Select Duplicates In A Column For Deleting

Feb 24, 2010

Does anyone have a utility which can be used to select a specific column i.e. B:B, which then 'selects' all duplicate values in that column prior to deleting them ?

Deleting Non-duplicates

Sep 7, 2008

I have a large spreadsheet of over 5,000 rows and 20 columns. What I would like to be able to do is find a formula(?) that will enable me to retain rows of data when Cells in column B and column E contain duplicate data but delete entire rows if the contents of cells in column B and E are not duplicated.

For example:

Column B contains Part Numbers
Column E contains Manufacturer

If a part number (Cell B)has been made by two or more manufacturers (Cell E), retain all relevant rows.

If a part number has only been made by one manufacturer, however many times, delete all relevant rows.

What I'm trying to be able to achieve is retain data so that I can analyse it when 2 or more manufacturers have produced the same parts.

I'm still having issues with this workbook. I cannot use a pivot table to fix it, I don't understand them and it confuses me greatly..... so I'm at the mercy of either a formula or macro. I need to combine the duplicate part numbers (a), total the quantities, average the price (d), and total the amount of the part (e). I'm having a very difficult time with it.

Deleting Duplicates In Range Of Rows?

Mar 22, 2013

I have the following problem within Excel. I have a dataset which contains duplicate values within a column(lets say A). I need to delete these duplicates in column A for a range of rows, where the range of the rows is based on column B. So for a given value in column B, lets say 5 which is 6 rows long all beneath each other, I need to delete the duplicates in column A.

A B
1 2234
4 2234
5 2234
4 2234
2 2234
3 2234
5 2234
5 2657
8 2657
9 2657
10 2657
8 2657
9 2657
2 2657

So above the red numbers need to be removed, automatically, since we have about 8000 rows in our dataset.

Removing Duplicates Without Deleting Rows?

Jan 25, 2014

I'm trying to remove duplicates without deleting the rows they were in (instead just being left with blank spaces).

For example Column A might look like this:

Column A
1
1
1
1
2

2
3

I need it to look like this:

Column A
1

How I can delete these duplicates without doing it one by one?

Deleting Duplicates-Delete The Correct One

Apr 18, 2006

I have some Job numbers that are duplicates. I can't just do a loop and delete any duplicates that come across because I have to be sure the right one is deleted.

I want the old data to be deleted if there is a duplicate..I just don't know how to verify which one is the old one using VBA. I was thinking of maybe using an advanced filter, but I don't know enough about them.

Is there code that will check both duplicates and delete the old one?

1. Look for duplicates in all column A

2. For each duplicate found in column A, check if all values in column B are also duplicate.

3. If the condition in (2) is satisfied, compare column D for all the rows; select the row with the minimum value in column D, and delete the other rows.

Deleting Select Sheets

Aug 22, 2007

I have a File with many sheets (40 - 60) and I'm trying to eliminate the sheets I don't want. The names of the sheets are all random, but in common they have a three letter code for a country.

The following is the code that I have -

Sub Deletesheets()
Dim x As Integer
Application.ScreenUpdating = 0
On Error Resume Next
For x = 1 To Sheets.Count
Sheets(x).Select

I'm hoping to save any sheet that has either CAN or USA the name and delete the rest.

Besides being inefficient, my code errors out because I've got my IF's and ELSE in the wrong place, but I can finagle it to work.

Macro Optimization And Moving Text From One Column To Another And Deleting Previous Column

Nov 7, 2009

I am running Win XP and Excel 2003.

I have a macro I found here on the boards written by Lenze to delete an entire row based on what is found in column A. I would like to delete any row where Col. B contains 10 or less characters and I have modified it to do so (or at least I think it does). My problem is that it takes about 12 minutes to run the macro (I have about 50k lines to run through). I was wondering if this is the fastest method or if it examines things other than just column B.

