How can I break the link between a chart and a worksheet? If I change the name of the worksheet and try to use the chart I got an error that the current worksheet is the one that the chart is related to. I tried changing the source from the links option in the bar - no effect. I checked conditional formatting - also no effect. How can I break all existing links between the sheet and the macro?
I have an unwanted link and I can't remove it. I have tried through the Edit Links dialog box, searched for [ in formulas throughout the workbook and gone searching manually for the reference but to no avail.
I'm looking for syntax to break all links in a workbook using VBA. I've found the below through independent research but I'm receiving a type mismatch error.
Code: Sub BreakLinks() 'Macro Purpose: Break all links in the active workbook Dim vLinks As Variant
I've got a file that is currently linked to two other files. The links are summed in the cell as below:
='[Book1.xls]Funding and Interest'!D$17+'[Book2.xls]Funding and Interest'!D$17...and so on.
I want to get rid of the link to Book1, so I'd zeroed the values in Book1 and my plan was then to Break the links to this, leaving zeros and the links that I want, but because both files are linked in the same cell (the same nested SUM), when I go to Edit, Break Links, it breaks the links to both files, even though I only select one form the list.
Somehwere in a review of your book, it referred to an add-in that attempts to break all links to a workbook. I looked on the site (microsoft) with the provided URL but could not find it. Is it still there? Does it work for EXCEL 2002?
I copied 2 worksheets from one file to another and went in to "Edit Links" and changed the source to itself rather than the original file which took away those links in the cells that the original file was present in, but it still gives me a dialogue when opening the file that links to the original file. I go back to "Edit Links" and press "Break Link" but it doesn't seem to remove the link to the original file. If I click on "Connections", none are present. I clicked on "Startup Prompt" and set it so that it wouldn't annoy me with the prompt any more, but I'd ideally like to not have any reference to the original file.
Last week I copied a worksheet from one spreadsheet into another, and have since been working from the new one. When I open the file I get a message box asking if I want to Update links from the other workbook. But I've deleted all named ranges, formulae, shapes, everything that could possibly link to the other workbook. I've also (in my frustration) completely deleted the sheet that was originally copied and re-made it from scratch. But it STILL comes up with this update box. In Excel's Help it says to go to Edit/Links and press Break Link, which I have tried but it doesn't do a thing. The link is still sitting there in the display box in the Links window - it says that the Type is Worksheet, I don't know if this makes any difference that it's not a formula or anything?
Also, in complete desperation when it wasn't deleting the link, I changed the source to a random file, so it now comes up with an error in updating (which it obviously would) however this doesn't have any effect on my file because as far as I can tell it no longer has links to the other file! I'm tempted to just go to the option that says don't show the Update prompt on opening (the file is to be handed in as coursework on Wednesday) but this doesn't solve the problem, only bypasses it! Each time I made a major change (e.g. recreating the copied worksheet, changing the source) I saved the file under a different name, so I have all old copies just incase I've completely messed it up!
I am new in VBA, but I have a short procedure to break all external links in the currently active workbook. Is there any option to firstly update all external links and only then break them?
Sub BreakLinks() Dim Links As Variant Dim i As Integer With ActiveWorkbook Links = .LinkSources(xlExcelLinks) If Not IsEmpty(Links) Then For i = 1 To UBound(Links)
I have a workbook that archives by date and is saved for 1 month at a time. At the end of the month, all the archived workbooks are moved to another location and are no longer needed.
The problem I am having is I don't know how to break the link between the master and all the saved workbooks. So when I open the master it is looking for the old workbooks in the folder location and they do not exist. How do I break this link?
I'im using an index - match - match formula with links to an external file.
Everything works fine until I close the source workbook. At that moment the liks break. The error I'm getting is #REF!.
I suspect the reason is that the source data are in form of an official table. I tried some formulas with data in the same workbook but outside the table and they keep working after the source file is closed.
I really want to keep the source data in a form of an official excel table.
I have several hundred workbooks which are linked to a master workbook from where the workbooks draw their information. Now I would like to break all the links in all of the several hundred workbooks to this master workbook and retain the information. Is this possible without having to open each workbook individually and break the links via the 'edit links' option?
I have developed an application (all written in Excel) that can do comparisons between up to 5 scenarios (A.... E, with A being the Master that the others are compared to. Any one can be designated “A”.
All scenarios are the same format, and all have an identical Transfer Worksheet, to enable the transfer of data from the others to A for comparison to A. So, for A the transfer worksheet becomes an Importer, wherein the user pastes-special – link into array, always B21:E35, one column at a time, for each of up to 4 scenarios B…E.
For the others, Transfer worksheet becomes an Exporter, available for the user to copy the data from each of scenarios B….E, always cells B41:B54....
I found a topic here that wanted to know how to remove links, I wanted the same thing.
I found an add-in that identified and could remove any links in the workbook depending on the response to the dialog box. So far, so good.
But it found a link that was located on another page, this link was linked to a third workbook. But what the link is doing or what its association is w/ the other workbook is a mystery. How do I see what this link's purpose/function is?
