View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a production report card spreadsheet with numerous checkboxes. Originally I also had text boxes for user input - which I have since removed all of and simply unlocked cells for user input (I protect the spreadsheet). My problem is that now that I have removed ALL of the textboxes - I get the error message "Can't exit design mode because Control 'TextBox3' can not be created." everytime I go to lock the spreadsheet after tweeking or upon opening of the file. I also cannot use the checkboxes now because I am stuck in design mode.
Any thoughts on what might be causing this...or better yet...how to stop the error msg altogether? I googled and no answers...some theories that it was a bug with excel2003...but I find it hard to believe as I found posts for the same message of users of WORD2003...so I am thinking it might be VBA related?
I've created a spreadsheet that has a number of command buttons acting as hyperlinks navigating to other worksheets within the workbook and other files. The buttons only function when in design mode and no matter what I try the document will not open in design mode. For ease of use I wanted to avoid training people on how to go into design mode, anyone aware of a work around?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been writing VBA code in Excel for about 4 years, but I am self-taught, so I only know what I have had to learn. Recently, I learned that I could run a macro from a cell formula. I created several hundred cells (on multiple worksheets) that include calls to various macros. I only want to run these when I know they need to be updated, not every time I change a cell value.
I turn on Design Mode and try to modify my worksheet (adding or removing columns, rearranging stuff) and some macro(s), somewhere(?) execute every time. This can sometimes take 15-20 seconds for everything to update.
Did I hit some magic key sequence, somewhere? How is it that some of my macros, somewhere are running with Design Mode enabled (and turning it OFF, by the way)?
I am a happy user of Office 2007 and a casual coder. I am familiar with most of the basics of coding and enabling macos. However today, when I attempted to add some code to a workbook, I noticed that Excel would not actually enter design mode. Even though the design mode button will toggle and stay in the "on" mode, I cannot access VB property panel for any controls, even standard contols. Also, I am forced to CTRL-CLICK objects to select them and then am only presented with standard "Format Control" option, not object properties.
One other odd sympton... I can use the macro recorder to add code to a control (a checkbox for example), but when I try to manually add a line of code referencing that object (using the default name), the VB editor does not recognize the object. For example the IDE would not recognize and code a line for the "checked" property of a checkbox control when I check the box while in macro record mode.
These symptoms suggest to me that there is something wrong with the design mode "switch".
This all used to work fine, but it's been a while and many MS updates to my Windows 7/64 machine (now about 4 years old).
Is it possible to use design mode to create a button for multiples macros?
What i want to do is create like a list, and every selection run a different macro. I have a report that i want to use macro to make different filter selections, it would be about 20 different filters combination, so 20 buttons would be a mess... Is that possible or can i do it in another way?
And is possible to link the filter value to a different cell?
I'm looking to enable changing row height in a protected workbook and am scratching my head as to if there is a combination of checkboxes I need to 'allow', or if there is some other approach.
I'm using a vba macro to change the height of merged cells:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim NewRwHt As Single
Dim cWdth As Single, MrgeWdth As Single
[Code].....
I have a userform with a listbox set to a range of numbers from 1-10, I would like my userform to expand/collapse dependant on the number within the listbox. The problem I am having is the forms height does not adjust from using the toggle controls only when you select back into the listbox itself.
Private Sub ListBox1_Change()
If Me.ListBox1.Value = 1 Then
Me.Height = 180
End If
If Me.ListBox1.Value = 2 Then
Me.Height = 210
End If
If Me.ListBox1.Value = 3 Then
Me.Height = 240
End If
End Sub
I have tried using click/after change events however I get the same response. Am I missing something from my code or should I be using another control (SpinButton for instance).
how to automatically set a text box size to display text contained by right-clicking the textbox and put a check in the auto-size box under "Alignment".
However I would like to set the widht of the text box and automatically adjust the height according to the number of lines of text. Is this possible by VBA code or othe means?
inability to set a default row height and still allow the occasional row that requires more space (i.e., one of it's cells has multiple lines of wrapped text) to AutoFit if necessary.
Say you have the data shown in NormalSettings.png in an Excel file (see attachments) and you want to have a little more room between the shorter rows, but not have them all set as big as the expanded rows. One way to do this in bulk is to select the entire spreadsheet and set a fixed row height, but this chops off any cells that require more space than your default height (see FixedRowHeight20.png). The only way to fix this is to manually scan through your sheet and individually select all rows with cells that need more room than your preferred row height and AutoFit them (good luck if your spreadsheet is any size...) . If you try selecting the entire sheet and choose Format-Row-Autofit, you're back to the crowded display shown in 'NormalSettings.png'.
My workaround to this annoying problem is this: choose a column that you're not using (I just select the very last column in the sheet by holding down CTRL and pressing the right arrow until the screen stops moving) and highlight the entire column by selecting the column header. Then increase the font size for that column...voila, even your blank rows will now AutoFit to the new font size rather than the font size you are using for your data...effectively increasing your default row height without sacrificing AutoFit capabilities. I find that using 16 as a dummy font size makes my data (which is font size 10, Arial) look nicely spaced out, but experiment and try stuff until you find what you like!
I want to set the default row height as 20.0 (not excel's standard 15.0). When I delete the contents in a cell that has Wrap Text property enabled, the row always reverts back to default height of 15.0 and this is too small. Is there a way to chnage the default?
View 6 Replies View RelatedHow do I write a short piece of code that defines the specific height and width that I want to assign to an existing chart. The code will be added to existing code that I have that formats the chart in other ways. This needs to be able to work with any active chart selected, not a specific named chart.

