I entered a pretty easy formula to pull the month from a date:
=MONTH(C23)
, where C23 = 12/11/2013. This returns the expected output of 12.
However, when I convert it to text:
=TEXT(MONTH(C23),"mmm"))
It outputs January instead of December. I am so confused, why would Excel 2010 return bogus output in this regard? I mean, I can use the =MONTH formula.
Using the text to columns option on a comma separated file in csv format leads to the right preview in the text to columns wizard.
The column titled "ATTIC: Zone ..." shows the desired format in the preview window. Please look at the screenshot 1.jpg.
After pushing the finish button to obtain the result the number format gets suddenly changed and differs from the preview.
Again check for the "ATTIC: Zone ..." column as reference: 2.jpg
Is there a menu where one can look up, or specify how to format data to force the right comma placement? What settings might be wrong?
I am working on this "maintenance schedule" that is currently sorted out into tabs that are organized into the 12 months, jan, feb and so on.
I have to write either a command or a program that would be efficient enough to easily convert these monthly data in weekly ones.
So the command would have to convert those "jan, feb, mar... ...dec" tabs into "week 1, week 2, week 3... ...week 52". (prefably by linking them up some how)
I am working in a spreadsheet that contains a bunch of data, it is not limited, and varies. It has some fiels such as: name, date of birth, address, and others. I am interested in creating a column with only the month digit of the date of birth for each row.
I have been working with some code, I am not quite sure how to continue. The following table would be a example that I have of the data, it has only to entry in the column of Date of Birth, but my data range will always vary. I want to get the month and past it in the next cell that is available in this case would be column c or 3... The worksheet name is REP.

I often use vlookups that fail because of numeric/text discrepancies. I was always taught that if you're not going to do math on a field, it should be text. Such as zip codes or social security number.
Anyway, I know the easy way to convert text to numbers is paste special > multiply by 1. But what's the easiest way to convert numeric to text?

I would like the function to stop filling dates at end of the month even for shorted months such as Feb.
I have 2 sheets;
Sheet1 (Also named "TicketNames") and Sheet 2 ("Day1").
On TicketNames I have 4 Columns the first 3 columns with about 5 names per columns.
Each list of five are given a specific Name ("One","Two","Three"). The last column is just
a list for Day1 dropdown menu. (3 names, "One", "Two", "Three").
On Day1, I have a validation list on A1 which will allow the user to select either ("One, Two or Three").
On B1, another dropdown menu, but it will only show the items related to the selection they made on A1.
My problem is that on A1, instead of having "One" show up, I want it to say "$1" for One dollar. But because it is a number not a text it won't allow me to use a validation list using this.

I have a large file with account numbers in Number format. Before I can import the data into a database the account numbers need to be converted to Text. I use Text(A1,0) to do this in a large file. The data then gets copied into a new Import file. When the data gets copied the account cell reverts back to scientific notation for the long account strings. The import file account column is formated for Text. The only fix is to then double click on each account that is in scientific notation to convert it back to text.
Is there another text formula I can use?
I have a question about conversion of a text format into date format.
2 computers, the first windows vista, the second Windows 8, both Excel 2007.
The purpose is to calculate the difference between 2 dates with hour:minutes:seconds, like for example:
18/12/2012 19:20:00 and 18/12/2012 19:23:03.
So in this example the result should be 00:03:03.
Both dates are formatted with 'personalized' : dd/mm/yyyy hh/mm.
In the first computer everything works like it should, but in the second it is apparently impossible to transform the first of those date h:m:s which is originally in a text format into a date format. I tried all the methods which i found to transform a text date format into a date , like multiplication with 1, Datevalue and others, but nothing seems to work, the result is always "#Value".

We just enter a Y or N for the escalation field.
I'm not great with Excel and can do a count with the COUNTIF but don't know how to separate my results so that the count is done per month..
Can someone point me in the right direction?
*EDIT* Also my date format is as follow's 04-Jan-07. Should I change that to make it easier to calculate the results?
I currently have a column of data by month for the years 2013 to 2025. I want to show only dec, jan and feb of each year. I am currently using the filter function but I can only select one month at a time.

