Mar 20, 2013Is it possible to change the format of cell AI3 based on the format of cell C3 and D3? I have C3 and D3 set to turn red based on what is in cell C2 and D2. I would like the following done:
If AI3=C3 & C3 is red, format AI3 blue
If AI3=D3 & D3 is red, format AI3 blue
Otherwise, leave AI3 unformatted.
Possible???

Jan 17, 2014With the click of a toolbar button, I've got my vba inserting a new tab, renaming it, inserting headers and now working on the code to insert all the formulas needed in 12 columns to copy down as far as there is data.
The 4th column D is the hardest. Currently, I'm using manual "Conditional Formatting" to colorize the cells in Col D but need the VBA to place that "Conditional Formatting" code into the sheet so that when the sheet is created, it will hold the conditional formatting feature.
Specifically, the formulas I'm using in the Conditional format wizard are:
Formula: =$B2$D2 then turn the cell red Applies to: =$D$2:D
Copy down (in other words, the colorizing should work all the way down Column D as long as there is data in Col D.

This works very nicely, so that for example if I type the number 10 into cell M33, that cells fill colour becomes black (and the text turns white). Alas I would now also like to extend the fill and text colour to the cell one to the left too. To take this example I would type 10 into cell M33 and cells L33 and M33 would both be filled black and their text would be white. I'm not sure if this requires a change to the code, or if its possible to just have a formula or something which copies the fomatting of one cell into another

Feb 8, 2008i m trying to format a cell so that it colours in red when a specific text is chosen in another cell, ive tried conditional formatting but I cannot get it to work. e.g column A has a drop down list, if GB or IEN is chosen in that cell then cell in column K will become red. (as if these two are chosen then they have to input a number into column K). Once they have inputted the number into column K i want it to go back to its original format. Or if they dont select GB or IEN then it would stay in its original format aswell.

I can 'FIND' the 'P' or 'F' but there may be a P or F else where in the cell so the color may come up incorrect. I'm trying to get it to just look at the first character in the cell. Can the 'IF' be used with CFs?

Etc...
As conditional formatting does not seem to include a number format option I've worked out that I need some sort of macro to change these settings for me, either automatically whenever the value of B20 changes or, more likely, when I manually choose to run the macro.

In my case, I would like to compare the low and high range when inputted as a number followed by the quotation marks followed by space then hyphen, space then number and ending in quotation marks. The quotation mark is being used to represent inches.
Like this in cell D14: 0.2” - 2.2”
I am using the following condition format formula which works for the strict case above.
HTML =OR(D16<LEFT($D$14,3)+0,D16>MID($D$14,8,3)+0)
However, there will be times when users using this spreadsheet may leave out the spaces on either side of the hyphen, or add more than one space between the number and hyphen. Also if additional digits are added, my formula above does not include all the digits in the results. I prefer to leave the quotation marks in...........

Jun 19, 2013I am making some conditional formats for a document. One that I am trying to achieve is have a group of cells have a background color, but once the data has been added, the color go away.
This is what my conditional format looks like: =ISBLANK($A$1:$H$22) and chose the Green fill background. So, my understanding is, the cells should have a green background if they are blank, but go back to a standard format, once cells have data put in them.

Jan 29, 2014I would like to be able to change the color of fill in a cell if there are 3 occurrences in cells. Attached is a sample.
In the attachment, if the cells A2, D2, G2 all have a number "1" in them I would like cell K2 to have a color fill for the cell.
The same would be for the other cells, if B2, E2, H2 all have the number "1", K2 should have a fill in the cell as well, same as if C2, F2, I2 have a number "1", fill K2.
I only want the fill color to be in cell K2 if all 3 of the cells, ex: A2, D2, G2 have a "1" in them. Also, some of the other cells may have a number "1" in them but I would not want them counted unless it is 3 of the consecutive cells.

Finally, only one cell per row to be highlighted so need to overwrite colour fill when new data input in a cell already colour filled.
Conditional Formatting - Data Bars Based On Value From Another Cell Using INDIRECT
Apr 11, 2014I'm running into a problem when trying to use INDIRECT in combination with Conditional Formatting Data Bars.
Basically I want to show a Data Bar in a certain cell based on the value from another cell.
It would be easy if I could simply copy the value from the other cell across into the cell in which I want to show the data Bar. Unfortunately I cannot do this as the values in the cells where I want to show the Data Bars can change.
As a solution when using Conditional Formatting Data Bars I figured out I can simply do the following:
> Under 'Minimum' use 'Type': Number with 'Value': Zero.
> Under 'Maximum' use 'Type': Formula with 'Value': =INDIRECT("B'&ROW())
This will pick up the value up from column B in the same row.
> In column B i then have this formula: =A1/C1. In C1 i have the percentage that the Data Bar should be using. By dividing the value in A1 with this percentage B1 will return a value that is used for the "Maximum" setting which will then ensure the Data Bar will display correctly.
For example: If A1 value is 4 and C1 value is 25%. Then the formula in B1 will return value 16. The scale used for the Data Bar is then 0 to 16. Seeing the value in A1 is 4 the Data Bar will correctly show 25%. If I then change the value in A1 to say 2 the scale used will change to 0 to 8 and the Data Bar will still be showing 25%, which is exactly what I'm after. So effectively this means a value from another cell is used to work out the Data Bar.
So all is fine up until this point. The problem arises when I want to apply this same logic to the rest of the column.
If I change the 'Applies To' to the range I want it applied to all the "Maximum" will only be based on the top row value. I'd expect cause I'm using the INDIRECT reference with ROW() it would have picked up the values from each individual row. I could create a new CF rule for every row, but that's not practical as there are way too many rows.
Why does the INDIRECT function with ROW() not work in this case? How to make the CF rule copy down properly?
Conditional Input In A Cell Based On Data In Two Different Cells And Other Values
Dec 4, 2009I have lot of data in three columns like this. The first column is "Name", the second is "Comment" wherein I want the macro to write some comment, the third one is DOB. The problem is that the names in column 1 repeats many times. I want a macro to write in column B "either Old or Older or Oldest" based on the Name and DOB. Thus David with DOB 13 Sep 1982 be marked Oldest in Column B and David with DOB 25 Aug 1988 be marked Older and David with DOB 24 May 1990 be marked Old. Similarly William and Rita should be marked either old or older or oldest. As the data are enormous I do not want to refer the actual name in the programming. I want to call them using a variable in programming.

I would like to have cell A2 in yellow color 334 days after the date entered in cell A3 and than in red color 365 days after the date entered in cell A3. Same thing for cell B2 related to date entered in cell B3. Yellow color in cells announces that check will expire within 30 days and red color that check has been expired.
