Paste Number From EXCEL To WORD And Retain Formatting
Aug 6, 2014
I am importing a data table from Excel into word. All works well except for the first column of my data, which contains numbers formatted as currency. I am using a bunch of loops to transfer the data into word, and for each cell the code looks like this:
[Code]....
Is there a way to tweak the code and preserve the formatting when I am importing numbers into word?
I tried the following code but it gives me type mismatch error:
[Code] ....

I have links between Excel files and Word files. I use these files for multiple projects. When I copy them and paste them to a new folder the new files would be linked together. For some reason this has stopped. Now when I copy, the Word file has links to the original document, not to the copied document.

I use pivot tables extensively in my job. I have several spreadsheets that feed from acess database tables to build pivot tables. Besides the fields imported from Acess, I also create calculated fields. The problem is, for both the calculated fields and the imported fields, the number formatting does not stick. I know how to go to field settings, then to number, and change the customized format. The problem is, once I take that field out of the pivot table and bring another one with a different format (say, bring a field with currency format and take away one field with a percentage format) and then bring the original field back to the privot table, the number format is gone.
This is really annoying since I work with dozens of fields, and it takes time to change the number settings every time I change fields on the pivot table, and the number of decimal places, etc. I stress that I know how to change the number formatting on fields, it's just that it excel does not remember it afterwards.
I thought that maybe the formulas in excel might allow one to include the formating, but I have not been able to find if this is possible, and if so, how to do it. So, for example, the following formula for a calculated field:
=IF(ISERROR(Contribution/'Block Hours'), "0", (Contribution/'Block Hours'))
would be nice if the formula itself could include the number formating. I tried including something like , 0.00% at the end, but it does not work.

I have about 600 Word Documents that contains information about clients. Each Word document file name is the name of the client. Example. Tom Smith. I wanted to be able to highlight all 600 word documents and paste them into Excel, so that I can press Ctrl-F to find what ever name it is I'm looking for, then click the name and the word document open. Is this possible?

I'm concatenating data in 5 cells (Author, Year, Title, City, Publisher), one of which is in italics (Title). When using concatenate (or &) the formatting is removed, and I need to be able to retain that formatting.
Example:
Col B
Aaron, M. (ed)
1999
The Body's Perilous Pleasures.
Endinburgh
Edinburgh University Press

I have a simple excel sheet with columns A (name1) B (name2) C (name3) D (name4) E (name5) F (text). A given name can only appear once in any given row.
I am looking for a vba code (Excel 2003) that would loop through cells in A1:E?? (number of rows varies, loop needs to find last non-empty row in column A) and look for a particular name (e.g. "Stefan Thomas"):
1) create new unnamed word doc
2) Put "New Annex" as a header (top right) in the new word doc
3) Insert text "List for Stefan Thomas" centered and underlined as the first line of the new word doc. The document will have two sections:
4) Insert text "Items in Column A" bolded and aligned to the left
5) Insert text "Items in Column B to E" bolded and aligned to the left below the section in 4
6) if "Stefan Thomas" is in column A, copy text in column F and paste in word doc as first bullet (below title "Items in Column A")
7) repeat step 6 for all other instances of "Stefan Thomas" in column A (append text as next bullet in section "Items in Column A")
8) If "Stefan Thomas" is in column B or C or D or E (can only appear once per row), copy text in column F and paste in word doc as first bullet (below title "Items in Column B to E")
9) repeat step 8 for all other instances of "Stefan Thomas" in column B or C or D or E (append text as next bullet in section "Items in Column B to E")
if you could indicate in the code how I can choose the type of bullet as well as space between bullets and font type

My data has various dates in column A, which I group into months using the formula "=DATE(YEAR(A2),MONTH(A2),1)" in column B. Then I format column B to show the results in the format mmm-yy. So far so good.
I then use a pivot table to count the number of entries for each month and I have formatted the date column the same way. But every time I refresh the data (which I need to do frequently as data floods in from external sources), the format of the pivot table reverts to dd/mm/yyyy and I have to go and manually reformat it again.
I've checked all the options I can think of, but cannot find any way to keep the format as I have set it. Does anybody know of a way?
I'm using Excel 2003 on Windows 2000 Professional.

I'm using the following code to insert rows in a table of data:
Code:
For i = LR To 2 Step -1
If Range("D" & i).Value Range("D" & i - 1).Value Then Range("A" & i).EntireRow.Insert
Next i
It works as expected, but as my data table is formatted, the last row inserted does not contain the same formatting as the table.

