Sheet1 (Also named "TicketNames") and Sheet 2 ("Day1").
On TicketNames I have 4 Columns the first 3 columns with about 5 names per columns.
Each list of five are given a specific Name ("One","Two","Three"). The last column is just
a list for Day1 dropdown menu. (3 names, "One", "Two", "Three").
On Day1, I have a validation list on A1 which will allow the user to select either ("One, Two or Three").
On B1, another dropdown menu, but it will only show the items related to the selection they made on A1.
My problem is that on A1, instead of having "One" show up, I want it to say "$1" for One dollar. But because it is a number not a text it won't allow me to use a validation list using this.
I am trying to setup a number of cells with a validation list allowing "Yes" or "". I would like the cell value to equal 1 when "Yes" is selected. Is this possible without VBA?
The reason for this is because I want to set up conditional formatting with the tick, cross, exclamation mark icon set (With a tick appearing for "Yes"), but this conditional formatting only works with numerical values.
I am trying to do 2 things involving data validation. 1) Count the number of entries in a data validation dropdown list and display a result. 2) Use an If statement to pull the formatting from a cell into another cell.
An example would be if Cell A1="A", then show the drop down list associated with cell or sheet "!ryanB2". Alternatively, I would like to also display the number of entries in the drop down list.
I have two sets of data that I need which is obtained from one source.
Basically, the stats I am working with in excel are Processing Time (minutes/seconds) and Volume Per Hour. I desperately need a formula that will allow me to convert the processing time into Volume per hour.
Example: Average Handle Time, 7min 7 seconds = x per hour. If it was just 7 minutes flat I could simply divide that into 60. I also can't make it 7.7 and divide that because 7.7 doesn't equal 7m7s.
Does anyone have any thoughts on a way to do this? I found a conversion chart online that allowed me to do this work manually 'Conversion Chart: Fraction of an Hour to Minutes', but I haven't determined a way to make a formula out of this.
VBA code which can distinguish whether a cell has been edited by:
selecting an option from a data validation list (DVL) or manually editing the text in a cell?
The ""Show error alert after invalid data is entered"" option is unticked to allow both selection from the DVL as well as free format text entries.
The problem arises when using the code below which makes an edited cell within a range display the new value as well as the prior value(s). This works well when using the DVL but not when editing the cell.
Is there any code which can distinguish between the 2?
I'm trying to convert a number from word to a number in excel. Example: 10-12 input in word to a cell in excel. Unfortunately it treats it as a date an gives me 39002. I want to be able to use both numbers and add them together to get -2 not 39002. How to format the excel spreadsheets in order to complete this calculation.
I have a spreadsheet which I automatically generate using VBA. One of the columns lists account numbers. After the macro is complete, the account numbers are non-numeric and left justified. However if I select one of the account numbers by clicking on its cell, and then edit the account number in the formula window, it changes the cells property to numeric and right-justifies the cell.
I often use vlookups that fail because of numeric/text discrepancies. I was always taught that if you're not going to do math on a field, it should be text. Such as zip codes or social security number.
Anyway, I know the easy way to convert text to numbers is paste special > multiply by 1. But what's the easiest way to convert numeric to text?
I'm trying to make a table of the total amount of a liquid used throughout the day. Here is what I am trying to do: In cell D4, I want to be able to enter something similar to the following: 3cup+2bottle+1liter
and by doing so, Excel can automatically recognize that 1cup is 8oz, 1bottle is 17oz, and 1liter is 34 oz because of the reference chart provided on the side. Also, it would be able to notice the 3, 2, and 1 amounts so it would multiply accordingly so it would know to do this: (3*8)+(2*17)+(1*34)
and then put the calculated amount in the cell. The correct answer should be 92oz. Is there a way for Excel to recognize the conversions (i.e. whenever it sees 'cup' it will multiply by 8) and multiplication factors (i.e. 3, 2, 1)?Is there a formula I can enter that I can just "drag" down to the upcoming days in column D?
I know I can just do something like this: (3*G4)+(2*G5)+(1*G6).
I entered a pretty easy formula to pull the month from a date:
=MONTH(C23)
, where C23 = 12/11/2013. This returns the expected output of 12.
However, when I convert it to text:
=TEXT(MONTH(C23),"mmm"))
It outputs January instead of December. I am so confused, why would Excel 2010 return bogus output in this regard? I mean, I can use the =MONTH formula.
I have a large file with account numbers in Number format. Before I can import the data into a database the account numbers need to be converted to Text. I use Text(A1,0) to do this in a large file. The data then gets copied into a new Import file. When the data gets copied the account cell reverts back to scientific notation for the long account strings. The import file account column is formated for Text. The only fix is to then double click on each account that is in scientific notation to convert it back to text.
I have a question about conversion of a text format into date format.
2 computers, the first windows vista, the second Windows 8, both Excel 2007.
