Using VBA To Enter Date When Other Cell Is = '0'


when the number in cell 'A1' reaches zero i want the VBA code to enter the date in cell 'A2' that it became '0'.

This is as far as i've got.

Using 'IF' With Conditional Format (change Cell Color Based On The 'P' Or 'F')
My cell has a 'P' or an 'F' plus some additional text. I'm trying to change cell color based on the 'P' or 'F' but I can't get it to recognize the letters.
Samples of what I've tried:
=IF(LEFT(L23,1)=P)
=IF(MID(L23,1,1)=P)
etc.

I can 'FIND' the 'P' or 'F' but there may be a P or F else where in the cell so the color may come up incorrect. I'm trying to get it to just look at the first character in the cell. Can the 'IF' be used with CFs?

How To Restrict The Cell Data To Letters 'a' Through 'e' AND 'A' Through 'E'
I am trying to come up with an excel shee which can track the progress of a student on practice exams. This exam only has multiple choice questions, with answer choices A,B,C,D or E.

What I am looking for

1) I want to restrict the cell data to A,B,C,D or E (both cases). Note that I am not looking for a drop down/combo box. It would take the user to use one or two mouse clicks to drop down the list, and I am not in favor of that.

2) I would like this validation/formula to be applied to all the cells in a particular column.

3) Nice-to-have.

If the user enters a lower case letter, then I would like to convert to upper case.

I am trying to create a macro in my personal macro book such that whenever any workbook is opened the calculation settings (tools, options, calculation tab) are set to semiautomatic and do not calculate before save. The macro works when I am opening Excel itself (Book1) but when I open an already saved file it gives me

From there I choose Debug, the VBE window comes up, and I hit F5 to continue the code without doing any actual debugging. Here is the code that I am using. This is in the Personal Macro book on the "This Workbook" section....

Run-time Error '1004' Method 'Range' Of Object '_Worksheet' Failed
I have an interesting error that only happens when there is one row of data in the worksheet (sheet2 or "Half Payout"). Rows 1 & 2 are headers, row 3 is when the data starts - if any. With either no rows of data or more than one the coding works just fine. Here is the exact error message I'm getting: Run-time error '1004': Method 'Range' of object '_Worksheet' failed.

The following code is supposed to sort the rows of data when opened and then activate the first open cell below B2.

Run-time Error '1004': Methd 'Range' Of Object '_Global' Failed
I have constructed the following code to set the print area of worksheets that have been selected to print to the range referenced in a worksheet level named range "xPrintArea". This named range is set using the OFFSET function. The procedure also sets the left footer to be a copyright notice that is also contained in a cell referenced by a named range.

Set oPrintArea = Range(sPrintAreaName)

is generating the error "Methd 'Range' of object '_Global' failed".

Note that the line

Set oCopyrightNotice = Range("CopyrightNotice")

does not generate this error. From what I've been able to determine from other research on this forum and others, I believe the problem is that I need to more fully qualify the object which Range(sPrintAreaName) is referencing. I've already tried to use

Set oPrintArea = wkSht.Range(sPrintAreaName).................

I am not familiar with Excel/VBA and I tried a couple of suggestions with no luck. The excel file contains three forms and three modules and it is intended to calculate and build Electrical panels. Run-time Error '1004' Method 'Add' Of Object ' Sheets' Failed Adding Multiple Sheets
I have been running a simulation for about 18 hours now and just received:

Run-time error '1004':
Method 'Add' of object ' Sheets' failed

I have been creating new sheets, importing data, pulling some values from the data then deleting the respective sheet. I am using:

ActiveWorkbook.Sheets.Add after:=Sheets(Sheets.Count)

The sheet is actually being added to the workbook, seemingly before the error. I resume the code, and a new sheet is placed in the workbook and it errors again. The Debugger stops and highlights on the code above.The sheet count number was 10895 at the error, just as an indicator of how many times the simulation has performed successfully. I am hoping this is something I can fix without having to start over...

Run Time Error 1004 - Method 'Range' Of 'Object'_Global' Failed
I am trying to build a macro which will format the columns of a spreadsheet - basically it inserts some columns, writes formulas and highlights them. Here is a code I have got so far...

