have a set of numbers ranging from 1-25 in column A1-A25 in descending order. I want to have a column B1-B25 which outputs numbers in column A up to a maximum of 5.
Is there a way to make the find and replace function not stop when a cell is too large? Instead, make it pass over the large cells and move on to the next cells? Is there a function that gives the number of characters in a cell? If so, one could sort by cell size and then work around the cells that are too large?
Can you limit the characters inside of one cell to 55 characters? I need this function for eBay's File Exchange Format. I'm sure that there is some VBA code or formula out there that can accomplish this.
how I can ensure that only the letter X can be accepted in a cell? If any other letter or number is typed in the cell or group of cells excel should not accept it & the cell should remain blank?
Is there a way of limiting the amount of characters you can enter in each cell? Also is there a way to apply this to an existing sheet that has cells with more characters in it than I would like? ie. If an existing cell has 25 characters in it, could i cut it down to the first 10?
I am trying to limit the magitude of number entered into a single cell. For instance I want the highest number that can be entered into a cell to be 1500. How can I do this?
I understand that exceeding approx 4000 cell formats causes the message "Too many cell formats" and a freezing up Excel.
Are there versions of Excel (2007?, Vista?) for Windows XP that significantly increase the 4000 limit, and if there are, what are their limits on the number of cell formats?
how I could split a cell's contents into two cells when it contains more than 1024 chars? The code would need to be clever enough to split the data after the nearest full stop before the 1024 char limit.
I would like to limit a text cell to 40 characters. If greater than 40 characters are entered, the rest is truncated. Can this be done without VBA?
I have limited it by going Data - Validation
This has done two things. 1. Gives an error box with Error Alert Turned on. 2. Allows greater than 40 characters to be entered if Error alert is turned off.
Is there a way to limit say a value to be inputted into a cell say between 1 and 10, and to have a warning message pop up if any other values are keyed into that particular cell?
trying to limit the number of characters entered in a cell.
I clicked on Custom then =LEN(A10)=6 which works when i enter more or less than 6 characters, however it lets you paste in something which has more than 6 charters.
I think it's an easy one but for the life of me I can't get around it. ccasionally while re-typing data in fields with the intention of saving-as a new file, an error message appears saying "no more than 20 characters" This happens even when the number of characters is LESS than 20! I have tried clearing cell contents, copying & pasting, re-setting conditions/parameters for columns/rows etc., and nothing seems to work with any consistency. Instead of looking for a work-around solution I'd like to find the actual corrective action.
I wish to limit the number of text characters in a cell and have excel prevent the entry of additional characters after limit is reached. I have tried the Data Validation but it does not preven the entry of additional characters. I want to be able to show the error immediately when the limit is reached and no additional characters are permitted.
I am suffering with split a long descriptions into 3 cells with criteria 1st cell not more than 30 characters, 2nd cell not more than characters and 3rd cell will locate the remaining characters there. I think this is quite easy if I use LEN/MID/RIGHT/LEFT formula. However, I wish the formula will smart enough to split word by word. refer to example below:-
"My lecturer replied, that i really did very bad in final, nothing's gonna change my plan."
If I use left(A1,30) formula, the result is "My lecturer replied, that i re"however, the word "really" is cut half way. I am finding the formula that split description to not more than 30 characters and won't cut my string and become incomplete word. Expected result should be 1st cell "My lecturer replied, that i", then "really did very bad in final," at 2nd cell.
When you want to use Data Validation to limit the entry of the number of characters to a cell does this apply only to the cell that you are entering the characters or can it also apply to a cell that contains a LEN(A1) formula, for instance? Also, does the Data Validation limitation function includes spaces as well? Will the message appear while you are entering the characters (when it has reached the limit) or will it wait until you have hit Enter?
Can I limit the text length in a cell that contains a formula? You may say "Limit the text length in the input cell". That can't be done because the formula in the resultant cell takes text from two other cells in addition to the input cell. I need to limit the overall text length to, let say, 50 characters.
I have a UDF for a lookup_occurrence formula (thanks to Dave), and I was wondering if it was possible to tweak the range it looks at with if statements.
