Counting The Number Of Instances Between Blanks Cells?

I like to think that I am pretty good on Excel 2003, can't stand 2007 but hey thats for another thread.
I can do most forumulas and write some pretty elaborate macros, but one thing I am trying to do has completely stumped me.
Each month I compile a Pivit table that shows by day if a product was in stock or out of stock, this is represented by a blank cell (in stock), "1" Out of stock.
All this is fine, but I want to be able to show the number of instances that a product was out of stock in any given month...

I would like to count the number of instances of different schedules shows in one department. For example for dept. 1, I would like to know how many different schedules are in that dept. I have 48 schedules and 60 departments (numbered 1-60). I would like to know how many "different schedules" dept 1 has and so on. I don't think the frequency function will work. Is there a way I can use sumproduct to get the result I'm looking for? The information is on a separate worksheet in colums (Col. A holds the dept and Col. B holds the relative schedule).

I found the following formula online while searching for how to count unique instances of a number in a list. The list may have blank cells or repeated numbers but this formula works. =SUMPRODUCT((A1:100<>"")/COUNTIF(A1:A100,A1:A100&""))
So my question is...can someone verbally explain just exactly what is going on? i.e. I don't understand the <>"" in the sumproduct argument or the &"" in the second argument of the countif.

I wanted to count the number of instances that Matt's been late. If there are consecutive timestamps (ex. 600-620, 620-640) that he's been late, I wanted Excel to display 1 and then I'll just sum it up. Or if Excel can do this directly, add all the instances because what I actually need is the total per person.
In this example, I would need a result of 4 instances.
tell if the blank cells will affect the formula or if I still need to do something about them.

Any method to determine the number of instances a value ("4" for example) appears next to a specific value ("x" for example). I don't have a workbook; I'm just looking for any formula that can search for specific values and find the total number of instances that an adjoining cell contains data.

I am trying to count the instances of a certain text in a range across 2 columns.
so lets say I have the word Dog in A1, A2, A3, A4 & B1, B2, B3, B4. I am look for the number beside each cell to say 1, 2, 3, 4 instead of summing the whole range.
I have tried the array formula of {=SUM(IF(C:D=C2,1,0))}. However this does just bring back the sum of the instances and I am clueles on how to get it to show the first instance, the second etc.

Im trying to construct a nested Countif statement. I need to count the number of instances that "Project" appears in Column O AND "TS" in Column N. The range is in another in Sheet2. and the summary in Sheet 1 where I want to have the Countif(AND...??? statement Example Counif(Sheet 1 Column 0 contains "Project" AND if Column N Contains "TS"

Need a way to count the number of times a certain bit of text occurs in a range based on a given criteria? Say I've got a column of names and another column with true or false in it (next to each name), how could a do a total of how many times 'TRUE' occurs next to each name?

I'm using WinXP with Excel 2003 - I have a column of highway sign description data (16k+ rows).
Example:
Curve Arrow Right
Curve Arrow Left
Turn Arrow
Reversing Curve Arrow Right
Winding Road Arrow(plus many more unique entries)
I'm using SUM and COUNTIF to total the number of times "Curve", "Reversing", "Turn" and "Winding" appear in the column.
My formula is:
Code: =SUM(COUNTIF($F11:$F16196,{"*CURVE*","*REVERSING*","*TURN*","*WINDING*"}))
Which works great EXCEPT what I really want is the number of cells with any of those key words, not the total count of those words. The example above should be 5, but since row four contains more that 1 of the key words I'm getting 6.

How can I minus 1 from this COUNTIF. Basically counting non blanks - but it keeps counting the title as well, even when i change it to start at row D2 (it just jumps back to D1 next time). =COUNTA(RAW_DATA_2!$D$1:$D$215)

My data is as follows:

In my dataset above the cases finish after 12 months (hence why there is a maximum number of cases).
What I am seeking is a method to count along a certain number of cells, then sum the contents of those. For example, I would like to count the contents of up to 12 cells, then sum those 12 cells.
Where it gets difficult is as follows:
- In month 6, I am just counting the contents of 6 cells (months 1-6)
- In month 12, I am counting the contents of 12 cells (months 1 -12)
- In month 18, I am counting the contents of 12 cells (month 7 - 18)

