I have a spreadsheet where cells L4 W4 have headers (no spaces in this range), e.g. Cust1, Cust2, Cust3 etc... etc...
Column C contains product names ....
Each product will have a value under each heading (but not all), e.g. Product A = Cust1:10 Cust2(blank) Cust3:4 Cust4(blank) etc... etc...
What I need is a formula that looks along the row for each product and returns the header name if there is a value. Therefore, in the example above the formula result would be Cust1Cust3 ....
Hi, I desperately need help with a pivot-table and can't find anyone else who's ever had this problem...I have a very large healthcare data table which for simplicity I will describe as follows. In essence the first two columns respectively are (A) location and (B) month. Let's say the third column (C) is the number of cases of the disease kidpox treated in each health centre during that month. The fourth column (D) is the total number of cases of everything treated during that month in each clinic. The fifth column (E) is the proportion of cases of this disease over all consultations for each health centre and month, and the formula in E2 is .....
I'm using WinXP with Excel 2003 - I have a column of highway sign description data (16k+ rows).
Example:
Curve Arrow Right Curve Arrow Left Turn Arrow Reversing Curve Arrow Right Winding Road Arrow(plus many more unique entries)
I'm using SUM and COUNTIF to total the number of times "Curve", "Reversing", "Turn" and "Winding" appear in the column.
My formula is: Code: =SUM(COUNTIF($F11:$F16196,{"*CURVE*","*REVERSING*","*TURN*","*WINDING*"}))
Which works great EXCEPT what I really want is the number of cells with any of those key words, not the total count of those words. The example above should be 5, but since row four contains more that 1 of the key words I'm getting 6.
I have text strings containing 3 commas at all times (see below for example). All instances of the commas are names at either end of the comma (Last, First). My request is how would I be able to retrieve *only* the 2nd and 3rd names (in separate cells) and omitting the rest of the text?

What I want the output from a formula(???) to do is put every 'Play Date' for each 1st, 2nd, & 3rd column for every number from 0 to 9. So under Column A for zero and 1st I want every date that is listed in the source table in column 1st to list out. All I can get is the first instance of a date and nothing else.esn't use that would be great.

I'm working with an excel worksheet that uses a TFS plug-in to retrieve tree-structured data from a TFS database. Each item has a "Title" depending on it's position in the tree, in some cell between "Title 1" and "Title 9" inclusive.
Currently I display the title in a new column on the same sheet as the TFS data using the formla below. Since custom columns do not automatically get applied to new items in the TFS list after refreshing, I have to click in a cell and apply to all rows everytime I refresh.
On a different sheet I have a pivot table which contains the work item "ID". What I'd like to do is just be able to retrieve the title for each work item in a column on the sheet with the pivot table, using index/match to find the row, and then return the title from the first non-blank title cell.
Current formula on the TFS sheet (note that '@' indicates "this row", and I've replaced the long table name with "TFSData")
The database is for a Prison, and an obvious item to search for on a userform is Prison number. I have a serach option that generates an array listing in a listbox, selecting that item then populates the userform - no problem.
The problem occurs when an individual has more than once instance that has been recorded, is it possible to have more than one row generated in a listbox that can be selected, I only want indiviudal rows selected. The coding I am using for one of the single instance listbox is etc etc etc has been used to demonstrate that the coding continues to the length of the array requied