I have a column titled "Start Date", "Month/Year", &"Total". I want to count the number of dates that appeared in the "start date" column that have the same month and year of the "month/year" column. That count should be in the total count. For ex, I want the first total (april 2008) to be 1, the second (may 2008) to be 1, and so on. I tried using countifs month and year of the start date is the month and year of the month/year column. Not working.

Details:
Sales will fit in 1 of 3 categories. Less than 25k; between 25k & 100k; greater than 100k.
- if under $25K, recognize in next month (month N+ 1)
- $25K-100K, recognize in two equal parts in months N + 1 and N + 2
- over $100K, recognize in three equal parts over 3 months
N + 1, N + 2, N + 3 ...
I am using a formula to calculate the last day of the month, using any date of the month in a worksheet in cell A13, this cell is also linked to another worksheet to pick up a date, using the ISBLANK function to prevent a dummy date entry appearing if the field in the linked ASHBY RISE worksheet is blank
=IF(ISBLANK('ASHBY RISE'!$C$5),"",'ASHBY RISE'!$C$5)
The last day of the month function is shown below
=DATE(YEAR(A13),MONTH(A13)+1,0)
This works fine if there is a date in A13, but returns a #VALUE! error if cell A13 is blank. I have tried using the ISBLANK function, but I am still getting the #VALUE! error. Of course I may have the sysntax incorrect.
A4 is Date Assigned (MM/DD/YY) on the Activity sheet
S4 is the month assigned which I extracted from A1 (January, February, etc.)
J4 is the name of the processor
On a separate sheet I'm trying to count how many packages each processor does per month. On this sheet I've entered (as an array) =SUM(IF(Activity!$J$4:$J$390="ProcessorA",IF(Activity!$S$4:$S$390=$A$4,1,0))).
This doesn't work. However, if I delete the formula and formatting from S4 and manually type in the name of the month in each cell in S column it does work. So, how should I be formatting Column S and the the month column on the other worksheet so that the formula will work? I'm using Excel 2000 and have attached a mini sample.
Can Anybody help me with a function that will arange all days from January acorrdingly with the year 2010. I am attacing a sample file to make it clear. I need the function to Check which month is in Cell H1 and arrange the days accordingly to the month and the year.

Is there anyway that when I choose (for example, Jan) the result shows the sum of January numbers. On the other hand, if I choose Feb, the results would be the sum of February. See Mar on cell C8 and Feb on cell E15.

I have a formula in a cell that counts down the days of the month each day using the today function...that part works perfect...But I have some conditional formatting that highlights the row when their is only 5 days left. Basically the row stays highlighted yellow for anything >=0 ="0",$BJ3

For example, my total net income for the 2 quarters of the year is 1050 and my investment is 500. If I have an income in Jan of 300, 300 in Feb, and 200 in March, then the function will spit out Feb as the breakeven month.

Here is the Formula I used;

The last part of my formula is throwing an error "K2:K57"

I have got a field in my Master sheet with dates which I have transposed into the right month of the year using Month().
I have the same data (but not necessarily on the same cell for everyday) for everyday of the month. Now I need to calculate what is the total for an individual for the whole month. Example,I need to total John's data for the month of January from the individual sheet for Region 1, Region 2 and region 3. I tried the sumif function as below but it does not seem to work. =SUMIF('Jan 1:Jan 3'!B5:B7,"John",'Jan 1:Jan 3'!C5:C7). I have simplified the file as an attachment below.Appreciate need as the original file is for 6 months and I need a way to compute the data.

Where the dates are in the 6th column and include blank cells at the bottom and in the first row it says Date.
I used =MONTH(A1) to convert a date to its relative month, but it comes out in number format (1 to 12). I want it to read JAN, FEB, MAR, etc.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get the sum of some cells (integer varies in column G), but comparing one column content (exact) and dates in a different column.
I tried the following:
=SUM((Tony!G30:G44)*(Tony!D30:D44="Crazy")*(MONTH(Tony!E30:E44)=7))
Column E would contain a date, such as 01-07-07 or 1st July 2007.
In the D Column, keywords such as "Crazy" are concise and standard. However regarding dates, am I better off finding a formula that looks for cell content (Contains "july", as opposed to ="July"), or using a month function (but getting it to work)? How can I do this?