I have a workbook with multiple sheets where the view for each sheet is the Normal view.
If I print the entire workbook, the active sheet changes to the Page Break Preview view after the printing finishes.
I have to then reset the view back to Normal.
I don't know why the active worksheet is changing. I don't want to annoy the people who will use this workbook by making them change back to normal view after each time they print.
I have "inherited" an Excel workbook from someone that is really unwieldy in presentation and difficult to read. I want to break it down and reorder some of the tables and information. To do this I need to copy/ cut parts of different sheets into others. When I do this, I'm finding that I get reference errors even though the source documents are the same.
I was wondering if it is possible to update links from one worksheet to another that contains a running tally - even when another worksheet is added and needs to be linked to the running tally as well?
I have attached a sample workbook. What I have is a summary sheet ( Sum Hrs CMS) that has SUMIF calculations for a series of rows in the Estimate Sheet.
The problem that I have run into is - when you press the Add New Sheet button on the Estimate sheet, it copies hidden sheet and inserts it at the end of the workbook, however I then need the hours in the CMS portion to link to the summary sheet. What I was wondering is how do the links on the 'Sum Hrs CMS' sheet include this new sheet and the data that is entered on it?
I am try to copy a worksheet "exactly" from one workbook to another, i.e. all formulas and range names reference the new workbook and not link back to to the workbook they were copied from. The code below brings the formulas and named ranges over still referencing the source workbook: SourceWB.Sheets(sht).Copy after:=TargetWB.Sheets(sht)
I have a template file which has a reference to a cell on a sheet in another workbook.
I need to copy this template to 250 workbooks. However, everytime I copy this template sheet into a workbook, it updates the reference to the template name! Is there an absolute reference I can use for the sheetname?
So for so good, but when I copy Sheet2 to a new workbook, I need to have the exact same reference; ie. Sheet1$A$1 and NOT = ['C:Workbook template']Sheet1!$a$1
Upon opening after "Enable" is selected the workbook attempts to locate several nonexistent pieces of data, either internet based files or network based files. Requested data appears to be about 11 years old and would not be applicable it located.
Edit Links shows the location of the requested files, i.e., E:filename but does not show the location within the document that causes this request. A search for "E:" does not locate text in any worksheets.
The question is how to delete or turn off this problem which slows opening, saving, and recalculation of a large multiple worksheet workbook.
how to protect a worksheet from editing and at the same time allow all data source links within the sheet to be refreshed? I need my users to be able to refresh all data links as required but not be able to change the worksheet in any other way.
The code which you provided works fine no problem for a page break. I need to run the macro for the page break by asking the input file for page break to be done.
For Example, If excel filename "A" contain the code which you have given need to ask to input the filename "B" and process need to be done in file "B".
I have added some code to your code which you provided but it gives error message "1004" "Method 'Range' of object '_Application' failed" at following line :
Set rng = oExcel.Range(Cells(2, 2), Cells(Rows.Count, 2).End(xlUp))
I downloaded an Excel template from Microsoft and I noticed that it had a dedicated worksheet with a chart in the middle. The area around the chart was gray and didn't contain cells.
I've attached the template to this post.
How can I add this type of dedicated chart worksheet to one of my workbooks/
I'm trying to loop through a worksheet where each row is an individual record. I need a macro to read the row and create a chart on a separate worksheet for that row, then move on until a chart has been created for each individual row. In English the problem is:
Read Row 1 Create chart based on row 1 data in new worksheet 1 Read Row 2 Create chart based on row 2 data in new worksheet 2 And so on
I'm looking for a "best of breed" technique to make charts automatically reference data selections on the current worksheet. While I can manually key in a substitute name to reference the new worksheet, this is tedious. The chart "Edit Series" dialogue window refuses to accept a reference that doesn't include the current sheet name.Does anyone know if there is a "relative cell reference" SYNTAX that works with "select data" ranges when defining chart series?Or can someone suggest a macro that can be used to modify multiple chart references to point to current sheet, since the standard " Find and Replace" doesn't seem to interrogate the contents of charts.
Additional problem description detail:
I'm creating numerous custom charts in a " boilerplate" worksheet, each chart references adjacent data. Is there some way to make these charts reference the "current sheet" automatically when my "TEMPLATE" worksheet is copied to a new worksheet? Whenever I copy the boilerplate worksheet, the series definitions continue to point to the abolute name of the original worksheet: =TEMPLATE!$GD$398 While I can modify references manually (e.g. edit to =NEWSHEET!$GD$398), this is time consuming.
able to keep a chart stationary while scrolling through a worksheet entering data. A few points:
1) 'Freeze pane' wouldn't work for me since the chart is too large and I'd prefer to have the data sheet unfrozen for easy perusal.
2) I saw mention of opening a separate window with the chart in it, while having the workbook window aligned next to it. I don't know if that can work, but I'd also prefer to just have the chart on the worksheet and stationary.