I have a data set with the weeks of the year as my column headers and a value of 1 (from a pivot table) in a distinct row value (removed for privacy) showing whether it existed in a given week based on pre defined criteria. What i need to do is ID the first (from the left) non blank cell in each row and then return that cells column header. I then need to do the same for the last (from the left) non blank cell in each row and then return that cells column header. On the attached I've put values in column N and O to show an example of what I need to return using a formula.
i have a spread sheet which has a very complex simulaton in it. excel is not the ideal place for it, but it is not possible to port it wholesale to something more sensible. i have modified the code so that it is possible to run two copies of the spread sheet (in two seperate excel processes) at one time. Due to the dual core nature of the machine this has almost no overhead.
I have created a controlling spread sheet that is cabable of launching multiple copies of the simulation and starting the code executing. the problem is the controlling spread sheet always waits for the code to return before it continues, hence it would open two seperate versions of excel, start the first simulation executing and then wait until it completes before starting the next one. is there any way of starting a function in another work book without waiting for the execution to complete?
Assume you have a rectangular range. Say A1:M18. There are values in some random cells (any number of cells) within the range. The rest of cells are blank. In cell M19 (ie cell below the bottom right corner of the range), I need a excel function that returns the nearest (ie physical location) non blank cell value. I have searched the internet for weeks. The closest formula is the following (see below) but it is flawed as it returns zero if there are values in rows below the row of the nearest cell with non blank...and also zero if there is value in a column greater than the column of the nearest cell with non blank.
Closest formula so far: INDEX(A1:M18,LARGE(IF(ISBLANK(A1:M18),"",ROW(A1:M18)),1)-ROW(A1:M18)+1,LARGE(IF(ISBLANK(A1:M18),"",COLUMN(A1:M18)),1)-COLUMN(A1:M18)+1).
And the function should be relative not absolute as the range can be extended..but the location of the formula remain same relative to the array size. (ie. always at below the right bottom cell).
NOTE: Ignore the special case where two non blank cells are the nearest. That will not happen.
I am using Excel 2010 and I am trying to average the amount of days in a month to a daily average per person in my worksheet.
Total sales per person A5 = 10 - This is the Grand total per person for column A A6 =4 A7=6
Daily average per person C5=2.6 - Average for all persons here C6=2.0 C7=3.0
The formula I am using is:
=(SUMPRODUCT($A$6:$A$15,C6:C15))/$A5
Which gives me an answer of 2.6 in cell C5 as shown above which is what I am wanting.
Please note that my cell range for my staff goes from 6-15 for both Column A and C where the other cells are blank in both columns.
My question is, If I was to clear all the data in both Columns A6:A15 and C:6:C15, cell C5 would return to a #VALUE. How to I change the formula so that if the cells were Blank, cell C5 would also be blank until I enter data for each person again?
Basically, I have a table with rows as person, and variables as features. If a person meets a feature, the that cell writes 'X', now, I hope to create a master variable that capture all the features, basically counting how many features a person has met. For example, Joe has three features; "have balls," "cool guy", "good with ladies". In the cell in question would be "X" "" "X". And if I count, then it should be 2.
I am creating a tracking spreadsheet where i can toggle between months (attached). It returns data properly when I select January or February from the yellow highlighted dropdown list. However, when i choose March, it returns 1/0/1900 because no data has been entered for March (table array) on the AAAG tab. How do I write the formula to return a blank cell on the summary sheet when no information has been entered into the table array yet?
Find Multiple instances of Numeric Criterion in Row & Return To a Single Column.
I have a Dynamic Named Range "Data" spanning 10 Columns and many Rows. Each Row may contain duplicates of the Numeric Criterion.
I would like to find ALL instances of a specific Numeric Criterion across each single Row in the Dynamic Range "Data" and have the Results returned to a New Sheet in a single column.
NEW Sheet: The Numeric Criterion is housed in G5. The matched criterion should be returned to the New Sheet starting at G7. Duplicate instances in the same Row should ALL be returned to the same cell in Column G on the New Sheet.

