Vba Code To Extract And Clean Data Based On A Set String Ending
Dec 5, 2013
I would like to extract competition naps from the competition entries and then remove the string ending "nap" from the data so it can be pasted to another sheet in it's 'clean' format.
on the example sheet column B will always be the first column and the range will extend to either G,H or I (always the max range as there are always 6 to 8 races)
i would like the code to search through these columns of data and find the cell ending in 'nap' then to return this in column i, once done remove 'nap' ending from both the source cell and column i.
once done to then go through all the rows and do similar
the end result would be all naps returned into cell j and all the 'nap' endings through the data range B to I (max) to be removed to leave the horses name only.
in book 3 the first row nap was sommersturm so i have shown the outcome i would like with the nap ending in I1 removed and the horse name returned in J1 again minus 'nap' ending.
the data will always be clean with no leading/trailing/excessive spaces and always be lower case too. sometimes a space is not in between horse name and nap but it's always last 3 characters i want removed still.
I have a list of numbers in which I need to return the last 5 digits; the length of the string may vary.
However, if the last two digits of the number ends in a specific value then it should skip over the last two numbers and return the preceding 5 digits.
I have tried and have used the very basic Left, Right and Mid functions. My problem is I dont know how to code the formula to identify the last two digits and skip over them, if necessary.
I have provided an attached example.

I have a macro that copies three sections of data from a word document and pastes it within the Excel worksheet. The column of data is pasted in a single column (data to be space-delimited and evaluated later), and what I would like the MACRO to do is separate the three sections of data based on the starting and ending values of the section and place them in different columns.
Section 1 : starts with the word "Team" Section 1 : ends with the word "City"
Section 2 : starts with the word "Location" Section 2 : ends with the word " Date"
Section 3 : starts with the word "Member" Section 3: ends with the word "Age"
So section 1 would be pasted into cell C1, section 2 pasted into G1 and section 3 pasted into J1.
Each section will have vary in number of rows between the starting/ending values, so to cut and paste the section based on the starting and ending value is vital.
This is column a and b. Looking at b I am looking for a formula that will pull the first capital letter out of each word like ACR to create color codes.
In Column A i have a long list of alphanumeric words , some of them end with a vowel "aeiouy". I want a macro that will go thru the list in A, and check if word in a cell end with a vowel, then put it in B column, so that in B i will have all the words ending with a "AEIOUY".
I am working with a somewhat lengthy worksheet with over 60,000 records. oOne of the columns within the worksheet is the "Account Number" column, which typically consists of 14 numerical characters, but can sometimes have additional or fewer characters. I need to set up a conditional format to pick up any account number that ends in an alphabetical value, (e.g. a through z). The account number is located in column G.
How to modify a custom cell format to make data entry easier.
My goal is to have the output look like this: 'A12B-C20D: SET 10: Text string here'
Inputs needed are:
1-3 digit number between A & B 1-3 digit number between C & D 1-2 digit number after SET Text string of variable length
Where I am stuck. So far I can get "A12B-C20D: SET 10:" to show up properly when 122010 is input. The custom format I am using looks like this: "A"##"B-C"##"D: SET "##": "
When I try to incorporate the "@" symbol the first part of the formatting goes away and the output shows up as "122010 Text string here".
I have tried: "A"###"B-C"###"D: SET "##":";;-;_@ "A"###"B-C"###"D: SET "##": ";;@ "A"###"B-C"###"D: SET "##":";_@ "A"###"B-C"###"D: SET "##": ";;;@
It worked for a short time but now I am having problems running it. I get an excel error that says excel can't continue. Someone said in a previous post that this could be cleaned up and consolidated. how to clean this up. It took me forever to get this right.
I have a string (as below - Call them A1:A4) which I would like to seperate into 4 columns (Call them B1:E4).
I have successfully seperated the first part using MID (It's always 5 digits) but the second part has a varing length which then impacts on the third and fourth parts of the string.... Any ideas?
To add to this I am using the POCKET PC version of Excel which does not have all functions so at the moment I am limited to which functions I can use (Can you add functions to the PPC?).
I am trying to extract the ounces (OZ) data from a string: example, BOX 15OZ 1819106287, CONTAINER 12.3OZ 1818176234. I need everything from OZ prior until there is a space.
I have a file which contains one field showing all of the changes to our data. It shows the Field Name followed by a colon: then the Before value followed by a line | then the After value. If multiple fields changed then they are separated by a semicolon;.
I am interest in extracting the Before and After values for changes to the MP.COST field only. Here are examples of the data:
I have this code, which is primarily built by the record macro utility. I know that record macro does some unnecessary steps such as selecting while inserting columns etc which is generally never done in vba.
Someone sent me a spreadsheet and asked me to clean up the code, which has been going pretty well, but they had this bit of code that is unfamliar to me and is quite bulky, I was wondering if there is a cleaner way to write this bit of code? This is only a very small portion of this particular code that they had in the workbook, so I would like to make it look a bit neater if at all possible.
I have the following code that I use to create individual client files from one master spreadsheet. My problem is that it always creates and saves a blank file with only the 'rn' value in the file name. It seems that it is looping one extra time when the 'rng.value' list ends.
