Compare Column A To Column B Then Highlight / Format Any Duplicates

Mar 17, 2014

Trying to compare a list of names in 2 columns. Column A has a short list of names I'm looking for in the long list of Column B.

How can you create the macro that does...

If any value in Column A matches any value in Column B

Then format (bold, highlight, etc...)

Highlight Duplicates In Column

Oct 4, 2007

I'm using this conditional formatting to spot duplicate data by turning it red:

= COUNTIF(C:C,C6650)>1

How can I also get it to put a '1' in column A if it is not a duplicate?

Compare Two Columns-delete Duplicates From Just ONE Column

Oct 7, 2009

I have column A that is 1,500 records.
I have column B with 40,000 records.

Among the 40,000 records in column B, duplicates of ALL 1,500 records from column A exist.

My question is: How do I find WHERE the 1,500 dupes are and how can I delete JUST those records?

Compare Lists & Highlight Duplicates

Jul 3, 2007

I receive a daily spreadsheet which contains (amongst other information) a column of postcodes. I'd like to run a macro which compares these postcodes with a list of other postcodes, and then to colour highlight each instance of that post code in the daily spreadhseet.

I have been able to find and modify a macro but that searches for one post code at a time and then adds a comments box to the cell.

Instead of copying that piece of code and editing it for the several hundred post codes I need to "look up" against, I'd like to know how to create a list of post codes in the macro, so that the macro searches the first post code in the lookup list, finds and highlights each cell instance, then moves onto the next post code in the lookup list, until the end of the lookup list. I would like this as the editing of the lookup list would be much easier than editing paragraphs of code.

Conditionally Format Rows Based Duplicates Only Found In First Column?

Dec 6, 2013

I'm trying to conditionally format rows of data based on duplicates in the first column, then filter the results. I have a table of data with mutiple variables assigned to different "headings" that looks a little something like this:

A
B
C
D

[Code]....

[selects the table, then GoTo Special selects the blanks, fills in the blanks with the cell above, then Copy and Pastes As Values the entire table again to fill everything in]

I’m stuck on how to input a formula into the conditional formatting window that will:
Format the text to white in columns A, B, and E based on there being a duplicate above that row in Column A only. i.e. conditionally format the values with a * below:

A
B
C
D
E

[Code]....

If I use the conditional formula I found: =A1=A2, then cell E3 gets made white text when I don’t want it to, hence the “referencing column A” part of the question (Column A is always a unique ID number whereas Column E can have a duplicate in the row above). [Edit: Why can't I type Enter or put a line break here... I'll try re-edit at home...] When I go to filter on Column C for YYY again, the conditional formatting needs to realise to un-white the text, which is my next headache because it means conditional formatting that acts relative to hidden rows as a result of a filter... Oh and did I mention the client wants this done in 2003? This is an afterthought though – as I can force them to use 2010 if need be

Conditional Format - Compare To An Adjacent Column Of Numbers

Sep 15, 2009

I have a column of numbers (column A) which I'd like to compare to an adjacent column of numbers (column B) and, by row, determine if the number is larger.

If it is, I'd like to place a different colour on the cell. What is the formula I need to use to accomplish this?

Ex:
Col A Col B
30,000 5,000 - A is larger than B, therefore A is formatted RED
20,000 20,000 - A is the same as B, therefore no format applied
10,000 15,000 - A is less than B, therefore A is formatted GREEN

Conditional Format - Highlight Cells In Column That Have Entered Numbers Rather Than Formulas

May 29, 2013

Col A - budget items (description)
Col B - budget dollars
Col C - actual dollars
Row 10 - summation Cols B and C

When the budget is prepared the actual dollars in Col C are equal to the budget dollars for all items. For instance the formula =b2 is placed in cell C2. As time passes the user records actual dollars in Col C for each item by entering the actual amount directly into the cell. Actual dollars do not become known all at the same time, so that Col C will contain a mixture of formulas and entered numbers.

