIT = 1729
'Send Lotus Notes email containing links to files on local computer
Dim NSession As Object 'NotesSession
Dim NDatabase As Object 'NotesDatabase
Dim NStream As Object 'NotesStream
Dim NDoc As Object 'NotesDocument
[code]...
I have a Userform.Which is working perfectly to send data to excel sheet.
In the userform there is command button (commandbutton1) which is used to send data to excel sheet...This only send data but it actually does not save it into excel sheet.When I close excel sheet it asks do you want to save changes?
But I need when commandbutton1 is press to send data to excel sheet , it should actually save data into excel sheet.
[Code] .....
I think this is possible but cant find anything on it ........
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a vlookup function which takes the data from a table in a closed file. A folder where the file would be located will change based on the value in the cell reference.
I used below formula which works, but every time when i drag or try to edit and enter, the path of the file path brokes and i need to reselect the path where the file is located. Is there a way where i can stop this?
Code:
=VLOOKUP(A2,'C:&E1&[Myfile.xls]Sheet2'!$A:$B,2,0)
Currently I work on a file which will be more like a form which will be filled by user and after he or she hits the button, the filled data will be written or sent to another Excel file or even Sheet in the same workbook which will store the filled data in database like form. The same as some web form which will post the data to database.
In other words, the workbook contains to sheets, one with forms to be filled in (cells) and one with specified columns. After filling in the cells on the first sheet and hitting the button, it will trigger the macro which will send data to second sheet and post data from each cell to appropriate column.
I have an master excel file with 20 sheets with names x,y,z,a,b,c,f,.... Each and every sheet has data which start from Row 7 and Column 2. Now i need to consolidate this data in one sheet in another excel file.
Consolidation should be like
Suppose X sheet has 20 rows and 4 columns of data which starts from Row 7 and Column 2, this data has to be copied and pasted in my new excel file copied on my desktop. Now first 20 rows are occupied in new excel file.
Now code should move on to master excel file Sheet Y which has 45 rows and 4 columns of data which starts from Row 7 and Column 2,this data has to be copied and pasted in my new excel file from row 21, which means Master excel file sheets has to be clubbed to one consolidated excel file.
In All the sheets in Master file Data starts from Row 7 and column 2.
Data range varies row wise in each sheet but column length is fixed to 4.
I am using some code to loop through a folder and extract some data from a specific sheet.
Now say a user moves the file to another folder etc... The macro will pull up an error, now is there a way i can have it dynamic linked to the spreadsheet so no matter what folder it gets moved to,
My folder path will adjust to that or need to take another route?
I am trying to import some csv files so I can combine them, but am having probs with the filename and location.

.Name = wsName
.FieldNames = True
.RowNumbers = False
.FillAdjacentFormulas = False
.PreserveFormatting = True

How to save a file, with file- name. but the directory is to be read in worksheet "towns" in Cell1 (brussels) and filename in worksheet "names" in cell B2 (i.e. winter), so it saves to c:russelswinter.txt as a wordpad or kladblok txt file, that keeps a number, so each time we push a button "go back from worksheet names to worksheet towns" the "number" that is saved in the txt document goes up by value +1. In Flemisch, the "old" code goes as follows, and saves the number in the txt file Factuurnummer7.txt. But I want that the file name (here: FactuurNummer7) can be a variable text issue, which has to be read - as already noticed - in cell B2 (with the word WINTER). So the are 2 worksheets: towns, ans names
pad$ = Application.DefaultFilePath
'controle = Dir(pad$ + "FactuurNummer7.txt")
'If controle = "" Then GoTo EerstAanmaken
'Open pad$ + "Factuurnummer7.txt" For Input As #10
'Input #10, Nummer1
'Close #10......................
Below is the current code I have for File Copy before the workbook closes. This file will be distributed all over and obviously will not have the same old path and new path locations as I have in my code also will not have the same file name. Is there anyway to still perform the file copy without knowing the old path and file name and possibly have message box pop up to ask the copy to location and use that in the new path string?
Sub Macro1()
Dim fs As Object
Dim oldPath As String, newPath As String
oldPath = "I:EXLDATAMC Daily" '<---Where the file is currently located
newPath = "H:South RegionOrlando Mail Services2008DI" 'Since the super shared drive is super slow we will just copy and replace this file each time before we close and of course after we save
Set fs = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
fs.CopyFile oldPath & "" & "OrlandoMail.xls", newPath & "" & "OrlandoMail.xls"
Set fs = Nothing
End Sub