I am trying to work on a spreadsheet (I am very new to all this). I have colum I with dates in and Colum K with dates in... When a product comes into my shop I enter the date it arrived in Colum I and when it leaves I enter the date in Colum K.
What I would like to try to work out is how do I ask Excel to tell me How many blank cells there are in Colum K if I enter a date range for Colum I
I will try to give an example.
Colum K may have 200 entries for the week 6/5/13 to 10/5/13. I need to know how many cells are blank in Colum K if the date range on Colum I is between 6/5/13 to 10/5/13
The end result should basically tell me how much stock I have left in my shop for that week.
I have found something that sort of works by using this =SUMPRODUCT((I1:I200<=TODAY())*(K1:K200="")) but ideally I need to be able to change the word TODAY into a date range like 6/5/13 to 10/5/13 and I cant seem to do that???

I have a sheet to analyze football(soccer) scores. But when I count the zero scores (no goals scored) across a range blank cells in the range are counted as zero, which I don't want. Is there any command I could put with the formula to tell it not to count blank cells as zero or just not to count blank cells at all? The sort of formula I use is {=COUNT(IF(H103:H559=0,(IF(I103:I559=0,1))))}

I have a Workbook with multiple sheets with Data in them. I would like to Count the number of duplicate values between the sheets.
For example.
Sheet one has a list of case references Person A is dealing with.
Sheet two has a another list of case references Person B is dealing with however the also have a list of case reference's they are monitoring as part of a project.
Sheet 3 has got the total number of case references each Person is dealing with, it also contain the total number of cases Person A&B together are dealing with. however i need to find the total number of cases Person B is monitoring that Person A also has so that the total number of cases is the true number of total cases with no duplicates involved.
(References begin with VB then have a string of numbers afterwards and I would like to know the total number of cases the Person B is monitoring as well so these need ot be calculated).

Have been doing some sums on excel. I've managed to calculate the number of months between 2 dates using this formula.....
=DATEDIF(C3,D3,"y")&" years "&DATEDIF(C3,D3,"ym")&" months "
I then come up with a list of months calculated.
What I now want to know is, how many are equal to or more than 9 months? And if this is the case then can the cells be highlighted in a different colour?

I am attempting to count a number of cells in one column so long as they fall within a certain date, which is located in another cell in the same column. I'm trying to account for a number of reports that happened within a certain week.
The formula I came up with was
=COUNTA(COUNTIFS(A_DATE,">="&B2,A_DATE,"<="&D2))
But this returns 1 more then it should no matter what. Even when all cells within A_DATE are empty. it returns 1.
I know the COUNTIFS portion works to count the cells between certain dates.
Is what i'm looking to do possible or am I suffering from Excel burnout and just can't see that logicaly it makes no sense?

I am sure this should be REALLY simple, but i just can't find the answer i'm looking for. I have a sheet which changes daily in quantity of information. I want some simple code which counts up the number of populated cells in column A and returns the answer to a cell in another worksheet - or just automatically use it to print that number of pages.
I think i should be able to do the printing side, but, currently have no idea how to count up the number of populated cells in the row. If someones feeling very generous though, giving me the code for printing that number of pages too would save me some work (the worksheet which needs printing is different to the worksheet which needs the number of cells adding up.)

I have an excel sheet which is currently 1,100 lines long and expected to increase and has a number of dates in columns W-AO representing the dates in which someone has had an onsite assessment. I wish to report in column AQ if there has been any visit activity in the month, i.e August for this month’s report. Is there an Excel function which will allow for this? Im thinking something like having a drop down list to select the month at the top of the column and then the sheet returns a value of 1 for all lines where a there is a date equal to the month selected?
I guess it is also worth mentioning that the sheet is setup as a table.

I'm looking for the easiest way to count the number of occurrences within a cell range.
The formula that I'm currently using is:
=COUNTIF(D$5:D$8,"a*")
This counts the number of cells that start with 'a' and returns the sum. It seems to work fine, but when I try to make it look for more values in the range it gives me an error. For example;
When I want to find multiple values in the range and count them all, I use this formula:
=COUNTIF(D$5:D$8,OR("a*","b*","c*"))

I need a formula to count the number of times the same thing occurs in a particular column. i.e. tree 1, tree 2, tree 3. I just tried the countif function and it is returning "0". Not sure if that's because the data I am looking for is part number/part text. Does this make a difference? There are also spaces between the number and the text. Also, the range I am asking excel to look in is based on a concatenate formula.
