View 1 RepliesI have a file used by our employees through our local area network. Because that file has many functions and possibilities that took us a lot of time to create, I would like to protect this file so no employee can copy it to an external device without a password. It would be great, though, if the file could be exchanged or sent among employees as logn as it remains WITHIN our internal network.
Is it technically possible to protect an Excel file in a such a way?
the following scenario.
I am using the following code to save a workbook as a macro enable workbook on the selected path as today's date. But it is being saved as a macro free workbook.
Below is the code in module:
Sub save_file()
Dim tDate As String
Dim FileSaveName As String
Dim fPath As String
tDate = VBA.Format(DateSerial(Year(Date), Month(Date), Day(Date)), "dd-mm-yyyy")
'FileSaveName = Application.GetSaveAsFilename(InitialFileName:=tDate, filefilter:="Excel Files(*.xlsm),*.xlsm", Title:="Please save the file")

Is it possible to have a macro-enabled workbook to work on ios software(iphone or ipad app)? Currently I cant find any spreadsheet app that will let you have a macro enabled workbook. The code from the posts below would be great if they worked on my phone or ipad.
Scan barcode to excel with date & time stamp in & out.
I have created an Excel Workbook and this Workbook has a VBA code that enforces an expiry date of the workbook (TimeBomb from cpearson.com). So, if the expiry date has passed, the workbook will not open. But since it is VBA related, the expiry date will work only if one has enabled macros. If macros are disabled, the workbook will open regardless of the date.
So, is there a way for Excel to check if macros are enabled? and is there a way for Excel not to open the workbook, if the macros are disabled?
is it possible to protect a macro-enabled workbook with password.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm posting a workbook on our network that I want to enable users to go in and update. I have the workbook designed, with entry fields for the data they need to enter, and they then push "Submit" to submit the new data to a hidden tracking log within the workbook.
Many of the users will be complete Excel newbies, and although I haven't posted the workbook yet, I am trying to anticipate possible issues. The first that comes to mind is that the user opening the workbook may not have macros enabled in their version of Excel, and they will get a message, and can't perform the udpate. Is there a way to add a Workbook Open event that automatically enable macros in the workbook when they open it, even if it is for this workbook only?
I would like to hide the standard and formatting toolbars in excel when i enable workbook protection, however I have no idea how to get excel to realise when workbook protection has been enabled, and how to hide the toolbars in VBA also. Also i would like to know how to do the reverse (how to show tooldbars when workbook protection has been disabled)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI prtected several sheets with the xlVeryHidden command I got from you. But when the user does not allow Macros to be executed, also these protections are not executed. Does there exist any solution to this problem? Something like "when macros are not allowed do NOT open file"?
Sub workbook_open()
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
Application. ScreenUpdating = False
Application.AskToUpdateLinks = False
Windows("rechenfile.xls").Activate
Sheets("Daten").Visible = xlVeryHidden
Sheets("Koeffizient").Visible = xlVeryHidden
Sheets("Investitionen").Visible = xlVeryHidden
Sheets("Konsum").Visible = xlVeryHidden
Sheets("Zinssatz_permanent").Visible = xlVeryHidden
Sheets("Preise").Visible = xlVeryHidden
Sheets("Nettotransfers").Visible = xlVeryHidden
Sheets("Beschäftigung").Visible = xlVeryHidden
Sheets("Löhne").Visible = xlVeryHidden
Sheets("Nettoexporte").Visible = xlVeryHidden

I have been working on an excel spreadsheet and have come acrss this problem once before too. When I try to open this file it hangs and does not respond. the file size is not too big (490KB). When I disable macros i can open the same file but when the macro are enabled, it hangs. have been trying to look for a solution but just dont know what to do.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWorking with a macro enabled workbook that has many sheets what would be a good code that would save Sheet1 into a new MACRO enabled workbook so that the 'Buttons' (which are linked to macros) on this specific sheet will be the only macros that will be copied to the new workbook as opposed to the rest of the macros that are found in different sheets?

I want to save the Excel file as "Excel Macro-Enabled Workbook." Currently, File Format:=xlNormal within the VBA code and the results saves the Excel file as .xls. How do I write the File Format to save the Excel file as "Excel Macro-Enabled Workbook."
Below is an example:
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:=Left$(ActiveWorkbook.Name, (Len(ActiveWorkbook.Name) - 4)), FileFormat:=xlNormal, CreateBackup:=False

