Split Into Multiple Sheets Based On Beginning String In Set Column?

Apr 12, 2014

I have used this code below to split a large excel file into multiple sheets from matching column data, but now I need to split it by a partial match (set number of characters from the beginning) from beginning of the column data.

For Example:

[Code]....

So with the code provided below using column 3 I would get 10 different sheets since none of the data in the column is identical. I want to modify the code (or come up with new code) so I can set the number of characters to compare from the beginning of the data in the set column and split into sheets based on that. So if I set it to the first 4 characters in column 3 I would receive only 5 sheets sheets: Safe, Fail, Dont, Poop, & 21-4.

What are the modifications or new code needed for this? I have searched for a bit with no luck, just keep finding code to check the full cell data for matches in a set column like this code I have:

SPLIT DATA FROM ONE SHEET TO MULTIPLE SHEETS

[Code] ......

Data Validation To Exclude Letters But Allow Numbers Beginning With Zeros

Nov 8, 2008

I am using Excel 07 with Vista, and creating a spreadsheet in which users will be inputting a record into every row.

There is a row that requires a number to be entered, where some of the numbers will begin with 0 or 00 or even 0000. I want to make sure no-one incorrectly enters a letter, however with data validation set to whole numbers, it formats the cell to change an entry of "005667" into just "5667". There is no set length for the field.

The only way to have "005667" is the change the column to text, but then obviously that defeats the whole purpose!

Split Numbers And Split Words

May 8, 2009

How do I split numbers!

I have two problems/challenges!

Part I...
I got the answer 1987, and now I want Excel to take the numbers out and display...
1 in one box then i set + in the next, then 9 in the 3ed. box, next box +, then 8, then +, then 7 in the last so that i can have Excel make a SUM of it all to 25.

How do I split 1987 and put the numbers in different boxes?

Part II...
I want to make A=1 B=2... all the way up to 9, then start over again with J=1 K=2... up to 9 again and then over again.

So that if I write my name it comes out as a value of 14 (Odd = O=6 D=4 D=4 =14)

(AJSØ=1 BKTÅ=2 CLU=3 DMV=4 ENW=5 FOX=6 GPY=7 HQZ=8 IRÆ=9, It's the Norwegian alphabet, that's why there are some extra letters)

So how do I set up my Excel so that is ANY name is typed in I can get it out into a number from the values assign?

Move Text From End Of String To Beginning

Jun 28, 2013

I have a column which contains a series of alphanumeric characters some start with the alpha characters and others end with them.

As an example ABS1234, 1234ABS, 12k34AB needs to be ABS1234, ABS1234, AB12k34. The number of alpha characters at the end will be a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3. Is there some way that I can move the Alpha characters, at the end, so that they are always at the beginning of the string?

So basically for example I would want the top row to now read:

and then apply the same procedure to the other ranges below this.

VLOOKUP Using Text Lookup Field Beginning With Zero?

Mar 13, 2014

Having difficulty with a VLOOKUP that uses a text lookup field beginning with 0. For all the other numbers formatted as text I use this function:

[Code].....

For the one that begins with a 0 I have to use this function:

[Code] .....

This is a problem for me, because I need to be able to copy the top function to all of my sheets without having to edit the ones where the lookup field begins with 0. I could alter my VBA to specifically search for those cases and adjust, but that seems unneccesary.

More info - The beginning column of the Table Array (i.e. the lookup field I'm searching for) is a function of another cell; both cells are formatted as text. Here is the function:

[Code] ....

I have to put a single quote in front of the lookup field, so that "064" is not displayed as "64" even if the cell is formatted as text. I have another instance where I am looking up "'791" and it works fine with the first VLOOKUP above. Even if I remove the single quote this will work. However, once there is a leading zero the function no longer works and I must use the second VLOOKUP listed above.

Split Two Numbers Separated By Backslash Into Two Cells

Nov 30, 2012

I have a spreadsheet that has two numbers separated by a backslash in one cell, like below:

F/P KR EVERYDAY TOWELS 6P (72)276SFT SC 015836

3 / 3
1 / 1
3 / 3
1 / 1

[Code]....

What I want to be able to to is separate the two numbers into a different cells like below:

F/P KR EVERYDAY TOWELS 6P (72)276SFT SC 015836
F/P KR EVERYDAY TOWELS 6P (72)276SFT SC 015836
3
3

[Code]...

Because I have about 50 columns, I don't want to use Text to Columns. Is there a formula or macro I could use? It doesn't have to be as clean like I layed it out (in regards to the column title) but I just to really separate the two numbers into two cells.

Text To Columns :: Macro To Split Text

Jun 17, 2008

I am trying to write a micro code to split text which is copied into cell A1 into columns. I can do this fine by going to "data" the "text to Columns" and selecting the places i want to split the text (this is the same for every piece of data i copy in).

The macro works perfectly every time. the problem is that the spreadsheet is shared and i want to protect certain cells on the sheet, when i protect the sheet the recorded macro does not work as the "data", "text to columns" is not available in a protected workbook.

I was just wondering if someone could help me, so i can run a macro to split the text which also allows me to protect cells. In the "text to column" option the "fixed width" (column breaks) i choose are: 4, 25, 34 and 43.

Combined Numbers And Texts Without Delimiter - Split And Perform Calculations

Aug 24, 2012

My excel database sheet contains inventory of products and quantities, each is defined in the form of combined number followed by text without a delimiter. For example 2AWS means Two (2) of AWS.

Each cell of the inventory field may contain up to two products, each product is identified in the above format; but the pair of products are separated with a comma.

The inventory field is occupying from cell $A$2:$A$5000; and is defined as a named range "INV_QTY" with scope within the entire workbook. I need to calculate the total inventory for each product.

Here's an example:

Cell A2: 3GFG, 1AWS
Cell A3: 2NG, 2AWS
Cell A4: 3AWS
Cell A5: 4QLK, 4GFG

etc.

The desired output should be calculated as follows (assume Input will be on Column C & D)

Product - QTY
GFG - 7 (i.e. Cell C2: GFG , Cell D2:7 etc.)
AWS - 6
NG - 2
QLK - 4

Split Text Across Columns ..

Nov 15, 2006

Need to split the WORD into Col B and put the DEFINITION into Col C.

Here's an example of what's sitting in A1:

Title – A description of record contents

I've tried using the text to columns but can't get it to work.
(since the Words are all different lengths, something gets chopped off)

What I have today:
In column A (within a single cell is both the Word & it's Definition).

I need to extract the word ONLY into a new column (B)
and extract all the other words into column (C) (without the dash)...

I've also tried :
=LEFT(A1, FIND(" ",A1)-1)
and successfully stripped the Word into column B
but can't find any functions to extract the rest properly into C

I JUST noticed, some WORDS are multuple...example:
Information Protection Level – Used to identify information protection values per Pro 2227

Can you provide a function for doing a 3 word extraction to Col B?

I guess, what I REALLY need is for it to take "everything up to the dash" and put in column B......then put everything after the dash and put in col C.