The purpose is to calculate the difference between 2 dates with hour:minutes:seconds, like for example: 18/12/2012 19:20:00 and 18/12/2012 19:23:03.
So in this example the result should be 00:03:03.
Both dates are formatted with 'personalized' : dd/mm/yyyy hh/mm.
In the first computer everything works like it should, but in the second it is apparently impossible to transform the first of those date h:m:s which is originally in a text format into a date format. I tried all the methods which i found to transform a text date format into a date , like multiplication with 1, Datevalue and others, but nothing seems to work, the result is always "#Value".
I'm not sure if its possible to do what I want. I'm trying to do it without VBA as my users might have a high macro security setting.
I have a validation dropdown in A2 where they pick 'yes' or 'no' for FLSA. I would like B2 to be a dropdown (validation, listbox, whatever) that would change based upon A2. If A2 is 'yes' I want to use the data in A5:B7 and if its 'no' use A10:B12. Ultimately I want B2 to equal one of the numbers from A5 - A7 or A10 - A12. However when they click on the drop down they see the combo of column A and columb B as column A has no meaning for the user.
I have a long list of data: a unique number identifier that needs to be grouped with text. Right now they are in two separate columns. I would like to have two large columns on a page, as if you were looking through a phone book. I have been trying to get this list to load into a finite number of rows before it breaks into another column on the same page. Then moves to the next page, so about 30 rows that are set 8 rows down on a page to account for company letter head.
I haven't paired the text and numbers together at all. But I haven't been able to find a way to have them move in a way that maintains their correspondence. I have gotten my numbers to move into the row column set I have wanted but not the text.
[LETTERHEAD] {1-7 rows} 1| Shims 31 |Shims 2 . . . . . . 30 Bearing Cover 60 |Mechanical Seals {Then it moves to the next page within a certain space. But at this point I would like it to just have this format}
I have a list of names (text string) in a column (A) that have associated whole numbers in another column (B). What I would like to do is create a formula that multiplies the text string in cell A2 (for ex.) by the whole number in B2 and return a "list" of the text string in A2 equal to the whole number by which it is multiplied.
Here's a visual example of the results I want to achieve:
Using the above example, I would like to end up with a list in column D with 159 total rows with the text contents corresponding to the whole number in column B.
I'm trying to use data validation to restrict the user to only selecting values in a list which I create. Right now, the list is a named range. I'd like to get rid of the range and just use a named list. I create a name using the following as my list.
Insert > Name > Create Name: Fruit
Refers to: banana,apple,orange
When I try to use the name Fruit in my data validation, I get the message "The List Source must be a delimited list, or a reference to single row or column." I thought my name "fruit" was a delimited list.
I am trying to create a fairly simple spreadsheet with about 8 columns and about 400 rows. One of the columns features a drop-down list with about 8 or 9 different options. Dependant on which option is selected, i would like the entire row to change colour with that option.
For example: FAILED - whole row changes red SUCCESSFUL - row has no fill Tested - row changes to orange
I'm looking for a way to get a unique list from a column to a data validation drop down list. Any fancy formula or vba script to create a UDF which. Does this?
I have a List of Different Fruits in Cells A1 to A5
Apple Banana Orange Strawberry Cherry
And I use data validation list in 5 different cells from Cells C1 to C5 then in every cell the list will show all the fruits,
But I want that if I select Any Fruit in cell C1 that should not be included in the remaining 4 cells, and the fruits selected in Cells C1 and Cell C2 should not be included in the remaining 3 cells and so on....
I Used the formula
=IF(C1=A1,OFFSET(A2,,,COUNTA($A$2:$A$5),1),0)
But this works fine if I select Apple in the Cell C1, then the List of C2 Shows all Fruits other than Apple, But if in Cell C1 I select any fruit other than Apple it does not work... (Using Excel2007 & Win XP)
I am attempting to use a named range as my Validation data source but have two questions:
1) It seems when you use a named range as a source the user can enter in any data they want in that cell. I really only want the user restricted to the list I give them. If I enter the list manually in the source box then it works but I really want to use a named range
2) My range is fixed to 10 cells and the user can enter in as many variables as they want (up to ten). When a user clicks on one of the cells that the validation is set to read the range the user has to always scroll to get to the top. When selecting the cell Ecel always defaults to the bottom choice in the list. I want to minimize the VBA because Mac users will be using this and VBA seems to be touchy with macs.
I would like to exclude blanks from the source of a validation list, I have found a really neat solution for vertical list in this topic, I have modified it, but I have missed something, the formula is not working.
i mtrying to get a validation list change depending on what is chosen in another list. I have attached an example, Yellow box is my validation and weather List 1 or List 2 in chosen I want the red box to be a choose of the list attached to those options. I've tried to put an If in there but I’m al a loss.
is there a way to force so that a cell value can be only of what a validation droplist offers, hence users can not enter their own values and have to use the droplist for cell content selection.