I have a formula like this =Lookup_Occurence(B13, INDIRECT($N$5), 1,1,5) where N5 says exit card 1.
I need it to only look at a certain rows within exit card 1 depending on the value entered in I5.
If value I5 says Period_1 it will only look in rows 12:46.
If value I5 says Period_2 it will only look in rows 48:82 etc.
I believe I need to modify the xl look part of the code with if statements.
Below is the code. I am wondering if I can replace the xlLook line with nested if statements. If I5="Period_1 then rows 12:46" etc.
Function Lookup_Occurence(To_find, Table_array As Range, _ Look_in_col As Long, Offset_col, Occurrence As Long, _ Optional Case_sensitive As Boolean, Optional Part_cell_match As Boolean)
Dim lLoop As Long Dim rFound As Range Dim xlLook As XlLookAt Dim lOcCheck As Long
I'm a newbie to these forums, but I had a question that I couldn't find an answer to in the search feature. So, I joined and here I go....
I have a whole lotta data (nearly 600 "pages" of data) that I pasted into Excel. Unfortunately, it's formatted poorly and I'd like to make it nice and purty.
What I started to do was to create a 2nd sheet and then do an "=" and then click the spot with the 'group name' and then another "=" underneath it and then clicked the spot with the 'premium' info, etc.
After a couple of these, I figured that I could simply make a formula to help me out with it. Please see the attached screen captures for some detail on my issue.
Can someone help me create a formula or a way to count a certain cell and then 52 cells underneath it and display it?
In any case, what I have is a set of cells that may or may not be filled, and which frequently get changed around. As I need the data counted in a specific way for "shenanigans", I am... getting quite tired with having to manually adjust this whenever my co-workers decide to adjust something (and I have been told that throwing bricks at them until they stop is not a valid option).
Basically, I want to count the cells in a way so that for every time a cell is filled, a counter repeats the previous number before continuing the sequence.
I.e
Dog 1
Rat 1
[code]....
My issue is that I have no idea how to get this to count right. I know the theory of how I want this to work, but I just have no idea how to get it to function. The logic of how I want it to count is below, but, again, I just have no idea how to go about getting it to work right without manually typing in the counter, and without ending up with the code working wrongly when there's two filled cells at the top.
I copied the macro and it works on text files, but will this work if you have a .csv file or does it have to be text? What I have is an extra large .csv file that needs to be broken up into a couple of sheets.
I am running a formula on a large data set and need the returned value to never be less than zero or more than 100. using the MIN and MAX functions, but how do I use them both at the same time?
I'm adding some necessary code to the beginning and end of some cell contents in Format | Cells | Custom and I seem to be coming up against a character limit.
I'm using the phrase "!!<"@">!!" to add the code, but with some cell contents the result is ########### (but much longer), and I'm having to remove some of the text to make it work. The limit seems to be around 255 characters.
I have a formula that adds two numbers. Here it is:
=IF(E10="","",(E10+$C$8))
I don't want the numbers to be more than 360 when added up. When it reaches 360, I want it to start over from zero. Instead of, say, E10 = 200 and C8 = 200 ... I don't want the answer to be 400, I want it to be 40.
I have a workbook with 3 sheets. Sheet 1 contains a month of data with Customer Name and Product Code, and quantity shipped (columns A, B, and C). Sheet 2 contains Product Code and quantity produced (Column A and B). In Sheet 3, I have the customer name listed once by running a pivot table against the data in Sheet 1. I need to show the quantity produced for each customer in Sheet 3 but not exceed the quantity produced for that Product Code in Sheet 2 even if the quantity shipped was greater. For example:
Sheet 1 Customer A - 100 shipped of Product Code X Customer B - 200 shipped of Product Code X
Sheet 2 Product Code X - 150 produced
Sheet 3 Customer A - 100 total Customer B - 50 total
Customer B would only be allocated 50 as there was only 150 produced and Customer A was allocated 100 of the total 150 produced, leaving 50 to allocate to Customer B.