Sub Test()
Dim i As Long
LR = Cells(Rows.Count, "B").End(xlUp).Row
For i = LR To 2 Step -1
If Len(Cells(i, "B")) < 11 Then Cells(i, "B").EntireRow.Delete
Next i
End Sub
After this runs, I am left with Columns A to somewhere around AH. The columns are generally in the format of text followed by a numeric column. An individual text column has the same name through all of the rows. The numeric columns have varied values whether negative or positive.
Ideally what I would like: If a given cell (ie. C2) in Row 2 is numeric, then copy the cell to the left (ie. B2) into (ie. C1) and then delete Column B. I need this to work for multiple columns from B to C, skip D and E, and then from F to AG (and maybe beyond).

Find Duplicates In Column A And Calculate Difference Between Times In Column B

Apr 4, 2009

I love this forum, and am usually able to find the help I need without bothering anyone However this one has me stumped and I wonder if anyone can help. It feels like it should be a fairly simple solution, but they can often be the ones that are most eluding LOL!

I have two columns; in column A are incoming telephone numbers and in column B are the date and time the calls were made. (I've put a few hashes in column A just to maintain confidentiality of the numbers, but in reality the cell is formatted as text in order to maintain the leading zero, and entries will follow the format 01234567890)

A sample would look like this:

0##6270####01-Mar-2009 00:01:440##6271####01-Mar-2009 00:03:020##6271####01-Mar-2009 00:03:040##6272####01-Mar-2009 00:16:330##6273####01-Mar-2009 00:30:490##6274####01-Mar-2009 00:55:470##6274####01-Mar-2009 01:06:170##6274####01-Mar-2009 01:07:420##6275####01-Mar-2009 01:08:360##6275####01-Mar-2009 01:11:410##6276####01-Mar-2009 01:13:45

Some numbers only call in once, I need to identify them as only called once.

Some numbers call twice, if they do I need to be able to show time it took between call 1 and call 2.

Some numbers call more than twice. For each successive call I need to be able to show the time since the previous call.

In my mind, the results table would need to look something like this:

NumberTime of callTime between
1st and 2nd call
Time between
2nd and 3rd call
Time between
3rd and 4th call
0##6270####01-Mar-2009 00:01:44Only called once0##6271####01-Mar-2009 00:03:0200:00:020##6272####01-Mar-2009 00:16:33Only called once0##6273####01-Mar-2009 00:30:49Only called once0##6274####01-Mar-2009 00:55:4700:10:3000:01:250##6275####01-Mar-2009 01:08:3600:03:050##6276####01-Mar-2009 01:13:45Only called once

Excel 2007 :: Remove Duplicates In Column B For Each Value In Column A?

Jan 8, 2014

I need to remove the duplicates under column B for each item under column A and I can't seem to figure out how to do it.

I'm using Excel 2007; I would prefer a VBA solution, as I have to do this on a monthly basis. However, if a formula is the best way to go, then that's just fine. Either way, I'm preparing the data for a pivot table. I am unable to post the actual document in the interest of data protection.

Essentially, I'd like to turn this-

_ A B
1 Paris Bill
2 Paris Bill
3 Paris Mike
4 Paris Derek
5 Paris Derek
6 London Mike
7 London Bill
8 London Mike
9 London Bill
10 London Derek
11 Tokyo Derek
12 Tokyo Derek
13 Tokyo Derek

into this-

_ A B
1 Paris Bill
2 Paris Mike
3 Paris Derek
4 London Mike
5 London Bill
6 London Derek
7 Tokyo Derek

In other words, each city should have only one instance of any name that accompanies it; not all names will accompany each city.

Duplicates In Column - Which To Keep Based On Other Column

Jan 30, 2014

I have a data set of property sales that represent properties sold twice over a period of time (each address is represented twice in one column but they are 2 different transactions and the remainder of the row data varies). I am looking for a formula or method to remove the duplicates, but I want to remove the duplicate that sold for less.

The entire row is not a duplicate, only the address. There is another column with sale price and I would want it to keep each address of the 2 (or sometimes 3) that is highest. I intend to use a pivot table to analyze and realized that the data is skewed because everything is showing up at least twice.