When I try to run this I get a run time error 1004 - Method 'Range' of 'Object'_Global' failed. The part of the code
Range("N2:N").FormulaR1C1 = "=(RC[-7]/RC[-2])"

is highlighted in the debugger.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening, also it would be great if you could suggest better ways of writing this code - as I am new to vba programming and most of my macros are built using the recorder and then 'working' on them.

Display 'Date' Cell As Blank Instead Of Default Year 1900
Three columns.

A - Date last checked
B - Due Date
C - Actual Date checked

Currently column B is formatted to Date and simply has =A+84 and will display a date 3 months in future. However if there is no date in column A, then column B displays a default 1900 date.. Is there a way of making this blank if there is no date in col A?

Nested IF To Enter Information Into Column 'A'
I am trying to use a nested IF to enter info into col A. It is based on 4 pieces of info, I can get the first 3 to work but am struggling with the last part. The problem is that I am looking at the same cell for the first 3 parts but the last part is looking at another cell reference. A nested IF may not be the way to go. An example of the spreadsheet is as follows:

A B C D AB
1 12/1/10 Comp 1 Surveyer 1 18/1/10
Omit 11/1/10 Comp 2 Surveryer 1 Omit
0 10/1/10 Comp 1 Surveyer 2
Comp 3 Surveyer 1

The formula I am currently using in column A is:
=IF(AB3="Omit","Omit",IF(AB3,1,"0"))
This works for the first 3 pieces of information but however does put a 0 in col A if there is no date in col AB, but this what I expect as it's what I've asked for. I am missing the last piece of information.

But what I want to put in column A is:
If there is a date in column AB - enter 1
If there is the word 'Omit' in col AB - enter Omit
If there is no date or the word Omit in col AB - enter 0 and finally
If there is no date in col B - leave blank (if there is no date in col B, col AB will always be blank)

Application.onkey With 'enter'key
Have working routine with combobox lists which are split into 'beverages of sorts' - sent to textbox and from there put into columns of type/variety in other worksheets
All working fine apart from repeated 'hits' of the command buttons to activate the data movement

Have Excel2003 on XP Pro and have been trying to use the application.onkey sub to try and introduce the 'enter' key to try and make things easier
but......not winning (aaaagh)

VBA- Can't Paste Into A Newly Selected 'activecell'
I am new to VBA and was just wondering if there is logic behind this or am I doing something wrong....

ie,

1 Cells(1,1).Select
2 Activecell.Copy
3 Cells(2,1).Select
4 Activecell.Paste

The above doesn't work but if I use the same above 3 lines with

4 Activesheet.Paste

it does work

What is logic here as to why it can't paste into a newly selected 'activecell'?

Restrictions On Drop Down List If Cell Is 'a' Then Other Cell Must Equal 'b'
I have two cells, both of which have drop down lists for options 'a' & 'b'. When one equals 'a' the other should be restricted into only saying 'b' and vice versa. I would also like the user to be reminded that he can only select 'a' once from the two menus. Ideally I would like to do this in a formula rather than VBA?

I need to VBA code that will loop through the active sheet for all rows, column C2 through however many rows there are. Col C contains a date in the format: mm/dd/yyyy. Error 1004 Method 'Range' Of Object '_Worksheet' Failed
I have a cet of CommandButtons on sheet 1. The code for these buttons is in the code section of the sheet. A named range is referenced in this code. This named range is on sheet 2. Every time I try to reference this or any named range (from any other sheet), I get this "Run-time error '1004': Method 'Range' of object '_Worksheet' failed"

The last time I had this error I was able to fix it by moving the code to Module1. I tried that here, but it did not work (I can't figure out how to call it from the sheet). CommandButton. Here is the code from the sheet for one of the buttons:

Both 'Private Sub Workbook_Open' And 'Auto Open' Run Sequentially
I have built a complex vba & multisheet spreadsheet that I am looking to secure against all the common attacks. So I have:A Workbook Open pw;
VBA password (29 symbols/numbers/Caps/lower case)
Very Hidden worksheets
Hidden rows/columns
Restricted scroll areas
Workbook protection
Code that auto protects all sheets upon opening
Registry referencing in Workbook Open with timed closure if not matched
Now I am on the last leg of implementing protection against Application.EnableEvents = False; force enabling of Macros and hiding of toolbars, scrollbars etc... Phew.

