Reference Worksheet Name In Match Index?

Nov 1, 2011

I am trying to use a match index formula to retrieve some data from another workbook...I am wondering if I can use a worksheet name as an IF condition, i.e. I want my match index formula to search the entire workbook, and return values for which there is a match, with the IF conditions being a specific code AND worksheet name.

INDEX MATCH With Rows And Columns As Reference?

Jun 11, 2014

I am trying to work on a index match but can't seem to make it work.

My look up value are on column while the data I want to show and look up array are on rows and still getting 0 results.

Is there any solution ofr this to make it work without altering my look up value & arrays to columns as well?

Excel 2010 :: Index / Match With Reference?

Dec 24, 2013

I am currently using the below formula to add values (D6:D225 on sheets Mon, Tue, ...) given the criteria is met in any cells within the two columns across the five sheets (E6:E225 & N6:N225 on sheets Mon, Tue, ...).

When the references to the columns do not randomly change themselves to #REF! it works fine however, it does this often, forcing my to rewrite the formula.

**Why does it do that and is there a way to stop it?

Also, when I do have to rewrite I am forced to do each cell individually to change the number within the quotes. I have tried to use a cell reference there but when I do Excel just gives me a "0" as if there is no data to be retrieved.

I am using Excel 2010 on a company computer with the macros blocked so no VBA.

Code:
=SUM(IFERROR(INDEX(Mon!$D$6:$D$225,MATCH("2000",Mon!$E$6:$E$225,0)),0),
IFERROR(INDEX(Mon!$D$6:$D$225,MATCH("2000",Mon!$N$6:$N$225,0)),0),
IFERROR(INDEX(Tue!$D$6:$D$225,MATCH("2000",Tue!$E$6:$E$225,0)),0),
IFERROR(INDEX(Tue!$D$6:$D$225,MATCH("2000",Tue!$N$6:$N$225,0)),0),
IFERROR(INDEX(Wed!$D$6:$D$225,MATCH("2000",Wed!$E$6:$E$225,0)),0),
IFERROR(INDEX(Wed!$D$6:$D$225,MATCH("2000",Wed!$N$6:$N$225,0)),0),

How can I modify the following formula to find the contents of reference cell, for example if the cell reference (G$3) is equal to 9 I want it to use 8 instead.

Code:
IF(ISERROR(INDEX(tra!$E$2:$E$1100,MATCH(G$3,tra!$C$2:$C$1100,0))),"",

Index Or Match Formula: When A Reference Number Is Used - It Popluates Cells From A List

Jun 6, 2006

I am looking for a formula or something - that when a reference number is used - it popluates cells from a list. Attached is a sample spreadsheet - 2 worksheets are being used - 1 is Purchase List and the 2nd is Fax Commitment. When reference no is filled in on the Fax Commitment sheet and it = the same reference no as on the Purchase List - I need it to populate the appropriate fields (in this case I have colour coded)

INDEX(MATCH Using Value From One Worksheet To Locate Data In Another Worksheet

Feb 13, 2009

Here is the situation:

On Sheet1:

A
123
456
789

On Sheet2:

D, G
aaa123, 11
bbb456, 22
ccc789, 33

I would like the function to search strings within an array on Sheet2 for a value on Sheet1 (that is, to search for 123 within the strings aaa123, bbb456, ccc789,etc.). Once a match is found, I would like the function to return another value from the same row on Sheet2 that contains the value from Sheet1 (within the string).

Can you help me?

I must use cell references for the values on Sheet1 because I am working with thousands of unique supplier numbers. In addition, all cell formats are general. I prefer to use the INDEX(MATCH combination rather than the VLOOKUP option.

Index / Match Formula Uses Cell Content As Worksheet Ref

May 15, 2014

Attached file 140515 Matchsheet.xlsx has formula that finds costs matching two criteria.

But the formula depends on me typing in the specific Worksheet Name: So to find the cost for 'Type 1' products, I enter:

=IFERROR(INDEX('Type 1'!$E$5:$F$11,MATCH($C$4,'Type 1'!$C$5:$C$11,0),MATCH($D$4,'Type 1'!$E$4:$F$4,0)),"")

I want the formula to "see" the sheet name as whatever is in a specific cell.

E.g. Cell B4 says "Type 2". The formula will be:

=IFERROR(INDEX('[WHATEVER NAME IS IN B4]'!$E$5:$F$11,MATCH($C$4,'[WHATEVER NAME IS IN B4]'!$C$5:$C$11,0),MATCH($D$4,'[WHATEVER NAME IS IN B4]'!$E$4:$F$4,0)),"")

INDEX And MATCH Function Using Dynamic Worksheet Names

Apr 9, 2012

I have an excel workbook with a dynamic dependent drop down list setup, works a treat on the first worksheet i set it up on.

However here's the problem, my workbook contains a good handful of worksheets each named to reflect the certificate on the page, i need the drop down list to work on each tab. problem is when i setup the index/match function it requires a specific sheet name to make it work i.e.

=INDEX(Table1,0,MATCH(PI!$C20,Table1[#Headers],0))

However what i need it to do is reference the worksheet name, as new ones get added and names may change, something like

=INDEX(Table1,0,MATCH(&ActiveSheet.Name&$C20,Table1[#Headers],0))

However this doesn't work, i do have a cell on each page that holds the Sheet name using the function:

=MID(CELL("filename",A1),FIND("]",CELL("filename",A1))+1,256)

But I cant even get it to use that cell as a reference in my formula.

