Return The Top 10 Ascending Text?

Aug 21, 2014

There is a list that contains provinces, a name, and a number.

How can I find the top 10 names in descending order (highest num to lowest) for a specific province?

Eg. Column A
BC, ON, QC, BC, BC

Column B
Mary, Jane, Jack, Rudy, Hank

Column C
8,3,15, 20, 5

Column D
Top 3 for BC: Rudy, Mary, Hank

Lookup Multiple Same Value And Return Multiple Corresponding Value In Ascending Order

Oct 9, 2008

I have a problem with the formula that look up multiple records with the same values and return multiple corresponding values in ascending order. I am using Excel 2003 and it is a bit complicated to explain so I have attached a sample spreadsheet to show what I mean.

What I want was after I have sorted the occurrence value in column E based on column B and I want to correspond the Rank in column D based on column A in ascending order for the same occurrence value in column E.

Eg: There is two occurrences for number 1 at E3 and E4, and three occurrences for number 2 at E5, E6 and E7 in column E. Then the Rank for the first occurrence for number 1 in D3 should be ranking 6 and the second occurrence for number 1 in D4 should be ranking 7, so the Rank for the first occurrence for number 2 in D5 should be ranking 3, D6 should be ranking 4 and D7 should be ranking 9 based on column A and B, etc.

If Cell Contains Certain Text And Certain Text Then Return Predefined Text?

Apr 10, 2013

I'm trying to get something like - If a cell contains certain text AND certain text then display set text OR If a cell contain certain text AND certain text then display set text.

For example:
Vauxhall Corsa 1.5Litre Petrol = vauxhall corsa petrol
Vauxhall Corsa 1.5Litre Deisel = vauxhall corsa Deisel
Vauxhall Nova 1 litre Petrol = vauxhall nova petrol

So it the formula is effectively searching for the car type and the fuel type and then returning the relevant set text. So far I'ver only been able to find IF functions criteria to identify one feature of the text.

I'm thinking it's got to be variation on =IF(ISNUMBER(FIND("Vauxhall Corsa",A1)),"Vauxhall Corsa Petrol") but there should be something else in there like =IF(ISNUMBER(FIND("Vauxhall Corsa"&"Petrol",A1)),"Vauxhall Corsa Petrol")

I know this is wrong but just trying illustrate my thinking. I need it to pick up vauxhall corsa AND petrol. I understand that I would have to stick a lot of IF functions together in a string, but that is fine as long as I can ask it to pick certain text AND certain text within a cell.

Compare Multiple Text Cells To One String Of Text And Return Specified Value

May 12, 2012

I have a dataset of shifts and want to compare each shift that needs to be filled to a list of requests for time off (vacation, etc).

For one cell the code is: =IF(ISERROR(SEARCH(B1, A1), 0,1)

Where A1 is the column of requests in comma delimited forme (ie: "AB,CD,EF").

Where B1 is the column containing the person assigned to shift 1 (ie: "AB")

In this case, would return a "1" as no error was returned, as AB was found in the list. Here "1" would represent a schedule conflict.

Without creating many cells for each shift- there are 20 shifts- can I create an array or string together this type of "SEARCH" function?

Return Text From A Mixed Text/value 3d Array Result

Dec 2, 2009

I've been searching the forums and web trying to figure out how to extract a text value from a 3D array result, to no avail or well beyond my understanding.

I've attached a file which shows an abbreviated version of the search (from the original 49 col x 400 row, which shows the name to date array which can return a sum.

What I'm looking to do is identify within this array result if there has been a text entry, and return the text as opposed to a sum of the remaining values. This is essentially a double check to make certain that there aren't hours scheduled when other events such as vac/loa/etc are also booked.

Partial Text Lookup In Text String And Return

Mar 15, 2007

Cell H1 has a variable string of references for eg
"FI570783AQ3516346EQ3516346FXVB123456"

I want to return the reference beginiing with "FXVA" so it would ignore the rest and only return FXVB123456 - this should always be 10 characters.

Just to add another complication to the mix, there may be 2 "FXVA" references in the string and i want to get both (these can be in the same string so FXVB123456FXEL123456 - but this might not happen regularly.

My formula would be in cell AA4. I want to see if the country in cell B4 is on a list of developed country's on another worksheet. IF the country is found on that list cell AA4 displays Developed. If the country is not on the list, cell AA4 displays Emerging.

I have tried an IF statement using the Match function and it does not work.

=IF(MATCH(B4,'Developed Country List'!$A$2:$A$37,0), "Developed", "Emerging")

VLOOKUP With Table Not Ascending

Oct 13, 2011

I'd like to carry out a VLOOKUP on a list of product. The product numbers contain numbers and letters, some start with several 0's. If i were to convert these product numbers to an actual number, the 0's are removed.

So, when I attempt to place the list in ascending order, it's not really in ascending order - it will start with the part numbers that Excel has defined as a number with everything else afterwards.

Is there anyway I can run a VLOOKUP without having to place the lookup table in ascending order?

I've sorted it by column A. However, sometimes the date is the same and then it doesn't always go right... see f.ex. 17 dec, where the ship arrives in the harbour and then is at sea again and then departs Not exactly what happens. I had the same problem on 28 dec, but there it disappeared when I told Excel to sort secondly on column B.

However, this doesn't work for 17 dec.

When the macro runs, it takes advertise.csv as the 1st. (Thats Ok) then adwords keyword tool.csv data

Ranked Unique And In Ascending Order

Aug 19, 2008

1) List of 500 employees, each allocated an account number where the payroll should be applied, in cells N1 through to N500.

2) Account numbers contain many uniques, ie employees within same department / function

3) require a list of unique account numbers, ranked in ascending order with the budget value, in rows O510 through to Oxxx (depending on how many unique account numbers exist)

4) this happens for 4 companies over 20 spreadsheet tabs for each company for each type of employment cost (each tab has different account numbers)

I know I can do this by manually copying the account numbers to another tab, sort them, remove uniques and then copy the result back o the summary area, for sumif formula, but was hoping for something a little more 'automatic', as these spreadsheets will be provided to payroll staff in each company for completion.