Scenario: Looking for Numeric Criterion 1 (one).
Expected Results - New Sheet: Row No.7 Column G (Cell G7) 1111111 Row No.8 Column G (Cell G8) 1
In Row 76 of the Sample Data ALL seven Numeric Criterion of 1 (one) should be returned to the same cell G7. In Row 77 of the Sample Data there is only one Numeric Criterion of 1 and it should be returned to cell G8.
I like to think that I am pretty good on Excel 2003, can't stand 2007 but hey thats for another thread.
I can do most forumulas and write some pretty elaborate macros, but one thing I am trying to do has completely stumped me.
Each month I compile a Pivit table that shows by day if a product was in stock or out of stock, this is represented by a blank cell (in stock), "1" Out of stock.
All this is fine, but I want to be able to show the number of instances that a product was out of stock in any given month...
in one column of my spreadsheet and it is returning the correct concatenation for the appropriate lines. However, I wish to have the column's cells return an answer of blank (" ") if B15, B16... etc is blank. In other words, at the moment, a correct answer would read something like '1810sd0000' C10 and B15 used, while an incorrect answer would still display '1810', but I want it to be a blank cell.
I have a workbook consisting of two sheets: a Monthly Class Schedule (Divided into five one-week blocks. Each block's vertical is Mon to Fri, the horizontal is 9 class slots. There are 45 class slots pw). Each class has one student and the cells are filled 'Student Number, First Initial, Surname' eg, '666 J Smith'. Students may be scheduled for several class slots per week and some class slots have no students scheduled. When the student attends a 'P'is added at the beginning of the cell eg,'P 666 J Smith'.
The Student Attendance Report has the students listed vertically on the left, arranged by Student Number, and then a column for each week.
At the moment I have to manually count the classes each student has attended for each week and enter the attendance figures in the appropriate week column. It's a PitA so I want to automate the process by using the S#s in the Attendance Sheet to search the week blocks in the Schedule Sheet for 'P S#' and auto-fill the week columns in the Attendance Sheet.
I have a sheet where in one column, the word "high" will be repeated. I need to find these multiples and then list down in a seperate column the text relevant to each of those multiples (contained in an adjacent cell). I.e if A1 & A3 hold the text "high", take the corresponding values in b1 & B3 and list them in new column C (C1 & C2 continuing in sequential order). I have searched the forums but i can' t seem to find anything.
Any method to determine the number of instances a value ("4" for example) appears next to a specific value ("x" for example). I don't have a workbook; I'm just looking for any formula that can search for specific values and find the total number of instances that an adjoining cell contains data.
However, I want to ignore the "" cells and the truly blank cells... However, I think all of them will have "" since I have this formula in all of the ones I'm putting in the range:

How do I go about getting these results into a named range so I can use it on validation since validation only seems to ignore truly blank cells and not the "" ones.
I can't modify my formula to leave blank cells blank when dragging it down, Also, I've got two formulas that i need to combine. Please view the comments I've put in cells E4, F2,F3,H2 and I2 to understand clearly what am seeking. See the attached worksheet.
I have sporadic cell values in a column. I will be describing the lamen logic I use to fill in these blanks manually. Find the first nonblank cell in the column, then look for the next nonblank cell in the column. I count the number of blank cells in between. If even # of blank cells, then I give the first half of the blanks the value of the first nonblank cell and the second half of the blank cells the value of the next nonblanck. If odd # of blank cells, then I do the same with the exception that the odd cell that falls in the middle will be randomly designated the value of the either first or second nonblank cell.
But I dont want it to count the cells if the entire row, within that cell, i.e. C6:AD6, is blank.
It should only count the blank cells within a row if there has been some data entered on that row..provided it has been entered within the specified range.
I am looking for an IF statement that would leave a balance cell blank if both the revenue and expense cells are blank, otherwise a formula would be calculated.
I presume this is fairly simple to do, since it's certainly easy enough to do manually by filling in a couple of rows and dragging them down, but I need it to be performed in a macro that I can run before other macros run.
What I need specifically is for the macro to go to G1 and insert the number .01... Then go to G2 and insert .02... Then G3 and insert .03... And repeat this until it finds the first non-blank cell ( row number this occurs at varies), at which point it ends and does nothing to that populated cell or any other cell in the column thereafter (including other blanks farther down).
Here's what I'm attempting to do: For each column, X,Y, Z, I am attempting to count nonblanks. However, the data was imported from Access and Oracle, and Excel treats what appear to be blank cells as nonblanks. I've tested this theory by highlighting a couple of "blank" cells and deleting them, and my count changes. So, can I get Excel to put a value into my "blank" cells, so then I could filter it out, or create a formula that would only count dates in my columns (which is what I'm after).