View 5 Replies View Relatedif ive got loads of data on one workbook and i want to copy it over to another it often come up with to much data or not enought memory error!
so i was thinking is there a line of code i can use and repeat automaticly that will copy each line indivdualy or maybe 10 lines at a time?
so instead of me trying to copy the entire sheet it would copy a small enought anount of lines or each cell so as not to give me the error.
the workbooks are "Exp1" Sheet2, going to "Exp2" Sheet2
the areas i need copied are all lines (starting from line 5 down) in cells from A to Z.
if there are any simple steps that can be taken to reduce the size of an Excel workbook short of deleting information. I have an Excel file which is taking to long to open and save. The file size is approx 5,450kb.
The file cotains Macros, Formulae, Named Ranges and Colour formatting.
I have a workbook with 8 sheets. I have hidden two of the sheets and want to lock the rest from people editing, and stop them from unhiding the hidden sheets
I go to tools>protection > protect workbook
After typing in the password this doesnt protect the workbook as i am still able to edit the cells.
how to lock the all sheets and stop them from being edited?
I have a Workbook on a shared drive, with a button that runs a macro.
Is there a way to disable this if anyone makes a copy of this workbook, or does Save As? (If it is not the original workbook).
If the time is not less than 0.001 seconds, then multiply it by 1000, and express it in milliseconds. Otherwise: If the time is not less than 0.000001 seconds, then multiply it by 1000000, and express it in microseconds. Otherwise: multiply it by 1000000000, and express it in nanoseconds and this all has to go in a chart like this one. I was wondering what the code would be to get this
Sub MAcro3()
Function secnum(seconds)
If seconds > 0 Then
secnum = seconds
Else
Milliseconds = seconds / 1000
If Milliseconds > 0.001 Then
Value (Substitute(0.001, 0.001 * 1000))
secnum = Milliseconds
Else
Microseconds = seconds / 1000000
If Microseconds > 0.000001 Then .............
We keep spreadsheets that have several columns of data, one being "comments" which contains quite a bit of text. I needed to copy some rows off the one workbook into another. Everything copied fine except it cut off part of the comments when I pasted to the new workbook.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a workbook, 'MyWb.xls' and a sheet with buttons to which I attach some sheet macros. When I assign a macro to a button I pick the appropriate reference, e.g. Sheet2.MyMacro, and this gets recorded by default as MyWb.xls!Sheet2.MyMacro
When I create a new single sheet workbook with the instruction ActiveSheet.Copy, I end up with a new workbook, say 'Book2' along with the buttons as expected. However the macros attached to the buttons still refer to the MyWB.xls file and not the new 'Book2.xls'. As part of the process of creating the new book I've tried redefining the macro with the instruction

I have a spread sheet with tabs that are for each week of the year. Each tab shows the date on top and times (broken into 30 minute intervals) on the side; the inside has information like an event on the inside.
My goal is to keep that information there and to have a "master sheet" that holds all this information in a list format so I can filter out some information.
I have my Data on Sheet 1 as displayed below

Column E is my commmodity reference. There is 15 different commodities. So on Sheet 2 I created 15 buttons, all name according to one of the commodities.

What I am trying to do, is that when some one presses one of the buttons it must return all the data from sheet 1, but only for the selected commodity or button pressed. How do I reference my buttons to bring back only this data.

I've created a custom toolbar and populated it with a custom button. I have created a macro and it resides in ThisWorkbook. The macro is assigned to the custom button and the toolbar attached to the workbook. So far, so good. If I copy the workbook and rename it, when I click the button to run the macro it launches the original workbook and runs the macro. The macro effects changes on the renamed workbook copy. The macro name found in the assign macro dialogue starts with the original workbook name. The same effect if the macro resides in a module or sheet. Any known way to have the macro name change along with the renaming of the workbook such taht it refers to the currently opened workbook macros? Regards.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a workbook within which i have a worksheet that contains a lots of macro code (coded by me). As the workbook gets used by various people, i need to copy the worksheet and the macros across to the updated workbook, which doesnt contain the macro worksheet at all.
I have tried to copy it across by clicking on its tab and using the move or copy facility. This copies the sheet across as required. But for some reason, the macros all reference the old workbook. A small bit here for example for some reason opens up the old workbook and then performs the code in the old worksheet:
Sub SelectAll()
For i = 12 To 20
Set curcell = Worksheets("Form Generator").Cells(i, 3)
If curcell = False Then
Cells(i, 3).Value = True
End If
Next i
End Sub
As curcell is equal to worksheets...() i would have expected it to use the local worksheet, ie the one that the macro is attached to. So why is excel proactively hunting out the old workbook and sheet? is the method i used to copy across the sheet with the macros incorrect? If so, how should i go about it?
Would like to be able to have a macro button or code that launches the Microstrategy Reports dialog box.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a list of objects in column A

I have a simple list of data (Name, Room, etc.) in a spreadsheet. Each day I click on the spreadsheet tab and create a "copy" and (move to end). This creates a spreadsheet for the next day's data.
My problem is that the macro I use to sort this data never works in the newly created spreadsheet within the same workbook. As usual, I'm sure it is something relatively simple that I am overlooking.
I have a document (unfortunately I cannot attach it) in Excel 365 that each time I open it I get the usual prompt that it is calling an external link. As much as i'd love to hide the popup I need to find the link to solve to problem but I'm at a loss.
Simply breaking the links doesn't work for some reason, so I've tried updating the source to reflect the current file. No luck there.
I've searched the workbook for the name of the link in question, searching for all formula for name itself as well as variants of "[" and ".xlms".
I don't see anything in the name manager referencing that external file.
I don't recall if I copied from that particular document, I may have as it was a duplicate file. I tried looking over the cells I believe I copied from it but didn't see the reference.
I've installed Kutools and Bill Manville (MS MVP) FindLink Tool. Both of which says there is no external link.
I've looked at the compatibility checker which basically just says, yes there is an external link but give no insight on how to address.
I've tried a couple of macros, some of which crashed excel, some of which simply said that there was an external link but not how to find it. In my frustration I forgot which one that was but I'm about to try that approach again and look for that code.
