Reference Fill
Aug 10, 2009I would like to fill down references in a column this way: =A1 =A2 =A3 consecutively. Is there a way to do this?

View 7 RepliesI have some information in a column where I have different types of references in each cell with some blank cells in between. I am trying to write a macro that will go down the column until it gets to a cell containing the reference "THIS PAYMENTS" and then copy that cell reference down until it reaches a cell containing "Y-T-D AMOUNTS".But I want the loop to carry on until it reaches another cell containing THIS PAYMENTS.I want this to repeat for about 3000 rows See here before and after result.

I'm trying to use relative references and am have having trouble with selecting a range for the fill down command.
I'd like to copy a formula down in the last column from row 1 to the last row with data. Column D is static so I can always use it to find the last row. The last column will vary; sometimes it might be G another time it might be X. I'm able to get the formula entered into the proper cell but I can't figure out how to select the range for a fill down.
If I was not using relative references and cell X1 always had the formula then Id code it like this:
'*** Find last row with data
Range("D1").Select
LastRow = Range("D65536").End(xlUp).Row
'*** Calculate length of cell in previous column
[Code]....
It's the last range statement that stops me. I haven't come up with a variation that allows me to select a range from the cell on the first row of the last column and select the last row with data for the same column.
Any other way of subtotaling data. I am an inventory analyst and do monthly/quarterly totals and averages of inventory used, and need a quick way to fill the blank cells with the part # that is below them, as shown below. I need the part #'s so I can then use CONCATENATE() and pull data from multiple time periods so the part #/year will match up down the page.

Is there anyone who can suggest a solution to my problem below ?
Basically, what I need is a macro which would ideally work like this:
if D32 = 1, then the background colour of D4 should be red
if D32 = 2, then the background colour of D4 should be orange
if D32 = 3, then the background colour of D4 should be yellow
if D32 = 4, then the background colour of D4 should be green
And then I plan to use it for columns E, F, G
I am trying to fill in reference cells horizontally but fix the column and increasing the row number as it fills. For examples I want to start my refence as "=A1" in cell B1. I want to copy this reference horizontally to column Z1 but want the refences to be A1, A2,...,A26. Excel only seems to increase columns when filling horizontally and rows when filling vertically. Transpose works but it's an array which would slow the spreadsheet down.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to insert formulas to my cells in different columns and then fill down the formulas as many rows as in the reference column. So far I have put my formulas in a macro but I seem to get problems with " and ' symbols. My macro looks like this:
Sheets("Sold Articles Database").Select
Range("U3").Formula = " =VLOOKUP(LEFT(K3,2),'Input Variables'!$A$48:$B$52,2,FALSE)"
Range("V3").Formula = " =VLOOKUP(K3,'Product datas'!$A$2:$C$10000,3,FALSE)"
Range("W3").Formula = " =VLOOKUP(K3,'Product datas'!$A$2:$D$10000,4,FALSE)"

I would like a macro that when run, finds empty cells in a column within the used range and fills them with the same formula in the other cells in the same column but relative to the row.
I have a basic understanding of VBA so if someone can set me on the right track i'll have a go myself as i appreciate this would take a while to write out from scratch.
how to enter data in non-adjacent cells using a fill command.
Here is what I am trying to do:
in the column, I am holding ctrl button to select every 10th cell down the sheet. I need to enter a date in every selected cell that is exactly 7 days apart, i.e., 11/7/08 then 11/14/08 then 11/21/08, etc.... but no other dates or data.
I have tried to figure out a way to do this other than manually, but am confounded.
Is there anyway to automatically fill the empty added cell after inserting a row without using the fill handle? For example, for a series of numbers: [URL]
2. Drag the fill handle Selected cell with fill handle across the range that you want to fill.
Or running balance: [URL]
2. Extend the running balance formula into the new rows by selecting the last cell in the balance column and then double-clicking the fill handle.
I am currently working on a project and want to use a picture of a cauldron and have that filled in as opposed to a bar graph filled with cauldron pictures. Is this possible? I picture something similar to how someone would fill a picture on a piece of paper until they hit their goal.
Secondly, If I need to do a bar graph I know I can do conditional formatting on the values within their cells but can I create this formatting specifically to the graphs themselves?
I have encountered some difficulty in modifying a macro I wrote into what I need. I created a macro that searches a column (Column C) for a cell value of, "stop", and then it copies everything above that cell and pastes it onto another sheet. In the sample data set that I was using, "stop" first occurred in cell C541, so the macro copies C1:C540 and pastes it onto another sheet. The problem is that the macro created an absolute reference to C540. What I desire is for the macro to use the 'Find' function to locate the first occurrence of, "stop", offset one cell above that cell, and then reference the active cell (which was positioned by these last two steps) in the range that should be copied. Basically, I'm hoping to have cells C1 through the active cell copied and then pasted onto another sheet.
Code below.
Sub FAIL()
'
' FAIL Macro
'
'
Sheets("Reformatted").Select
Columns("C:C").Select
Selection.Find(What:="stop", After:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlValues, LookAt _

