Variable Data Into A Drop Down List

Dec 22, 2008

Is it possible to have the value in one cell determine which cells to "data validate" for a drop down list?

Example - I have three different Ports of Entry with different arrival dates.

When the user inputs the Port of Entry into a cell can I create a drop down list that shows the data related to that individual port?

Drop-Down List With Variable Range And Hiding Blanks

May 4, 2007

I currently have a list on a worksheet named "Options". It is a named range entitled "Type" with rows A2:A500. Another worksheet uses "Type" as a drop-down list. Currently there are only five entries in the list - cells A2:A6. Other items will periodically be added to the list. That is the reason for the long range - up to A500.

In the drop-down list, all of the unused cells in the named range show up as blanks. Is there any way to not have the blanks show up in the drop-down list?

Or...

Is there a way to define the named range as a variable range to enable users to add items without redefining the range and have the added items automatically show up in the drop-down list?

Drop Down List Which Returns Values Based On What Has Been Selected In The Previous Drop Down List In The Adjacent Cell

Mar 19, 2009

I'm trying to create a drop down list which returns values based on what has been selected in the previous drop down list in the adjacent cell, e.g. if 'Apples' is selected in the previous cell then you should only be able to select from 'Gala, Granny Smith', or if 'Oranges' is selected you should only be able to select 'Seville, Blood Orange'. Is there a formula which would do this, or can I use a pivot table somehow? I'm totally stumped.

Fill Table Using Drop Down List Data Selections

Jul 10, 2009

I have a couple of drop down lists of data created from lists as well as fields next to it.

What I want it to do is take that data, which is name, start time, end time, days worked, queue (or work type), and fill the table next to it which is just a 30 minute by 30 minute schedule sheet with days of week 1 and week 2 on top.

I figure it would be easier to have a GO button to do this.

I will attach an example of what I mean, but please, if you guys find that there is an easier way to do this, just let me know, I feel this might involve some code/macros instead of excel functions

Vlookup To Access Data Based On A Drop-down List...

Nov 14, 2008

i have been looking around here and it seems like my problem is similar to many's regarding the vlookup function. to me, what i'm trying to do sounds simple enough, but it can't get it to work. i have a table that has three columns, Item Number, Item Description, and Amount.

Each item has it's own number, a corresponding item description, and ammount (obviously), but there are some repeats. What I want to do it input the Item Description, and have one field automatically pull up the Item number, and the next field, pull up the price. I am using a drop-down list for the Item Descriptions utilizing data validation. here is formula that i have been trying to use that is not working: =VLOOKUP(B2,Sheet1!$A$2:$C$18,1,FALSE). i have attached a trial worksheet that i am using to work things out on.

VB To Activate List Drop Down Boxes When Data Is Entered In A Cell

May 20, 2009

I have a Validation drop down box (column B) and a defined range drop down box (column E linked to the Totals tab with A2-A31 defined as Products) that I need to activate everytime data is added to a new line in column 'A' and cells in column 'B' or 'E' are selected. Additionally, they need to activate if the cells in column 'B' or 'E' are selected for any of the old data so changes can be made. This will help reduce the overall file size and calculation time for a year's worth of data.

There is already some code on the worksheet that looks like it can be adapted if someone knows how to code in the drop down boxes.

Updating Cells Based On Selection From Drop Down List Data Validation

Dec 13, 2009

I'm using Excel 2007. I would like to seek some advise on how i may update cells after selecting a month from a drop down list.

i have created a simplified version of what i intend to have. One the 1st tab 'Cash Budget 2009', i have filled up a table with numbers, sorted by months. On the 2nd tab 'Dec09', i would like to create an expense table, to be able to be selected by month. So i have created a drop down list based on the months that are created in the 1st tab.

Upon selection of the month from the drop down list, i would like the cells to display (fetch) the data from the 1st worksheet. It would also be helpful if the name of the 2nd tab can be updated to read as the month that is being selected.

Return Cell Data From List When Variable Input In Second Worksheet

I want to return the data from a list in a cell on worksheet1 if I input a variable on worksheet2. I need to avoid VBA and pivot tables.

Example, if I put "Expense" in the input cell on worksheet2, I want to return a list of each row that has "Expense" in it on worksheet1:

Worksheet 1 (ColumnA/ColumnB):

Revenue/45,000
Expense/20,000
Asset/43,000
Liability/21,000
Revenue/6,000
Expense/9,000
Expense/11,000
Liability/13,000

Worksheet 2 required output (no row gaps or spaces):

Input cell "Expense" - in A1

List required (A3:B5):

Expense/20,000
Expense/9,000
Expense/11,000

SUCCESSFUL - row has no fill
Tested - row changes to orange
