Attached is a sample sheet with nine columns. Column D includes a name, but in many cases it is preceeded by: 'TO', 'BY', or 'OF' and a space which I need to remove (if they exist), leaving just the name. Please note that sometimes just the name exists so nothing needs to be done. I believe that in a jet sql querie I can use something like:
Some code below which I have inherited, basically its looping through one column of data and removing the text at the beginning before the hyphen eg. '123 - data text' to 'data text'.
HTML Code: 'Remove everything before the hyphen in the activity column Dim SearchStr Dim CharOffset As Variant Range("c7").Select
I’ve got a little problem with the text to column function.
I’ve got in column A critarias and if it is for example L it should run a surtain text to column code.
With Range("A1:A65536") . AutoFilter Field:=1, Criteria1:="L" Range("B1").Select Selection.End(xlDown).Select Range(Selection, Selection.End(xlDown)).TextToColumnS Destination:=Range("B2"), DataType:=xlFixedWidth, FieldInfo:= Array(Array(0, 1), Array(21, 1), Array(60, 1)) End With
With the Auto Filter some rows between 2 until 7624 are shown. But unfortunately the text to column code is used for every row between 2 and 7624. Does anyone know how to avoid it?
Every week I have a worksheet compiled with large range of data, being input after many meetings done. The action-owner Names in open/close brackets are among the long text input in one Column (there are not more than 50 rows of data).
My problem is that in the Column every time I have to manually Bold-face the owner names in the cells that have their names, pressing F2 and Bold. Examples: ...(Wilfred)... or ...(Jacky/Joseph)... Can someone please help me with a code, say I can list out a fixed list of selected text and such code will be able to have these selected text (which is names in this case) in the cells bold-faced.
Anyways, the issue is that when I have some cells selected then use the text-to-columns, it works fine.. but when I select an entire column, it "acts a fool"...
I made this video to show the effect on my computer.
I'm having trouble with the With statement near the bottom for the active sheet, effectively the row search. (Would be great if the font can be changed to red as well as text "Withdrawn").
Option Explicit Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
Dim search As String 'stringy Dim ws As Worksheet 'worksheety Dim Answer As String 'answery Dim r As Range 'rangey search = Range("b7").Text 'texty Dim cell As Range cell = Range("4:10")
I merged about 15 adresslists from media contacts to one excel list. Each list had a name i.e. music, health, theater, etc. and the same logic in colums. I added a few columns and have 1 large list now.
As some journalists write about music & health & theater, architecture, etc. they are listed up to 10 times in the new list now. But the "genres" from the original list i.e. music, health, theater, etc. are in different columns. Some of the lines have empty fields (i.e. no address or mail)
All I want to do is have one line with all the information of all 10 lines in it, merged, dupes removed:
company - firstname - lastname - Adress - Mail, etc. : genre: music - health - theater: example.xlsx
I atteched an example of the full list and the result i want
What is the VBA code for inserting text in all column B-cells of multiple selected rows?
I am creating a worksheet with a table containing various data related to orders of various materials (this is more or less data gathering from an older, paper-based 'system'). This table spans, columnwise, from A to D and expands downwards as more orders are added. The information in each column is: A=order number, B=type of material and C=material specs. and D=additional comments.
I've set it up so that the only thing I really have to do is to insert the type of material in the cells of column B, and the rest will sort itself out. Instead of having to insert a new row for each new entry and manually typing in the name of the material (these entries are often done in the midst of already existing data), I created several similar, macroed buttons for the different types of materials we use. These macros work by selecting the row of the currently active cell, inserting a new row and then add the name of the material in the column B-cell of this new row. What I am having trouble doing though, is to get the text-entry to work for a selection of multiple cells.
As an example, lets say that I would like to add 5 orders of "Grade A Steel" in the middle of the table - in the row above row 8. With the macro I currently have I can select cell B5, click the macro, and a new row will be inserted with "Grade A Steel" in column B of this new row. This action could be performed 5 times over, but would be easier if I could just mark a range of 5 cells, say B8:B12, click the macro and get the text/data inserted the column B-cells of all 5 of the new rows. So far I've been able to create a macro that inserts multiple new rows, but I've only been successful in filling the column B-cell in the first row leaving the 4 below empty.
I am using this code to hide or unhide rows of text on another sheet:
VB: Sub ProcessSheet1ChangeOnCellJ7(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim sAddress As String Dim sValue As String
'Get the address of the cell that changed without '$' signs sAddress = Target.Address(False, False)
[Code]....
When the "Not Pursuing" list box option is selected (in cell "J7" or "J8" in Sheet 1) I need to add (or over-write) "Not Pursuing" to the range of cells in column "B" (in the "Tasks" sheet), but only for that particular Goal, meaning a limited range of cells in column "B". If the "Pursuing - Show All Tasks" option is selected for a Goal then these same cells need to be blank so that the appropriate person can enter their name into the cell.
The purpose for adding "Not Pursuing" automatically to these yellow highlighted cells is that it will facilitate filtering of tasks by individual in the "Tasks" sheet..