I have written some code which takes data from multiple spreasheets and formats it in a specif way. However one problem I have is getting the right data format. As you will see from the input files the date and time cells are separated into two and the macro is supposed to aggregate these together in one cell with a space in between - but I cannot manage to perfect this !!! The output is in a number format instead. I have attached the input files. The code written so far is as follows - works perfectly apart from date format that comes is in the output file once you run the code.
Dim Obj1 As Object
Dim Obj2 As Object
Dim UserList()
Sub RunMe()
Dim Str1 As String
Dim myPath As String
Dim i As Integer
Set Obj1 = CreateObject("excel.application")
myPath = "C:Test" 'please note you should a "" at the end.
Str1 = Dir(myPath & "*.xls")
Set Obj2 = CreateObject("excel.application")
Do
Obj1.Application.DisplayAlerts = False
Obj1.Workbooks.Open (myPath & Str1)
'For i = 1 To UBound(userslist).............

I have 2 sheets in one workbook; one sheet has a chart with a data table, the other contains the source data for the chart. I want to copy and move the sheet with the chart to a new workbook, but without the source data. I break all links, but then the chart's data table takes the default values and formats in the new workbook after I break the links. For examples, the source data has formats such as currency and no decimal places. However, after copying the sheet, the data table reverts to no dollar sign and decimal places. In addition, the months on the x-axis turn to numbers when the links are broken.

I am using excel 2007 - I need the extra available columns in Excel 2007 for my application.
I have a spreadsheet that has a significant amount of conditional formatting. I want to copy a range from this spreadsheet to another spreadsheet. In the new spreadsheet I want to remove the conditional formatting rules whilst retaining the actual formats those rules generated.
Format painter and "paste special - format" copies any formats as well as the conditional format rules.
Is htere a method within Excel to do this or can someone suggest a workaround?

I need to convert numbers to text in excel 2007. I have done it before in 2003, but can't seem to remember exactly what I used. I may have used some kind of conditional formatting, but not sure.
Here is an example of what I need.
If I type "7203" in a cell I want "Home Repairs" to appear. I have a list of words associated with a list of numbers and want to be able to type the number in a cell and have the word appear.

Note: Copying the content should be done, page wise only.

I have a 2007 Excel spreadsheet (saved as .XLS) with worker names in column A and error types in column B. Column B can have multiple entries (which are sometimes duplicative of each other) separated by a hard return.
What I need to do is run tallies to determine the number of errors by type for each person, counting the value every time it appears, even if it is more than once in a particular cell. The ultimate goal is to generate a formula to track the number of occurrences for all error types types for the person in Column A (i.e. one formula each to track ABC's Procedural errors, ABC's Technical errors, ABC's Admin errors, DEF's Procedural, etc) though ideally I just need a formula to calculate any one of those and I can edit it to get the rest. Here's a sample screenshot:
The COUNTIFS formula is where I started but that only seems to count cells with the value as opposed to occurrences of the value. I did find this formula in my searches but it doesn't seem to work:
=SUM(LEN(B1:B100)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(B1:B100),"Procedural","")))/LEN("Procedural")

I have an excel database where I register cases. I have in it a button that creates a folder with and ID nr that is in column A (I create new ID nr in the next row, when I press the button it will create a folder with that ID nr and inserts a blank word document in it). We have a template that we copy to the folder (depending what type of case). The idea would be that once the template is filled in and ready to print, It would take the values from the ID nr and a reference number a few cells to the right. Is it possible to tell excel to open the word document in the folder and create a PDF version with the ID nr and reference number. (there are only 2 templates, so the macro would have to look for one of the two in the folder)
The name of the templates are: "Standard" and "Other".
I guess the best way to start maybe this would be that I select the cell with the ID nr and then press a macro button to have this done.
One thing that needs to be done, is to put a copy in the same folder and another in a second folder called "Binder" in my documents folder.

I'm using a simple auto numbering command.
eg: cell A1: 1
cell A2: =(A1+1)
then shift, copy/paste cell A2 until A600,
This creates a sequential number column from 1-600. My problem lies when a new row is inserted, which is left blank. How can i maintain this auto function upon a new Row insertion?

I am trying to format a cell (in Excel 2010) as a phone number. The problemis that the data comes over from our download as text. Is there an easier way then using the 'SUBSTITUTE' function to change format to a true phone number (so that we can mail merge into WORD)? Since it is extracted out as a text, using the 'phone number' format (under special) will not work. Using the 'SUBSTITUTE' formula to remove the parenthesis', the dash and the space work but is cumbersome.
Below is an example of the text format that is being extracted: (706) 378-7585