How can I highlight the cells in Col C that have entered numbers rather than formulas.

Lookup/Match: Compare A1 For The Values In Column B, Then Return The Corresponding Cell (column C) In Column D

I've been searching the forums for this problem but I can't seem to find any answers. Anyway, this is the problem. See screenshot.

I want to compare A1 for the values in column B, then return the corresponding cell (column C) in column D.
e.g. D1 = 2, D2 = 1, D3 = 4, D4 = 5 and D5 = 3.

Compare Column B With All Rows In Column A If Match Place In Column C?

Aug 13, 2014

I want to compare two columns. I would like to see if the contents of column B appear anywhere in column A, for any amount of rows, and if it does, to place the match in col C.

So in the example below, red in B1 would be checked in A1 through A1000 or however long A is. When any row has red, place that match in that row for C.

This would be repeated until all rows in B are complete.

Example
Col A: red
Col B: red
Col C: red

Col A: red
Col B: blue
Col C: not found

Find Duplicates In Column A And Calculate Difference Between Times In Column B

Apr 4, 2009

I love this forum, and am usually able to find the help I need without bothering anyone However this one has me stumped and I wonder if anyone can help. It feels like it should be a fairly simple solution, but they can often be the ones that are most eluding LOL!

I have two columns; in column A are incoming telephone numbers and in column B are the date and time the calls were made. (I've put a few hashes in column A just to maintain confidentiality of the numbers, but in reality the cell is formatted as text in order to maintain the leading zero, and entries will follow the format 01234567890)

A sample would look like this:

0##6270####01-Mar-2009 00:01:440##6271####01-Mar-2009 00:03:020##6271####01-Mar-2009 00:03:040##6272####01-Mar-2009 00:16:330##6273####01-Mar-2009 00:30:490##6274####01-Mar-2009 00:55:470##6274####01-Mar-2009 01:06:170##6274####01-Mar-2009 01:07:420##6275####01-Mar-2009 01:08:360##6275####01-Mar-2009 01:11:410##6276####01-Mar-2009 01:13:45

Some numbers only call in once, I need to identify them as only called once.

Some numbers call twice, if they do I need to be able to show time it took between call 1 and call 2.

Some numbers call more than twice. For each successive call I need to be able to show the time since the previous call.

In my mind, the results table would need to look something like this:

NumberTime of callTime between
1st and 2nd call
Time between
2nd and 3rd call
Time between
3rd and 4th call
0##6270####01-Mar-2009 00:01:44Only called once0##6271####01-Mar-2009 00:03:0200:00:020##6272####01-Mar-2009 00:16:33Only called once0##6273####01-Mar-2009 00:30:49Only called once0##6274####01-Mar-2009 00:55:4700:10:3000:01:250##6275####01-Mar-2009 01:08:3600:03:050##6276####01-Mar-2009 01:13:45Only called once

Excel 2007 :: Remove Duplicates In Column B For Each Value In Column A?

Jan 8, 2014

I need to remove the duplicates under column B for each item under column A and I can't seem to figure out how to do it.

I'm using Excel 2007; I would prefer a VBA solution, as I have to do this on a monthly basis. However, if a formula is the best way to go, then that's just fine. Either way, I'm preparing the data for a pivot table. I am unable to post the actual document in the interest of data protection.

Essentially, I'd like to turn this-

_ A B
1 Paris Bill
2 Paris Bill
3 Paris Mike
4 Paris Derek
5 Paris Derek
6 London Mike
7 London Bill
8 London Mike
9 London Bill
10 London Derek
11 Tokyo Derek
12 Tokyo Derek
13 Tokyo Derek

into this-

_ A B
1 Paris Bill
2 Paris Mike
3 Paris Derek
4 London Mike
5 London Bill
6 London Derek
7 Tokyo Derek

In other words, each city should have only one instance of any name that accompanies it; not all names will accompany each city.