Two Worksheets - Copy Value From One Worksheet To Another Based Upon Index Match

Apr 27, 2012

I think I could get this to work but the INDEX command is not returning an index of the row like it is documented. It is returning the value in the cell. In order to get this to work, I need to return the index of the row. I need to know what row the match found the item on because the value I need to copy is going to be in column J of that same row.

I have two worksheets within 1 excel document.1 worksheet is a hand filled and excel programmed worksheet (Name is website-upload)1 worksheet is a hand filled and excel programmed worksheet (Name is website-upload)

1 worksheet is a hand filled and excel programmed worksheet (Name is website-upload)

The other worksheet is a table from a database connection worksheet. (Name is ODBC_Products)

Each worksheet has a Sku column in it.

website-upload: Column AODBC_Products: Column B

Each worksheet has a QTY column in it.

website-upload: Column KODBC_Products: Column J

Goal: I would like to search the Sku column ODBC_Products and find a match for a sku that is listed in the website-upload sku column and then when I find that match, display the qty from the ODBC_Products worksheet to the website-upload worksheet.

Notes: I add columns and delete columns all of the time on this worksheet so I would rather do this in excel vs. a macro. I figure this can be done with something like:

Returns N/A

Code:
=INDEX(ODBC_Products!B2:B1000,MATCH('website-upload'!A2,ODBC_Products!B2:B1000,0),1)

OR

Returns an Error

Code:
=INDEX(Table_database_name_products[productcode],MATCH(A2,Table_database_name_products[productcode],0),1)

Notes:

Here is an example of what I have: [URL]

The website-upload image says Website Qty column (J). That is supposed to say column (K)

From the attached file, I am trying to match the date and time stamp (in cell A1) with that from the other data (in this example in cell E1) and return the data (from cell F1) to cell C1. So basically any date and time stamp before 04/03/09 04:00 will return a value of 44 (this value should appear, therefore in cells C1 - C30)

Index And / Or Match Formula With Multiple Match Required To Return A Value

Jan 21, 2014

See attached file, "Rate Sample Index-Match Formula".

I need a formula to return the value at the cross section of two (2) lookup values that match. This formula will be input into column D under, "RATE" on the 1st tab, "TEST FILE".

In the 1st tab, "TEST FILE" there are a series of columns as follows;

A = Service
B = From
C = To
D = Rate

In the 2nd tab, "RATES" there is a series of rates with drivers From (green) & To (blue)

The formula needs to do the following;

1. Lookup the "From" value in column B on tab, "TEST FILE" and match to column B2:B59 on tab, "RATES" both highlighted in green
2. Then Lookup the "To" value in column C on tab, "TEST FILE" and match to row C1:BH1 on tab, "RATES" both highlighted in blue
3. Then return the value at the cross section of the match "From" (point 1 above) & "To" (point 2 above) in range C2:BH59

For Example;

The rate From SYD To CBR = 0.33. I have highlighted this in yellow on both tabs to show where the formula needs to lookup the data to return the answer.

Additionally, if we were to add service as an additional lookup match how would this work?

VLOOKUP / INDEX And MATCH To Return All Values That Match

Feb 4, 2014

I have two sheets of data , sheet A and Sheet B.

Sheet B contains a column called "Name" and for each name, and for each name there are corresponding numbers. In sheet A, I have a "list of interest" in column A. What i want to do look through the data in sheetB to find a match from the list of interest and return the corresponding letters, located in column A.

I have filled out the first two rows of results that should be returned as an example.

One idea i had was to put a vlookup formula in each column result 1 to result 6 so i can catch all 6 "Serves" columns from column B, but there may be duplicates in the serve columns and vlookup only reports the first match.

Match Upper Closest Value Using Index-Match

Jan 15, 2013

I couldn't resolve the formula of Index-Match for getting the values that matches the following criteria

1) Match the "Category" of Table 1 to Table 2

2) Match the "value" of Table 1 to Table 2, if value is not present in Table 2 take the upper closest value.

Once the above conditions are met, Take the Result from Table 2

Table 1 is for Input and Table 2 is for Database.

Please note that Data in Table 2 should not be sorted in any way. I tried to use the -1 option of the Match function for upper closest value but it didn't work out.

3d Reference In An INDEX Formula

Aug 12, 2009

i'm trying to search throgh multiple sheets using an INDEX formula.

=INDEX('12.31.09:11.15.09'!$AF$14:$AG$75,MATCH(E$2,'12.31.09:11.15.09'!$AC$14:$AC$75,0),MATCH($B61,' 12.31.09:11.15.09'!$AF$12:$AG$12,0))

In short, these are timesheets; in a separate sheet i'm using the above formula to find how many hrs were worked on all the other sheets for a given job# within a given date range. (in the above example, i'm only searching in timesheets between 11/15 and 12/31, but I will ultimately change that to include the entire year '12.31.09:01.15.09'). E2 is a referenced job number; B61 is a referenced date.

I'm getting a !VALUE error.
Can a 3d reference work inside an INDEX formula?

Index To Return Range Reference?

Mar 3, 2014

I'm trying to lookup two dates in a column in order to provide the start and end point of an array for use in the PERCENTILE.INC function.

I can't quite get it working, my base idea is something like;

PERCENTILE.INC(INDEX(A1:A10,MATCH(C1,B1:B10,0))&":"&INDEX(A1:A10,MATCH(D1,B1:B10,0)),0.95)

So this looks for the dates found in C1 and D1, finds them in B1:B10, and returns the corresponding cells in A1:A10 for the array part of the PERCENTILE syntax.

I think the issue is that the lookup will return the value in A1:A10 rather than using the cell reference for the PERCENTILE.INC function...