Again I have tried several times to upload a sample file and am unable to, which I know makes it more difficult to solve. (Is there some common mistake people make? I know it's an allowed format and is very small in file size....)
Code solution can be entered directly beneath:
VB: If Target.Value = "Not Pursuing" Then ActiveWorkbook.Sheets("Tasks").Rows("29:29").EntireRow.Hidden = False ActiveWorkbook.Sheets("Tasks").Rows("30:48").EntireRow.Hidden = True
I have a worksheet that has 8 activex listboxes. Each listbox is tied to the sames list of values (identified as a named range). The named range is a list of countries. Each country should only be selected once, therefore, I would like the selected country(ies) to not show up as a choice when the user makes a selection from another listbox. If this is too hard, maybe we can get a msgbx to appear anytime the users tries to select a country that has already been selected.
I am trying to remove a middle initial from a text string however not all of the cells have middle initials. In column B I would like to return the first and last name. If needed I can have the first name in column B and the last in column C then combine them.
Example John A Smith John Smith John Smith John Smith
Column B represents 600 prices. (different for each material)
Column C represents 107 materials that are present in column A and have to be removed along with their prices in column B.
Now i want to remove the materials that are in column A and C along with their prices, so i won't damage the order in the file.Meaning if i delete a row in A and shift the other materials up or down, and in the same time column B remains unchanged, the remaining materials will have different prices...and that's not good.
I have a column of data which has numbers and units (small example below). I need to remove the text (units) and at the same time multiply the number by a value which is based on what the text is:
I have 2 columns of data which contains mainly numbers that are either 9 or 10 digits long. However some have got so words at he end which is what I want to remove. I thought of using text to colums but there is no space or symbol between the number and text.
An externally generated CSV file gives us one column which shows a location, year and then individual names in brackets, like so:
London 2013 (Firstname Lastname) Delhi 2012 (Firstname Lastname)
I'm wondering if it is possible to separate out the text before the parentheses, so that I can show "London 2012" (for example) in another cell. The number of characters changes from row to row, so using the LEFT and RIGHT functions doesn't quite do the job.
I need only the the data in Cells A1 A5 etc. which means the 3 cells below (A2, A3, A4 ) should be deleted. A5 I need the data, and then A6, A7, A8 I do not need ... A9 need and so on.
the data should be in in one below the next with no spaces in between.
I belong to a fantasy cycling league and after every race, I copy the race results to award each rider their points for the day. The site I visit most frequently lists the riders results in this format:
1. Alberto Contador (Spa) Team Sax Bank Tinkoff 4:05:00 2. Lance Armstrong (USA) Team Livestrong etc... 4:06:00
I usually copy the results to my spreadsheet then calculate each riders points.
The'results end up looking like this in Excel:
1. Alberto Contador (Spa) Team Sax Bank Tinkoff 4:05:00 2. Lance Armstrong (USA) Team Livestrong 4:06:00
So, the data ends up in 3 cells. The position in one cell, the rider and their nationality and their team in another, and the time of arrival in another cell
Is there a way in Excel where I can get rid of or delete all the data after a rider's name?
I usually end up pasting the rider information to Word, then replacing the (***) with a tab symbol, then pasting back to Excel and get rid of the data that's after the name by deleting the cells to which that data was transferred.
Is there an easier way to do this in Excel, or a macro I can create?...

The problem is for those names that come thorugh with the Letter and than the number...I don't need the names like that....I would like a Macro that would look at each cell in column A and remove that from those selected cells. I would like my result to look like this...

I have about 10,000 part numbers all with descriptions. These descriptions do not follow a uniform logic;
============= Part 1: 5x10 Red Cotton candy Part 2: Yellow 6/18 x7 TTC x11 Picture Frame =============
My dilemma is that I need to figure out a way to remove everything aside from the "5x10" and "6/18 x7 TTC x11" from these descriptions. I just need the the item sizing.
What I've come up with so far is sorting items by description and working with batches of similar descriptions, then doing replace "Red*" with "blank". It works but it still takes me too much time and it's not perfect.
My question is there something else I can do that is easier and more accurate?
Any formula for removing text within multiple sets of parentheses?
I would like to take something like this: Compared with placebo, dimethyl fumarate was shown to be effective in the treatment of patients with MS in the phase 3 DEFINE (Gold R et al. N Engl J Med. 2012; 367:1098-1107) and CONFIRM (Fox R et al. N Engl J Med. 2012;367:1087-1097) trials. Common adverse effects associated with dimethyl fumarate that were observed in these trials included flushing and GI events, as well as decreased lymphocyte counts and elevated liver aminotransferase levels.
and have it read: Compared with placebo, dimethyl fumarate was shown to be effective in the treatment of patients with MS in the phase 3 DEFINE and CONFIRM trials. Common adverse effects associated with dimethyl fumarate that were observed in these trials included flushing and GI events, as well as decreased lymphocyte counts and elevated liver aminotransferase levels.
I wish to automate this task so formulas (if possible) are preferred. Totally cool with a multi-formula, many-columned solution - as long as this task is automated.
NB: Each cell will contain different text, so the sets of parentheses will appear in different places. The number of parenthetical sets may also vary from 1-5.
