Workbook_Open() In Separate File

Oct 14, 2008

I have an Excel add-in file (stored .xla format) that is used by a lot of other spreadsheets on a network location because it is modified often, and all workbooks made from a template reference it. everything with that works fine, and any changes made to the add-in file are always reflected upon startup in the workbooks. So there isn't a problem with that. Recently I've had to add a Workbook_Open() sub into this add-in (which I wrote in 'ThisWorkbook'). However, this macro is never entered by any of the workbooks. Is it possible to have a workbook_open sub in another file? If so, what can be causing it to fail (there aren't any errors or anything like that in the sub)?

Separate File Name From File Path

Jun 12, 2008

I am trying to separate a filename from a filepath in Excel VBA 2003.

I am using the Application. GetOpenFilename command to get the user to select the correct file.
However, this also seems to record the filepath.

I am trying to separate the filename out of this so that each file( name) activates a different sub procedure.
I am storing the result of the getopenfilename as a Variant.

At the moment I am having to specify the full path in order to get each sub to run. This is fine for 1 user - but not for others as the files are stored in different locations for each user.

Create A Separate File After Macro Done

Apr 19, 2006

How can I code to create a copy of a worksheet in an excel file I am using a macro on, after the macro is done processing? In other words, when the macro completes processing, create a copy of the worksheet labelled "Output", and save it in a directory that the user chooses? Also, would it be possible to create a .pdf file?

Workbook_open() To Every Workbook

How do I do that? I know you're supposed to put the macro in the thisworkbook module in the workbook, but I have 600 workbooks that needs to be changed. That is just not a good idea. I've tried to put the macro in the workbook called own.xls (I use a swedish version of excel, dont know what it is called in english) thisworkbook,

Workbook_open Yes/No Popup

Nov 18, 2009

I script that on open would pop up asking if a sync was done with an option for yes or no. If yes is pressed then it would just open, if no selected it would give a message "must sync before use" and close the workbook.

I do not want this message to pop up when other spreadsheets are open when this one is still open so im guessing private workbook_open

Workbook_open Not Firing

I am using the following code in my Workbook_Open sub, located in the ThisWorkbook code module. I am enabling macros when opening. All other VBA code in the project is running correctly.

Private Sub Workbook_Open()
Worksheets("Sheet1").init
MsgBox "starting"
End Sub

The init sub did not appear to be running so I inserted the MsgBox to confirm, but that doesn't come up either.

Get Data From Several Separate Files To Appear In Designated File

I have several separate Excel files that are all formatted in the same way.

I want all this data, excluding the header rows, from those separate Excel files, to appear in a new/designated Excel file. - I don't want to keep copying and pasting.

I also want the data, once extracted/copied/exported, to be formatted according the formatting style on the designated Excel file.

Change Formula To Reference New Tab In Separate File

Apr 30, 2012

I have a file that summarizes data by country and by month but then another file with a yearly summary. I need to pull in the same cell references for each month but using each tab's name: 'Jan' tab, 'Feb' tab etc. The problem is every time I tell it to find/replace the tab name, I have to select the file from its location in a browsing box every time. I have also tried the indirect formula without much luck and because I also had to add all the month summary tabs to the original file to get the indirect formula to work. I would rather keep both files separate.

How do I copy over formulas in the Jan column and change the tab reference to the Feb tab for the Feb column without having to change things 200 times for each countries data?

Workbook_Open Doesn't Run On Second Open

Dec 29, 2009

I have noticed this on more than one workbook with an Workbook_Open macro. When you open Excel, open Workbook1, do some work , save or don't save and close, then reOpen Workbook1 without having closed the Excel application, the Workbook_Open macro in Workbook1 doesn't run.

Closing Excel and reopening Workbook1 initiates the Workbook_Open macro. It's as if Excel remembers having previously opened Workbook1 and so it doesn't rerun the Workbook_Open macro the next time you open it.

Disable Workbook_open From Another Macro

Jun 14, 2007

from 1 sheet i am opening several other worksheets and read in the bits i want.
i am finding that on occasions the workbook_open on these sheets is causing great performance issues because of the calc mode set to automatic in the open routine of the individual sheets. i dont need it to be set to auto but the sheet owners perfer it to be set like this and i cant turn it off their sheets. is ther a way of opening a workbook from a macro and then override its workbook_open routine?

Set wb = Workbooks.Open(sSourceFolder & "" & "mySheet.xls", False, True)

i cant find any other switches that i could use to disable this.

