I'm trying to use data validation to restrict the user to only selecting values in a list which I create. Right now, the list is a named range. I'd like to get rid of the range and just use a named list. I create a name using the following as my list.
Insert > Name > Create Name: Fruit
Refers to: banana,apple,orange
When I try to use the name Fruit in my data validation, I get the message "The List Source must be a delimited list, or a reference to single row or column." I thought my name "fruit" was a delimited list.
I have a set of unique customer names in a column A, say A1 to A200 in my data sheet. These customers have route numbers assigned to them (defined by the client) column B - B1 to B200. The route no.s are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, & 8. The column lists can be of varying lengths but no more than 500 rows. I want to relate the routes to 8 separate sheets in the workbook. In each sheet I want to extract a column of customers based on the route number. So if the first customer in column A is route '1' (column B) it populates the first entry in sheet 'Route 1' with the customer name as so on for the rest of the sheets.
- which is marvellous and gives me exactly what I want. However my test book only has this dragged down 10 rows and already it takes 20-30 seconds to calculate. The real workbook is likely to stretch to several hundred rows, and to make matters that little more complex where I have Sheet2!$B$2:$B$100 this will relate to a completely separate book on a company network.
Is there any more efficient method of creating this list or will I just have to bear with the calculation speed?
Am looking for an easy way to produce a list of combinations (maximum 6 numbers) from a range of numbers listed in 6 different columns:
Example Column A contains : 1,2,3 Column B contains : 7,8,11,15 Column C contains : 12,16,18,19 Column D contains : 17,30,31 Column E contains : 30,31,32,33,34 Column F contains : 37,39,40 The rules are:
In each combination of 6 numbers, numbers should always be taken from ALL 6 columns. In each combination, numbers cannot repeat.
I have a workbook with 2 worksheets, Sheet1 & Sheet2. Sheet1 has a list of products on it, with a code, pack size and cost.
Sheet2 has got 8 columns in it.
The first column will be A , B , C
The second will be D, E, F
Third will be G, H, I
Going right through to column 8 which will be V, W X
In the second column in each on I will be have a (sell by date) So B, E, H, through to W will have sell by dates in them.
What I am looking for is a macro that will give me a list of short sell by dates when I click the button. So if todayís date is 02/12/09 when the button is clicked it will give me a list of all the product that have lets say a month sell by date left, I would like to be able to change the month to anything I want, just in case I want to do a longer check on the sell by date.
When it finds a short date I would like it to check against the code, so in the first column the code will be in A, it will match that code up against the code in Sheet1 and give me a list of the Code, and the Product from sheet1 and the sell by date thatís in Sheet2. The problem I have is when data is put into the second column on sheet2 which is D.E.F, I would want it just to check that column and not the A,B,C from column 1.
I have a sheet that contains two values in seperate columns that I need to concatinate into one value for the drop down. If I use one value my code works but doesn't show all the values. If I use both values I get a 1004 - Application Defined or object defined error. I bolded the section that if I add I get the 1004 error. Is there some sort of restriction when creating the validate list for a drop down? My list is not reaching 65000 characters which is the string cut off.
Dim intAdEventCol As Integer, intAdEventNmCol As Integer, intRow As Integer Dim intLastRow As Integer, intLastCol As Integer Dim strAdEvent As String, strAdEventNm As String Dim strAllAdEvent As String
Do Until intRow > intLastRow strAdEvent = Worksheets(gstrcDataWorkSheet).Cells(intRow, intAdEventCol).Value strAdEventNm = Worksheets(gstrcDataWorkSheet).Cells(intRow, intAdEventNmCol).Value If intRow = 2 Then..........................
if it is possible to have a selection from a list change the list for another cell? For example, if I have a drop down list in A1 which is "Apples, bananas, pears", and I select "Apples", is it possible for A2 to have a list of "Green, Red, Yellow", and if I select "Bananas" in A1, for A2 to have a list of "Yellow, Black, Blue"?
I have a workbook that has three worksheets. The ASU Database sheet contains part numbers and descriptions including specific details that are selected from pull down data validation lists that are named on the third worksheet. I want to have a front end on the first worksheet that has similar data validation lists for the user to select from to create a search criteria that will create a worksheet with only the rows that meet this criteria. I am not sure what method to use to accomplish this.
I have attached a sample workbook, (Pricing Sheet - Major) within this work book there is a worksheet entitled Price Book which has commonly-used materials, unit prices and labour rates. What he wishes to do is use the contents of the Price Book worksheet within a worksheet called Pricing Sheet to enable him to prepare quotations.
I had the idea to first sort the items in the Price Book worksheet and then produce a dropdown list of these items for use within the Pricing Sheet worksheet and used the VLOOKUP function to obtain the values for unit prices and labour within the Price Book and use them in the Pricing Sheet worksheet.
I am creating a spreadsheet where the user enters food they have eaten that day. The way this is done at the moment is with validated list boxes, one depending on the other using the indirect function. I want to be able to make this into a user input form. Is there a way of adding these validations from the spreadsheet, to an input form. I want the input form to have an input for the day, food group, food item, and quantity of the food. The food item needs to depend on the food group.