A 'Days Attended' cell (N8) and a 'Days Absent' cell (O8). N8 needs to count the number of "Present" values there are on another worksheet. The other worksheet has dates across the top and names down the side.
When i use
=COUNTIF("Attendance!C9:Z9", "Present"),
and the next date comes along the formula changes to
=COUNTIF("Attendance!D9:AA9", "Present")
ie. the reference moves a column across - the new date's absent or present is not counted. Using =COUNTIF(INDIRECT("Attendance!C9:Z9"), "Present"). is no good because when i add a new name i need the row reference to move down as a row is inserted. ie. both person's formulas count the same row. So, my question: I need the columns to stay the same - C:Z (leyway for future dates) and the rows to change as i insert or delete people from the system.
Is there some easy way to fill out column B referencing column A, but only incrementing by 1 row in A every 2 cells in B?
Example:
Column A:
A1 = 1
A2 = 2
A3 = 3
etc...
Column B (I would like to fill this, referencing column A):
B1 = A1
B2 empty
B3 = A2
B4 empty
B5 = A3
etc
I have a table that displays data from another worksheet. This is what the cell reference behind the table look like:
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have lets say 12 months of data. I have formulas that reference the latest 6 months. When I insert a new column to input a new month, how can I make the formulas include the new months without manually updating them.
EXAMPLE:
12 months of data exist in cells B3:M3 going from B3(oldest) to M3(newest). Formulas reference latest 6 months of data in cells H3:M3. When a new month hits, I insert a column after column M.I would like the formulas to now reference cells I3:N3 which is now the newest 6 months.
Is it possible to reference a cells value to define a range reference?

