Removing Coma Delimitation, Inserting A Space?
Aug 5, 2009
I have a huge data file that must unfortunately be mandatorily downloaded in a single column format, with coma delimitation for each separate piece of data instead of a space, as follows: 08/04/2009,158,7,1849,1184,824451,403711
What I need to do is put each of the bits of data (coma separating each bit) into a separate column, so that each piece may be further processed. Is there a simple way to do this? Would be happy just pasting the data to a new worksheet, if there was a simple way to remove the coma, create a space between each number, and automatically place each piece of data into a separate column.

I have a set of data in a column and I'm trying to add them but can't because of the way it was imported. Each cell has a number with a space at the end. How do I remove that space without having to manually go in there and deleting via F2 > backspace, F2 > backspace, and so on.

Our system, when displaying times adds a space before the time, space05:14:15 - space14:56:39, When I use this formula, =(F292-E292+(F292<E292))*24-0.5, to figure out hours worked, it does not work. If I remove the space, the formula works fine. Is there an easy way to automatically remove the space instead of having to do it manually?

I am trying to create a macro that will create a comma and space between every 5th character within a cell. that would be preference #1. What I decided to go with for now, instead, is to try (using the macro recorder) text to columns, fixed width, and do this after every 5th character, and selecting each cell to be formatted as text.
What I am having difficulties with is trying to tell the macro which cells to touch and which ones not to. I do not want the macro to do text to columns and fixed width on simple text. I only want it to do the macro when it is a string of numbers that, during transfer from PDF to excel, have been concatenated into one cell. I also want the macro to do this for infinite number of rows. I have excel 2007.
I am attaching a small excel file with examples of data I am working with. I have saved this excel file as a 97-2003 version for those who do not have 2007. As I stated, if anybody can help me figure out how to do a simple insert comma space every 5th character where information has been concatenated, that would be preference. Also, I am not trying to change anything within column A. Only column B. On the sample file please note B3 - B6. Rows 5 & 6 are fine as they are. Other problem rows include B11 - B13

I have a file of names that has some undisplayable characters. I am trying to match against a different file. It works if I overtype the "blank" fields with a space. How can remove these trailing problem characters whatever they are? I tried CLEAN and TRIM and the mystery characters are still there.

I need to create a spreadsheet that has approximately 1000 rows with the same exact information in each of them prefilled (as I use the "drag-down" method). I use this chart throughout the year to enter various bits of data in each row. I also use conditional formatting in each row. The company I work for wants to have an empty space between each row.
"
You can create the blank rows separately and then interleave them with the existing rows by sorting. To start, insert a new column to the left of the existing column A. Enter 1 in cell A1 and highlight column A all the way to the last row that contains data. From the Edit menu select Fill | Series and click on OK. Column A should now contain numbers from 1 to the total number of rows. Press Ctrl-C to copy these cells to the clipboard, click in the cell just below the last of them, and press Ctrl-V to paste. Now highlight the entire data area, including the new rows with just a number in column A. Select Sort from the Data menu and choose the No header row option in the resulting dialog box. Under Sort by select Column A, under Then by select column B, and click on OK. Finally, delete column A. You now have a blank row after every one of the original 1,000-odd rows."
This works great for the data that I copied (with the drag down method) to all the rows. However, this method does not insert an empty line in between all the conditional formatting I have throughout the spreadsheet. This is my conditional formatting formula I have "manage rules" which is under "conditional formatting" =NOT(ISBLANK($A6)) (*please take note that this is selected for 1000 rows.) Maybe there is some kind of change in the formula that I need in order for the conditional formatting method to be copied onto every 2nd line of the 1000 rows".

I have several lists of hundreds of emails that I need to list in an email string via Lotus Notes. I need a space and comma in between each name, ex:
john.doe@dm.com, john.doe1@dm.com, john.doe2@dm.com
I am using the below formula manually but it is taking too long. How to automate this? Is there a way to create the space and comma for as long as the list is?
=CONCATENATE(B6,", ",B7,", ",B8,", ",B9,", ",B10,", ",B12,", ",B13,", ",B14,", ",B15,", ",B16,", ",B17)

I am operating Excel for Mac 2011 version 14.4.2
I have a list of 1500 addresses in a column, something like, 5VistaTerrace, and I need to insert a space between the number and each of the words so that it reads 5 Vista Terrace in the cell.
All of the addresses are different, some with 4 or 5 words like 5ABrownBayCourt... that particular one I would want to read 5A Brown Bay Court in the end.
Is there a formula or excel trick I can perform to save me the time of manually adding the spaces?

