Reference Cell Based On Neighbor Cell

Feb 1, 2012

I have two work tabs, on one work tab named Task I have I have a list of Queues in B5 thru B10 in C5 thru C10 will be the start time spent in each queue and in D5 thru D10 will be the end time. I have another work tab, named Area, that will pull data from the Task work tab. What I want is for cell A1 in the Area tab to reference the B5 thru B10 cell that has the 6:00 AM start time next to it. So, if 6:00 AM is next to Queue 2 on the work tab "Task" then in Cell A1 on the "Area" tab will read/display "Queue 2". It's easy if I'm only referrencing one cell but when referrencing a range of cells B5:B10 I can't get it to work or select the Queue that has the 6:00 AM start time.

Excel 2010 :: Cell Summing Through Referencing Neighbor Cell Contents?

Feb 12, 2014

we have a Excel 2010 worksheet containing multiple tables.

Table1
ColumnA ColumnB
1 Blue 12
2 Orange 14
15
11
3 Red 10

Table2
ColumnA ColumnB
1 Blue 11
2 Black 13

On a separate worksheet we want to calculate with the first worksheet's values.

For example: Calc1: Sum ColumnB IN Table1 WHERE ColumnA = Orange

How do we do such a calculation/formula?

Change Formula Cell Reference Based On Another Cell Reference

Jan 8, 2012

How do I change a formula cell reference based on another cell's reference? I'm building a schedule that looks to a task's trigger and adds days based on that relationship. All entries in column "A" will be text and all cells in "B" will be the simple formula "=A2" or "=A3". Due date is calculated by adding the value in "C" to the preceding date in column "D". In the spreadsheet below, the trigger for "Budget set" is "Specs written" with 3 days added to the previous due date.

________A________________B_____________C_________D
1 Task___________Trigger_____________Days_____Due Date
2 Design begins__Proj OK______________10____10-Jan
3 Specs written__Design begins (A2)____5____15-Jan (D2+C3)
4 Budget set_____Specs written (A3)____3____18-Jan (D3+C4)

If the trigger for A4, "Budget set", changed from A3 to A2, is there a way that the formula that determines the due date in D4 could read the trigger cell reference in B4 so that the value in the corresponding row in column "C" is added in the date column?

Reference Sheet Based On Cell Value?

May 12, 2014

I have several worksheets and I want to summarize all of their data on the main page. The second worksheet is called Grady, the third worksheet is called Stella and the forth worksheet is called Westminster.

On the Main Page cell B1 is, "Grady", C1 is, "Stella" and D1 is, "Westminster". On B5 I need the value of cell C5 on Grady but I don't want to have to type it in as this formula will have to be carried over for several columns.

Currently I have:

Code:
=Grady!C5
In cell B5 on the main page but I want:

Code:
=B1!C5
But this only gives me #REF!

Can this be done without using VBA?

Formula For Cell Value Based On Reference Or Position

Jun 23, 2009

HTML Imagine the following table (Ax, etc is the cell position):

A1=John C1=Name D1=Date E1=Version F1=IP
A2=10/2/2008 C2=A1 D2=A2 .... ....
A3=Client version 7.01 C3=A1+5pos D3=A2+5pos
A4=172.24.3.5 C4=A1+10pos D4=A2+10pos

A6=Michael
A7=10/2/2009
A8=Client version 7.03
A9=172.24.3.80

A11=Susan
A12=2/2/2007
A13=Client version 7.02
A14=172.24.3.200

I have a table of data on the left side and I want to re-organize just like the right side. Let's take C2 as an example, the value for that cell = A1;
Now, C3 in the other hand, the value for that cell = A1 + 5 positions down;
C4 = A1 + 10 positions down;. The same type of formula applies for the remaining columns on the right. This seems like an easy solution, but it's not easy when you don't know it... :

Insert Values Based On Other Cell Value Reference

Mar 21, 2014

The first three columns of a spread sheet we use if function to insert values to these cells based on the next three column values. We have already done it using IF function. However, the same function should happen through macro by referring to the column headers.

Example 1:
If in column E header (E1) ‘Contract_Status’ and E2 cell value is ‘FAIL TO PAY’ then A2 value should be ‘No Owner’, B2 value should be ‘Terminated’ and C2 value should be ‘FTP’

Example 2:
If in column E header (E1) ‘Contract_Status’ and E3 cell value is ‘TERMINATED’ then A3 value should be ‘No Owner’, B3 value should be ‘Terminated’ and C3 value should be ‘TERMINATED’

Example 3:
If in column E header (E1) ‘Contract_Status’ and E4 cell value is ‘EXPIRED’ AND column F header (F1) ‘Contract_Renewal_Status’ and F4 cell value is ‘Cancelled by Customer’ then A4 value should be ‘No Owner’, B4 value should be ‘Renewal Cancellation’ and C4 value should be ‘cancelled’

Highlight Cells Based On Cell Reference On Another Worksheet

May 27, 2014

I am trying to find a way to automatically highlight all the cells specified by the cell references in a column on another worksheet (which will constantly have new values added).