I need two things :
1. I have several columns starting from Column B till Column F, each column having values starting from the third ROW.
Ex:-
Lets say Column B contains two values in B3 and B4, Col C three values in C3 C4 and C5, Col D four values D3,D4,D5 and D6, Col E two values in E3 and E4, Column F five values F3,F4,F5,F6 and F7.
So, the answer is F3:F7.
2.I am using 10^{4,3,2,1,0} in a particular portion of a formula, Now the number of elements in the array or in the Curly Braces depends on the number of Columns filled from Column B as explained in the Point 1.
Now, since I have five columns under consideration I have this order as mentioned here {4,3,2,1,0} , I would like to know whether I could make this dynamic, as in if there were only four columns then this would be {3,2,1,0} and if more this array could self-fill and expand..
If that's possible, then how do we use it in the formula, Is it by the virtue of the INDIRECT function?
I have pulled the mode from the sheet called Daily for cells B5:B33
=MODE(Daily!B5:B33)
I need the second and third most occurring figures, Im not sure if it matters but they are times
I tried this but I don't seem to be getting it right for the 2nd mode
=MODE(IF(Daily!B5:B33<>MODE(Daily!B5:B33),Daily!B5:B33,""))
I already have a couple of VBA commands on my sheet. so I've tried to add:
[Code] .....
but this isnt making the sheet automatically go full screen.
I like a particular workbook to open in full screen mode.
How would I do that?
I was just wondering if it possible to create a macro that permanently increases the height of a workbook by a set increment
I have several workbooks that i have the code below assigned to
[Code] ......
So when they open they resize to that set size and position. and what ive been doing if i need to resize (which is often) is just adjust the values in the above code.
Not that the way ive been doing it is difficult but i was thinking how great it would be if i could have a macro i could run that permanently adds 9 to the .Height and subtracts 9 from the .Top
I am having a hard time setting the MultiLine, Scrollbars and WordWrap properties through programmation. Actually what I want my code to do is to create a set of textboxes in my spreadsheet and then set the MultiLine, Scrollbars and WordWrap properties. Right now I can create the boxes and rename them but I'm unable to change the other properties.
inst_num = Range("AA1").Value
ActiveSheet. OLEObjects.Add("Forms.TextBox.1", Link:=False, _

:=30).Select
ActiveSheet.OLEObjects.Add(ClassType:="Forms.TextBox.1", Link:=False, _
DisplayAsIcon:=False, Left:=100, Top:=95 + (inst_num - 1) * 105, Width:=100, Height _