Soooo, in my research, I have learnt that if EnableEvents = False, Workbook_Open is essentially skipped and the security VBA routines are disabled. To get around, I have copied the entire contents of the Workbook_Open routine to a module under Auto_Open. The first line of both these scripts is: Application.EnableEvents = True.

Works! So far so good.
However, I have a Msgbox prompt in the scripts that displays twice. So in essence, Excel is running Workbook Open first, then Auto Open second.
If I open another instance of Excel and run Application.EnableEvents = False first before opening my spreadsheet, I only get one message. So only the Auto Open script runs.

Method 'Range' Of Object '_Worksheet' Failed Error
I start in my "Action Plan for For Single Market" worksheet and if I click on the Command Button I then want to read in a couple of variables, and jump to a second worksheet (called "Market Action Plans") where I then want to copy a range, and then paste it in another area in that same sheet.

I thought I had worked out what to do, but when I execute I get a "run-time error 1004" when the macro gets to the "Range("Updated_Results").Copy" line. Excel describes the error as "Method 'Range' of object '_Worksheet' failed'" - which might as well be a foreign language as far as I am concerned!

Network Printer 'ActivePrinter' Of Object'_Application' Failed
I am having trouble printing a page to both a local printer (which works fine) and a network printer (which does not work) Both printers are installed on the Computers. The error message I get when I try to run the macro is Run-Time ERror '1004': 'ActivePrinter' of object'_Application' failed. The codes that I have used are

Method 'Add' Of Object 'CommandBarControls' Failed
The following code below was very kindly created for me by someone approx 12 months ago and I have been using it without any problems at all.

The purpose of the code is to creates a new Menu/Title item named "Quality" on the main Excel menu bar at the top of Excel and place it between the "Windows" and "Help"

This new Quality menu then has further drop lists which i can add as suited.

Two days ago i started getting the following RunTime Error everytime i open Excel and i can not longer get the new menu "Quality" to show on my Excel menu bar.

I'm currently working on a fairly complex VBA project in Excel 2007. Basically though, I'm downloading information from a site, massaging it, creating a lot of graphs, saving them locally, deleting the chart from excel. I then save a copy of the workbook to a local file, clear the Spreadsheet, and then Do the same for information from another site.

When I had all of the code in one Module and ran it as a macro it ran flawlessly.

Now i've put the information into a Class. And am pretty much running the same process via a UserForm.

I copied this code from a prior worksheet and the range was not split (i.e. just "$a" & item & ":$c" & item). When I try to make the range selection grab two separate areas, I get the above listed error. Do I not have the quotations right? I have tried them several different ways. Not sure what else to try.

Macro Data Dump Of The Date When I Hit 'update'
I have a model which I have created a macro for that will do a data dump of the date when I hit 'update' (on BBG Raw Data Tab) to Column A in the 'Data for Pivot' Tab.

This works fine and all of the data comes over, except the last two data points in BBG Raw data (Cell A5055 and A5056) do not come across into the 'Data for Pivot' Tab (these should be going into Cell A5054 and A5055 of the 'Data for Pivot' tab).

Method 'value' Of Object 'range' Failed
I have a while loop in which I'm updated information in 2 separate worksheets. I'm using the With-block statements separately to update each, but after the 30th iteration (and it's always on the 30th), the VBA code halts and get the "method 'value' of object 'range' failed" error message pointing to a line with the code as follows:

where "intMonths" is an integer variable which I'm populated properly, and "lngRow" a long variable. When I debug both variables have proper data in them, and I have no idea why this is bombing.

Tip To Show 'last Saved' Date On Worksheet
how I can have the latest date a file was saved showing on the worksheet? For example, I open a worksheet that was last saved on Sept 22nd, and after updating it today, I save it and want the date to show today's date?

Code To Generate 'date' Ref Number
each time a button is clicked I want a new ref number to be produced and displayed on my userform.
I can't however create the code to generate this ref number.