I have been trying to figure out how to use a named range (on another sheet) to validate the user entered data in a specific column. All my attempts at utilizing worksheet_change event have ended in errors. I've created a simple workbook that shows what I'm trying to do and have attached it to this message. The 'Sample (Data)' worksheet has the data table that would be completed by the user. On the 'Validation' worksheet I have named the range to be used to validate the data as 'rngVal'. So when something is entered under the 'Expense Type' heading, the code would verify that the value entered was contained in the 'myVal' validation list. If it was not present in the list, a msgbox would instruct you to try again. After stealing bits of knowledge and code from many of the posts on this site I cobbled together the following (which results in an error at the 'set rngFind' line):
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) Dim rngFind As Range 'Set Target = Cells(ActiveCell.Row, ActiveCell.Column) Set rngFind = Range("rngVal"). Find(Target.Value) 'If data in column C changes, do the following If Target.Column = 3 Then 'If the value is found on the validation list, do nothing. If rngFind Is Nothing Then Else MsgBox "You must enter one of the following in this cell:" With Application .EnableEvents = False .Undo .EnableEvents = True End With End If Else End If End Sub
I have an Excel 2003 list with four columns as shown below:
Zipcode CRRT Count Bundles
85710 C004 693 14
85710 C005 867 18
85710 C006 1021 21
I want to "expand" this list to use in a Mail Merge program to produce tags for our direct mailing. Each bundle contains 50 letters, so in the first line on the above spreadsheet, there will be 13 bundles of 50 and 1 of 43. Currently, I can cut and paste to create the following table, but there has to be an easier way...
Zipcode CRRT Count bcount Bundle ibundle
85710 C004 693 50 1 14
So as I pull this into a mail merge I will get a tag that shows the zipcode, the crrt, the total pieces for that crrt, then number of the bundle for example " 1 of 14" and the quantity in that bundle, for example "50 of 693", then the next bundle tag will print, 3 to a page. I know that here has to be an easier way either in the mail merging process itself or with EXCEL? Am even open to build these with ACCESS to create the tags. The beginning database contains anywhere from 350 to 800 lines of original data, so as you can see the cut and paste is VERY time consuming.
I would like to be able to compare the "standards" in Column A with the Assessment status in Column B and the Assessment period in Column C in order to generate a compact list in another workbook (ideally) or tab (if not). A list might typically contain all the standards that have been M (mastered) during a given Assessment period. I realize that filters would achieve this to a large extent but I was hoping to automatically populate another worksheet or tab.
I have a table of adressess and clients with contacts ie
in the list there are about 300 entries.
what i want is to put an S in the select column on those clients i am due to visit and then these records to be exported into say a word doc to print off so i have a list of visits i have to do with company contact and addresses
I have a list of Products in my Excel file, I am trying to put them into categories easily. So what I am asking is there a way to select all rows with a certain key word in them so I can easily paste them into my other excel file?
Is it possible to restrict the values of cells in a particular column to entries defined in a list BUT to allow each cell in that column to display multiple items from the list (seperated by a comma for example). I've attached an example of what I would like to do -
In Sheet "2010 Data" I want to be able to select multiple values in column F....(the values are defined within the list named "Platforms" on the worksheet called "Lookups"
I have attached the data in an excel file here. I'd like to select (or highlight) the rows (based on names) in the table on sheet1 based on the list provided in sheet 2. I've been struggling with using a formula for this one. The list on sheet 2 may be longer than the table on sheet 1(since there are entries on the list which might not be present in the table column 2), and the reverse may also be true. I would like to select "entire rows" of names in the table that are there on the list on sheet 2, not just the names column in the table. See the desired result on sheet 3.
My wife is a teacher and she has asked me if there was a way of randomly selecting a child's name from a pre-defind list and for that child not to be selected again during that session.
Up to 35 children in the class (selected from a pre-defind list)A child can only by picked on once during the lessonA method needs to be in place for seelcting the child's name (either a button that can be pressed, or another option).
I currently have a huge data sheet with multiple columns of information. It contains a list of projects organized by columns with information pertaining to each project. I've named this worksheet data.
On another sheet I've named Present, I'm trying to find a way to reference a single project at a time using a drop down list. The Present Sheet has a list of characteristics fields that need to be filled with information from "data" worksheet. I want the characteristics to change whenever I choose another project name from the drop down list.
I've made a drop down list and when I select multiple cells and choose from the drop down list, it only fills one. Here's pictures:
So in that first picture, I've selected multiple cells. But when I drop down the menu and click my selection, this happens:
Why is it that all the cells I've selected does not fill with the option that I chose from the drop down. I highly doubt that I have to manually click all the ones I want to fill with what I choose from the drop down list.
how i can select the most recent 10 cells from a list of data to be included in a formula. I have selected it manually, for example F122:F131. This is fine but i don't know how i can put it so that it will update to the 10 most recent results when i input another line of data. So when i put in more data it stays on the previously selected. I want it to move shift down to include the new data but only the 10 most recent.
Basically on a summary page, on sheet 1 say I have a formula which picks up the unit cost (I have this as an array across 5 years)
What I then want to do is multiply this by a volume driver. I have a list of these drivers on a seperate page, so for convenience lets say DRIVER_01,DRIVER_02 etc. These are also 5 years arrays.
So what I want to do it be able to select which driver I want to use for volume on the summary, from a drop down box I have set up, and then the formula pick up that named range, and not just recognise it as a text cell.
I need the ability to change the driver in the future, hence the drop down box. I can also get the unit array part to work fine, I'm just struggling to get this driver array to work..............