I am trying to define the row value in the range reference with a value in a secondary cell?
I have a workbook with 1000+ worksheets, all of which have 3-letter names. On a master sheet, I would like to make a query of how many non-empty cells there are on a subsidiary worksheet. This works:
Code:
=COUNTA(ABC!A:A)
What I'd like to do from time to time is input in column A a varying set of 3-letter worksheet names, say
AAB
ABC
CDE
And have a formula in column B that converts this to
=COUNTA(AAB!A:A)
=COUNTA(ABC!A:A)
=COUNTA(CDE!A:A)
I've learned that simply substituting the cell references A1, A2, A3 for AAB, ABC and CDE doesn't work. What do I need to do to achieve this?
=INDEX(INDIRECT('Quote Detail IP'!$C$10&'Quote Detail IP'!$C$5&"!$A:$DC"),MATCH(B1,INDEX(INDIRECT('Quote Detail IP'!$C$10&'Quote Detail IP'!$C$5&"!$A:$DC"),,1),0),MATCH(A1,INDEX(INDIRECT('Quote Detail IP'!$C$10&'Quote Detail IP'!$C$5&"!$A:$DC"),1,),0))
Where
A1= "M16" and B2= "185%RPIT630"
'Quote Detail IP'!$C$10&'Quote Detail IP'!$C$5=QxTermAge63
Can some on tell me why this is raising a Circular Reference!!
I'm trying to loop through a list of about 1300 items and copy the rows where one of the cells has a fill color to 2 different sheets in the same workbook. If there's no fill color, the row moves to a different sheet.
My code is determining that all cells have a fill.
For Each cell In Range("Classification")
If cell.Interior.Color blank Then
cell.Select
Range(Selection, Selection.Offset(0, -9)).Copy Destination:=Range("Compliance")
Range(Selection.Offset(0, -5), Selection.Offset(0, -9)).Copy Destination:=Range("Mstar")
Else
cell.Select
Range(Selection, Selection.Offset(0, -9)).Copy Destination:=Range("RP")
End If
Next cell
How do I change a formula cell reference based on another cell's reference? I'm building a schedule that looks to a task's trigger and adds days based on that relationship. All entries in column "A" will be text and all cells in "B" will be the simple formula "=A2" or "=A3". Due date is calculated by adding the value in "C" to the preceding date in column "D". In the spreadsheet below, the trigger for "Budget set" is "Specs written" with 3 days added to the previous due date.
________A________________B_____________C_________D
1 Task___________Trigger_____________Days_____Due Date
2 Design begins__Proj OK______________10____10-Jan
3 Specs written__Design begins (A2)____5____15-Jan (D2+C3)
4 Budget set_____Specs written (A3)____3____18-Jan (D3+C4)
If the trigger for A4, "Budget set", changed from A3 to A2, is there a way that the formula that determines the due date in D4 could read the trigger cell reference in B4 so that the value in the corresponding row in column "C" is added in the date column?
I have 5 columns set up: A,B,C,D,E
D is the sum of A and B
E is the sum of A,B,and C
As I add in a new column to the right of C (call it C2), I need D (which has shifted over one) to sum A,B, and C.
I also need E (which has also shifted over one) to sum A,B,C, and C2.
Essentially I need a function in a cell that will be able to reference two cells to the left even as more cells are added.
I have the following formula in cell L51 of all sheets calculating the volume depending on the monthly index that is chosen from the drop down menu in a particular sheet. =If(MIndex=0, SUM(D33:L50),If(MIndex=1,SUM(D34:L50),If(MIndex=2,SUM(D35:L50), 0))). I am getting the following message and I do not understand what it is about.
Microsoft Office Excel cannot calculate a formula. Cell references in the formula refer to the formula's result, creating a circular reference. Try one of the following
Let's say I've ended up with the number 8 in Cell D4 for example. Is there a formula that can return the letter "G" (The 8th Column) so I can use it in future cell references ? If so, let's say we store that in Cell B5. How do I now refer to a cell in a chosen Row of that same Column by reference to Cell B5 ? For example if I want to refer to Cell G33 can you refer to this Cell in some form like Cell(Contents of Cell B5;33) ??? Don't want to use R1C1 type references if possible.

Like,
Column A Column B
B6 1
B7
B8
B9 2

B14
B15 4
B7 and b8 is blank above, so want VBA to automatically put preceding value as "1" in B7 and B8. Same way B10 which is blank, have the preceding value 2 to update there. Like wise do for all below. Update preceding value.
I have having trouble here with this code below, as I have fill down range to AM11:AM55, but when i delete or keep adding new rows, an error appears saying out of range. So how can i get the fill down to fill to the last row i have?
how to get this to work without error appearing?

Selection.ClearContents
Range("H11:AM500").Select
Range("AM500").Activate

Range("AM3:AM5").Select

I'm sure the answer is simple, but I can't seem to get it.
B2 = "T1"
I need B3 to be T2, B4 should be T3, etc. I know i can fill this down, but is there a formula or something.
I have a list of SSN #'s. I need to increment them by 1 - but in the middle. For example:
001-01-0001
002-01-0001
003-01-0001
Get it? That third number is the one I need to increment by 1 and fill down the column.
I am trying to type in a number and have it populate in specified areas like on Monday then go to the next Monday an in put of the same value.
View 8 Replies View RelatedCan anyone supply a formula which can be filled down column J of s/s. The formula should look at column H and find those cells where the content of the cell is lower than the one above it. I supply, in the enclosed attachment, three examples and have marked with an X any qualifying cells in adjacent column I. The formula needs to incorporate cells above and below so as to produce a running average whereby no above cell is higher than any below.