In column A of my 'sweeplog' worksheet is where I want the ref number to be placed. This ref number is simply made up of today's date - in format ddmmyy eg 240408 for today 24th April 2008 then add the number '1' if its a new date or the next number in coulumn A if not.

for example In column A I have these 3 ref numbers
A2 = 2404081 (24th April 2008 plus 1 as this is the first ref used today)
A3 = 2404082 (as above but with 2 added)
A4 = 2404083 (as above but with 3 added)

now tomorrow the next ref number that would be shown in column A (after the user clicks the button) would be as follows.....

A5 = 2505081 (25th April 2008 plus 1 as this is first ref used on 25th)

I am able to get this unique ref number to show in my userform but can't figure out how to produce the code to generate it

How To Use A 'date Field', Specifically In A Chosen Column
Need to know how to use a 'date field', specifically in a chosen column, (lets say column C) that will transfer an entire row of information to another tab - next in line.

Select A Range That Will Be Changing By Column: Method 'Range' Of Object '_worksheet' Failed
I'm trying to select a range that will be changing by column. I'm not sure why my syntax isn't working. What I've got:

Now everything works good with this code unless there is nothing copied to paste. In that case it will go to a "run-time error'1004' " I would like instead for a msg box to appear saying "You must copy required data first"

VBA Replace Method Retains 'Within Workbook' Setting
I am selecting a block of cells to apply numerous "Replace" functions to.
So I use the Selection.Replace command - for example:

Selection.Replace What:="Street", Replacement:="", LookAt:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, MatchCase:=False

if I have been working with Excel previously and did my own "Replace" and applied it to the entire Workbook (i.e. changed the within field from ' Sheet' to:
"Within: Workbook"

Then that field stays set to "Workbook" for subsequent Replace activities, including my VBA code !! Therefore if I do not manually go back and run one "Replace" and set the within field back to "Sheet", the VBA code will apply my Replacements to every sehhet and every cell in the entire workbook. Even if I have selected a Range of cells before issuing the command !! It ignores the selected Range and runs the "Selection.Replace" for the entire Workbook.

The "fix" I found on another site is to run a dummy command:

Set dummy = Worksheets(1).Range("A1:A1"). Find("Dummy", LookIn:=xlValues)

Which works. However, I am looking for a way to add a parameter to the "Selection.Replace" command that will cause it to search using the "Within: Sheet" setting. Otherwise I always have to remember to add that dummy line of code for every single Selection.Replace line of code.

Web Style 'Back' Button VBA Code
I have been trying to get a back button to work on an 2003 excel document that works like a website.

In the web toolbar there is a facility to go back and forward (very much like using internet explorer). I want a button on the actual sheet that does this command. If i record a macro and click the web 'back' button it records the end result of the process, not the process itself -

eg if sheet 1 and sheet 2 link to sheet 3 and I click a hyperlink from sheet 1 to sheet 3 then create a back button on sheet 3 and record a macro by clicking on the web toolbar back button the macro records the end result - eg Application.Goto Reference:="Sheet1!R14C8". However if i then go to sheet 3 through sheet 2, the back button I created takes me to sheet 1 not back to sheet 2.

Anyone know the code I could use to make it actually go 'back' to the previous page?

VBA - Saving An Email Only After 'Send' Is Pushed?
I have a spreadsheet that automatically creates an email (based on code from rondebruin.com and some manipulation from a consultant) and initially would just save a copy of the message on our network (for records purposes) as well as sending it.

However it occured to me after that there will be times when attachments are required and as such for archiving purposes it really needs any attachments to also be saved as part of the email. What I believe to be the relevant code is shown below:

The thing is it is storing the email at the same time it opens it for display. As such any attachments would be made post save. How would I go about getting it to wait until after attachments have been made (presumably once it detects the 'Send' button has been pushed on the email)?

VBA Button To Clear 'unlocked' Cells
I'm putting together a time sheet that can used to calculate total hours worked by department etc. I plan on protecting the worksheet and only allowing certain cells to be selected and data entered.

Is there a way using VBA to place a button on the first spreadsheet that will clear all cells that are 'unlocked'?