I am trying to change the text in a textbox which is on a worksheet (i.e. not a vba textbox). I recorded a macro and this is what I got:
Code:
ActiveSheet.Shapes.Range(Array("txtAppBy")).Select
Selection.ShapeRange(1).TextFrame2.TextRange.Characters.Text = _
" Mytext"
I tried to combine them into one line by doing
Code:
ActiveSheet.Shapes.Range(Array("txtAppBy")).ShapeRange(1).TextFrame2.TextRange.Characters.Text = _
" Mytext"
but excel was not happy with me. Is there a way to cleanly write this code?
When I type an 11 into my textbox (in my userform), I believe that the moment I type the first 1, the "event" kicks in. Is there anyway that I can have the change even "wait" until I am finished typing in all the digits of my number?
Code:
Private Sub TextBox1_Change()
Dim prime As Integer, divisor As Integer, currentcol As Integer
Dim faccount As Integer, currentresidue As Long, currentfactor As Long
Dim i As Integer, j As Integer
prime = TextBox1.Value
TextBox2.Value = prime - 1
'Write divisors across and phi of the divisors across at the bottom
Spreadsheet1.Range("c2").Value = 1

I have a MultiPage control that has 67 TextBoxes on it, changes to 14 of these TextBoxes will trigger a public subroutine called TB1Refresh. I have a TextBox and a ComboBox just above the MultiPage control. The ComboBox is set as a MultiColumn. The ComboBox is working. The TextBox is called TB1. The first TextBox on the MultiPage is called TB2. There are no duplicate names on this UserForm. When I scroll though the list in CB1, the values in the TextBoxes on the MultiPage scroll as the they are supposed to. The problem is that every time one of the 14 TextBoxes changes, the subroutine is supposed to fire. Here is the code I use in two of the TextBoxes to fire this sub:
Private Sub TB8_Change()
TB1Refresh
End Sub
Private Sub TB9_Change()
TB1Refresh
End Sub
I put a MsgBox at the beginning and the end of TB1Refresh to see what was happening. They never fired! So the question is, why won't the subroutine fire when called upon to do so. This code was working before I added the MultiPage to this UserForm,
I need to detect when changes are made to a TextBox (Manual changes). In VB 'TextChanged' fulfills that function but there is no equivalent in VBA.
I also need to differentiate between adding a value to a TextBox which has a vbnull value (Does not need to trigger event) and editing or replacing the current TextBox value (Trigger an event).
I have a userform created with 27 textboxes that corrispond to columns A through AA. What I am trying to do is when the form is loaded, I want to have all the textboxes populate with the information accross row 2. Using a scroll bar, I want the user to be able to scroll through the entries so that when the user scrolls down, all textboxes change to the information in row 3, 4, 5 etc.
Ultimatley, this is a data entry form, allowing the user to lookup and edit entries on the page. I can figure out how to do everything I need, witht he exception of the scrollbar.
Textbox background / text conditional colour change.
I have a textbox in an Excel form and wish the background and/or text font colour to be conditional i.e. if cell T45 > T41 then colour is yellow otherwise red.
Textbox and SpinButtons, there is code for changing the date in a textbox by using a spinbutton. I have tried to use some variation of that for the purpose of changing time but to no avail. What my intention is, is that if someone enters 12:00 into TextBox that SpinButton_Up or SpinButton_Down can change the time to 12:01... or 11:59... respectively, and so on.

I am trying to edit a textbox caption in an active chart with a macro and cannot figure out the correct way to reference the text property. I have been successful in editing other items within this chart via the complete code below (i currently have textbox edit commented out)

I know i can set it up with a helper cell to have the textbox reference a range (that updates with the text i want) but i'd to try and edit the text without the use of helper cells to try and make this a little more break resistant.
I have a userform that i have set the showmodal property to false.
This form has a list box that is populated with a huge list of items. I have a textbox in the userform that i use as a filter. so as the user types in something it filters the results in the listbox.
This was working fine but I added to the code to put a tooltip in when hovering over a item in the listbox. (using windows API to achieve).
The problem now is after i type one letter in the text box and it runs the change event it doesnt place the cursor at the end of the textbox anymore to continue typing.
I have tried setting focus to the textbox at the end of the event but nothing happens. I have searched all over the internet with no luck.