Sub MakeFiles() Dim wb As Workbook Dim ws As Worksheet Dim criteriaRng As Range, usedRng As Range, rng As Range Dim lh As String, ch As String, rh As String Dim rn As String
I am working on code to detect whether a cell contains an even or an odd number in it. I can do this when I know that the numbers I want to evaluate are in cells A1 trough A10 but the next part of the code is for when we do not know how many entries there are and we have to evaluate until we come across an empty cell and then stop.
I have a worksheet with over 10,000 records. The column that lists where a person is willing to relocate can have up to 60 city/state entries in one cell.
Here is an example of what appears in one cell - this is exactly how it appears:
ASAI Los Angeles (XX , CA DFO Pacific (XX ONLY), CA DFO Pacific Area Analyst Laguna Niguel (XX ONLY), CA SAI Los Angeles (XX ONLY), CA Ldr Los Angeles El Segundo POD (XX ONLY), CA Ldr Los Angeles Long Beach POD (XX ONLY), CA Ldr Los Angeles POD (XX ONLY), CA Senior Ldr (XXXX) Washington (XX ONLY), DC
What I need to do is be able to sort on city and state, so I wanted to be able to extract and separate the city and state. I tried using a find/replace (CTRL J) to enter a semicolon between each entry and thought I could do text to columns to separate, but that doesn't work.
How I could extract this information? Notice that the first entry is missing ) - that is throughout the records.
I'm trying to develop a new daily timesheet for my production workers, where non-production items are recorded in 15 minute intervals. The user would put in "Clock in" by the corresponding time, and the same for "Clock out" at the end of the day. Any non-production items will be type in next to their appropriate time. Since clock in and clock out times will vary, I need to set up a formula that searches the array of cells for the day, finds the "Clock in" and "Clock out" values, and counts any blank cells in between them. Basically the blank cells will equal production time, and the result of the Count function will be multiplied by 0.25 to get the hours.
I am having a very difficult time finding a way to set the "Clock in" and "Clock out" cells as the range for the Count function, because it won't always be the same cells. What would be the best way to automatically have excel find the cells containing these values and set them as the range criteria for a Count function?
The formula at the bottom was one of my initial attempts, but it didn't work. I took out the '=' for the screenshot, so that wasn't the problem.
I have a workbook that has ben imported into excel and I need to extract the Cabinet sizes (red text) from ColumnC On Sheet2 leaving out the rest of the info. I have a button on the home sheet that has the code that I am running to generate this report it will do most of what I want but I am stuck at extracting the cabinet sizes.
The data is coming from the SheetComponetListing worksheet and going to Sheet2. I have manually created the end result that I am looking for on the CabinetSize worksheet. [URL]....
(I need to do this using VBA so that it can work as an excel macro and/or a vba function in access.)
How can I extract the first occurance of any substring over a certain character length from within a string ?
eg. My string may take any of the forms given below (or something similar), how can I extract the first set of characters that is at least (say) 4 characters long ? i.e. always get the 'Phillips' out of the below...
Phillips Homes Ltd Mr T A Phillips TA Phillips Homes Ltd T A Phillips Homes Ltd T. A. Phillips Homes Ltd
The names used are only an example (Phillips could be any name whatsoever).I am familiar with Search, Len, Left, Right, Mid, Instr etc. but just can't figure this one out.
I can't use the "" sign as delimiter to separate them into different columns because the age, city, name and height fields are in random positions on different cells. The good thing is person's name will always come after "name" string, age is alwals followed by "age" string, so it cannot be like nameheight40Michigan180
I think the following would be the easiest method(not for me tho).If on B1 I had a formula that said "find the string "name" and write anything after it until you reach the next "" character".On C1 field I could have a formula "find the string "age" and write anything after it until you reach the next "" character. On D1 I would have the same for "height" string, then on E1 for city string.
My question is somewhat similar to this one Extract A String Between Two Characters
Formula which outputs the data between 3rd and 4th instances of the "_" character. Can we substitute "3rd and 4th" with a specific strings like "age" or "height" ?
I have a problems here. The problems is attached in the file. I wanna extract alpha/char from a string. Example: I wanna extract the words "(M)" with the bracket from the string "Toothbrush (M)" in column A. After extracting the (M) out, I wanna do a validation to compare the (M) in column B with another data in column C, if the (M) is same as the data called "Medium" in column c, the validation will return "Match" in the column d!
I'm looking for a simple formula within the cells of column B to populate the cell with data based on the "country" mentioned in the string of cells in column A. There will be 20 countries and dependant on the country mentioned a 3 character country code will be entered in column B allowing for easy filtering of people based on country code. so something along the lines of if A1 contains "England" B1 equals ENG etc (for abot 20 countries)
Excel tables to the web >> http://www.excel-jeanie-html.de/index.php?f=1" target="_blank"> Excel Jeanie HTML 4
How can I ensure that all Rows before "Title" and all Rows after the last populated Row (denoted by the fact that there is a single blank Cell after it) are completely deleted?
I am trying to extract the data values from the references Bundesbank page and get them into a worksheet so I can manipulate from there. What I have is below.