On the attached sample, the 'Data Before' tab shows the base data before any highlighting. As cell references are added to the 'References' tab in 'column A' I want the respective cell to be highlighted on the 'Data Before' tab resulting in the 'Data After' tab and each time a new cell reference is added to the 'References' tab, the respective cell is then highlighted on the 'Data Before' tab.

I would like to have control over the highlight colour so that a different highlight colour can be specified for each date change, i.e. all cell references that are shown on the same date are the same colour but where the date changes a different highlight colour can be specified.

Variable Cell Reference Based On Minimum Difference

I have a monitoring system that records a data point with a date/time stamp several times a day at random intervals. For each reading I want to calculate the change compared to the first reading that was more than 24 hours ago, which could be anywhere from 1 to 20 rows above the current one. Hence with the timestamp in col A and the value in col B, the formula in col C, for example cell C20, needs to read something like =B20-Bxyz, where xyz is the row number of the first reading that is more than 24 hours, i.e the first row xyz where A20-Axyz >1.

VBA - Format Range Font Based On Value In A Reference Cell

Jul 3, 2009

I am preparing a model for a client that runs excel 2003. I need to change the format of a range based on the value in a cell (reference cell) that is outside the range to be reformatted.

Reference cell is a named cell with the value calculated with a Match() function, the only possible values are (1, 2, 3).

I need the VBA code to retrieve the reference cell value and apply one of three formats to the range. I believe the code for that part is something like:

Private Sub Format_Font()
Set vrange = Range("d63:r63")
Set refrange = Names("ind_agentfee").RefersTo
Set refrange = Mid(refrange, 2)
On Error Resume Next
If refrange = 1 Then
With vrange.Font
.Style = "Comma"
.NumberFormat = "_(* #,##0.0_);_(* (#,##0.0);_(* ""-""??_);_(@_)"
Else
If refrange = 2 Then
With vrange.Font
.Style = "Comma"
.NumberFormat = "_(* #,##0_);_(* (#,##0);_(* ""-""??_);_(@_)"
Else
.Style = "Percent"
End If
End Sub

I am having problems getting the proper opening statements and declarations correct and also get an "Else without Then" error with all combination's that I am attempting. I am sure that the code is mess now as I started with a recorded macro then modified it multiple times while researching the web.

Format Chart Bars Based On Cell Reference

Jan 23, 2010

I'm trying to get the bars of a chart to change colour depending on the selection from a drop down in a cell. The drop down is validated to be one of four options which changes the figures displayed in the graph using index matching.I would really like the colour to change to represent what the option being selected is.

I used some VBA code before for changing the cell colour depending on the selection made to get over the 3 condition limit. Could this be easily edited to change a bar graph colour? All of the references I can see on line refer to changing the colours of bars based on their value, I don't want to do this, more an independant cell value!

My previously used code is below:

Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim iColor As Integer

If Not Intersect(Target, Range("d9:d129")) Is Nothing Then
Select Case Target.Cells(1)

Case "Commercial Final State"
iColor = 49
Case "Commercial Interim"
iColor = 31

How To Change Absolute Cell Reference Based On A Couple Of Conditions

Apr 28, 2014

I have a workbook that contains a column, G, which includes a formula that calculates distances (based on lat, long coordinates) to a training site ("TS" going forward) from other sites within the same district as that TS. There are numerous TS's in the company, usually 1 per district (but some districts do not have a training site), and I am trying to find a way to change my distance formula that will automatically detect which site is a TS, and then calculate the distances of those other sites in that same district to their respective TS's.

As it stands, I have to manually change an absolute cell reference every time I encounter one of these TS locations in the file (designated by a "TS" in Col F), and rerun the distance formula down the column. I would hate to have to do this several hundred times.

Attached is a sample file. Again, Col G contains the formula for distance calculation, and you will notice that the absolute cell references change each time a TS is encountered -- I have been doing this manually. Additionally, I would be curious to know if there is a way to spot any Districts that lack a TS, as in District 493, and specify that in Col G.

If the Date in one of these columns (G8 to S8) match with the Date in cell G1, say it finds a match with H8, then I want to copy the range F14:F2000 and paste as values in range H14:H2000. The possibility of a match found is limited to a single columns from G to S.