Parse Flat File And Enter It Into Separate Cells

Jul 12, 2012

I receive a flat text file every week which I would like to grab with excel and extract only the data I need and enter the data into separate cells and loop until I reach the end of the flat file. I got a subroutine written that allows me to open my text file and it will enter all the data however I need to know how to parse only the stuff I need and enter it into the right cells and loop until I reach the end of my text file. Here is what I have so far:

Sub testFSNew()
Dim fs As Object ' scripting.filesystemobject
Dim txtIn As Object ' scripting.textstream
Dim strFile As String 'File Name
Dim strLine As String 'Current line being read.

[code].....

Now so far this opens the text file and dumps all the data into an excel spreadsheet however when I say all I mean it dumps everything into the first cell and does not separate it, the following is an example of the text in the flat file. I will only put in the first 5 rows because their is 5000 rows in the real file.

00101000099788ROBERT 109109 55523456781999082700000001ELECTICIAN-PROJECT COORD 4

Ok so the first problem is I don't need the first line it's a header line and if you will notice everyline of the file ends with either a 5 or a 4 but it is information about each employee, so the next line would end in a 5 and that would be the beginning of the next employee.

P.S. I noticed in the preview post that this message board truncated my flat file data, so keep in mind that each line is indeed 1 line ending in either 5 or a 4

Both 'Private Sub Workbook_Open' And 'Auto Open' Run Sequentially

Aug 1, 2009

I have built a complex vba & multisheet spreadsheet that I am looking to secure against all the common attacks. So I have:A Workbook Open pw;
VBA password (29 symbols/numbers/Caps/lower case)
Very Hidden worksheets
Hidden rows/columns
Restricted scroll areas
Workbook protection
Code that auto protects all sheets upon opening
Registry referencing in Workbook Open with timed closure if not matched
Now I am on the last leg of implementing protection against Application.EnableEvents = False; force enabling of Macros and hiding of toolbars, scrollbars etc... Phew.

Soooo, in my research, I have learnt that if EnableEvents = False, Workbook_Open is essentially skipped and the security VBA routines are disabled. To get around, I have copied the entire contents of the Workbook_Open routine to a module under Auto_Open. The first line of both these scripts is: Application.EnableEvents = True.

Works! So far so good.
However, I have a Msgbox prompt in the scripts that displays twice. So in essence, Excel is running Workbook Open first, then Auto Open second.
If I open another instance of Excel and run Application.EnableEvents = False first before opening my spreadsheet, I only get one message. So only the Auto Open script runs.

Create Subfiles From Master File Using Key To Split Workbooks To Separate Files

Jun 13, 2013

I am trying to make my macro more dynamic for a spreadsheet I am working on. I have this code which splits out worksheets (using the specific names of the worksheets-not dynamic) from a main workbook into template workbooks (which are basically just an empty workbook because I didn't know how else to do it) and then saves them using the paths below. I would like to make this more dynamic by splitting the different worksheets into new workbooks based on a key column in the hierarchy worksheet.

Basically I have a list of accounts in column B with the file name they should be exported to in column A. There are about 30 accounts being split into 6 different region files. Also note that the same account might be listed multiple times in column A (needed to add multiple numbers for other lookup formulas in the worksheets) but that account worksheet will still only be going to one of the six region files and not to multiple regions. After these are copied to an individual file I would like to save it to a location on my computer. All files will go to this location.

VB:
Sub Create_Subfiles()

Dim FDMName As String
Dim FBName As String
Dim DIYName As String
Dim WMName As String

[Code] .....

Referencing: Export File Arranges The Jobs In Rows With Each Value In A Separate Cell

May 3, 2007

I have a quoting application for damaged vehicles, this application is able to export all quotes and information relating to quotes into an excel sheet. the export file arranges the jobs in rows with each value in a separate cell i.e.

Job #|| Name || number || Parts $ || Total $
1453 || Mike K || 1234567 || 123.00 || 222.00
1533 || John C || 4353456 || 234.00 || 2342.00

Etc

Each job is listed on a separate row as it exports the records from an access database. once the information is exported I need to open another workbook and type in a job number into a cell and have excel automatically reference the relevant job and information relating to that job (all info in the same row) and fill in all the details from the other workbook into the new workbook. Example: the exported file contains 200 jobs, of those 200 i require 20 to view for one week. I have the job numbers of the jobs which I need to get information for. i open up another workbook and type in the 20 job numbers in separate rows and excel fills in the rest by referencing the other worksheet.