I need a code that when i place a date in a cell D10 (Example:25-January-2013) it will then add 40 days of dates daily to AP10.In D9 can it also add the weeknumber (every 7 days the weeknumber increases by 1) corresponding to the day date in D10 (iso).Can this be attached to a button.Enter the date in D10 then press the button and the dates auto insert across the sheet daily to AP10.
Can the button say ADD DATE or REMOVE DATES.First date in D10.When the button says REMOVE dates all dates deleted when button pressed and cell D10 then says "add date here".If no date is placed in D10 and ADD DATE button is pressed a warning messagebox appears and says NEED TO ADD DATE .Will not work until date entered.When date entered in D10 "Add Date Here" disappears until REMOVE Date button is selected and again "Add Date Here" is displayed....not sure if this is possible but would be good if achieved. I am trying to write a VBA application within Excel to go through all Lotus Notes e-mails in a specific directory and save the attachment to a specific directory, remove the attachment and insert text into the e-mail in the spot the attachment was located that states "The attachment has been removed".
I'd also like to insert a 1KB text file into the e-mail that would be called "File Removed.txt" that would still allow you to quickly find the e-mails that had attachments because the little paperclip would show up.

When presenting spreadsheets to suppliers for markup and corrections it would have space for them to write or make handwritten notation between rows on the printout. I've tried using alternate rows in Excel, but after a sort, Excel groups them all together again.
Is there a convention for adding space between rows?

When using SUBTOTAL for counting values in a column, well this function is counting also the blanks cells having space inside
Well i can use an COUNTIF to avoid this problem, but when using autofilter , the count is gone, that's inconvenient.I can use autofilter to select blanks and then delete space inside but is quite long.
I chopped a macros inspired by jindon:
Sub SpacesBlanks()
Dim X As Integer
Dim r As Range
X = CLng(InputBox(Prompt:="Quelle colonne?"))
If (X < 1) + (X > Columns.Count) Then Exit Sub
lastRow = ActiveSheet.Cells(Rows.Count, X).End(xlUp).Row
For Each r In Range(Cells(1, X), Cells(Rows.Count, X).End(xlUp))
If r.Value = "" Then
r.Value = ClearContents
End If
Next
End Sub

At the top of my spreadsheet I've got the date displayed using TODAY(). In 'G5' theres a proposed collection date.
In 'F5' I entered, =IF(G5>$D$1+1,"PENDING","NOT COLLECTED"). Which is fine except, if 'G5' is blank I want 'F5' to be blank also. And if a date is removed from 'G5' I want 'F5' to be blank. I've tried various things with "" but I cant get it to do what I need. I'm sure this is very easily cured, but not by me clearly..!

I'm trying to automate the importing and processing of a fairly large formatted text file (~15000 lines) containing many tables of data. I've been refining this process for several months and recently was alerted to a problem. A few of my tables have widths greater than 255 characters (309 to be exact).
My process involves opening the text file in Excel then performing a .Copy on the Worksheet into ThisWorkbook, naming the sheet "Source". I then perform up to 66 separate parse operations on the various tables depending on which options a user selected from a form.
The problem is that I assumed that the Copy Method would simply make a duplicate of that sheet in ThisWorkbook. Instead, it seems to have truncated any columns that are longer than 255 characters, leaving me with partial data in a few tables.
My workaround was to perform a TextToColumns on the text file prior to the import such that it would simply split the data into columns that could be reassembled on the other side. In doing so, I seemed to have stripped a leading <space> from each cell which was apparently put there previously. This is causing a lot of problems for my formatting code which also uses TextToColumns to separate the tables into columns. The simplest solution seems to be trying to add the spaces back in, assuming there isn't a better way to import this data in the first place.
Just prior to copying the sheet into ThisWorkbook, I'm using the following code after the TextToColumns to add the space back in, but it's taking an awfully long time and causing a noticable time delay in processing my code and adding considerable size to the finished workbook it creates. If someone could recommend a better solution, either to the import process or to replace this God-awful loop, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
Application. ScreenUpdating = False
For i = 1 To 65535
wkbk.Sheets(1).Cells(i,3).Formula = " " & wkbk.Sheets(1).Cells(i,1).Value
wkbk.Sheets(1).Cells(i,4).Formula = " " & wkbk.Sheets(1).Cells(i,2).Value
wkbk.Sheets(1).Cells(i,1).Formula = wkbk.Sheets(1).Cells(i,3).Value
wkbk.Sheets(1).Cells(i,2).Formula = wkbk.Sheets(1).Cells(i,4).Value
Next i
wkbk.Sheets(1).Range("C:D").ClearContents
Application.ScreenUpdating = True
Also, I don't know how long the actual file will be, so I'm almost forced to assume 65535...