Gradient Colorize Chart Points Based On Cell Reference

I have done something similar by simply graphing a group of points as a series and changing the series color. I'm looking for a more graceful solution. From the example picture attached (i would attach a workbook, but the data is sensitive), a point is charted based on two variables and colorization is attempted based on the third variable. i would find the range of the third value, assign a gradient based on the spread, and colorize each point. Countif Based On Alpha And Color Of Cell In Same Row But Absolute Column Reference

Apr 28, 2014

I am currently using a color count function to both count by color and count by color and cells containing certain characters, such as # or %. This works great.

However, I need to modify the UDF to count all the cells in a range in columns C:Z that contain alpha, AND IF the Interior.ColorIndex of a cell in column B within the same row of the counting formula equals the Interior.ColorIndex of a cell in column B within the same row of the selected cell in the range.

Basically, Column B is a header row, and I want to count the cells in a range in each column C:Z if they contain a name AND their corresponding header cell's color in column B matches the color of the header cell in the row containing the formula.

Auto Generate A Comment Box Based On A Cell Value That Has Variable Reference Cells

Jan 30, 2010

I have been given the following code and it works great. I now need to adapt it to the following scenario: In the attached sheet, the user has to select either, "Suburban" or "Squad" in row 5. If the user selects, "Suburban" I need this script to compare the values they enter in a given row to the value in column "B".
If the user selects, "Squad" I need this script to compare the values they enter in a given row to the value in column "C".

Look at row 48, for example. If the user enters, "Suburban" in cell D5 then the value they enter in cell D48 should equal "1". If it does not equal "1" then it should proceed with the adding of a comment. Conversely, if the user enters, "Squad" in cell D5 then the value the enter in cell D48 should equal "2". If it does not equal "2" then it should proceed with the adding of a comment.

Reference To Cell Column Letter By Reference To Another Cell Value

If so, let's say we store that in Cell B5. How do I now refer to a cell in a chosen Row of that same Column by reference to Cell B5 ? For example if I want to refer to Cell G33 can you refer to this Cell in some form like Cell(Contents of Cell B5;33) ??? Don't want to use R1C1 type references if possible.

Look At Data From One Cell Reference Another Cell Then Display The Results From The Cell Next To It

Jun 19, 2008

I have 2 problems relating to LOOKUP.
Not sure if Excel can perform these calculations as they could get to complex.

Problem 1
Can it be possible to have excel look at data from one cell reference another cell then display the results from the cell next to it in another cell, sort of example:

Tab 1 (Never changes)
AB
Bob1
Jon2
Fred3

Tab 2 (Dynamic, changes each week)
AB
Jon
Fred
Bob

So it would work as follows.
Tab2 column B will take Tab2 column A’s data check Tab1 column A and display Tab1 column B’s result.

Problem 2

Weekly league rank table that shows position movements week by week
Example.

Week1
1Jon
2Bob
3Fred

Week2
1FredUp 2
2BobNot Moved
3JonDown 2

Can Excel calculate/show the actual movements of league positions?

Reference Cell Based On Button Location & Determine Button Used

Mar 7, 2008

I received this code from an example I found once upon a time that was originally submitted by someone else. Right now the code enters the current date in a cell of the same row as the checkbox when it's checked. I need to revise it, or come up with something similar, that will reference the value of a cell when it is in the same row as the button (from the Forms toolbar) that is clicked to activate the macro. First of all, I don't know how to reference a Forms button in VBA.

Sub Process_CheckBox()
Dim cBox As CheckBox
Dim LRow As Integer
Dim LRange As String
LName = Application.Caller
Set cBox = ActiveSheet.CheckBoxes(LName)
' Find row that checkbox resides in
LRow = cBox.TopLeftCell.Row
LRange = "B" & CStr(LRow)
'Change date in column B, if checkbox is checked
If cBox.Value > 0 Then
ActiveSheet.Range(LRange).Value = Date
'Clear date in column B, if checkbox is unchecked
Else
ActiveSheet.Range(LRange).Value = Null
End If
End Sub

Here is some other code I already created. Unfortunately, because I don't know how to do the row reference, I had to create 25 different macros, which just bulks up the size of my file and slows it down. But here is what I'm trying to accomplish in my macro:.............

Convert Cell Reference To Worksheet Reference

Jul 20, 2014

I have a workbook with 1000+ worksheets, all of which have 3-letter names. On a master sheet, I would like to make a query of how many non-empty cells there are on a subsidiary worksheet. This works:

Code:
=COUNTA(ABC!A:A)
What I'd like to do from time to time is input in column A a varying set of 3-letter worksheet names, say

AAB
ABC
CDE

And have a formula in column B that converts this to

=COUNTA(AAB!A:A)
=COUNTA(ABC!A:A)
=COUNTA(CDE!A:A)

I've learned that simply substituting the cell references A1, A2, A3 for AAB, ABC and CDE doesn't work. What do I need to do to achieve this?