Duplicates In Column - Which To Keep Based On Other Column

Jan 30, 2014

I have a data set of property sales that represent properties sold twice over a period of time (each address is represented twice in one column but they are 2 different transactions and the remainder of the row data varies). I am looking for a formula or method to remove the duplicates, but I want to remove the duplicate that sold for less.

The entire row is not a duplicate, only the address. There is another column with sale price and I would want it to keep each address of the 2 (or sometimes 3) that is highest. I intend to use a pivot table to analyze and realized that the data is skewed because everything is showing up at least twice.

Conditionally Format Each Group Of Rows And Each Column And Color The Cell In Each Column

Nov 27, 2009

I've a worksheet that is 3750 rows of cells from A to DT and contains only numbers with the exception of a header row. The rows are in groups, primarily 4 rows, although there are exceptions - these rows are separated by blank rows. Small example as follows.

0:001:002:003:004:005:006:007:008:009:000000-296567-6-1-400000286567-300-230000715557-16-11-40-18141755226-348405-362203081417192125-893581061800-2443-11124-289326-81318-1105027854331331211318-10216-161235526785691450451115951-17-1882505656683093102671056-191-33-2710000554740971-61-78-34224107-169-128-17090179-85220-55-63-1-162-140-242-235328266319106113-214-64-148205-4108120-142076-167-60-68-6418081102-800000000000-3099695807185-80356138-123194186210677727125-23233092-2942944748055564476-422051-224-34461486649597117-84209-22-251-94

I have been trying to conditionally format each group of rows and each column and color the cell in each column of four (or less) numbers in each group that represents the maximum number.
It was easy enough to come up with the conditional formatting BUT it will take forever to do this manually. I've been told to use a macro but I know nothing of programming. Has anyone seen or heard of a macro that might already be written to perform this onerous task.

Sumif (compare Column A On Tab 2 With Column A On Tab 1)

Jan 27, 2009

I have a spreadsheet that lists something like this (an easy version of it anyway!)

On tab 1 of my spreadsheet I have a table with lots of data similar to:

Column A Column B
111 12.23
111 14.32
222 48.23
222 28.34
222 10.23
222 33.40
333 23.21

On tab 2 of my spreadsheet I have unique versions of the data Column A on tab 1, for instance:

Column A
111
222
333

I would like to have a formula on tab 2 that can compare column A on tab 2 with column A on tab 1 - if it is similar I want it to total the amounts for all of the values equal.

So for instance, on tab 2 the final data should be this in my example:

Column A Column B
111 26.55
222 120.20
333 23.21

I've seen formulas that are similar.. but the condition is it can only total the rows that match. And preferably can do this from the other sheet.

Duplicates Finding Entries In Column A Which Match Any Of Column C Entries

May 7, 2014

What I need to do is sort certain entries in longer list (column A, it is in .csv format and needs to be in it so coordinates and names and ID, all sorted with commas) and I have another list (column C) which is shorter list of certain IDs. I googled and tried and got some results for the basic structure but the fuction seems to fail. It doesn't matter how I get that third list done, but there is only one criteria: since the list in column A is really long and those entries need to keep the .csv formatting, the function should copy that info what is in the matching cells.

Let me try to put it simple: .csv cells from column A that have matching ID from column C should be copied to column B (or N).

the function I'm working with right now is

=IF(ISERROR(FIND($C:$C; A1))=TRUE;"0";A1)

Count Duplicates In Column?

Jul 21, 2014

I have a column with something like 20 thousand rows. I would like a formula that basically checks the column for duplicates and numbers the sets of duplicates. So if there are 5 cells that are all "Server10" I would like for the formula to place a one next to all of those cells. And for the next set of duplicates it finds I would for it to place a 2 next to all of those cells. Essentially my end goal is to sort the sheet so that all of the matching duplicates are all together. There might be some simple filtering method here that I'm overlooking but if there is..... I'm overlooking it lol. And to be clear I don't want to eliminate the duplicates, I just want them grouped together.

I've attached a very simple example of what I would like the formula to do. The cells in the right column would be the result of the formula.
